What do you mean by "stock android recovery"?? LoL. Can you like post a pic or something..
You mean the boot loader screen?
There will be an option for Recovery on that screen. Scroll to that using your Volume Rocker, then press home button to enter Recovery!

I got my phone a bit damp while skiing and now the + vol button doesn't work. I would like to keep playing around with Roms however the inability to flash an update.zip to boot into clockwork mod worries me too much.
Is there anyway to get into the standard recovery without holding the + and pushing power? Or possibly hard-flash clockwork mod?

---Solved, flashed recovery using unREVoked, works well now. Thanks everyone, back continuous unadulterated flashing---
Well, ROM manager can boot into recovery, but obviously that requires a working ROM.
Regards,
Dave
Install ROM Manager from the Marketplace, use the custom clockwork recovery image in my sig (fake flash). You can then install the custom recovery image from the root of your sd card using ROM Manager. To flash ROMs in the future, in ROM Manager, select the 'Install ROM from sd card option'. You can then use the trackpad to navigate through the recovery menu options instead of the Vol key.

Yeah I know I can get there from Clockworkmod, but the rom needs to be working. I'm worried about flashing anything else in case one of the roms is broken.
I've read that unrevoked rooted phones can do it, can I use the unrevoked method even though I'm already rooted with Paul's riskfree?
If you turn on your phone while pressing the "Back"button on the right of the (OJ)optical joystick, your phone boots in "Fastboot"
Then you select "Bootloader" by pressing the powerbutton
If one of your vol buttons still works, you can press it untill you've selected recovery
Et Voila

I can get to the recovery screen, black phone with red exclamation mark in triangle. It is at this screen I need the vol(+) button. Hmmm...not too confident about flashing roms anymore

Use UnrEVOked to permanently flash a recovery image onto your phone.
Regards,
Dave
From terminal
su
reboot recovery
Also works
Where to from here?
I have been reading up on fastboot, in which I should be able to restore a nandroid backup if flashing a rom fails. This doesn't need the recovery console, there is some contingency I guess.
Has anyone used unrevoked on a prerooted device? are the steps the same?

For instructions for flashing a permanent recovery image (UnrEVOked) are pretty straightforward. Please see the following link for more information:

Just make sure you have HTC Sync uninstalled beforehand. To remove UnrEVOked, simply flash your original RUU file, which will also return you to stock and remove root.

i just installed a custom rom and now i cant toch anything when it boots up. How do i get to recover my old rom back??
I installed virtuals btw and when i hold down power and vol down it doesnt boot into recovery is there a way to do the recovery with abd when hooked to the computer?
umm... i don't think this belongs in the dev section and you should edit post to merge doubles... but what method did you use to install the rom?
When u boot into bootloader via vol doen+power if you don't see recovery, select bootloader, then the recovery option from there. Use power button to select while in bootloader, use track pad to select in cwm recovery.
...and ya, next time post in Q&A.
This happened to me yesterday. I plugged the phone via USB while off then booted it went to recovery

hey guy im new here. good forum.
today i did ENG S-OFF and Radio S OFF to get the new android evolution ROM.
and i got ENG S OFF.
my question:
i cant get to recovery mode. every time i choose recovery it wont let me get in.
it send me again to that little android page.
thanks you very much.
have you installed clockwork mod recovery?
uh what is that? lol
if its in the rom manager so yea i got 3.0.0.5
I have the same problem with a clockwork mod recovery 3.0.0.5
To install that ROM I'm sure you need to use CWM 2.5.1.3. You can flash a older CWM from ROM Manager.
Disable Fast boot in Settings -> Applications then turn of you phone. After it's turned off hold down volume- and power button at the same time and it should go into bootloader and choose recovery from there. Use volume buttons to go up and down and power button to confirm a selection.
thankssss=]
I rooted my phone using the method that iamcquinn used:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928160
I've got S-Off and Titanium Backup verifies that my root is okay.
I've flashed CWM into 3.0.2.4. After that, I tried to run Reboot into Recovery.
After that, I get stuck on the HTC logo screen of the G2 and it's stuck there.
What's the problem that I'm experiencing here, and how can I solve it?
Thanks
Install ROM Manager from the Market and reflash the recovery image from there.
Sorry, forgot to mention that I flashed it through ROM manager. I've reflashed once and got the same result.
Also, when I boot up my phone with the Power key + Volume down, a couple lines flash up before I get to the menu. The only thing I could make out was that some image couldn't be found. Does that have anything to do with it?

It could be that it isn't a "problem"; give us the text which is displayed on your device while booting up. It could give us a clue about the "problem" you have. You do have ENG HBOOT and S-OFF on your boot screen?

I do have S-OFF and HBOOT-0.76.2000 (PC101000).
When I load up the bootscreen via power + volume down, it checks my SD card and says that PC10DIAG.zip isn't found. No image/wrong image was found.
What happens when you enter clockwork recovery?

The phone reboots; the videos that I've seen have the phone boot into recovery mode after about 5-10 seconds, but mine never gets there. It just stays on the htc screen.
what about adb? are you able to connect to your phone using adb?
if you got s-off you can
fastboot flash recovery
and see that gives you recovery, and able to boot into it
First of all, I would like to thank ClydeB1 for his amazing guide.
I followed his guide to getting back to stock after flashing a custom ROM.
I downloaded 3.14.401.27 ruu and the related stock recovery as pointed in his guide.
I followed the procedures and everything went smooth (the device is back to stock and is working very well) except for this little thing:
when I boot in bootloader mode and try to go in recovery mode I get the red triangle signal.
I tried to flash the stock recovery in unlocked mode several times but still I get the same signal.
My HTC ONE X has 1.36 boot and the main version is the one mentioned above.
Thank you in advance and sorry for my horrible english
the red triangle warning sign with the phone is normal. Don't worry, if you see his sign you can press vol - and power (or just the power button, can't remember) and you will enter the stock recovery !
to enter stock recovery, u have to press (vol up+ power) after u select recovery option from bootloader menu. Do this ONLY after u have selected the recovery option from the bootloader menu, if done on any other screen u may brick ur device.
Flash stock recovery n Do what I said above.
