[Q] Power Button? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Am I the only one whose power button seems to have sunk into the housing? I can only press down the left side, which is even hard to do. Kind of a pain.

I'm sorry, that really sucks... (warranty replacement time?) MIUI has a bunch of apps that you can use to turn the phone on an off without using the button on top. You press the app, and the screen shuts off. I don't know if it'll work on non-miui roms, but you can give it a shot...
http://www.mediafire.com/?2c3em6x1e8v1mk7
There's the app, download it, then using root explorer, I'd push it to /system/app and fix permissions on that (owner x x, group x, other x) and also check that the owner is listed as 0-root for owner and group
Alternately in settings, for both cm7 and miui, you can make it so the volume rocker will wake the screen when the screen shuts off...
I don't have the problem you're talking about, but those are potential things you could do to avoid having it break worse...
Hope that helps (probably doesn't, but I tried)

It caused me to get hanged up and recall for so many times.. its so annoying..
Is there a way to remove this button?

hold phone closer lol. or try a different dialer. full screen caller id may work for you.

oh come on that's not an actual tip to hold it closer (and if already then I should hold it farther for not pressing),
There must be a way to cancel that button or remove it for good..
and that "full screen caller" is very uncomfortable, perhaps something more friendly.

There is you can decompike the apks needed and edit the smali files and the xmls, then recompile and test. It will not be easy to say the least. Good luck
Minimise the full screen dailer right after you take or make a call.

Or just press the home key. You can always get back to the call by pulling down the status bar, and pressing on the call option.
after calling just lock the phone by pressing power key... all disabled

[Q] Remapping the Power button

My phone fell from my hand. And now the power button is not working. How to I remap it to the Search button? And will it be able to switch off/on the phone if it shuts down?

You cannot. it is hardwired to a pin, thats why you can force a reboot even if the phone locks up. You might be able to remap some functions, but not poweron/off and screen on. because when the screen is off the digitizer is in sleep mode so the search button wouldnt respond unless it was activated. Sorry to hear about you dropping the phone. Any warranty left?
No warranty
just another thought, sorry to hear about your phone. However, are you sure its the power button? since you dropped it, it might be caused by other hardware failure... you may need to consider the possibility as well..

depending on country/distributor some comes with only 1 year. Then again, i don't think they will entertain a claim caused by user... usually only covers factory defaults.
I bought mine from the US though i Live in India. So no warranty
this means... you have to use a pin to short the switch and boot it up everytime lol. Then enable wake using vol button to wake the phone haha.
How is it not working? Is it pressed below the unibody?
if so, I had the same issue, what i did was; remove the cover (first the battery, volume buttons and gps) and then while having the backcover in my hand, I took a small stump or something alike and pressed on the button from both sides, like 5 times each side.
Then put the thing together and it worked perfectly.
I've actually done this 3 times because I drop my phone very often xD
But if it don't work you should definitely get "Tap Tap App" which makes you unlock your phone with the proximity sensor located to the right of your speaker (the little black dot).
Hope it helps! Both solutions worked for me!
*Edit, oh yeah you can get a mod to use volume buttons to wake it up aswell, as the person above me mentioned ^^
Good luck!

[Q] One X Wake / Unlock

Hi guys,
Got my One X a few days ago and loving it so far! My only complaint is the position of the power button- seems like they put it in the most awkward place possible!
Does anyone know of a mod to use the volume keys, or a double tap, or something to wake the device, to save using the power button? I know there's alternatives to lock the device via apps, but it's more the unlocking I'm concerned with.
Surely I'm not the only one who needs this?!
Thanks in advance,
Neil
You can use Sweep2Wake. It wakes the device by sweeping over the touch buttons.
I have another issue with the placement of this button, or rather, how the button behaves. If I put my One X in my pocket with the button up, and then proceed to bend down and tie my shoelaces, the device will almost always reboot, this is because the button is being held down for something like 8 seconds, and it doesn't matter if the device is sleeping or not when I do it. This is because the button is acting like a power button does on a computer and I do understand the need for something like that, but having it bound to a single button? That is a bad idea. On iPhones you have to hold both the power and home buttons for 6 seconds to trigger a hardware power-off sequence. <-- this is how it should be done!
I hate where they positioned the button! I much prefer where samsung put it.
Same here got my HTC One X just two days and loving it but why they put the powerbutton on the right side is annoying, means I have to use two hands constantly to not drop the phone to the ground if would use one hand.
It's funny cause putting the button up top use to be norm for most cell phones

Rekoil, that looks idea but is it only available with a custom ROM?
I flashed every other week on my Desire but don't fancy doing it just yet with my One X!

[Q] How to disable random reboots by pressing power button in pants pocket?

I love this phone! But one thing is really annoying.
I keep this phone in my jeans pocket, but often while walking I hear the reboot sound. The power button is pressed in my pocket. And if this happens long enough, the phone will reboot, even when the phone was locked...
Is there a way to disable this behaviour?
If you install Widget Locker Lockscreen I think you can disable Power button at lockscreen but I don't use this app anymore for several months.
That's a paid app. Seems excessive just to disable this annoying behaviour
seems weird to me. I never had a reboot when phone was in my pocket. Prior to note 2 I had a S2 with same power button construction and behavior, and never expriened this.
Do you use a silicon protecting case? Those cases put a small but excessive pressure on side buttons thus a little push will trigger buttons.

No, I'm using it bare.
Hold your phone, locked with the screen off, and keep holding the power button. You'll see that it'll start rebooting.
I'm not wearing skinny jeans or anything like that, the phone has plenty of room in my pocket... But apparently it's enough to press the button e.g. while driving with my seat belt on.
The annoying thing is that I sometimes don't hear it rebooting and then I'm unreachable for hours until I look at my phone and input the sim code again. Now that I think of it, I think I'll disable sim code input, that will at least connect me again after a reboot.
The problem apparently already existed with the Note 1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369805
On further googling, this actually is the soft reset feature!!
There goes my hope of disabling it...
EDIT: Another happy user: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401852
I guess it would be possible to disable soft reset, but you'd need to build a kernel with the feature.

Try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nezdroid.lockscreenprotector
Hi all i made an app to avoid this, blocking power menu on lockscreen no need of root working on 2.2+ and you can set up a custom menu (power and reboot need root) so you should take a look and if you like please leave a 5 stars, or let me know any issues
this is only for lockscreen , when you are outside lockscreen you have the normal power menu
here its the link to play store

EDIT
Or with a rooted phone:
Once the phone is rooted, you install an app called Root Explorer which you get from the Google Play Store.
With this app, do the following please
Go to system > usr > keylayout
Find seckey.kl
Made backup from seckey.kl file.(copy paste in same place then rename or paste to other folder)
Change seckey.kl permission to become 0777, so we can edit the file.
Using text editor open secky.kl
find
KEY 116 POWER WAKE
edit to become
KEY 116 POWER
Save the change
Change seckey.kl permission back to 0655
Reboot the device

If my phone was rebooting in my pocket I would guess a ROM issue before imaging I'd pressed the power button too long.
Perhaps it's time to charity shop those skinny jeans.
Just in case somebody out there running a custom ROM has got the same problem and looks for an easy workaround:
There is a Xposed Module that allows you to modify the power button menu to your preferences and also to completely disable it when the phone is locked.
I have not tested it yet and it is unfortunately discontinued by the developer, but it looks pretty solid to me.
It was intended to run on Sony Xperia devices, but also works on many other devices with AOSP based ROMs.
ATTENTION: It does NOT WORK for TOUCHWIZ ROMs although you can install it to them via Xposed Installer!
Head over to the Advanced Power Menu XDA-Thread.
Cheers!

How are you actually meant to turn this off?

Did anyone at HTC actually use this device? The power button is an absolute joke. 50% of the time I wind up messing with the volume on my way to turn the phone off and put it back in my pocket.
How do you guys sleep this thing? The nexus 5 buttons are so much better.

1.swipe2sleep
2.notification double tap on viper rom
3. OR u can just customize a button on ur NAV bar to turn off the phone

First I have a nexus5 also and there is no comparison on the buttons. They rattle when you shake it. Anyways maybe you have a bad device. I just set mine to hold home to turn screen off so I never even have to hit the button but my button works fine if I need it.

Indeed. I'm contemplating a return and sticking with either my moto x or nexus 5 so k won't be rooting it at the moment.
Its bizarre that they added motion gestures basically acknowledging the button isn't great, is there no off gesture?

I will look into this. Seems odd HTC has an "on" method (acknowledging they need one in addition to the sleep button) but not an off button.

Except sometimes, I long press the power button, then I get a short vibration & several options regarding resetting or powering down my phone. Thanks for confirming the presence of the other features tho! I am glad to see that the power button functions to start the device, as well as turn the display on & off. I am certainly happy to discover that the power buttons function didn't change just because HTC located it somewhere other than where LG located it!
Seriously, I also have a N5 (with ZERO button issues, rock solid), but I much prefer the HTC button placement. No accidentally turning the device off while just trying to adjust the volume with only a left hand available at the time.

Yeah, I actually prefer the button being in the top. I never really liked the power button on the side.
My hands aren't big either, if anything they're smaller than an average guy.
It just takes a small shift to turn it off with one hand, just being careful you don't press the volume buttons. Which became easy after a couple days of use for me.
