Case-mate Pop! Revision review with pictures - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I just received the new revision of the Case-mate Pop! and I wanted to write a quick review for those that were interested.
http://www.case-mate.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Nexus-Cases/Case-Mate-Samsung-Galaxy-Nexus-Pop-Case.asp
It seems that you should order these directly from Case-mate. Looking at the model numbers, amazon seems to have the older models still listed. You are looking for these:
Black/Grey: CM017295
Pink/Grey :CM017309
White/Grey: Not Currently available
First off the case feels extremely high quality. The idea of the case is to have the protection of the dual layer cases but co-molded together into a one piece case. It is a bit thicker than say tpu cases, but to me it feels perfect in my hand. The soft rubber has a nice feel, it is not too soft, and does not attract much lint. The plastic is a hard shiny plastic that adds to the rigidity and increases the protection of the phone. There is a nice lip on the screen side which provides lay flat protection.
This case fits REALLY well, the lip in particular hugs this case tightly all around. It is tough to actually remove the case. You have to use your nail, to really work the lip up and over at one corner first. That may be a negative for those who remove their cases often for what ever reason, but really makes for a premium feeling product.
The revision addresses the cutouts for the ports. They have really opened up the cutout for the usb port. You are NOT going to have any more problems plugging in a charger thats for sure (in my opinion a little too much.) They also added the hole for the speaker phone/camera mic which aligns perfectly.
I am using a Verizion LTE model and the extended battery fits very well in this case as well. The only thing is perhaps a slight difference in power button responsiveness, very slight. Personally I use a standard battery cover with the dremel mod for my extended battery.
Speaking of the buttons, they are covered, but case mate has done an incredible job with them. They slightly protrude out making them easy to find, and feel extremely nice to push. As far as covered buttons go, I imagine that this is as good as it gets. They feel very similar to using the phone naked.
I would highly recommend this case. I feel that it provides a really nice combination of protection and cosmetics. I also really wanted to mention the customer service that I received when I called about my case replacement. They were extremely helpful and very courteous. They shipped the case out the following day with tracking info via USPS. They really made me a loyal Case-mate customer for the future. As always feel free to ask any questions.

How do these cases handle dust? Also how well do they hug the device? I see a lot of cases that are tight at the top and bottom. but the sides are weak near the front.

This case does very well with dust/lint. The rubber is not too soft so it doesn't cling to debris.
You reminded me of something that I forgot to mention in the review. This case fits REALLY well, the lip in particular hugs this case tightly all around. It is tough to actually remove the case. Just what I need to hear. Nice review by the way. Thanks.

Here is a great review of this case on YouTube.

What about the revised versions of the Case-Mate Tough Case for the Galaxy Nexus? Last I was told was late January but I have not seen anything on this.
Nice to see a Case-Mate representative here on the forums

I was told that it will arrive within two weeks last week
they offered to send me a pop case last week or i can wait till next week to get the tough case, so I'm just waiting for that

I would love to get a white version of this case. Will you guys produce a white version?

I ordered mine from eBay last Saturday think off getting to used the old version till they send me the revised one. And to my surprise they send me the new version. IMHO it's a lot like the Speck Candyshell but it's more difficult to put on, I hope it's easier to take off if I need to. If you want here's the item number on eBay (180820339462) for the listing.

Ordered the extended battery for the GSM version and I have one question:
How do you take off this [email protected]$#@G case? Is damn near impossible...

Pop it from the back of the camera is what I've been told. Unsure if its the same method for the GN.

Finally figured out how to take this case off. Start at one of the bottom corners and then start pulling out the phone all round. You should watch out for the volume/power button.

One thing to note is that the White version is available, and I find the power button to be much more responsive than most TPU cases, or the Otterbox Commuter, which is about the same thickness.
Funny thing is, I found the White/Grey version with a CM017311 SKU, just like jrodsep.

CaseMate,
What should I do if the case I received from Case123USA on Amazon don't have (and doesn't even know about) the revision 2 case?

Anyone know where I can get a black version of the revised case? I don't see the black color on the Case-Mate site and I'm only seeing the older version on Amazon.
Thanks!

Sprint carries the whits/gray. That's the one I have
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

Thanks but the white/gray is also on Amazon. Can't find the black one.

Hi,
Could someone please tell me if, with time, there's dust or whatever between the phone and the case? Are there any scratches because of that? I work outdoors and I'm afraid this could happen. Anyone that works much in outdoors has any experience on this?
thanks

IMO you are going to have that issue with any case. The chances of a scratch are higher the harder the material is. You'll have the highest chance of a scratch with a hard case and the least chance with a silicone. I'd put this case in the middle like a TPU case. The parts that touch the case are softer than the hard exterior.

Best Evo Case for < $20 USD?

Hi Everyone,
So I just noticed a small scratch on the outer frame of my Evo's back camera frame today. :/ Unfortunately it's over the red paint job so it's quite obvious - and I'm now one day out of my 30 day return policy to boot, go figure. Oh well, another scratch amongst generations of cell phone ownership.
Hoping for a few suggestions of worthwhile cases available. I've seen quite a few options available on Ebay and various retailer websites (Seido, TPU, rubberized snap-ons, decals, etc. to name a few), but I'm hoping to get user input.
Ideally, I want something that won't add excess bulk to the phone, and will protect the back camera and maybe withstand a accidental drop or two without popping off.
I don't really have a need for anything that clips to a belt, but I would like something that supports the kick stand.
Thanks in advance!!
I've had the Best Buy Body Glove style case (bulky, grippy but the logos were raised and so wasn't grippy on a surface, cheap feeling), Sprint silicone case (loose fitting, grippy, covers a lot of the front of the phone, picks up dirt like crazy because of the grippy), and the new TPU case (looks grippy but is smooth, fits very tight on the phone, bottom port cutouts not as generous as the Sprint silicone case). For $6 shipped after the coupon available in the thread the TPU case in my opinion is unbeatable. I posted a ton of pics of the TPU case, they're on page 2 of the thread linked above also.

Thanks I'll check this out, sounds like it may be exactly what I'm looking for.
Any idea what the turnaround time is on shipping?
I've bought three of these so far, two for me in red and black, and a black one for a friend. They fit tight and have a nice and durable finish. Here is a pic of my red one that I took while installing a mounting disc for a car mount.

Ordered mine today (Saturday afternoon), hoping for similar fast shipping.
The Body Glove case is absolute junk. Within the first couple of days, the thin piece of plastic by the volume buttons broke off, and two minor drops resulted in pieces of the case breaking off, and both times the case came completely off the phone.
Meritline sells Skytouch cases for $6.99 and they're great. I've had the transparent one for a couple weeks now and am really impressed with the quality, especially for the price. It fits snugs, is easy to put on and take off and is thick enough to be plenty protective but thin enough not to add much bulk. I've dropped it twice since I added the transparent case and it has not cracked, or popped off.

Guys, just to follow up on this thread...I've ordered the TPU case and will post a few pics once I receive it.
After a little digging, I also found these hybrid flex skins via blog Good and Evo that seem like they could be viable contenders.
EVO Hard Cover Case
I got these from eBay, and these are very good. I like the feel and the look. I also got the Body Glove black case from Sprint Store but that was making the phone bulky.

You will be happy with the TPU case, the only gripe I have is that his tolerances were so tight that the damned thing is a bit hard to get off of the phone.
If there was anything I had to complain about it would be not leaving enough room around the headphone and charging spaces to plug a full sized cord in.
Other than that, perfect cases, even if you do have to make a bandaid for the power and volume buttons.
if you like rubber cases, I love my $9.95 Amzer Silicone case from Amazon. It's fallen a few times several feet and no damage whatsoever, and it's still pocketable, and makes it a lot easier to grip. I prefer them to hard cases for this reason, makes things much more 1 handable

All they have now is matte black, I think. I found some TPU cases on handhelditems, they have the cases in clear, black, pink and a few other obnoxious colors. Cost about $8.00 shipped with the coupon code "30htcoff".

Atrix TPU Case Received, pics inside

Hey everyone, I received my TPU case from EBay (item 290530353216) today, here are some comments and pics. The fit is only OK - the cutout for the USB/HDMI ports is a little off, and there is a little bit of an edge around the power button that impedes fingerprint swipability a little. I will say too that I didn't expect it to have the goofy pattern - what is it with TPU cases and argyle patterns?? Also, as you've noticed it is somewhat translucent.
I give it a 3/5. $7 shipped in the US. I'll keep it until another inexpensive case rolls around that is higher quality.
And just in case anyone wonders, on my screen are the Pandora Widget, Android Agenda Widget, and some apps. I am running ADW Launcher (free). Also, I know I left my back panel sticker on there, and that was on purpose.

Yeah seriously with the frikin argyle ****! Its like they made a billion sheets of the argyle TPU and they just like heat mold them to phones (not like thats how they're made). This will be my third phone encased in argyle TPU. Other two were the dark one like yours, this time I got sick of trying to hide the argyle and people asking about the stupid pattern. I got clear so, "yes its frikin argyle! got a problem!?"
Waiting for the Realook screen protectors to be cut. no idea why it takes them so long to cut the right size. Realooks are by far the best screens...
Everything is temporary at this point...I'll buy nicer stuff once my 30 days are up.
I was fortunate enough to have a solid black non-patterned TPU case for my EVO that someone on this forum actually commissioned and was selling out of their garage essentially.
Check out tpu-cases.com. I bought an all black one there, shipped same day. Quality is nice, it's glossy, feels good in the hand for an 8$ case.
the 1.99 one I got from ebay is decent
Nice, never seen that site before. I'll order one up and hopefully it'll get here by the time I'm home from travel. Wish someone would make one like I had for my Evo though - it was matte on the back and shiny on the front.

Well I tried the Speck (or whatever it's called) case from AT&T and hated it...looked and felt like a toy.
Then I tried the Otterbox Impact (the smallest case they make). It's made of a type of rubber that sucks up all dust and won't let it go. It's pure black rubber but after putting it in my pocket and driving up to Starbucks to meet some friends...it looked gray. My pockets don't have any lint or anything in them...and yet the case now looks completely gray. I just put it on yesterday. It's also a bit big for my tastes...and the phone can easily come out of the bottom.
I'm going to try the cheapest cases on eBay. They always worked great for my Nexus 1 and most other phones I've used. The cheap thin rubber is fantastic for me. The phone's so freaking sexy...I just don't want to add a bunch of mass to it.

i like the feather as well. not much in terms of impact protection, but most of my scratches come from the phone vibrating on the desk over time and scuffing the battery door, so its a nice line of defense against that. also, its a little less slippery than the standard battery door which i like

Yeah its great for worrying less about the normal wear and tear.
I particular like the argyle tpu cases which give decent protection and feel. i have it for the ipad, galaxy tab, atrix, inspire, and xoom.
www.degasis.net offers these as well
I ordered my case from http://www.degasis.net/models/atrix.html (as the poster above recommended. $6.98 shipped
This is the best fitting TPU case I've had across all my devices. The best part is that it actually makes the on/off button easier to push and the finger scanner easier to operate (its cut at the perfect angle to compliment it). Its slightly different cut but a better fit than the pictures posted above.
I'll post pictures when I come across another camera some time today or tomorrow.
TPU is far superior to any other case material in my book. perfect balance of grip/non-stick, thinness, protection, and fit.

That's the problem I have with the feather - it doesn't protect either end of the device, only the sides and back.
Judging by the picture, it looks like you have that "textured" screen protector. What is the screen protector you are using? Those are my favorite kinds and I have been trying to find one for a while! thanks in advance

OK, you've sold me on this case Good description of how it is, what colour did you get?

Ringke SGSII Case

Recently got this case as an alternative to the Otterbox case that I have. At times, I found that the otterbox was too bulky to have in my pocket and I wanted a case that preserved the slimness of the handset. After picking up a generic TPU case from ebay, I wasn't satisfied with the cutouts; specifically the two microphone cutouts. it muffled it so people weren't able to hear me talk.
Enter the Ringke case. It was obviously more expensive than a $5 from ebay at 16.99, but the notion of a non-slip polymer like a TPU case had appealed to me.

After putting it on my phone, I immediately noticed the difference between the two cases. The cutouts on each of the ports was perfectly fitted with space at the bottom of the case for the home button, which is a nice touch
The lanyard port on the side was also included, unlike both the otterbox case that I have and the TPU case.
On the top, the headphone jack port is easily accessible. I was able to plug in my grado sr80i headphones without having any issues like I did with the TPU case. The external mic port is also well placed.
The material used to make the case is not just silicon. There is a special polymer material that allows it to slip in and out of my pocket easily. It also doesn't attract dust like other silicon cases. The only gripe I have with this is that since I got the mango colored one, the dye from my jeans rubs off onto the material.
All in all, I'm happy with the case and would definitely go back to Rearth for any other silicon cases.

that's great! i dont mind paying the sub $20 it came out to if OP's review is accurate!
My turn!
So today I got my RearthUSA Ringke Galaxy S2 case in the mail. Chuck from marketing had initially contacted me a few weeks ago via XDA PM to ask me to try and rate/review the Ringke product for the S2 and he has been very friendly/courteous all throughout this process.
The first thing that came to mind when I saw this case was: WOW. This is definitely a high quality product. The material (a high quality polymer, as they say) feels great on the skin and slides easily in and out of a pocket. The polymer also makes the case extremely flexible making it very easy to put on. It also shines nicely in the light. I got a blue one as, you'll see below in my album.
I love the look of it. I love how it fits so well with the contour of the phone. I love the intricate details in the design such that it moulds well with every nook and cranny in the device's design.
Every single thing that you need access to has an opening: the USB port, the microphone, the camera, the speaker, the headphone jack and three more for things I can't figure out but are definitely part of the phone (except for the one at the top right, couldn't figure that one out at all). And they are done EXCEPTIONALLY well; no rough edges at all.
The volume rockers and power button feel great. They're really tactile unlike some other cases where it feels like you're forcing the case into the button to press it.
The pictures I took are really big and look bad in a forum, so here's a direct link to the ImageShack album I made:
http://imageshack.us/g/52/img0987ab.jpg/
I obviously got this product for free, but it only costs $16.99 with FREE SHIPPING. If I were to suggest a case to anyone, it would be this one. The unfortunate thing for me is that I don't use cases because of my car dock. I find it annoying to have to take the phone out of the case AT LEAST two times a day, every day. It's funny, because this is a free product that I didn't think I would care much about, and I'm honestly upset about the fact that I can't use it. I may try for a few days to see how much of a nuisance it is to be constantly taking it out and putting it back in.
I WISH this case fit with my official S2 car dock.

Has anyone tried both the Ringle and the SGP ultra silke? My SGP ultra silke seems too loose and I would like to get a tighter fitting case.
Cut outs and buttons on the SGP are superb and the Ringke looks equivalent.

Both are a bit loose as both are very thin silicone..cut outs are perfect with both
For a tighter fitting you must try a tpu case...
I thought I would share with you the Maroon coloured version of the Ringke case. I also purchased the Ringz audio cap along the case. Overall I like the case and recommend it. The surfaced etching layer on top of the high polymer really gives the case a nice feel that does not attract dust or fingerprints. I was disappointed to find out that Rearth now do micro USB caps after I have purchased the case. I would of like these as well and the expensive delivery charge to international countries is preventing me from doing this.
The only minor drawbacks of this case is it is not going to fully protect your phone from major drops. The top microphone cut out is not centred and it is slightly loose around the volume and power button. Not sure how long the material is going to last but I hope it will last the entire life of the phone.
After using this case for over a month now. The material is starting to get sticky on the corners. This is a shame but I guess once a silicone case always a silicone case regardless of any coating.
free cases, bah! I pay for all my cases and may review them anyway.
free good for review= good review.
Top right corner is missing because its for korean version. Wrong case or wrong phone?
Ringke should have maybe made a tiny lanyard hole in top of case to connect 'lanyarded' jack plug. Same with USB plug. So plugs can't get lost. Furthermore, the plugs should come with the case as default. Not too much to ask for that price. I mean the price that other people pay for the case. But nice review, pretty nice detailed case. Like the speaker detail. NOT top right corner. Do they make this case with all 4 corners protected?

Best case

So after all the threads, I just wanted to see what was the best case. This is all opinion case obviously. I have the otterbox but this thing is a behemoth even thought it probably provides the best protection. I'm not clumsy but just looking for a nice case that doesn't add bulk and serves it's purpse
I have the Diztronic Matte Back Black Flexible TPU Case and I love it. Very slick and comfortable.

what do you mean. I have the CDMA version and got the 2100 mAH extended battery, doesn't add anything more to the phone and I can use the same back cover!

+1. Got myself the grey one today. Fit is perfect and it feels great in my hand. Slim enough for my tastes too.

I have the diztronic case. It doesn't seem to fit perfectly on my phone. Like a couple of reviews on youtube, the volume buttons don't line up correctly making it a bit difficult to press. I decided to cut out a hole in the case to access the buttons. I might not be using it for too long once my skinomi skin comes in.

I have both the case-mate Tough Case and just got the Incipio Slicrilic today.
An Otterbox Commuter is in the mail.
So far I own 3 basic TPU, the Cruserlite Androidified, the Diztronic, the Rock barely there and the above two.
I must say that overall so far I like the Incipio the most, for protection and button action.
The Tough Case has a really sticky powerbutton, so that takes points off from it.
The volume buttons are a bit off on the Diztronic, though overall case design is excellent, and the power button is exposed for easy feedback.
All other TPUs have buttons fully covered, (basic TPU x3 and the Cruzerlite) and they are last on the list. Free for the shipping cost to anyone who wants them
The ebay Rock 'barely there' is second in my list, for small size, protection and full access to ports.
My unit is the GSM version; we'll see how the Otterbox Commuter tips the scales next week

i have this case as well... if you look at your case, on the top right corner is there a rough spot? like mine has a rough spot, basically a small rectangle that doesn't flow with the case.

Hardly noticeable, looks like a spot for power button. For the price u cannot beat this case. Fit is perfect and it does not add any bulkiness

that's what i thought, i just wanted to be sure and it wasn't just my case. i agree I feel as though this fit is perfect. i don't see to have much an issue with the volume rocker placement as others. In fact, mine works fine...
my one concern would be if i dropped the phone, not sure if it would offer much protection for the screen, but then again the same can be said about most cases offered
I'm getting the extended battery today and the TPU Ditztronic case on Tuesday ("two day shipping"). I'll post some pics as the hardware comes in.

Which Otterbox do you have? I always use the Commuter and it doesn't add much bulk.
On my last phone (HTC Inc) I had an Otterbox Commuter. The case added a significant amount of bulk, so I knew I wanted something that added less bulk than that, but I still wanted something that was both plastic and silicon/rubber because I knew that was best for protection of the phone in case of a drop.
After a lot of hunting, the only case I could find was the Incipio Silicrylic which Verizon sells as the Incipio Double Cover. Aside from the rubbery portion being a lint magnet, which doesn't bother me personally, I'm happy with it. Since the case has rubber coming up the sides instead of plastic like my previous Otterbox on my Inc, it's more comfortable to hold and it is more form fitting to the shape of the device width-ways. It still comes up over the corners, which many consider to be the most vulnerable spot for a phone to hit the ground at. The plastic cover portion does not have the hard, shiny finish like my previous Otterbox - it has more of a soft, suede feel to it.

I know its not for everyone, but with a 17 month old boy the otterbox is good for me and my LTE version phone.

Anyone got this case? It seems awfully similar to an Otterbox Commuter, but possibly less bulky due to the silicon an acrylic portions being joined as one. I was just wondering how it compares as far as shock/drop protection.
**Update 6.29.12**
Got my phone and case yesterday and here's my review on it
Not gonna be long winded here, just short and to the point. The silicone sleeve fits perfectly although the lack of the hard plastic shell extending over the top and bottom parts of the sleeve do allow for the sleeve to be pushed back in those areas if you were to say, put the phone in the pocket of your skinny jeans. Glad I don't have to worry about that as nothing about me is skinny, not even my jeans. Once the sleeve is on, the hard plastic shell snaps into place much easier than that of the Otterbox, and you don't have to worry about trying to get the shell over the buttons like on the Otterbox either. The shell has a matte look and feel to it, looks very sexy and feels good too but the finish is a bit too smooth/slippery IMO. The Otterbox on my Atrix 2 was just plastic and it was much less slippery when holding it. The thing that surprised me the most is how little bulk it adds to the phone and how little lint the silicone sleeve attracts. I wear cargo pants at work, cream colored one's, and I keep the phone in one of the side pockets...the sleeve on my Otterbox would attract lint from them, although it was cleaned away by simply blowing on the effected area right quick. I've had this phone in and out of my pocket all day and it's relatively lint free. With the case all installed the power and volume buttons are very easy to press, even allowing you to hear and feel the "click" of each press, it feels as if you don't even have anything covering the buttons. The cut outs for the charger/headphone jack ports and the microphones are precise and spot on allowing unobstructed access to them all.
The only things I would change is I would make the shell a different texture, something with a bit more grip and I'd add covers/plugs for the charger/headphone jack ports so they are protected when not in use. Other than that, a great case that hopefully won't get tested for durability anytime soon
I'd recommend this case for sure, it's sleek and sexy and adds to the look of this sexy beast of a phone. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a 9.
i just ordered one yesterday.

Seriously though, do post a review once you get it
LOL,
I'll keep you posted....
Sounds good.
Where did you get it, from them directly or somewhere else?

+1. I've got an otter box commuter on my captivate and after trying several cases, I kept coming back to the commuter. If this is similar and only one piece, I'd be very interested in it for my future phone (s3)

I checked out some videos on youtube and this case is pretty much their version of the Otterbox, the main difference is this one doesn't have covers for the charger and headphone jacks. Check the video
I think i'm gonna get this case instead of the Otterbox. I liked the Incipio case I had for my Sony Ericcson x10i and since the Otterbox isn't set to be released until July I figured this would be the way to go. Amazon has them for $24.38 shipped
Just ordered mine, should be here by the time I get my phone
Tracking info rcvd! These guys dont play around! At this rate the case is gonna beat the phone

These were both linked previously. I just wanted to put them here for ease of viewing.
I like how the NGP is thinner and less bulky but don't know if it will provide enough drop protection.
I've had a Silicryllic on a Gnex and HTC Titan...
Very good case for protection, definitely will take a pretty big hit as it has some give in it to absorb shock. Also gives the screen some decent face down protection too as it comes around the side better than most hard cases. It's no defender, but it's much more pocketable on those two 4.7" devices.
The only issue I ever had was the rubber catches more pocket lint than most cases, but that's just a quick cleaning every week or two, or just hit the shirt once a day with it.
EDIT: I'll probably get one for this eventually as I like to have a thin everyday case (already ordered a Rock quicksand) to protect against everyday scratches when setting it down/falling out of hand, etc, and a bulkier one for events, outdoor stuff, or just yardwork/housework/garage days.
Thanks for the link! I was about to pull the trigger on this Candyshell by Speckproducts but they are out of stock of the black so I ended up buying the Incipio instead.
