If anyone has ties to Koush it might be a good idea to let him know about all the hard bricks that Rom Manager/CWM touch is causing from the ICS leaks on our device. He should consider dropping support for us to avoid further bricks by people that dont know better. I just sent him a DM on twitter.

considering steady bricked his .....many devs are saying not to flash anything with a ice cwm kernel until they find out what is happening

yea good luck with that, on the prevail/admire/replenish/precedent people were getting bricks left and right because of rom manager. in fact the only safe option for them was "reboot to recovery". we have numerous threads about how not to use it all over android forums. myself and a few others came up with a way to fix cwm (because they are all arm6 devices and koush's rfs modules are arm7 and higher only...) and make it official.. he told us no he didnt like it and to come up with a new way to do it. instead now we have to try and figure out a new way of doing it all while more people get bricks.
so, for you to request he pull support on a product that makes him money and sometimes causes bricks, is a VERY unlikely event.

LOLOLOLOLOL you must be a former evo owner?
on the OG Epic rjmjr69 (ACS team leader) sent him an epic for recovery purposes, 4 months later he still had yet to make it or reply about sending it back. he finally got it back after a few more months and we got a 2.5 version "fake flash" which im sure many of you are familiar with (its how he does all of his samsung recoveries) when version 3.x was made by dameon and we broughtin ext4 support again took forever and then we had just ext4 cwm.. from there drockstar spent MONTHS learning cwm and getting dual fs cwm made. in teh 4.x series drockstar was teh champion of cwm whipping out all sorts of versions and improving on many things. after almost a year he finally got cwm official status again to go from 2.5 to 3.0.0.1 now to 5.0.2.0
my point is all the work was always done all he had to do was sync up their repos, from my experience if you want a cwm that works and is updated, do it yourself... dont rely on him. the atrix has been supported since months after it came out, photon just got support 2 months ago despite it being the SAME phone...
Captivate. But I guess the story is different here. He worked with designgears and had a recovery within days. Same story with SGSII.
lucky you guys
Factory restore was the culprit for me. use the format all zip and that seems to be much safer.

I just bricked my Epic Touch on Saturday. I used Rom Manager to back up the phone. The phone now is in the dumpster. I've used Rom Manager on my EVO 4G, and my EVO 3D for a long time and found the app very useful. I've heard others bad mouth ROM Manager, but I never experienced any problems until now. Any how, I strongly suggest everyone STAY AWAY from Rom Manager if they have an Epic Touch.
I have been using Rom Manager on every ICS leak..I am also very safe in that I don't backup anything as well as flashing back to GB before going onto any other ICS build..User error is the issue, not Rom Manager.

when you guys are talking about Rom Manager, you mean the app, right? I've never had any problems rebooting manually to recovery and flashing roms. I guess that's still usually a version of CWM recovery, right?

I mean I am no pro, but I am sure those devs use every method thinkable when flashing to make sure all methods are compatible. It is inevetible that they will have some bricks. Rom Manager has worked over and over and over for me is all I am saying.
I am not using the touch recovery btw. I flash CWM with Rom Manager and then reboot into recovery with it.
It should also be noted that when I flash CWM using Rom Manager, I do not choose epic 4g touch when it asks what phone I have. I select the bottom option, which I believe is just Galaxy SII

As title says I'm new to this site I have only got Calkulin's E4GT 2 ICS Rom. Looking into getting a blend, I have a White E4GT back on GB EL29. Already rooted obviously. All Roms will be looked at, I'm looking for something like ICS but battery saving and themes and such are applicable.
also
What is the difference in these kernels/modems? Like mine is EL29, and there is EL26 and stuff, when flashing a new rom will it change by itself or do I need to self flash a new kernel, and I had the issue with Calkulins ICS where the yellow triangle appeared, so I followed qbking77's guide on how to fix that, if I were to flash say, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538848 this rom, or so other that needs a new kernel, how would I (if possible) keep my kernel to make sure that yellow triangle stays away?
I'm not sure how to keep the triangle away with ICS but, with gb I've flashed almost every rom, and el29 is the most latest release for the epic touch.
Assuming you know what modems are, each and every modem reacts differently on every phone(I'm pretty sure no one knows why).. So you'll just have to play around with modems to find your best combination,
as far as the kernels go, some roms come with a certain kernel others use the one previously on your phone(I beleive), just read the rom info an it should tell you if it includes a certain rom
Edit: ah sorry.. a modem is the radio in your phone, it's what communicates between the tower and phone for service, wifi and what not
=D Double edit: this might help out to..

Ah, this is helpful for the second post, thank you. I'm still wondering as to what Roms I should try next, I liked Calkulin's but I'm one for trying everything till I find the one for me. Any suggestions will be nice.
Everybody has different likes and needs when it comes to roms. I just flashed the fd24 leak earlier today and so far its very nice. My main need is stability and the official leaks are the most stable in my opinion. Read a lot and ddcide for yourself. Ths nocturnal venum rom has also caught my eye once they get the rest of the bugs out.

If you are using a GB rom you can restore a GB rom, but if you are on ICS you cannot restore back to any roms. You need to go back to Gb then installing the rom. In order for you to go back to GB you can follow QBking77 video (youtube) on how to root your samsung epic 4g touch. (by re-rooting it brings you back to a fresh GB rom, with no worries of bricking your phone).
I suggest reading here How Not to Brick your E4GT
You can nandroid from an ICS rom back to a GB rom, I did when I was on Calk's ICS rom to get a gps fix.. Although, there is a risk in bricking it, its up to you. Personally I'm on Venom's ICS rom and it is by far the most stable ICS leak I've used, and has great battery life as well.

Just flash the rom after format? Or Flash a new kernel? Cause my current kernel is stock but last time I flashed an ICS rom it gave me the annoy I1900 triangle boot up thing, is that going to be an issue?
Wipe cache, dalvik then format system and then wipe data. If going to ics rom make sure you are on a gb rom with CWM. Or I believe you can flash through odin, but definitely do some research.

Last question on your pic of your about phone, your baseband is FD19, would I need to flash to that before trying that rom? or could I just wipe like you said and flash from EL29?
Read this threads first 4 posts first: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24733831
This ROM is AOKP 32 based and needs EL26 with CWM(found in first post on above thread). As for baseband, that is just the modem and any doesn't need to be flashed unless you want to try a different modem. To do so just Mobile Odin el26 with cwm wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache/dalvick, flash modem of your choice, rewipe cache/dalvick, flash rom, flash gapps and reboot to AOKP Goodness

Nand backup is the backup utility you use in CWR. And Non-Touch is just that; it's the standard non-touch version of CWR (ClockWorkRecovery). You can find both versions here: http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
You're going to want to read, read and then read some more and get comfortable with these tools before you start using them to flash. There are a lot of great threads here that explain everything in great detail, and most of them are pinned at the beginning of each thread.

Clockwork recovery. There are 2 types. 1 utilizes the touch screen the other uses the volume, power buttons for operation. Recovery is used to make a backup of data and system on the phone so you can go back to it later.....if needed. Recovery is also used to flash new roms and other fixes.

Short for ClockWorkRecovery. It replaces the stock recovery our phone ships with. It allows us to root our phones, flash new ROM's and of course...do nand backups. Your going to need CWR on your device before you root or flash any custom ROMS.
Like I said....please read. I read on these forums for many many hours before I flashed my first ROM. In the end, it really pays off.

Nand backup = What you do when you "always back up all my **** before i install any rom just in case i dont like it."
Non touch recovery = ClockWorkMod Recovery 5.0.2.7, the recovery utility that darkside recommends you use on all his ROMs you've been flashing.

Rather ask then break something, but running MJJz's blend 1.6 which is currnetly under FE22 but no cwm. I've been out of the flashing world since then (May) so a bit behind on the what/why. I'm looking at my windows VM with Odin which when I start shows
E4GT - FE22 Restore - Rooted. So can I get a 1-2 refresher.
I have the new MJ ROM which contains has the updated FF18, but can't install that (or any other ROM w/o a recovery).
So do I need a newer version of Odin, or do I simply run that, connect, and go? Time is getting more forgiving so I will have time to play a bit more often and keep up.
Tnx

Use mobile odin to flash EL26 Kernel with CWM and then flash ANY rom you would like from the recovery.
You could use Sfhub's auto root package to flash EL26 kernel with CWM and then flash ANY rom you would like.

I have the new MJ ROM which contains has the updated FF18, but can't install that (or any other ROM w/o a recovery).
So do I need a newer version of Odin, or do I simply run that, connect, and go? Time is getting more forgiving so I will have time to play a bit more often and keep up.
Tnx

Hey, I got nothing else to do while I read up on mobile odin (actually pretty cool) or just go straight odin .. so bring it on >
ok so if I have a problem do I keep it in this comical one or post a new one in the Q&A?
The problem, well since you asked, I used odin 1.85 and the stock el26 with CWM. Flashed, rebooted and the boot screen now has the model along with a nice yellow triangle. The good is that I was I did get into CWM (doing another nand backup) but I have some new ROM's to test, do I simply format and install? I will read up while I await the comical (yet deserved) comments or post in the q&a!
Regardless, you guys are great, so thanks!

Reading up it seems it's a known thing, but everything works fine, so I am reading here;
http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/08/10/...e-on-samsung-galaxy-s2-without-usb-jig-video/
and will see if that does the trick, but the phone is backed up and new rom is flashing now.

I was hoping this was moved by now but anyways..
Thats why I posted the 2 methods. Auto root package and mobile odin. They don't trigger that triangle. You can use usb jig or triangle away app to get rid of that ugly triangle.

Props goes to eng.stk for how to unofficially flash the GSM images. I have modified his quote to include this devices links, and Im' sorry for not asking to quote him. The only credit I take is for modifying one line to make it flash to our devices. The rest goes to the UbuntuOS team and eng.stk

For people wondering about install (tried with TWRP):
1. Nandroid backup
2. Factory Reset
3. Grab toroplus_ubuntu.zip and quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip
4. Flash toroplus_ubuntu.zip
5. Flash quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip (this one will take a while, grab some coffee :laugh
6. Reboot (screen will go black but after a few seconds Ubuntu is up)
7. Profit :highfive:
This install didn't wiped my sdcard. I just restored my TWRP backup after a short Ubuntu testdrive.
If you are paranoid, just copy your stuff from SDCARD to your PC before flashing.

Quote modified to include CORRECT links for our build. I left the rest in tact.
The only thing I did was modify the line so that the zip would be willing to flash to the toroplus. It does not have CMDA/LTE connection, but it does flash and work on WIFI just fine. With it's limited uses ATM, I believe that getting working radios would be useless, and I only have a Verizon toro (though I know for a fact that this boots). Try it and see what I mean. Do not wipe system, or it will not boot.

If I can get a toro phone working, I'll come try this with a helper, but I don't own this, and can't manage to get the toro working (Even though I ported a GSM android rom to verizon, no clue). It could be the base image. I'll work on it further once we get a more fully functioning GSM release. It's good for all developers now thaugh as long as you don't need CDMA features as WIFI still works fine.

Will we have to flash the zips each time to boot it or could we make a nandroid of it and just flash back?

It will run somewhat on the Sprint Samsung Nexus! Was able to connect to my homes network. Also was able to log in to facebook . Made a backup of my CM10.1 with CWM. Was able to install and boot the Ubuntu OS.I then made a backup of Ubuntu, and was able to restore my CM10.1 with CWM. Cant wait for the A** kicking Devs of XDA to get their teeth on this!! Would be great to be able to duelboot both OS on my Nexus! BTW,MY HAT IS OFF TO kdb424 FOR posting this!! :good:
Awesome! I am so excited. Cheers!
Anyone flash it yet and can confirm it works? Also have you gone back to Android from Ubuntu yet?

Works just like an android ROM and in fact, has some parts of Cyanogenmod in it (check the build.prop if you don't believe me).

It's not gonna be much better untill they have a full release. It's not open source quite yet, nor is it ready to use even on GSM. Once the full release and source comes out, we will all have a field day. I MAY (no promise) be able to get calls/texts working on this after their porting guide comes online. I may have just done something dumb. I'll keep the first post up to date.

It is fun to wipe your device for broken isnt it!
Wow. That was pretty slick. Kinda difficult to get used to the gesture based ui. Its really snappy even though its still got its bugs.
I can't wait until the full release and support for CDMA networks.
And the sidebar dock like Ubuntu os is really nice too.
Definitely something different which is good. And even without cell connection, I like it better than iOS. HA
And coming from the Epic Touch, a 500mb ROM didnt even hit me as being huge. Most touchwiz ROMs are close to that size.

Wait wut?? Not sure what you mean but it worked alright. Only problems I noticed were that I couldn't install the apps listed under " available downloads", and I definitely still need cell service.
Either way, restoring was absolutely painless, so I don't know what toity mean by broken...

I just upgraded from galaxy s2 to an s3 and I absolutely love the new phone. So much faster than my old phone and the battery life is 10 times better.
I put more custom ROM's than I care to count on my old s2, but I'm thinking about keeping stock on this one, at least for now. At the moment I'm enjoying some of the different features that are new to me, such as S-beam and NFC. Will I lose these if I install new ROM? Do most of y'all run a custom ROM on your S3? I'm rooted and running Phil's recovery, which I love by the way.
Any tips for me?
Thanks in advance. :cyclops:
I ran a custom rom for a long long time. However, with the latest update I'm running stock rooted with xposed and wanam. Really seems to work for me. If you like a custom phone with the least amount of work, go with a rom. If you want to try and customize it (completely) yourself, leave it with a custom recovery and start installing....

I'm rooted with philz recovery rocking bilgerryans wicked x 4.4.2 custom ROM. And IMO I think its wonderful. I've had very few issues while running this ROM. If you decide to flash a custom ROM be sure to read up on what you're doing (not saying you don't know what you're doing) because if you're on the nd8 build there have been a lot of problems and bricked phones due to Knox. There are a lot of threads with great information on what to do and how to do it. Best of luck to you!!

Wanam itself isn't a miracle cure, but it seems to have a few of the special tweaks that I look for. Everything else I can find thru custom apks. I try to keep in mind that any rom that I load is going to have "bloat", meaning stuff (no matter how cool) that I will never use or use once and get bored with....

I know how easy it is to screw your phone up flashing ROMs so I've been doing a lot of reading on flashing the s3. It took me a while to figure out rootin it with the update but I got it finally. I've been learning toward trying Wicked because it's one I never used on my s2. I think I've tested almost everyone out there at one time or another. Wicked looks just that, wicked.

I love tweaking my phone. Wanam looks like what I'm looking for until I decide to try out a rom. I've got titanium backup for gettin rid of the bloat. Just never sure which system apps are totally safe to uninstall but I'm sure a quick google search can help. I may decide to try out Wicked or a touchwiz rom later but for now I'm gonna play around with tweaking it myself. Thanks for the feedback.

Keep in mind it's fairly old (but I still go back to it). Also, the great thing about TB is that I can freeze apps and continue running my phone. If I don't have any problems, I can (slowly) start to uninstall them...
