Hi all,
My friend has installed the newest update, now he wants it rooting, so i've unlocked the bootloader, no probs, then i come to the forum and i can't root it apparently as it's now on 62, it is an LT15i on 2.3.4
I basically need the flashtool, i downloaded the newest version, disabled my AV and tried installing, got a java error, tried another version, that didn't even load.
So i'm now downloading another two versions, which are taking forever, I'm not sure which rom i can install on this phone even when i get the flashtool to work as it should, i believe i can install 2.3.3 rom's, preferably ending in 42.
But finding them is proving to be a pain in the ass, theres no difinitive guide on here, i've been looking for ages and i've found some guides but with outdated links to multiupload which no longer work and redundant guides because there is newer software out now.
Not meaning to step on anyones toes or push anyones nose out of joint by saying that, i'm just a little frustrated which is why i'm at last asking for help.
Any pointers would be great.
Cheers.
EDIT: I got the flash tool, so now i need a rom.
EDIT 2: Downloading this http://uploaded.to/file/haq8vjnz from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330314
Taking an hour to download
Worth the wait.

So, I just got my DInc a few days ago and they did the OTA update at the store while setting up my phone. After 4 days of searching and trying to downgrade, I think I may have found, or figured out a way to downgrade to stock 2.2 without having s=off.
First thing is, the 2nd video on this thread shows how to downgrade if you did the unofficial OTA update, and provides a link for the files. Basically it seems to be a way to downgrade the hboot.
My question is this....if I was to follow that guide and do the down grade that way, would it be possible to the update zip from here, or use the one from this forum here, without basically bricking the phone?
I've rooted my fiances Droid 2 without any problems, and I've done a great deal of console modding and checking out firmware in computers and consoles and from what I gather, it seems that this would work in downgrading from the OTA update and being able to get root and not have problems. My problem is that I don't know much about the DInc enough to try it without an input from people that do know.
Any thoughts or ideas? Or anyone willing to try it and let me know? lol
Sorry for the outside links, but I couldn't find all the info on the forums here.
Unrevoked should have a solution to rooting the OTA ready for release within the next day or two. I'd wait for that rather than trying other untested methods.
That's possible, but then again, they may not be having any luck, or might come up with a similar mehod. Nothing is ever tested on the first try lol.
Im hoping someone else has either tried this, or knows enough about it to say if it will work or not. If I can get my phone rooted this way and not have to wait for Unrevoked to do it, that's ok with me lol.
It would work if you had an s-off hboot but I believe this method was already proven not to work with the s-on hboot as it doesn't allow downgrading. You'll get a message similar to "newer version found on device" or something to that effect.
Edit: The video in the link says you have to already be rooted to do this so no it won't work.
Not the first video, the 2nd one. Where it uses the sdk to push the files through.

ive been tryin to read up as best as possible but getting conflicting reports from every thread i seem to open
with this version would i have to downgrade before i root?
can anyone point me to a straightforward huide to rooting and the software i would need?
thanks a mil
Hi and welcome to xda.
Your software version is good for rooting, no need to downgrade.
To root you should follow THIS guide as it contains everything you need to do.
Just follow the guide until you achieve ENG S-OFF.
thanks a million
will try it out this afternoon!!
Good luck! You won't regret it!
ok guys
i was sucessful in rooting my DHD
now what course of action could i take from here?
whats would be good apps to install now and how do i go about removing the more stubborn apps i dont want?
also what would be a good rom to install at this point if i so choose without having to do a radio flash
Downgrade or not?
There seems to be a lot of conflicting advice about whether downgrading from is necessary. Here they say not, other guides says its necessary to shift down to 1.32.
Is it necessary or not? Jhonnieblue did you downgrade?
Try Cyanogenmod7-RC2

Radio is separated by ROM, you can try later new radios, to test how much your "new" phone juices in your specific mobile carrier.
In my case, I installed CM7-RC2 ROM and it works just fine with 26.04.03.30 radio on Orange Romania. Keep in mind that you must have S-OFF enabled, otherwise you can't revert to an old radio. And make sure you have the right radio for your device or you will turn it into a brick

If you choose CyanogenMod 7-RC2 first, install ROM Manager. Since I can't post links for the moment, try to google for the full guide of rooting DHD on wikipedia for the official steps (or find the same link on cyanogenmod official site)
Then Google Apps (or gapps), the latest version for your device.
Then any app from the market, for me the first was Market Enabler, since in Romania Android Market was not available at the time. And still it is...unfortunately.
ok, ok put the stones down....DOWN. yes Im a newb, but im not an idiot. I have spent the last hour tonight (as well as searching a few times over the last 2 weeks) searching, not just this site, for a way to Root my MT3GS. and apparently its currently impossible.
Yes I am aware of these threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1181214
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108316
and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1189485
however none of these fully explains anything and after reading all the replies in these threads it seems that theres conflicting comments, which are confusing me to no end. so Basically I have 3 questions:
Can I root my MT3GS what is currently running the OTA push of 2.2.1?
IS there a way to get S-Off working on it?
Can I Put any new Rom(could very well be using hte wrong word, if so it should be easy to understand what i mean) on the phone so that I can remove all unwanted stock apps, install any marketplace app I had before, and (drum roll please) get NETFLIX to work on my phone?
thank you in advance to anyone who can help me. but please, please please don't just refer me to another thread, because odds are A) I have read it and it didn't explain it well enough for me to understand and feel comfortable doing it, or B) it didn't provide the needed programs or only discussed part of my question and didn't seem to fit up with other threads which covered the other areas.
in short:
1- yes, you can root it. i've done it 3 times on my phone
2- as far as now, no, unless the new method posted today actually reverts the hboot
3- yes, although there might still be some apps that are on the rom that you do not want.
hey txdeathray, thanks for your reply. I found eckres original post on a different site that was much more elaborate, but from what i read still doesnt specify the S-off problem. last post: forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/28205-stuck-on-step-8-rooting/
SO basically, if I CANT get s-off working, then even if I put cm7 or whatever other version i find, as soon as I reboot my phone, it will undo everything I did and ill be stuck with 2.2.1 again.
Have you tried the unlockr.com way to do it? Their page has a vid following you thru the process.. id post the link but im mobile at the moment
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
Last I looked a couple days ago there was no way working method on unlockr. heck last week the only method involved goldcards, and my firned who rooted his droid refused to touch it.

No. You don't need S-OFF to keep a new ROM. And you won't lose root with S-ON.
To my understanding, you only need S-OFF if you want to be able to manage some things without having to reboot your phone into recovery, or to get to some system files you otherwise can't with S-ON.
I have not seen the need for S-OFF for my personal use of my phone.
hey guys im doing the cyanogenmod htc desire z root. i'm good up till the phone checks the firmware and tells me model id incorrect i have tried both froyo and gingerbread downgrade. i have sdk installed. I tried using a goldcard and that still didnt work. any ideas whats going on.? im runing 2.3.3 and carrier is bell. please help. i have been working and reading for three days. and please no Noobie video. really guys. we have all been in this spot( asking for help that is) . thank you.
Without more details, it's not much specifics I can say.
If I had to make an educated guess I would say that either :
1) Your gfree attempt to change the CID didn't work.
or
2) Your phone is one of the ones that requires the creation of a gold card in order to change the CID version to make the downgrade possible.
I'm a noob at this too, so I don't have much to offer, but I do have the same phone as you (duh) and I'm with Bell too.
I rooted a couple of weeks ago and I also had difficulty getting started - some guides didn't work for me, such as strawmetal's for instance, as well as some others. That's not to say that strawmetal doesn't do awesome work (because he does! - flashaholics) I think it may have had something to with files that he compiled for his guide or maybe even my PC.
In my case this guide worked for downgrading: [thread]http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912[/thread] what was different for me there, compared to other guides, was the thoroughness of how to install the sdk and making all the files were in the right place - this was more work than other guides, but obviously worth it in the end.
This was the guide I used for rooting: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Desire_Z:_Rooting
And of course, this is the guide I used for flashing CyanogenMod: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Vision:_CyanogenMod
If you're still stuck, you can talk to the guys at #G2Root http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=g2root obviously that's the web version of the chat portal.
Bell also released an OTA update last month, and I don't know if that would interfere with downgrading (again, I'm a noob too). I didn't download the update at the time because I knew I was going to be rooting my phone soon.
Good luck! You'll be super pumped when you see that first CyanogenMod boot animation!
Hello, I was posting here because I've been having a great deal of difficulty really getting anything done with it. What I'd like to do is either unlock the bootloader, or at least root it to my computer to flash on a new ROM.
In order to root it, I was told to put it in MSC mode, allow unknown sources, and enable USB debuggin, all of which I've done. However, when I go to root it using either SuperOneClick, Doom method, or flashtool, I continually get errors, either saying ADB server is out of date, killing..., or in the case of the doom method that it cannot write any files because they are read only. Somebody mentioned you an overwrite your r800at with an r800i rom to make this work, but the link in that thread lead to some virus (I assume it was taken down a while ago). I put it to a stock AT&T ftf, and still no luck.
My problem lies in the fact that some of the threads I'm looking at are YEARS old at this point, most of the links are dead, and some of the advice is contradictory. I figured then that I could just get somebody to unlock it for money, but all the threads point to alejandrissimo, who I believe is now inactive.
All I would like is to root my phone and put on a new rom, preferably of ICS, with minimal difficulty. I've sunk something like 10 hours into it at this point, and now am the proud owner of a phone with the exact same firmware I started with. I've wiped my contacts like 8 times, and to be honest I'm just getting frustrated with the whole thing. I hate the idea of having bloatware all over my phone though.
So if anybody knows a good way either to root the r800at (and if possible could provide active links to the software), or somebody I could pay to unlock it and skip all this work, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks for reading, have a good one.
I can't help you with unlocking bootloader (i have r800i with unlocked bootloader), but maybe i can help you with root
You didn't say what firmware are you using, but in general use Doomlord's zergrush method v4 for firmware .42 and below or Eroot on newer firmware (it's on chinese but it have one big button with word "ROOT" on it :silly: )
That is only for rooting and with that you can debloat stock firmware or use ROMs for locked bootloader.
SWM_installer V5 , should work on locked bootloader (once you get root) so you can flash custom GB roms.
To be able to install ICS/JB/CM/MIUI ROMS you must unlock your bootloader because they all don't work on stock GB kernel, and you need unlocked bootloader to be able to flash custom kernels
Here is some links, but i hope R800a users can help you more with unlocking bootloader

First, thank you for the very informative response. Here's some additional info, I am not sure if it will be helpful to you
My current Android version is the stock AT&T 2.3.3 and my build number is 3.0.1.b.0.285. I'm honestly not sure which of these things is helpful, but I'll try that Chinese rooting method. Got a long work shift tonight, but I'll report back later.
Thank you so much, I really do appreciate it!
