hi. i have the gsm galaxy nexus.
right now for some reason i can only use wifi ! when i close wifi the signal bar wot display that it is connected via 3g/hspa+
the signal bar becomes gray.
i tried pulling the sim car out and in - airplane mode - turning wifi on & off - turning "Date Usage" on & off
WTF IS THIS ?!?!?!?!
please help me

Did you enter the right APN settings for your carrier?

Where are you, is your phone SIM locked? Does the SIM work in other devices? Do you have the right APNs? are you rooted?

Did you accidentally toggle data off? Data usage isn't going to do crap.
Go to your Mobile Network settings and make sure it's on.

Use 2G (EDGE) only AT&T?

I will be using the phone on AT&T and I was wondering if the option to turn off 3G is present or use 2G networks. This would be under mobile networks. I ask because I get better coverage on EDGE and have wifi. AT&T has also removed this feature on their Androids for god only knows why.
So can anyone using the phone on AT&T comment whether or not this option is there and if it works correctly? Thanks

Of course. Here's the standard mobile network screen:
But when you're on WiFi it doesn't matter. It disconnects mobile data anyways.
Thanks. With my iPhone 4 I was able to turn off 3G and be on Wifi and have a very strong signal versus leaving 3G while being on Wifi and having 1 bar.

You can manually drop to "2G only" when you turn on WiFi if you want, but it automatically disconnects data when you connect WiFi. All phones hold onto signals to different extents. if you find your phone always on the edge of a 3G/2G handoff, the "2G only" switch will do it for you.
You can always grab a widget to do so as well. Most of the popular ones (I use Widgetsoid) offers a 2G only/2G+3G/3G only toggle type.

Hidden menu?

Is there a hidden menu for the glide? I want to try to disable 4g cuz its killin my battery

Are you running the Inc3ption rom?
To turn it off, you have to go to Settings > Wireless and Networks > Mobile Network > Uncheck use packet data. But you can get an app which allows you to control when the data is on or off and put a widget on the homescreen so you can turn it off/on asap instead of going through the method I gave you.
Runnin stock... i just wanna turn 4g off but have 3g on.. im on straight talk and ithink ots killin my battery cuz its sayin 97% without signal

Captivate glide doesn't have 4g.. It only has 3.5g. You can't go down to 3g manually.

3.9G or 3G++ if you want to be accurate. But it doesn't matter, and I imagine he would want Edge to save more battery.
But I remember reading that it was not possible on the AT&T ROM. I think disabling sync when you don't need it could help a little.
you can try:
- open dialer
- dial *#*#4636#*#*
- tap Phone Information
- scroll down to "Set preferred network type" (or similar)
- tap drop down and select "GSM only" or "GSM auto" if you want EDGE
oh one more thing, I have no idea if this persist upon reboot....sorry
I have the Rogers stock and I select 2G from the Settings -> Wireless and Network -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode -> GSM only
This allows me at work to only use Edge as I have crappy reception at work and it keeps alternating from 2G to 4g (what the phone shows on top middle) Now I simply see an E and battery life is much better. I switch it when I leave work back to (GSM/HSPA(Auto mode)
You mentioned a widget that can do this from the home screen??? This I would like.
Samsung website says it a 4g phone???

^^^^^^
It is just 3.75G and NOT real 4G... Further in AT&T stock ROM, there is NO way to disable 3G/HSPA or set 2G only... Even the *#*#4636#*#* method is NOT working, as I have tried that too...
Just flash the ROGER's ROM or any other Custom ROM here (Rooted_Rogers_stock, Osimood, inc3ption, etc) and you can select HSPA only (for fast data on good 3G coverage) or GSM only (to save battery in spotty 3G coverage area) and Auto mode also...
Further I use one app which stays in Notification bar showing current network and on clicking it, the above-said option will be shown (otherwise you have to goto Settings-->Wireless & Network-->Mobile Networks) and you can also enable/disable data on that same page... The app is called "Show and Switch 2G/3G" and its available in Google Play Store --> here....
It's actually 3.623G if you want to be precise.
;-)
Actually compared to LTE speeds it's downright slow. But it's more than enough for most people.
Faster speeds just means you hit your data cap sooner....

I've been thinking about straight talk. How is it?

Is it possible to switch 3g->2g if I turn on Wifi and wise versa?

I just want to save battery. Can my phone switch to 2g if I turn on Wifi?
Any mod or app?

that question hurts my head.
wifi is wifi...it will connect to a wifi network if an open one is around. this does save battery over 3g.
however, this will have no effect on cellular data.
you may be able to go into settings>more>mobile networks>network mode and toggle through some of those options...one of them will probably witch to 2g mode.
FYI, those instructions are for the CDMA/LTE Gnexus....so your results may differ. but that is where i can toggle from LTE to 3g mode....assuming you would be able to toggle from 3g to 2g mode.
Your mobile network gets disconnected when you connect to Wi-Fi anyways. So who cares?
Thanks!

The app tasker can do all kinds of things like this.

Edit: also my phone gets better signal for phone calls while on 2g only inside of my house.

But tasker is damn expensive What about battery life? Does it consume much? I bet it does because app must monitor everything what is happening in th phone.

Mobile data connection cant remain alive please help!

I cant seem to be able to keep my mobile data connection alive.
I get 3g/h+ momentarily but after leaving the phone (locking it and putting it beside me) for a few hours I just dont have mobile data capabilities (the 3g/h+ icon is still present in statusbar though).
Have to keep cycling mobile data on/off/on just so it can re-register on the network
Please any help at all is appreciated!
Btw I have the n7100 running on Telcel (mexican carrier)
with the latest Alliance ROM. I just installed it and have done no mods like removing system apps or stuff like that.
APN is set right (checked my cellphone carrier's website for their official settings)
A friend of mine has the exact same setup yet whenever he wakes his phone from sleep his 3G is flawless.....
Any advice?
Check network mode. Set it to wcdma only.

[Q] Network problem

On my s4 mini lte, each time I turn on mobile data it doesn't work, doesn't matter if I have 4g or not (in the notification bar it actually says '4G'). When I go into settings and turn off lte (wcdma only), my Internet does work. Is there a problem with my lte antenna?
