So I am having a weird issue with my MMS playing video messages that i receive. I finally figured out that to send a video i have to take the video in MMS format otherwise every file is much too large, resulting in me getting an error and not being able to attach the file.
I have been looking all over and everything I find says fix the APN. I have tried it multiple times and nothing ever changes.
Basically, my issue is any video sent to me is played as a still frame slideshow. I have no audio, no movement, nothing. I know there has to be a fix to this issue. Right now I'm on condemedsoul latest cm7 build. I was thinking about going back to a stock rom just to see if it fixes the issue, but man do I hate stock.
Does anyone have any suggestions? This is such an annoying issue, I just want to be able to watch the videos through texts that people send me.
Thanks for the help in advance!

I upgraded to 2.2 OTA yesterday. Everything has worked great except that out of all issues, the notification sound for my text message became a very low key pop sound. I attempted to change it various times and tried resetting my phone a couple of times to see if that changed anything and nothing.
The funny part is I can still change the sound notifications for my twitter, so it is specifically the text messaging that is causing a problem. I have never rooted and didn't flash that early froyo, just the legit one yesterday.
Can anyone help me?
Can someone please help! this is driving crazy

Ok all this is a cry for help from all users and people helping with the MIUI port...
It's also a cry for help TO all users and dev's who have worked on, altered, modded or otherwise, the original Chinese MIUI Rom for what ever phone system you did the work on.
Our Beloved EVO can not RECIEVE MMS messages.
the message starts to download and sometimes instantly says "error downloading file" (or attachment i forget) or it can go as long as 30 seconds and then error out.
The messages do get sent to the Sprint picture message site, or email if you sent it to an email instead of a ph. #
At first Sending did not work but bnice (and maybe others) got it working.
MMS SEND is confirmed working, but receiving does not.
Aside form a complete 100% decompile of the rom i do not think anything has not been covered but i am no android dev, god no, just a lover of the rom and bnice's great work.
bnice kind of took over where IncredibleDoes started and has done a knockout job of getting near everything to work, but this MMS receive thing has got everyone stumped.
apn's have been swapped, examined, cross examined.
apk files have been swapped, examined and cross examined
yet nothing seems to be working.
to myself and a few others it feels like an authentication issue. sort of like when something is trying to gain authentication to a site or process, it may bomb out right away, others it might take a bit. all the while it looks like its doing something but really isnt.
I have observed via searches, other phones, be it MIUI or other rom's, not able to receive MMS messages. even stock phones right from the vendor had issues and it was fixed with an OTA fix.
PLEASE--- if you had a phone or rom that could not receive MMS messages we need your help in finding out what is causing this issue on the MIUI ROM.
each of us love different rom's, dev's, them's and phones, but there is one rom, aside from CM6 (and derivatives of said rom) that has gained quite the following across many phone platforms, and i feel is undeniably unique in every way, even down to the multitouch icon moving & screen flipping, its unique.
Other phone dev's with Verizon (for example) have gotten MMS receive working, but Verizon uses a different method I understand, for MMS send/receive and that method does not work on the EVO/Sprint.
if you think you can help or want to help or have any ideas please ask here or contact bnice directly or via the MIUI thread HERE . grab the rom, flash her, and see what you can make of the issue.
logcat does not work out of the gates, and others have said alogcat does not work either, but i have not tried yet since 1.23 was released.
Thanks in advance everyone, lets get MIUI up to speed with the other fabulous roms available for our EVO!

*** Just to Clarify whats happening.
I reflashed 1.23 again this morning and sent myself a message from gmail and the MMS header does appear on the phone, with the download button available.
when you click download, the button either comes right back like it hickuped and didnt download, or if you hit it again, or again and again, the mms message may just sit there for seconds, to minutes saying "downloading"
but infact no error message popped up.
Thread moved to Q&A.
Ok... I believe this is the rom that came with the hero when it first came out and had the same mms problem where that download button would appear but would fail to download.. Sprint fixed it with ota (second link)

And I believe this is the first ota maintenance that had the mms pic mail fix

I got all this from here... So if you need to dig more go here...

Hope this helps... I think this might be a good thing to look into.. Cause the hero had same problem... Sending mms was perfectly fine... But receive was broken.. Text would come In... But wouldn't download.. Even clicking download button would result in download error...
Sprint fixed the problem.. This sounds exactly the same issue we are having... I am no dev so please just have a quick look... Thanks

Tried searching, but couldn't really find much info on this problem. NOt sure if many other people have it or not.
But it seems like any ROM I try (can't remember if it does it on stock or not, TBH), whenever one of my friends sends me a video message, it gets split into a single QCP audio file, and a still jpg image.
It does this with Handcent and GoSMS Pro; not sure about stock (can investigate more later when I'm off work).
Anybody else have/had this issue?
Thanks, appreciate it.
Never had this issue on any of the Skyraider roms, but started seeing this when I switched over to the gingerbread/Sense 3.0 roms. Typically I was getting 1 txt that was split into still shots, and 1 txt that had a video file that wouldn't play. I would save the video file to the sd card and then I ended up downloading VPlayer Pro from the market and was then able to watch the videos. Kind of a pain, but it was the only workaround that I could find. Again, never had that problem on SR 4.2 or any other Froyo rom.
What are you using for SMS app? I've only been on Froyo ROMs and it's always happened to me.
Wow, I did not see this thread until I submitted mine. I guess I need to refresh my page at work more often when Looking through these posts.
anyways, here's a link to my thread if this is the same or similar problem. I did some extensive testing going back stock then rooting and trying each ROM...nothing
I have been unable to receive mms messages on every JB rom with every modem and kernel out there while I AM NOT ON WIFI. Is there a fix for this I may have missed? They notify me but stay as "Downloading" permenantly?

I started with CM10 Nightly 0906 Nightly and I was in same boat. By clearing app data in settings I started receiving some of the pics. Still not able to get video. Will have some one try again tomm. Also I can't send video tells me "Message Size Limit Reached" "You can't add this video to your message"
So made some progress but not 100% yet! I have read all kinds of things. Also found this stuff but have not tried any of it yet and not sure any of it will help!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756464 Says for ICS so not sure.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622055 This one is for different carriers but maybe something useful. Got tired and going to bed so stopped reading!
Have a great night and hope we find a fix for it! Please keep us posted if you do!

I was havin mms issues on cm10 nightlies, until i read someone's suggestion to go into messaging settings, and toggle auto retrieve for mms. I unchecked it, and have been able to receive all my mms.. Hope this works for you guys..

Ya, I tried that to and it works for my Pics but still cant send or receive video. So who knows. I guess since a lot of people are not complaining it seems to be hit or miss!
Kind of like the photos in gallery. I here some complaints about old pics not showing up. But mine has been working perfect.
I am thinking about wiping everything and starting on the latest build just to see. But who knows!

On cm10 clean install with the first nightly onward, I've never been able to send or receive MMS until the following finally worked for me on sprint. YMMV:
Got mms working finally by deleting mms.db and telephony.db in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony in databases folder (delete the 4 files in that directory). . I also happened to clear messaging app and phone app data by force stop and then clear data thru settings / apps / (scroll to rightmost category to find all apps / scroll down to find phone and messaging apps). Reboot Also did the voice dialer app --> open apns voice command and edit sprint mms proxy to 68.28.31.7 and mms port 80. Save (settings->save) and reboot. Not sure if all these steps needed or just first one.
UPDATE: It works but gets stuck again and requires a repeat of the above. Not sure this is really a fix.
Greets,
I am a long time ARHD user, I would say of beginner to intermediate skill level. I can operate fastboot, adb competently and unpack a rom. I would try to post this question in the ICJ thread but I still don't have enough posts, woe is me
I was using ARHD, enjoyed using it for the most part. Unfortunately, Android 4.1.1 is annoyingly out of date compared to another device of mine, my Nexus 7. I made the jump to ICJ 3.7 on my HOX, I love it so far! Save for a few nagging issues, it's been a great rom.
I am unable to send photos using MMS. It just sits in the window "Sending"... indefinitely. My first and only hunch is that there's no process within the stock Messaging App that auto compresses photos. Am I missing something here? It seems like it's trying to send a 1.4MB+ file without recompressing, ARHD did this for me, but is that a Sense feature?
The other annoying issue I am having which I have seen in the ICJ thread reported by a number of other users, the Hangouts app when attempting to join a video hangout crashes when starting. I am willing to furnish someone with logs if told how.
Cheers!
Have you tried selecting your APN in the settings yet?

Hi, my APN was already selected, the information contained within for my provider (Telus) is correct. I can receive MMS msgs fine, same with SMS, my issue seems to be just on the mms end.
