Hello everyone, I kinda feel dumb asking this question, but I'm looking for a good and easy to use app to control the TV's in my home with my E4GT.
I have:
1 42" Plasma HDTV downstairs connected to a Comcast digital cable box. No built in wifi. I'd love to be able to use just the basic controls on this one, no need to use it to access DVR... I will use the regular remote for that (bonus if I can though).
1 32" Vizio LCD HDTV upstairs in my bedroom, with just a basic digital adapter. This TV has built in wifi so I can stream Netflix/youtube/etc... and would love to use my phone so I can type in to search easier with a keyboard.
I saw this app, and it looks to me like it would work, just wanted to see if anyone has experience/recommendations for apps to do the purpose I want. It's perfectly fine if it's a paid app, I don't mind supporting developers for a solid, well working app.
Since most of your devices don't have wifi and the Vizio doesn't have any IP control capabilities and the E4GT does not have an IR out, you would need to use some sort of intermediary device, such as a Peel. I have never used one so I can't vouch for it at all.
link- http://www.peel.com/index.php?gclid=CJTFmsqOuq4CFcNrKgodIjehnA&
And actually now that I think of it, Comcast has their own app that will allow you to control their cable boxes with your phone. I used it with my iPad and it is very slow, but it does work.

I'm also tempted by this concept. I think there would be a transition period where I moved all of my media and everyday use to my phone (with a keyboard and mouse and full size monitor)...and I bet it would be rapid and I'd only keep my PC for the only thing anyone uses PCs for anymore: Content production.
The only time I *need* a PC is for work stuff: Photoshop, Vegas, excel. Also Audition and a few other pro audio apps out of work...and I'm sure the excel thing could be taken out the the equation pretty quickly.
Everything else? Media consumption, web browsers, communications, etc...all on the phone and/or tablet now. To be able to take my main computer with me would be fantastic...it would also make PocketCloud infinitely more useful on a full screen with a full desktop interface (kb/mouse/full screen).
This is going to happen. Between "the cloud" and our own smaller clouds (home networks, SAN/NAS/Home Servers, media sharing hardware, etc) keeping a quad core 300-500 watt behemoth around is getting less and less necessary.
The only grey area so far is 'games', but, most people consume those on game consoles so that's likely a moot point.
...an interesting time to be alive in many ways, technology especially.
Yeah I did this as well. I never could pair it to my original epic.

Has anyone found a work around for the home button on the logitech tablet keyboard??? MY home button on my keyboard does not do anything. I have tried a combination of other buttons to see if i could get the same action with no luck. just wondering if anyone eles has had any luck???
Alright so i have an idea here. A friend gave me his old incredible and at first I just used it as an voip house phone. Now that boxee is such a pita I had the thought that maybe I could use the dinc for that aspect of entertainment. Here's the plan: I have an older TV (read rca hookups only) in the bedroom. The TV out cable goes usb to rca right? Hook that puppy up with a charger and the tv, put netflix app on it and it's a media center! Get the tablet remote app to control it from the bed using my rezound with bluetooth? IDK if this setup would work as I don't have the tv out cable and i'm not willing to spend the dough on it if this doesn't work. (I'm a cheapskate.) Thoughts, comments, concerns? Thanks ahead!
Edit:
Nevermind, it seems that the tablet remote doesn't work so well. Although I may set it up and just disregard the remote control part. Unless of course anyone has other options...
You could also setup a windows media server on your pc, and then use an app called Homedia to stream your music pictures and vidoes to your phone connected to your tv. You could do both and have netflix and all of your personal vidoes pics and music. Then you wold have a true media center, tv, streaming, personal media.
Thanks, but really I'm looking for something dirt cheap and micro-machine small. I had a laptop set up with boxee and xbmc for a while, I just don't really have room for even that amount of clutter. All I want is netflix on an old tv, I'll probably end up just putting the dinc up there and getting up to manually change shows. Beats rabbit ears and fine tuning the uhf dial like when I was a kid though lol.
Edit: I looked back attention post and I see what you're saying but the laptop I have from 2005 is the only pc I have and I can't dedicate it as a media server. The one I was using as a htpc crapped out on me finally, it was a 2004 hp so it gave me more than I ever expected. So my options are very limited for now.

Is it possible to attach a BT trackball/keyboard without a dongle, or somehow use an other adapter I can attach (possible by a double adapter)
Once connected to my TV the only way to change any input is via the Note.

Hi Purchased from Amazon UK (seller was Amazon)http://http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0051D3KKI/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 actual price £23.55 but now looks like Amazon have suspended that item until they review a complaint, suggest you keep an eye on that link.
Surprised No has been able to answer my question regarding BT trackball!!!
If its a BT track ball I would think it will hook up just fine, same way a BT mouse would.
Just to let you know if you are in the UK with a HMV store nearby you can get these for £10. Picked up a couple last week.

Hi which one do you have, how do you connect it to the tablet, I assume its just Bluetooth no dongle, thanks.:good:
Simple the original one:
http://www.amazon.de/PlayStation-Du...HY/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1362585611&sr=8-10
bought it when it was on amazon for 35€ incl. shipping!!! nice deal i thought. I do connect it with the app "sixaxxis" (bluetooth). Requires root though, but pretty nice app. Now i can play all the games of my childhood: zelda (oot, n64), tekken (psx) without the need to install the damn ugly consoles in my living room .. thats just awesome!!
After installing the app I noticed that you can emulate a mouse. That is very useful to me for streaming movies from my server, look something up on imdb and so on with the hdmi adapter...
any more questions? ?

Thanks, not rooted, do not want to go in that direction, so am I correct in assuming you can only connect bt directly to tablet when you root it, otherwise I need a dongle??
So no way of having it connect to bt when using the hdmi adapter, bummer.
Question: Is the HDMI output lag-free, do the homescreens run smooth and is the image quality okay?
I just sent back the wireless allshare adapter because the streamed image has 15FPS when not buffered, the quality is worse than i expected and it ends every multitasking capability of the Note.

Well, keep in mind the ASCD won't mess with the resolution or color depth of the image displayed on the LCD, so if you see video quality issues (bad scaling or graininess or such) it's likely due to what your TV does with the not-quite 720P resolution of the signal from the Note 10.1 (1280x720 isn't a native resolution of most monitors and likely scales it to 1366x768), so I'm betting that the picture via the HDMI hard-wired cable will look the same (on static images) as did the picture from the ASCD.

New 2013 model of HDTV Adapter?
I'm shopping around for an HDTV Adapter for my GT-N8010 at the moment, and I've noticed that several online shops are advertising a new 2013 model - EPL-NPHPBKG.
e.g. - www dot amazon dot com /Original-Samsung-Genuine-EPL-NPHPBKG-EPL-3PHPBEG/dp/B00B8NJ6E4
They claim that it is the next verson of EPL-3PHPBEG (the model that this thread is about). Does anyone know what the difference is? The only thing I can see that might be an improvement is "Simultaneously charge your Galaxy Note 10.1 while streaming". I've seen reports on other threads about their tablet not charging while plugged in to the HDTV adapter. Can you confirm if this functionality exists on your EPL-3PHP?

Ah. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166540
Hi,
I dont know the id of my hdtv adapter but as far as i own it since the early days of my previous tab 10.1 (p7500) I am pretty sure it's the "old" one.
I can confirm the adapter is definetly charging my n8000 while connected to my tv behind the docking station (universal samsung), streaming .mkv from my ubuntu desktop / server machine and being controlley by emulated mouse with my ps3 gamepad (via sixaxxis).
Sure you won't win a speed challange with that configuration but the main point is it is charging. I guess about ~ 2..3 % / 0,5..1,0 h (never did a measurement ) but still charging. Thats pretty nice because sometimes when I come home from university and the battery is nearly empty (sometimes 2 days of usage with a single charge) I plug my note into the docking station, let it charge to 3 or 4 %, turn it on and start streaming. When I end the day and shut down the tv the note is at about ~10% and ready to get charged the whole night.

Looks good!
Update, just purchased apple Magic Trackpad looks like it works on my Tablet, No Dongle just Pin number input for connecting, so in theory I will be able to use it to control Note 10.1 whilst connected via HDMI adapter to TV, will confirm when it arrives this week.
Just received my EPL-3PHPBEG from Expansys. It was not the most expensive, but dirt cheap either. It works. It says it is for the Tab 10. The price on this seems to vary wildly with the cheaper ones (19-25$) all seeming to be out of stock, except today went back to Amazon and the Zeeestmm version now seems to be in stock and going for 29.00$
It works for my purpose - Powerpoint and other document projection. It does need to be powered, and the tab needs to be rebooted at least for the projector to recognize it. So it's working fine on my Tab Note 10.1.
What chaps me about Samsung, it the myriad of numbers and letters, all a bit different, but all seeming to be the same item. I thought it was bad with the phones and tabs, but it is beyond annoying with accessories.

Thanks for the reminder. Probably the image will look not better than before. However, it was not a difficult decision why i sent the Allshare Cast Hub back to amazon. For 60€ it's just to much for what it would have been for me. Ending all MultiWindow possibilities is probably the worst part. Well, with the HDMI cable i won't be able to connect USB anymore .. so everything has pros and cons. For what it offers, the wireless adapter was just too expensive and i was really annoyed that it was never remarked on ANY website i read that it ends multitasking features of the Note 10.1.
Hi,
I have tested Z1C with both Miracast dongle and MHL cable.
MHL cable is so called 5 PIN cable. The same one that works with Galaxy S2 and HTC One X.
MHL Cable works just fine.
I have also tested Miracast dongle (iPazzport). It connects slowly in Miracast mode. Screen and sound gets transferred to TV very slowly. It is basically unusable. The same dongle works just fine with Asus HD7 tablet.
DLNA mode is not usable either for video. At least not for HD content. It can be used for sound transfer. But it has minor problems also with sound only connections. I have tested with the same iPazzport HDMI dongle and WD HDTV Live box.
Please share your experience.

There is definitely some lag with MHL. I can only express my gut feeling. 50-100 ms, I guess. Is there any good way to measure it?
I am using this adapter:
www.ebay.com/itm/310855110310
I ordered http://www.amazon.com/Decrescent-Adapter-Samsung-Galaxy-Smartphones/dp/B00I5J6WVY
but it will take 2 weeks more to come.
I plan to order the PS3 controller too for gaming on screen, but not sure how it will be with the lag. also not sure if these cheap ps3 controllers will work or i need the original ps3 controller. for wireless of course, not planing to use wired controllers. maybe xbox wireless can work too. testing to come.
For measuring it, the best method is to start the stopwatch and record the TV and the phone's screen with some point and shoot camera, just stop the video later after 10 seconds for example and see the difference between the times.
at least thats what i read around the net ..
MHL lag.
First, tested using timer app in phone. Took pictures containing both mobile and plasma screen.
Out of 13 shots:
0.1 s delay - 9 times
0.2 s delay - 2 times
All the rest, 1 shot had 0.1-0.3 s delay (between TV frames), another had 0 - 0.2 s delay (between TV frames again).
Second test.Used http://vimeo.com/12505989 test video.
My laptop (connected through display port->HDMI) was 100% in sync. Z1C was 2-3 frames late (on 24 fps video).
I would say, it is about 120 ms delay. And it is huge for a cable connection IMHO.
Shame, Sony, shame!!!
My other phone Galaxy S Advance did much better job with DLNA sharing.
Which means that there must be a problem with WiFi (either HW or SW).
I am really disappointed. Way too many problems with a device that was meant to be almost a flagship. I wonder if all those problems also exist with Z1 older brother as well. Or did Sony cut some corners again...
Anyone who could explain why it's necessary to switch wifi off then on again when you activate media sharing (DLNA)?
Say you sit at home, your wifi is on ofc and you like to send a pic or a track to your AVR or TV, then why does it say "please turn on wifi" when you activate media sharing...

The infrared port on top of the LG G3 has been surprisingly useful with the accompanying TV remote app that came with my Sprint version of the G3. TVs in my house, no problem. Messing around with my friends TV/cable at their places, easy and quick! Turning off the projector in the middle of a boring office meeting. Surprisingly easy!!! Messing with the TVs at the bar, OMG hilarious.
Anyway, I was wondering if there were any other useful things to be done with the IR? I know they used to be used for file transfers back in the day, but even bluetooth is faster than IR now, much less the beam and wifi share these phones have.

Thanks for the recommend! Had every remote code I needed, and for some reason, I get WAY more range and flexibility with it. 7$ well spent
The IR blaster is incredibly weak compared to my old GS4. I have to point it directly at the TV and sometimes it still won't work unless you get up and stand just a few feet in front of the TV.
That said, the included QuickRemote is much better than the bloated app that Samsung includes to operate their IR (WatchOn).
Also, I rarely used that one so I doubt I will use this one much which is the reason I'm not worried that the IR blaster on the G3 is kind of awful strength wise.
