Hi people, im not new on XDA but on this subforum...
Well, im looking for a new phone and i been watching for an ARC S (middle performance and middle price) but, i wonder if the Arc S has enough RAM to work with ICS and some Future apps... im not a hardcore gamer (Ill just use for 2D games so 1,5ghz are enough and i dont use facebook apps or lots of widgets..) but.. 512mb are enough for the following 2 years? (Orange's permanence contract)
as im reading Xperia S will be expensive, and xperia P... nothing until april and not price... any other option?
(i have now a wildfire so i want a real phone.. this is worse than a stone xd)
thanks and sorry for my bad english
well, is this phone enough for the future?
It runs ICS, but 512MB aren't enough anymore, at least for me. I'm running lots of widgets and apps in thr background.
But with some mods the problem is solved very good, no launcher redraws anymore.
That's the only reason why I regret getting the Arc instead of SGS II or Sensation.

Arc S RAM is not enough. Even the low end HTC Explorer/Pico has more RAM than Arc S! :O
Even Xperia S has only 600-700MB of RAM available for the user.
Xperia S should have enough

i think ics is the last that arc s can stand, future update might need more capability..

Well, then live with low RAM or save some money untill you can get a S.
The S is quite cheap, just 100-150€ more than an Arc (S). Would get one if it looked better

yeah, has enough ram for now but if i buy one ill be on Orange with that phone for 2 years, dont know how will this phone run within one/two years
also, here in spain xperia S (in addition to be very ugly) it is 600€ and other phones are uglyer or expensiver
argh! Arc S would be perfect with 750mb Ram u.u
I use my arc s for bussines and developer work as well as gaming when bored in airports ect. You cant expect any phone to multitask like your pc.
But i use the wifi tether for ppl i travel with, check emails, browse banking and booking sites, make calls, send msgs, and use the calender and document/office apps all at the same time, copying&pasting stuff between apps with no issues other than my 9 hours of life lol... but that comes under extreme heavy use lol.
The arc s is a brilliant phone for the price. And given the options of whats around if i break it i would buy the same again. And i think that ics will be awesome for at least a few years. So i wouldnt worry too much about updates.
I use and co-dev the TEAM rom. So i have minimal tweaks. ( i have a brightness tweak and some dither options in build.prop and thats it ) stock kernel with my own modded ramdisk
This is my personal opinion so dont hold it against me.

xD no i dont expet my phone to do that, im just wondering if this phone can handle ICS + normal usage from here to 2 years... (im assuming the apps, like on any other OS will need more and more ram with time) and i dont want to be with orange 2 years and in the firs year my phone cant run ... for example, the new angry birds or cut the rope without crashing, or just incompatible with 4.0 (like some apps are incompatible with my Wildfire 2.2)
in spain this device is ~400€ so im waiting for Xperia P ~450 and S ~500€ full reviews.. if they come crappy (1400mAh? too low) ill take this for sure!

Luckily for use Arc users we have great devs like pvyParts and others making ROMs. They clean out the bloatware and loads of other stuff I can't even comprehend.
End result is a less power hungry phone that still glides along with some widgets and background apps running.
I've had no problems with mine
€400 in Spain?
I think you might consider letting a relative living elsewhere buy it, or go to e.g. France yourself. Sony Ericsson let's you use the warranty without going via the shop in my experience.
In The Netherlands it's €320 at the moment:

Hi All,
I am planning to buy SE ARC or Samsung Galaxy S plus!!
Just 1 question that is in my mind..If any of the existing ARC users can solve it??
ARC has 320mb inbuilt memory as opposed to Galaxy's 16gb.
So is 320 mb sufficient enough for all the software/widgets and games needs.
I kno most of the games and some softwares can be moved on to the memory card, but still the inbuilt memory space is consumed by some softwares.
So just help me out in this and tell me whether 320mb is sufficient enough considering the size of android market.
Thanks.
Being an arc owner and I must say I love it, the only let down for is the low amount if memory. I would love more and I do watch the amount of apps I install, I know I would install more if I could, but at the end of the day it depends on how much you want on your phone. I have at least 50 and still have half my memory left, so it's good enough for me
Sent from my LT15i using Tapatalk
Also Link2SD (not regular Android apps2SD) is a very convenient solution.
It's improbable that you will ever run out of free space if you use it.
Thanks for ur replies..
@rustynuts - ARC is a phone to be in love with..else I would have blindly went for Galaxy (as all other Nobs says me to buy)...
you have around 50 apps and are all those apps on user memory or even after moving to SD card some apps out of 50, it is consumin half your user memory?? (I hope u understood the question... )
@iridaki - for link2sd i think rooting the phone is necessary..and in that case I think it wont be possible for me...because I am buying this phone for my Dad..and he wont allow me to do any such things which have a disclaimer at the start itself..(You know what I mean to say... )
So again the same question..what should I do????
I have 70 apps installed 40 are on sd using link2sd and this is what's showing

But are your phones rooted for link2sd to work????
Without link2sd will I b able to install that much apps???
Im sure it needs to be rooted. But I think you will get that many apps just using the standard method built in

Mine is rooted, but I just use Android's native App2SD, no Link2SD etc

I think the galaxy s plus is a great phone and sure has some better specs then my (older) Arc, but the lack of a flashlight for the camera is a real deal breaker here.

get ARC S...
and dont bother with size of DATA partition... android 2.2+ have native app2sd (move App to sdcard) so this shouldnt be a deal breaker...
Galaxy's 16gb is the size of internal emmc so the actual usable size will be around 12/13Gb...
And also is it possible to download HD games of more than 320mb in size??????
will the games be directly installed into sd card???
And also does this phone lags or slows down as it has 512mb ram compared to 1gb of galaxy!!!
please reply as I have too take a decision in 2 3 days!!!
Thanks
Buy the arc.. Is too fast and smooth.. the camera is just awesome. Battery life is great too.. And Display with BE engine is beatifull!

Yes, it just stores the game data on you SD card (I believe 16GB is included in my region)
personally recommend arc because of nicer design, better camera, promised to get ics update but also have to mention that memory is not enough .you will not have installed all apps you want.you must select only best ones you really need for daily using
I've been using link2sd for a few months and would say it's nigh on impossible to run out of space. I currently have just over 150 apps(I'm pretty disorganised and tend to download anything that catches my eye and forget about it...)and still have 130 mb internal storage free.
In my opinion you should buy the Xperia Arc S.
I've bought the Xperia Arc S too about a month ago and I'm more than satisfied.
And don't worry about memory, App2SD or Link2SD (when you're rooted, which is very easy with ZergRush Method from Doomlord) works great.
*** Kindly Please read all, its not much ***
Using arc s for six months i love it no doubt... Great speaker volume, flawless message typing, its good speed now after being of ics 4.0.4, its calling, and all features are great.!! Just playing heavy games( max payne, nova3, dead space, etc) or opening youtube videos on browser it crashes, though happened rarely. I can though ignore this issue as i m not into this much.....
Now still the big question i love the beast htc one x . Mostly all know what it has got, but its speaker volume is ok not that loud as arc s.... though other features i checked many videos on youtube and i liked it alot ..
Anyways just with all xda lovely devs and members i need to know should i go for it??
Please do not suggest me any other phone like s3( no hard feelings but i hate its plastic body, even speaker is loud bt sounds ordinary, bad business type ui ), or any other phones.
Best Regards!

Hey guys! Currently, I own an awesome arc S, but I would like to change my phone. Probably, I will buy myself the phone for Christmas or in November, so I have a lot of time. I was thinking of purchasing SGS3, One X or SG Note. Have I chosen well or you have some suggestions for me? Please, help! I would like my phone to be XFast, have big screen and have at least 2x CPU. The best would be 4x, but SG Note is tempting me...

Personally I wouldn't want anything bigger than the arc... Which rules out all those.
My next phone is likely to be the xperia s, or its successor.
I'm not buying anything until I know it's getting jelly bean in a prompt time scale.

Very tempting suggestion, but... Is it sure in 100% that this phone will get custom roms? No. Xperia arc S despite being Sony's flagship phone didn't get a lot of custom roms. This Sony GX is also dual core. I think the only phone with dual core CPU I can have is SG Note. Before buying the Android smartphone I'm also checking independent developers' support.
Note 2 or s3 or one x all are good and more powerfull but by design note may not fit in pocket but it is awsm phone go for s3 or note 2

Acro S... Too small...
In my opinion, I think the Arc/Arcs has a very outstanding design among all the brands and not even the newer Sony model could rival the design. Just look at the curve of the phone.
The Japanese rework of Arc looks tempting, but it is quite pointless to buy a new phone with almost exact same look although with upgraded hardware, well at least in my opinion.
It is a tough choice to abandon such a good looking phone like arc but the S3 seems like a phone that will stay relevant for every tasks for a long time but I personally think S2 looks better than S3 though. Lol
The Galaxy Nexus is a cool choice too, seeing as Google phone will always get extra attention from Google and faster to get all the great upgrades. So the game should run fine on it until the next Google phone is out and it also has big 4.55 or. 65 inch screen and the design is pretty stylish.
My 2 cents.

Great design phone's but not to many dev's .
Yeah I've been looking for my arc's replacement f or a few weeks now but the only one covering all the features would be HTC EVO 4G LTE(SD slot, big battery, 720p non-AMOLED screen, snappy S4) which unfortunately ain't available outside US :/
Hopefully Sony will release the GX pretty soon

Hey, guys! I am owner of Xperia arc S (and developer of Jelly Sandwich, btw) and want to buy another phone in November. Of course I will still have arc S for development and other stuff, don't worry. I am thinking of one from these models: HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S III, LG Optimus 4x HD. Which one is the best? Please, recommend something! LG tempts with its low price, but I don't really like its interface - even stock based custom ROMs will have this look. From the other hand SGSIII has its awesome Amoled screen and great support via custom ROMs (One X also does). Do you have any suggestions? I will choose 100% from one od these three phones - even latest Sony phones won't have quad core CPU. And, please... Don't try to make me thing dual core has the same performance as quad core. I just want my future phone to have 4-core CPU.
BTW, I like SGS3's light interface so for example Android Revolution HD ROM would be suitable for me :3
Thanks in advance for suggestions!
Cheers,
Max
It'd have to be the s3, if only because of its popularity. I've been thinking of a new phone for about 6 months, I've tried the xperia s, one x, s3, galaxy nexus and the note 2. The xperiaS was ok, but not a huge improvement on my arc. One x seems faster at first compared to the s3, but after 3-4 days use it felt laggy whereas the s3 actually felt faster. They're both on the large side though. Nexus is good but display lets it down. Note2 is f***ing huge!
I'll probably get the s3 myself, mainly as Samsung have actually put a bit of thought into the ui.

But why?
Because I like the HTC Sense UI. But thats not the only reason and I think that doesnt rly help you.
Pretty good performance,
customizeable
materials (doesnt cares you, i know)
Even the S3 has got better ways for customization (popular, more private developers..) i would choose one X anyways.

Being quite alot into design, few words from that point of view:
1. You are seriously qualifying Samsung UI as "good one"?
2. How could one go for such uninspiring (not to say ugly) and washed out design, after having sexy beast like arc S?
Bottom line. I would not go for quad-core untill Sony, or anyone else, release an originally designed, true quad-core killer. Also, these first quad-core "experiments" you mentioned as options, will probably be ridiculous by the time Sony release their quad-cores, and generally second generation of quad-cores. One more thing. Quad-cores will be there for long time for sure, and in half year from now (or a bit more), there's a big chance that you will have the weakest quad core phone, of all quad-cores.
Anyway, good luck with shopping.
I have news for you:

That's the main reason I haven't gone for any new phone yet, the fact that the s3 and oneX are basically the first generation of quad cores. Plus as someone said previously, the s3 is pretty bland looking. I chose my arc over an s2 mainly due to its looks and actually think it's still the best looking smartphone, alongside the lumia 900.

hello,
im new to this forum. All i need to ask is that is this phone worth buying now? i would buy better phone but my price range is 200$ to 220$. and xperia play is 205$(20500 rs in my countty). It also very hard to find one. there is no phone in this range that has more than 512mb ram. but my friend says that it will be great mistake to buy this phone. Gta and modern combact are the game that make me think about this phone. i have used sony xperia s from my brother for sometime and touch screens are very bad for gamming specially for games like gta. please tell me should i buy?
Sorry for bad english or for wrong forum. i have registered fist time on forum.
Thanks

512mb ram is not a lot, but enough for the emulators I play.
I used the Xperia Z along with the Moga controller for a while now and I dislike the Moga sticks.
Dropped the Z and back to the Xperia Play now.
Sure the hardware was nice, but I prefer a proper Dpad and everything in 1 device instead of 2.
Offtopic: Xperia Play is made by Sony Ericsson, not by Sony.
Kind regards, Stefan.

The Xperia Z, the beautiful 5 inch 1080p factory Jelly Bean phone with the quad core Snapdragon chip set. You're trying to say that you had one of those phones but prefer using the Xperia Play.. :screwy:

Yes, this is what Iam trying to say.
You do not want to know for how many years I have used and enjoyed N-gage.
Swapped back and forth with that phone aswell, always to find out:
Iam a gamer I need physical buttons and like everything in 1 device.
As for the price, Iam not sure.
Think speaking in euro's 150 \ 175 would be reasonable for an brand new Xperia Play.
Kind regards, Stefan.
If you like emulating old games, then this phone is perfect!
I wouldn't advise you to buy this phone, due to the fact that it isn't strong enough to play new games with.. I bought mine 6 months ago, and am experiencing many difficulties with actually just making a phonecall.
Overall, I really love the idea of the Xperia Play but unfortunately the hardware is just not that good.

I had xperia play, moved to a Asus padfone then to a galaxy note 2. I ended up buying another xperia play just for games. It's so much better then using a bkuetooth controller. Like others have said, if you like old emulators then this phone is perfect.

hahaha epic reply..sorry to be off topic just an epic reply! ahahaha.. now back to topic for that price range yes 512 yes but no other phone in the market has the goodness of the built in sony gamepad. we are talking about countless hours of GBA,PS1,NES all the classic games that we love on those consoles fitting unto a single android device.. better graphics does not usually produce great games.
thanks. i have made my decision to buy xperia play.. as all the phone in this range have 512mb ram so all perforamce will be almost same. Thats why im going to buy xperia play tomarow. if i find one in market

Agree best rom for gaming got all the gameloft games dat are compatible and no lag
Hello, I'm using xperia play almost for year and if u like gaming u should buy it i know it's not high end device but it's pretty much optimized, stock rom without oc and other things has got bigger antutu score than htc evo 3D
Htc evo has 2xcore 1,4 i think and 1gb ram(i think)
Xperia play has one core with 1GHz, 512MB RAM and has bigger score and that says something
