MTP Media Device - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Anyone know how to make our phone access mass storage automatically when you plug in your phone on the FB21 ROM? It is a pain accessing mass storage through the settings every time. The MTP media device option is useless to me.

uninstalling the drivers on your PC and then reinstalling them have had mixed results. might be a good place to start. otherwise you might just have to deal with mass storage

Gio mass storage.. or is it?

Hi,
Now I know that someone has asked this before, but googling through here ( as in the internets ) is near impossible unless you know exactly what you are looking for.
Now the Gio is somewhat left behind, because to use it as a mass storage device ( flash drive/card reader ) you have to have Kies drivers installed. This is, of course, frustrating. I've recently flashed to CM ( phiexz YOU ARE THE CORNERSTONE OF GIO COMMUNITY AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED ) in hopes that this would be fixed, because in my own mind it's a software issue... Turns out that it still needs drivers. I don't know what levels of complete retardness one must reach to do something like this to a 2011 smartphone ( even a budget one ).
So the question is : how do you ( is it possible ) to use mass storage capability without drivers installed on host pc?
Thank you.
Nohow.
Since the PC itself needs some drivers to recognize all of the capabilities of the phone, it is nearly impossible to have your phone making prober connection without drivers.
Although, in Linux(Ubuntu 11.10) I just connect the phone and recognises it as a card reader. This may be because of the Linux basics of both system, I dunno.

Well several other phones ( LG p500 for example) can be used as regular flash drives ( sd ) on windows based machines without any drivers or CWM's
Never mind but why installing drivers is such a big issue? I installed kies once I bought this set and since then I just connect my device to windows machine and it detects it as a drive. I don't use kies at all!
And if you find installing drivers really frustrating then try using apps that let you transfer data over wifi connection (airdroid etc.). They don't require drivers (hopefully) but i'm not sure though. Better give it a try.

Oh no, USB mass storage is gone on Android 4.0 ICS Samsung G2 4GT

Ok i need some Major help with this Bare with me this is my first Post
Oh no, USB mass storage is gone on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Samsung Galaxy S II. We should be able to use USB storage mode when enable USB debugging in Gingerbread. But it is not working on Android 4.0.4 ICS Samsung Galaxy S2. I have 2 options ~ Media device (MTP) and Camera (PTP) modes to choose only.
1.Bring up Settings.
2.Click More… (under Wireless and network).........I dont have this option at all on my device
3.Then select USB utilities ~ Set USB cable connection mode.
4.Select Connect storage to PC then.
5.Connect USB cable from phone to PC.
6.Select Turn on USB storage.
7.That’s all.
i do understand this process but its not a option for me at all i am so stuck
Try sfhubs autoroot package, though personally I like MTP mode, I can still move and copy files to/from the phone.
Just get USB switcher from the market

no USB utilities
I do not have "USB utilities" option on Android 4.1.1 ICS Samsung G2, so I do not know how to connect storage to PC. Anyone have an idea about it? Thanks a lot!

Did you read the posts above? They present a couple different ways to change MTP back to USB storage.

None of them work for me either. I need it built into the phone without this pain in the butt to enable. I just ordered 990 S2's that I assume will have 4.0.4 installed like the 4 samples I have here; I have told Samsung that I will need to cancel my order if it is not an option on the device as it is required for my use. Granted, this is only about a thousand phones so it may not be enough for Samsung to care, but we shall see.
You have to reinstall the USB drivers to make it work.

That's only because the transfer is being made over MTP; it would not exist if the storage was presented as mass storage. The user should be able to change the way the device shows up; between MTP and mass storage. I am not going to spend the payroll to install drivers on a thousand laptops, and a regular user shouldn't have to either. I understand that sometimes phones have problems with media scanning, but that should be a user settable option and the user can make a decision.

How to disable MTP?

I know there must be multiple posts on this, but after an hour, I'm striking out. I found a .ZIP for a GSII, but that did not work.
Any ideas?

SGS3 EASY UMS (look for it here [free version] or in the play store [donate version]) mounts your phone as Universal Mass Storage rather than MTP if you want that option.

Couldn't we just use the *#7284# to access the utility menu and change it that way?
Sent from my HTC MyTouch 4G
Sorry new to this. But would this have any negative effects if I used the above app to change to usb mass to download music from my computer? Mtp is slow and media monkey scans the whole phone before it syncs. Could I just keep it set to usb or would something not work after that?

HELP! Turn off storage: Galaxy Amp
I don't know if this is the right thread to put this but anyway...
I have a Samsung Galaxy Amp, a much cheaper, much watered-down version of the Galaxy Series, and I have been trying to enable default installation of apps to the external sd card. However, adb devices won't recognize my device because (I think) MTP storage is on.
I Have USB debugging on and the the device works fine over USB. However there is no way to disable storage from the phone's settings. It will automatically enter MTP storage on connection and I can't unmount it from the PC.
To be clear I want to disable ALL storage on the phone, not enable mass storage
Much of the menu options, style, setup, etc are similar to the s3. Any help would be appreciated.
*Also MTP is my best guess of why adb devices won't detect it, if it's something else insight on that will be much appreciated as well, thanks.

Sounds more like a driver issue to me. Click on "Drivers" in my sig and download and install the latest drivers. Then go to device manager, find where it shows your device, right click it and Update Drivers.
If that doesnt work, you can also try the UniversalAdbDriverSetup6.msi. Though after installing this, you may have reinstall the Samsung drivers again later in order to use MTP/UMS or Odin.
Normal operation for me, I can connect using ADB and still have access to the phones storage at the same time.
Thanks!

Thanks! This worked great! The reason i thought it was MTP is because most articles make a point of telling you to turn off storage. Sorry if I posted in the wrong place and thanks again.

You can do that by default. The phone uses MTP (Media Transfer Protocol), which is used exclusively(I think) by Windows. It should mount as an external drive automatically, unless you have PTP checked instead which will mount it as a digital camera.

Ye, indeed the problem is that it doesn't mount automatically, so i'm here asking for help.
You will never get the GNex to mount via USB Mass Storage mode. It will only transfer files via MTP or PTP, or via ADB.

If i connect my phone it just mounts (not as mass storage) but the media server.
Which basically works the same as mass storage, No kies involved i don't even have kies installed.

both modes it uses SUCK. usb mass storage is the only way to go.
if you're rooted you might be able to try a nice little command to make it go into storage mode. if you are google enable usb mass storage mode and try it out.
Use this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711009
It works fine on Note 2 even though its made for S3, you might get com.process.media error when click UMS, just go and turn off Media Storage in app manager and it should connects just fine.
media server sucks.. its not the right way..
thank you very much!
:/ phone must be rooted!
does i lose my warranty if i root my phone?
I gave up on Usb connection and now use an app called Wi Fi File Transfer Pro.
It's great and transfers any size of file quite fast
