Hi,
I am heading to Las Vegas for a few days holiday and was looking to get a local sim card. AT&T seem a good deal, $7 for a sim from ebay, then $15 top up and join the $2 unlimited tariff, with unlimited data, sms etc.
Does anyone know if I need a new 4G type of sim or would the old type 3G sim do in my UK Galaxy Nexus?
thanks for your help
1. See this thread for prepaid offers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1455014
2. Yes it'll work. That's the point of having an unlocked phone, right? =)

See thread title. I'm interested in their 50$ unlimited plan.
Thanks!
I too have the exact same question. Mine is from Verizon and I need to get it on t-mobile for my brother. Anyone know what needs to be done? You can clearly see the slot for the SIM card inside the back shell.

I do not see why it won't, When I was in US, I had the AT&T GoPhone SIM card and had the $25 plan, all you need is a SIM and phone. Data haven't tested but unlocked one works on AT&T.
Just confirm if the model is R800i, as that is quadband.
Well yes AND no. On the AT&T prepaid plan, the phones themselves will work on the $50 plan, but that doesn't include the data. The smartphones require separate data plans like the $25 for 500mb plan. But I have heard of iPhones working without it.

I added two lines to my parents' T-Mobile family plan through telephone sales and chose the slowest shipping method, so it won't get here until Monday evening, but I'm going to fly out of state on Monday morning. Will I be able to go to Walmart, and buy a pre-paid T-Mobile burner, use the SIM card, and activate my Galaxy Nexus so i'll have the phone up and running tomorrow? If so, will it deactivate the SIM that they're shipping me?
There really isn't any activation involved with GSM phones. Just pop in whichever sim card you want and go.

How will it know which T-Mobile account my phone is on?
The account and number are tied to the sim card. I was under the assumption you were going to buy a prepaid sim for the short term and that would be fine. However, would not be tied to your account and would have a different number.

would I be able to buy the burner prepaid SIM, call T-Mobile and say I want to use that SIM card and assign it my account instead of the SIM card that they're sending me?
Don't know how t-mob works but I can change my sim anytime and my carrier will put my number there no problem

Not if you want to pick your phone number. The prepaid sim already has its own phone number and you can't change it.

The only thing that is activated on T-Mobile (and most GSM-based carriers) is the SIM card. The phone is not "activated." That is just how GSM works.
Unless I am misunderstanding, you just want an active SIM to use with your new line right? If you have one available you can just walk into a local T-Mobile store and tell them to give you a new SIM for the account/line that you just opened. Afterwards, any other SIM, including one they may mail to you, will not be associated to that line. They do not allow multiple SIMs to be assigned to a line. Activate one, deactivate any other. That's the way it works.

No that wouldn't work cause the prepaid sim would already be active you'll either have to use the non active sim that comes shipped or get to a corpo store and pick up a free one. Imma sales rep for tmob

i guess this is a non issue now. i called T-Mobile to inquire about this but wanted to check my plan first and it turns out the telephone sales lady while telling me my 3rd line would be free due to an account offer, i now actually have to pay for it. i thought the offer was too good, but she confirmed it and i actually have a CallRecorder recording of the conversation. Most likely going to cancel the changes, revert to the previous account and return the phones when they're delivered tomorrow. What a **** feeling, i was really looking forward to activating and using my Nexus too.

That's way more trouble than its worth to try and get working. Why exactly do you want to do this? T-Mobile gives you a SIM already... and if you need another, they'll give you another lol.
Prepaid SIMs are different plans and services and are not transferrable between T-Mobile postpaid and prepaid, generally.

They do give a SIM however it's being mailed and delivered tomorrow but i found out yesterday i have to head out of state tomorrow morning. I called a few TMo stores and they all want to sell me a SIM for $20.
As for the prepaid plans, i just want the SIM from the prepaid phone. From what I've read, the prepaid phone doesn't include any type of plan, it's $20 for the phone and SIM card and a few starter minutes?
Hopefully I won't have to fight T-Mobile too hard to cancel the add a line changes I made last week, I"ll just return their phones or reject delivery and go with Straight Talk for a few months until my parents' T-Mo plan expires in August and add myself then. Such a hassle haha.

But those SIMs are for prepaid only. They can't be used with postpaid plans.
Think of a SIM Card like a Key to your Number on T-Mobile and it's affiliated plan.
That's it. SIM Card in, enter PIN to unlock the Card on the current device, and off you go.
Call, text, whatever.
Internet settings should be updated automatically.
Hey all,
Just wondering if anybody knows if I import a 900 from outside the US if I'll be able to keep my $10 unlimited (dumbphone) data plan with AT&T. I'm using that right now with an unlocked Xperia Arc and would like to keep it, so buying an AT&T LTE 900 is not an option. I was thinking about importing from Europe, or getting the Rogers from Canada. Anybody have an idea?
Thanks!
Not likely. The store reps told us when we didnt want data for our daughters phone that based on the IMEI they can tell what kind of phone it is and will automatically add a data plan to your account.
Hi, AT&T keep IMEI database only from the phone with AT&T or Cingular branded. If you use international phone which IMEI doesn't match AT&T database, they won't recognize your smartphone and you are free to use $10 unlimited data (as myself).
The only international phone I knew that won't be able to use $10 data plan is Xperia Arc S (LT28A), but Xperia Arc is fine.

This post is highly misleading. at&t only has certain IMEI codes in it's database. Those are typically for at&t and cingular branded phone. I do not know whether the IMEI for an overseas Lumia 900 is different enough that it won't be recognized.

Not true. AT&T has been known to detect Nexus phones as well as recently they began blocking Nokia N9 users on PayGo. It really is a roll of the dice nowdays.

If you want to take advantage of AT&T's LTE network then you're gonna have to upgrade your sim and your internet plan, which will void your grandfathered $10 unlimited plan.

European version of 900 does not support LTE
I can confirm AT&T will not detect my current Lumia 900 (international) as a smartphone and you can use $10 3G data plan.
AT&T detect my Nexus S (i9020A) which got from local BestBuy store as smart phone, though. Perhaps because Best Buy report my Nexus S to AT&T.
Hey everyone! If this is not the right section please move it to the correct section. Anyways, I'm looking for a Sim card for my mifi unlocked any-carrier box but here's what I want exactly:
I want a plan where I buy airtime cards by data not time e.g. I buy a 1gb card that lasts til I use all the data
I want the data to roll over to next month
Is there some sort of plan that has this? I looked into some of the popular carriers such as att verizon and h2o but the only plan I'm really seeing involves some sort of time e.g 200 mb that has to be used in 5 hrs. thanks
Micro
Any suggestions guys? Should I move this to a different forum? Do you not get what I'm asking?

Well,my wife was in the same shoes
She had a vodafone contract(3g),I've been on EE for long time she decided to join, too.
Got the PAC code and bought a new contract on www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk
EE,24 months 2GB data+unlimited calls/sms. Phone was free(and factory unlocked) and she pays £23.99/month.
The smartphones should use 4G nowadays, thats my opinion.
But first of all ensure you have 4G coverage in your area.

You might need to check in HOTUKDEALS where there is a thread about mobile price plan, view the google docs and there have lots of info (Might not be latest updated but close to it).
