**** i did so i could remember it i put dewizz 2-25 so i could remember what date it was and the name of the rom...

you can't have spaces. delete the space and try it. if it still doesn't work you can manually create a new MD5 for it

I was having that problem with cwm touch, went back to cwm that uses hard keys and it works, but all backups made with touch recovery are shot.

Same thing happened to me. I am still looking for the solution. How to I manually create an md5?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk

Flash the old recovery
M&S

Yeah, I pretty much lost intrest in CWM touch when it kept restarting and wouldn't finish a dang thing without restarting randomly. Sometimes its best not to fix something that isn't broken...if you really can't handle using the volume rocker and power button you shouldn't be in there anyway...
but i digress...i remember I had a bit of a hard time getting it to recognize the device but if you get this string of commands to run it will fix it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714114

I am still using the old recovery (every time I reboot, touch recovery goes away) and I tried restoring after changing the name and I got md5 error. Then I changed it to all numbers and it gets stuck at checking md5 anyone have an idea?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk

I rename my backup folder by ES Explorer and that become bad file

I can confirm this works 100%, I had a copy of Juggs 5.0 and did TDJs superwipe and my backup was coming up as MD5 mismatched. Ran the commands from the guide and violla it worked !

Stop ec05 update popup

I tryed to search. But I can't find any thing about stoping the ec05 update popup. My friends Epic is rooted/moded and iam not going to put a rom on his phone right now. As 4 my Epic. I just want to stop the popup also and wait for a ec05 rom some time in the next few weeks or so.
Any ideas about stoping the install update popup?

Yes, you can use an app like AutoStarts or Titanium Backup to freeze the SystemUpdater.apk
This will prevent the pop-ups. Or you can just uninstall the SystemUpdater.apk altogether.
O ya thanks man I should have thougt of that

I too have this problem. I get the annoying "install update" pop up like 20x a day on my epic running rooted EB13. I'd love to stop it so I used titanium backup to freeze "system updater" but it does not stop the popups! So I think the solution suggested above doesn't work for me.
(It does make the phone crash back to the launcher if I press "settings - about phone - check for updates" though.
So, any other ideas? I'd flash a new ROM but I'm too lazy to restore all my apps and data. I'm waiting for a stable gingerbread ROM instead.
(Side note: new users can't post more than once every 5min on XDA. That's understandable, but frustrating that it applies to *editing* one's posts too...as I'm sitting here with typos I can't fix for another 4minutes. Oh well)

Alas, that was the first thing I tried. No such luck. It attempts to install....fails, I reboot. And then get the message again within minutes. I also tried deleting the update.zip file which was at the root of the SD card. This is maddening... sometimes it till pop up every 5 minutes (though it sometimes leaves me alone for hours too)

Huh that's strange I don't know then. Sorry bud. Only other thing is to odin to ec05 completly.
Edit: what u can do is do a back up go into the development section look for rerfs. What that will do is flash u back to a stock ec05 rom with cwm2.x.x.x then u boot up then u can flas cwm3.0.0.6 boot back up power down. Then boot into cwm let it reconvert to ext4 then do a restore of ur curent set up. And make sure u flash a kernel afther that and ur good to go.

You lost me with those later Instructions. My understanding is if I do a nandroid restore, I would wipe out my upgrade in the first place. To be clear...I did a nandroid backup of my now hybrid EB13 w/ EC05 modem system. If I then ODIN'd to full stock EC05 I would have to wipe my system of apps and data right? Then if I tried to restore the nandroid backup, it would undo what I ODIN'd and restore my eb13/ec05 hybrid setup yes?
In any case, back to the original issue, just for fun I tried to use CWM to install the update.zip the popup notification said it had downloaded (which I'd manually removed via astro file manager). This triggered a file not found error and it automatically wiped the dalvik-cache (whatever that is). I rebooted and... no upgrade message! (At least not for 15 minutes). Maybe that worked?

It appears to be fixed as I haven't gotten the pop-up all day long! I'm not sure which action resolved it (or perhaps both)
1. Flashed modem from EB13 to EC05
2. Attempted to install update from a .zip that I'd removed in CWM which triggered erasing the dalvik cache.
Anyway, now dispensing thanks for your help!

Yes, your backups are stored on your sdcard under clockworkmod\backups. This why you can swap your sd card with a new Epic and restore everything from a recent backup. Glad you got it back up.
Unfortunately the backups have some type of error.
Everytime i try and backup it says ''MD5 mismatch''
?

That happens when you manually rename them. You can try ROM Manager in the market, then try renaming them to something else, if you still get a mismatch, I'll link you to a thread where I fixed it manually.
Ok here it is, You'll need to be rooted and terminal emulator of course, and you'll have to rename the backup to something simple without spaces. I'll just copy and paste what i said on my other post from another thread.
Shinydude100 said:
I, for a change, do know exactly what my backups are, as i renamed them to things such as 2.1eclair, 2.2ec05 froyo, so on and so forth.
I have come to a solution to the problem, it seems we'll have to create a new MD5, so it can match again. (for now at least until clockworkmod is modified/updated.)
I reccommend you leave no spaces in between of your renamed backup, command doesn't do well with spaces, not even if you try putting _.
This can also be done from Terminal Emulator on your phone while its on without the use of a pc. just be sure you add 'su' first for root permission.
# su
# cd /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/whatyourenamedyourbackupto
# rm nandroid.md5
# md5sum *img > nandroid.md5
disregard the '#' it just means it belongs on the next line.
I hope this helps, and gets stickied, it's very important for anyone who gets MD5 mismatches on Clockworkmod for whatever reason.

And can you please stick to one thread? Making more threads with the same problem will only confuse you. It sounds like your sd card is going bad. You should pop it into a computer, copy everything off of it, format it in the phone, then put everything back on it.

If you found my other link, then its something you did wrong, even if your backup is corrupt, it will match a new md5. I'll look for my thread and link you, with exact instructions, gimme a sec.

My findings on the md5 mismatch error

Let me ask all the ones who has got this error. Did you try to restore data that you saved from gingerbread to ics? If so that maybe where the problem is coming. I did some playing around with this and got the same results over 6 times. When ever i was running a gingerbread ROM i would backup with nadriod and titanium backup. Than i would flash a ics ROM and restore data bam md5 mismatch. Go back to gingerbread the back up would not restore for reason unknown same error. But if i backup from a ics ROM go back to gingerbread and restore back to ics ROM no error would happen. Also if i would restore data that i backed up on ics from titanium onto gingerbread everything would force close. So in short if you nadroid on gingerbread don't expect that data to restore on ics. So if your running ics and need to go back to gingerbread you can restore your apps from titanium but restoring data will cause problems. But nadroid is not an option if your needing to restore on ics from gingerbread. So let me know if your having the problem. Right now there is no known confirm fix. It could be that data gingerbread just don't work on ics because its still currently a leaked ROM. Lets work together to find a solution for this annoying problem.

I made this second post to try and isolate what's really causing this md5 mismatch problem. I spent half the weekend experimanting with what could be causing this. So far it has nothing to do with the name changing of the backup or spaces being in the name of the back up. So please no more smart comments lets try and solve this problem the developers here have enough work on there hands as it is. So lets us take one for the team and solve this issue .

What causing it is the file containing the MD5 is missing or you've deleted/changed nandroid attached to that MD5. Simple fix? Get a new check file which can easily be done through terminal.
There's no magic or 'ICS f'd up my previously created nandroid' going on here. Why? Because flashing a rom doesn't effect the sdcard - never has.
I'll add that the recovery for one of them might not be reading the MD5 correctly but that has nothing to do with ICS or GB. Not even the kernel. It has to do with the recoveries. In which case you need to let the dev know.

it could be anything from changing or deleting folders/ files or any other "changes" that it was not there previously
You usually get those by changing the file name sometimes on some roms it's best to delete itto save space if you get it then redo it without naming it just have to remember the one it is lol

Evo Classic ROM freezes an HTC load screen

Hey guys, I am pretty new when it comes to rooting/installing ROMs but I flashed Tommy's Classic Evo ROM. Everything was working fine. I ran my Titanium backup for my apps+system data overnight and this morning it asked me to reboot. I did, but this time, the phone would not get past the black loading screen where the HTC symbol is animated. I tried flashing the ROM again and I am faced with the same issue.
I really liked the speed of the ROM so I was wondering if anyone could perchance help me out. Thank you very much.

Well I don't know if the classic Rom shows md5. When you download the Rom, look for something that says "MD5" or MD5 sum. Then copy that string of characters and get a program called winmd5. Install and tell it to put it in the right click menu or something similar. Then once you have classic downloaded and md5 copied, right click on the file go to send to, and look for winmd5. It will calculate the md5, so just paste the copied md5 into the second box and click compare.
It shows if you have a bad download.

When u restore from TiBu don't restore system data it will cause errors, just like you're seeing. Only restore missing apps, then after the apps are restored restore data only for user apps that u absolutely don't wanna lose data for like games, anything else just redo the settings or you'll end up in a situation like you're in now
We are legion, for we are many.

Yep, it was indeed the system data recovery that was messing it up. Thanks for the advice.
