[Q] anyone followed zepplinrox battery calibration guide? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

anyone followed this guide?

I did it, and got to the part where you put your battery back in, and it starts charging. But I lost my network connection.
I'll let it run and see if it charges up. But any ideas?

[Q] USB death after Root and Flash on Xperia ARC

HI all,
I flashed my Arc last night, and then rooted it.
All seemed to be fine, until I rebooted after the Root had been completed.
Once the phone turned back on, the battery had dropped from 70% to 1%. It was warning me that it was about to shut off, so I tried to plug it into the computer, via USB cable to charge, and nothing!! I thought it must just be my computer, so I tried to plug it into the wall socket, and still nothing! It just refused to charge. Full stop. However, it continued to tell me that I was bout to run out of charge and didn't turn itself off!!! I unplugged it 1000 times, and still tried each option ( computer/wall socket) and it just wouldnt work.
So, basically, this is a well known problem and you can solve this by following this procedure -
" try removing the battery for a few seconds then reinsert the battery whilst the wall charger is plugged in. give it 5 mins before attempting to switch it back on.
if it manages to switch back on, try to put the phone in flight mode until the red light turns a pale green. "
I did this, and turned it back on. Straight away the phone rocketed back up too 77% battery.
And, the usb port worked again.
So my question is this,
Is this a common issue?
And is following the above process ok for the phone? I hope that I wont have to send it back, cause the other people on that link above had too.
Is anyone else had this problem?
Thanks all for your input
Amanda
This is a common issue, no worries Amanda! Same for me when I flashed the UK Generic 2.3.2 to obtain Root..
How did you fix it???
This happened to me also last time after a reflash. You may try to do a complete drain then do a complete full charge (don't turn on the fone while charging at this time).

Just remove the battery and wait a few sec.

reset batterystats the way that's worked properly for me

I want to explain a method that actually gives me real results for resetting the batterystats after a ROM upgrade. I never thought a batterystats reset did anything and it's likely because I wasn't doing it this way. For this I use a conjunction of two things but really you could do the actually deleting of the batterystats.bin file in clockwork or by other means.
Reference Zeppelinrox's thread "Calibrating Without Downtime!" for the long version...
First, I use this Battery Calibration app from the market.
After a ROM upgrade I let my phone charge until a full charge. The Battery Calibration app helps because it'll ding which is nice.
Delete the batterystats file, and while leaving your phone plugged in, pull off the cover and reboot.
At the 2nd LG logo (i.e. - pink and white one or Backside's (?) IHO logo) pull the battery out. Sometimes I wait 5 seconds, 10 seconds 20 seconds or whenever before I pull it out- just make sure it's during that part of the boot sequence.
At some point later in the boot sequence it's recreating the batterystats.bin file in the background and presumes the battery is not charged since it's been removed.
Put your battery back in, keeping the phone still plugged in.
You may have to do this routine a few times before you can tell but what should happen is you'll have a 100% pre-reboot and after the last step it'll drop down to a lower number that will need to be charged back up.
You may want to read Zepp's post because it may help to read his instructions too.
If you see a 'please put the battery in' type message just put it in and try the instructions a few more times.
I'm regurgitating someone else's work a lot. Thank Zeppelinrox for his work. Some of my finds have been from trudging through some of his ginormous threads. I'm just trying to pull out the nuggets.
Right so, I've tried this quite a bit, and I can never get to the lock screen without battery before the phone complains that I need a battery. I've inserted it after the vibration during the boot sequence but it'll show up at 100% at the lock screen.
EDIT: OK so I did something different that netted results.
I fully charged, batterystats.bin, then reboot per normal instructions. I counted 4 bananas P) once the pink and white LG Logo came up and pulled the battery. Instead of reinserting after vibration, I let it keep going until it asked me to insert battery. I slid it in, and the phone rebooted. I left it there and once I hit the lock screen my phone read at 99% instead of the "Charged" reading I was getting. I charged for an extra 20 minutes and my phone topped off at 4199mv.
During my trials trying to get a non-charged reading at the lock screen, I looked into Battery Monitor and I was seeing 4160mv-4197mv readings, all of them varying. I did not top off at 4199 until I did it the way I just described.
I end up counting too. I guess I haven't found a perfect number so I just try pulling the battery out at random times during the 2nd LG logo. Sometimes when I go through the steps I get all the way to the Android boot screen with the message "connect your charger" for the battery status on the lock screen and I can even use my phone. I think at that point I know I've done it right since it's fully booted and had to have created the new batterystats.bin file.
Once I've put the battery back in I've seen it be as low as 91% after a reset when I've done it this way.
After reading your last sentence it looks like you're getting similar results to what I get. Now I know I'm not b.s.-ing so thanks for the feedback

Is this normal? Battery Charging Issue

Hi
I am running my Nexus with the bootloader unlocked, rooted using superboot and running francisco kernel.
1. I let my device run its battery down so it turned itself off.
2 .I then left it turned off and connected the charger. The Battery icon appeared with the lightning bolt. About 15 mins later I tried to turn the device on (still showing the Battery with Lightning bolt), it wouldn't turn on.
3. I disconnected the charger and the battery with the lightning stayed on the screen. The device still wouldn't turn on.
4. I then pulled the battery, which removed the battery icon, replaced the battery and repeated step 2 & 3 again. The same result occurred.
5. I then pulled and replaced the battery and turned the device on without the charger. The device turned on and had 15% charge. I have now connected the charger and am charging it with Android running.
Is this normal behaviour? It just seemed a bit strange to me?
Cheers
Stewart
From what I've read elsewhere, the offline charging issue is related to the installation of CWM, and it's being looked into.

Ah ok, I forgot to mention that I did have CWM installed!
Thanks for the reply, glad to know that I am not going mad!

Battery voltage level issue

So my phone was at ~50% battery today when I did a reboot in AOKP M3. For whatever reason, it shut down, but didn't restart and the power button didn't turn the device on either. Easy enough solution, I just did a quick battery pull and restarted my GNexus. Now it's reading 100% charged at 3820mV when that should be at ~4200mV. Anyone know how to fix this? Plugging it in says it's charged. I know deleting the batterystats file won't actually do anything either. Should I just drain it and then charge it back up?
Ya, in this case I would delete the stats file anyway and run a benchmark in a loop until the GN switches itself off. Then recharge to 100% and do not interrupt the charging process. Guess there is not much else you can do to "recalibrate" the meter.

Rom JellyTime battery low on start after fully recharged

Hi, I have a problem that when detach the phone from charging (battery charged) tells me, low battery and shuts down, however, if I turn it on with the cable attached, it is ok, how can I fix this?
thanks in advance
I have deleted your other thread with exactly the same title and text. Double posting is against xda rules. Don't do this again please.
I have had this problem before after wiping my battery stats through recovery. I usually just remove the charger and then put the charger back in to fix it. A reboot also seems to fix it for me.
