plz let me know if you find one that works. thats the only thing that stoping me from making it my daily rom
you can confirm that bluetooth tether works?
I cant find one as of rate now
I can confirm that the Wireless Tether for Root Users app does work. Version 3.1 beta 11. Under Settings > Device Profile, use Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE). I was however unsuccessful in getting this to work using Wifi encryption(password), but it does work with User Access Control.

anyone have a tutorial on how tether for devices?
I would like to tether my kindle fire when im not near a wifi hotspot.
I couldnt find tethering manager on my phone so i couldnt freeze it, but i did download barnacle tethering app. So some help would be greatly appreciated. this is all new to me....im running cm7
in not sure but you might have to have the pro version of titanium backup. You go to backup/restore it will list all the apps for you alphabetically and it should be there. Just freeze it and you should be good to go.
ive had the pro version for like ever and its not there, do they delete it on cm7??
Tethering manager is only on stock/stock based roms. If you want to tether to to settings>wireless>tethering and just turn it on

I found this thread using the search feauture.. KUDOS to me..
But anyways I was wondering if I was gonna get charged the $15/month if I used the feature? Im running Jauggernaunt and Tethering Manager isnt there either but it does amazingly. Hopefully not !

Almost all of the custom ROMs here come with one built into the Sprint Hotspot app. Otherwise you can download an app called "Wifi Tether" from the marketplace if you want. Much easier to just use those ROMs though since they have other benefits.
If your on ics, download the newer beta version of the wifi tether and under settings choose your device as galaxy nexus, here's the link to all the wifi tether.apk's

iniz94,
the wifi tether on the market doesnt work and I do not know how to change my OS
xST4T1K,
I have tried just about all wifi tethers from the link you provided and none work except Version 6 is seen by my computer but i still cant connect and also I went into settings and changed my device to samsung galaxy nexus and it still didnt work. But when I was using Version 6 which my computer was able to see there was no device showing galaxy nexus obviously due to an older tether.
When I bought the phone it was called Samsung Galaxy S2 but people also refer to it as epic touch 4g. The model # is SPH-D710. Is it because the phone is newer to the market and no one has created a working wifi tether for this model yet?
The phone is a cdma variant of the galaxy S 2 line of phones branded epic 4g touch by sprint are you rooted? if youve never changed your kernel or ROM your kernel may not allow wireless tether to work properly you need superuser and busybox for it to actually broadcast the internet you may need to do a little research and learn how to use recovery and odin and change your ROM and/or kernel so you can have tethering support and sprint has blocked wireless tether apps on our market

Go to the market and get FoxFi. Wifi and Bluetooth tethering, works even without root, and it's not blocked from the market. And it's free.

Thanks everyone for your advice and help. Foxfi is working without changing my ROM or kernel

I have spring samsung epic tough 4g.
I rooted it to a stock OS using a simple method I found on the web here:
http://epic4gtouchroot.com/epic-4g-touch-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s2-epic-4g-touch-newsph-d710/
I did not install clockwork mod..only rooted my phone.
I then installed the latest ver of wifi tether beta.
I cannot get it to work with Encryption enabled...it works in AD HOC mode without encryption...although, a few times the app crashed on me and one time my phone rebooted when using wifi tether app...seems pretty unreliable.
I searched for foxfi in google store....does not come up for me at all...does this still exist ?
can i install that on rooted phone?
What is your advice to me at this point?
Should I use a custom ROM or wait for a fix on wifi tether?

Any Gingerbread ROM. It depends what you are looking for. Please do not try any ICS roms until you're ready to do so. It can be dangerous to your phone if you don't know exactly how the rom and flashing work with ICS.
Here are 2 of the most popular Gingerbread ROMS out there:
Calkulin's 3.0 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332837
Blazer 4.1 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363071
Calkulin's has more of a stock look and feel & Blazer's Rom is very similiar but themed blue throughout.
If you are not rooted yet, here is a quick tutorial:

I have gotten the Wifi Tether (for root users) to work. As the title suggests you have to be rooted for it to work and you have to be using the correct settings. Please see attached photos. You should only have what is shown in the pictures selected (nothing else)
Essentially the same phones except the Epic 4G Touch (SPH-D710) is Sprint. Battery cover still says Galaxy S 2 ...

Hello, I've been trying to figure out how would I get wifi tethering to work on Paranoid Android. I've been searching now and I found a thread to download it and such. I read the changelog and I noticed this above v1.2
"-Wifi Tethering doesnt works, but USB/Bluetooth works fine"
Has this been fixed on the newest version? I really want to download Paranoid Android on my phone but one of the things that I NEED are USB and Wifi Tethering, because USB and Wifi Tethering are the only ways I can access the internet on my PC/Game Systems/etc... This ROM seems so cool too, but I can't download it if Wifi tethering won't work.
Oh, and if you want to know what phone I have in case of any reason, I have the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Toro).
Thanks.

I'm running PA on my GNexus and wifi tether works flawlessly, I've not tried USB tether but the option is there and I've no reason to suspect it won't work.
PA is a great ROM, make a nandroid and flash it, you have nothing to lose. :good:

You don't need a third party app, I'm just using the built in JB wifi tethering.

How do I do that? I don't know how to do it? Will verizon charge me and give me a 2GB cap? I'm used to using that app, so I don't know how to tether via wifi. >.<

So, I just go on settings and use the systems wifi tethering? Will verizon notice I'm doing that and charge me for that? Thats my only problem too, the third party app that I use doesn't charge me or anything. So, won't using the normal tether on the settings menu (while on Paranoid Android) cause verizon to charge me for that feature? Please answer ASAP.
Whilst I was on stock I tried and failed to use the 3rd party app I had prev used on GB to tether so I think it is a JB issue rather than a PA one.
Regardless of how you tether you will use data and incur data charges from Verizon. That may or may not be against your contract rules. Your 3rd party app was still using data which Verizon will have been charging you for.
To tether on JB you go to settings > wireless and networks > more... > tethering and portable hotspot.

What I ment was Verizon has a extra service for making a wifi hotspot, that you'd have to pay monthly. So it sucks actually, I don't want to be paying for two services. The third party app actually bypasses it or something, because it works fine without Verizon noticing. But, again, I don't want to be paying for two services.
I can't really answer that question then, though I don't see how the JB tethering will work any differently to the 3rd party app in that respect.
Maybe someone on Verizon will be able to confirm, or you could just try it and see.

I've tried lots of threads that said the only way to get free tethering on the s3 is (tmovile) is by rooting then installing "root users tethering" application.
I followed instructions and used "generic ICS" mode - this worked for my first couple attempts at connecting to tmobile tethering... but now it just doesn't work at all - and only in about 1 in ten time it says it is in tether mode is there ever even a wifi signal to pick up - and when it does pick up most of the time now it wont connect (says internet connection problem on PC)
are there any roms that offer this functionality as standard? or any other foolproof apps?
thanks
I'm rooted on stock and have found no working method.

You must choose the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE) option in profile. It will then work great.

Is there a way to use the native tetherkng option yet? On the S2, it was as easy as freezing TetheringProvisions app. Any luck for the S3?
I use wifi tether for root users under generic ics profile and it works fine for me. I have to restart the phone each time i use it though, not sure why.

Yes, it is USB. I've been using it since I had the Mytouch 3G. I don't see a need in using WiFi tether unless you are sharing it with other people or using a Tablet. If you are using a PC then I don't see why you wouldn't want to use USB tethering since it doesn't use any battery power.
Rooted using wifi tether and works no problems. Sometimes i do need to restart wifi tether to get the signal. I am using galaxy nexus (gsm) as the profile.
Mine works. Here's a the tutorial.

i believe all the carriers make you pay to use the native wifi tethering.. I use foxfi and it seems to work fine for me. it's on the play store.
TMO gave me free tethering but it would only work with the TMO tethering app (throttled), not with any other app. After I rooted the other apps worked fine and the root tether app is much faster then the TMO app.
Cool. Thanks guys
ClockWorkMod
First, you will need to download the ClockWorkMod tethering app.
Then, you will need to download the driver for your PC. You can download the driver onto your phone open the file on your PC by connecting your phone to the USB. It pretty much walks you through everything to get started. Takes less than ten minutes and voila, you're online. I searched forever to find this and just discovered it. Now all I need is hotspot so I can use this with my Chromebook. Here is the link to download the driver clockworkmod.com/tether/drivers
Just click Samsung drivers and it will download.
It works great. The only thing that I have noticed that may be a problem is that I got kicked off once. I just started using it so I'm not sure if it happens often, but all I had to do to get it back on was turn off the app on my phone, and on my PC then turn it on from my phone and then click start on my PC.
It's only a trial version, but the full version can be purchased directly from the app once the trial runs out for $4.99. Hope this helps! Enjoy!

Ok I am new to tethering since I have always used Comcast....
I have the unlimited data plan from Tmo.... Unlimited data plan comes with 500mb of free tether.... soon enough it will run out... I need to make sure my tether works AND make sure if I do these methods they won't find out I'm tethering....
I just wanted to clarify my question...
So how do I go about this....? as of now my phone is not rooted but it will be if need be....
Everything online is telling me to root my phone and use 30934983458 different apps... if anyone is kind enough can someone explain please how this process works (I am not a noob with phones just with tethering)
Pardon if it's been addressed already. Searched with no results.
Any wi-fi tethering fix available? Can't seem to get it going on this or CM10.1. Think I might have to reflash an older version. Tethering is crucial at work.
Simple search in either the CM10.1 thread or the AOKP thread you'd see its currently not working..

There are some ROMs that have the patch in place
Me, I use a Jellybean based ROM and just use the bluetooth tether [as it uses less battery]
open settings on phone and tablet or bluetooth device [get USB adapter if laptop doesn't already have it]
pair the devices
tap the more button in settings on phone tap tethering tap the checkbox for bluetooth tether
WiFi Specific
Install a Jellybean based ROM visit settings [I enjoy ParanoidAndroid] more> tethering and hotspot>Wi-Fi tether.
If need look in market for FoxFi it is free and does WiFi tethering via an app if you prefer that.
