auto rotate issue - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Kinda new to this stuff, but feel pretty comfortable with it. Do have a question though. I installed ics on my epic and i now have no auto rotation, is anyone else having this problem and if so how do you fix it?
On a side note, is there an overclock kernel for ics?

There is a Tips thread in General you should look through. It has all these answers. Yes there is OC kernels in the Development section and there is 3 places that have to be checked for the auto rotation. It is in the OP of that CM9 Tips thread.

Random Android Browser Lag No Matter Which Kernel Is Used?

I have been experiencing this weird problem with the Stock andriod browser ever since I flashed my first ROM. Every 4th or 5th time I open the browser, scrolling is extremely laggy. Laggy to the point of not being able to use. Once I close the web browser and open it back up, the problem is fixed, smooth scrolling once again. This repeats itself throughout the day at random.
I have tried multiple kernels and multiple ROMS all delivering the same problem. I dont know if this is a flaw in the actual browser itself or not, but it really sucks because I love the stock andriod browser.
Any ideas on what would be causing this?
ive noticed this too with the stock browser and i think its just something in the app itself i switched to dolphin browser mini and dont have that lag at all

Dolphin browser is horribly laggy for me. I dont understand why. Everyone says its lag-free for them..... it is at times... but the scrolling is EXTREMELY laggy for me at times.

You need the smooth scrolling mod that comes with the samurai kernel its just framework.jar but usually specific to TW and AOSP ROMS.

hmmm im not entirely sure what could be causing that unless there is something running in the background that is slowing your phone down...are you experiencing lag while scrolling thru anything else like apps or the market?

If i decided to switch to cm9, is it considered an "everday use" ROM yet... or still plenty of bugs to be worked out? Im not picky about the small things, as long as my web browser and apps work! with good scrolling LOL, I cant stand laggy scrolling! it makes my phone feel cheap.
its kind of a toss up yes there are still quite a few bugs to work out but it is stable enough to use as a daily there are just some minor things that dont work...for me its fun to tinker with and learn but i need something more stable and reliable at the moment so im still using CM7 as my daily

Possibly the same Problem?
:cyclops: Hello,
I think I may have the same problem, and was curious if the kernal mentioned fixed it for your issue?
My Issue...
After an extended amount of time using the browser, pages will start to "skip" or "lag" when scrolling. For example, I will place my finger on the screen to scroll a google results page, and without removing my finger I will scroll up or down (doesn't matter which), and during the scrolling I will notice the screen lag. Lag, as in the screen appears to freeze briefly, and then pick up where my finger is, giving the appearance of "lag", "skipping", or "jumping".
I think the important key here is that my finger is not removed from the screen. The problem does not occur when I flick the screen to scroll.
Noticing that the problem happened after an extended amount of time I tested clearing the cache, and force closing the browser. And that does indeed fix the problem, at-least for the time being until it begins to do it again.
Thanks for any help you guys can give, or directions you can lead me in to fix this problem.

Possible cause and temp solution to Notification Bug - Could use a little help tho

Okay, so as we all know, there is still a semi-persistent bug with the Notifications sound+vib on the FCxx builds. Gladly, its working better than it used to, but it does go out sometime, and I have been resorting to rebooting the phone to get it back up.
Clearly, thats not a good solution. So after I started paying attention to what was causing it, I've been working harder at finding the root cause and solution to this problem.
Here is my list (from my experiences) of what has been causing the notifications to stop:
1) Putting the phone into silent/vibrate mode and then back to sound
2) Touching the screen while the phone is unlocked while simultaneously receiving a text (thus causing it to silence the notification)
My solutions:
1) Reboot (this sucks tho)
2) Go into the Phones task manager, clear ram, then call yourself.
I've noticed that if you call yourself, and let it ring AND vibrate, it brings the notifications back. For some reason, it doesn't work 100% of the time for me, but it does work like 95%, which is a good start to figuring this out.
Any help and tests from you guys would be most appreciated. Maybe we can help the devs in finding the cause of this bug so they can stomp the **** out of it. Thanks!
My notifications always seemed to stop working after making or receiving a phone call. Not sure about the other causes. I'm on FC 18 now with no issues so far.

It's a bug for touchwiz based ics roms. Anything aosp based like cm9, aokp, and code name won't have the problem. It's odd for them to not fix this bug throughout their many leaks.

I can testify that the issue is/was in AOSP roms. Had it on AOKP and Codename... Havent seen it yet on Codename nightly however.

There's something strange about the notification sound bug..after a phone call sounds are gone, clearing the ram brings them back.. The weirder part is if I receive a text during a call I can hear the notification during a call..I'm not a Dev so I'm clueless but maybe that info can point someone in the right direction

[Q] Darkside.Evolution.3.v7 notification pulldown lag?

hi. just joined the forums after being a lurker for a long time. i also do not have the permissions required to post in the development thread for this rom so i thought i'd give it a shot here. sorry if this is not allowed
i was running darkside evolution 3 v7 on venom 03 #5 kernel for the past few days and was experiencing some noticeable lag when pulling down the notifications window. i installed following directions to the dot.
governor was default (ondemand) and nothing was tweaked. right now i am back on stock unrooted rom and am not experiencing any such lag (to see if this lag existed in the first place)
i was wondering if my phone is not jiving well with this rom/kernel or if this is something others are experiencing. thanks for any help/feedback!
I'm running everything the same as you but using the badass governor, I'm not experiencing any lag on the notification pull down. I did experience this in the past with TDJ's Tmo leak version of the darkside evo rom.
I did as well, but it went away eventually.

Is it time for JellyBean?

I have been using various TW based ICS Roms for sometime. Darkside, Infamous, etc. I have been so excited to use Jelly Bean and try out project "Butter" I notice there is an official stable release for Cynogen mod 10. Is it time to flash? I get anxiuos about it because I delt with an old HTC HD2 for a year and there were lots of "work arounds" and such. It became rather annoying. So I really like BLN notifications, and having a camera that "Just Works" and decent battery life etc. Are these things I am going to sacrifice. And also, if I wait until there is an official release of JellyBean for our device over the next couple of months would we see more stable builds shortly thereafter? Would it be worth waiting another month or two? or is time for JellyBean? Just curious what folks thoughts are about this? Who is using what? How it works etc? I am really looking for a DD something I can be happy with awhile. I can always just do a Nandroid and hope for the best I guess lol. Thanks for any input!

I would definitely try a jb rom I was hesitant at first, but now I wouldn't go back. On the liquid rom and it runs great.
I believe the camera will depend on what gapps you flash, I'm using the justun bean gapps. Bln works fine and battery life is good ( I'm using the kko kernel)

Definitely try CM10!!
You will fall in love.
I know exactly what you are saying about being hesitant because you want something that just works, without a bunch of additional issues to fix.
I always seem to find problems with other other roms that push me into looking for something else, NOT HERE!
CM10 is just so polished, It even fixes things that didn't work in any TW rom for me such as being able to send / receive MMS while connected to wifi.
It even has BLN built in and activated from the start.
I must say that CM10 + T989 = THE BEST phone experience I have EVER had with any phone.
I was getting so sick of going through so many wrongs, always to end up having to settle with some negative.
Everything just works with CM10 on our phone, and works well at that.
I finally dove in with the nightly CM10 builds about 2 months ago and now the official CM10 release.
Not a single lock up, force close, reboot, glitch or problem here in the last 2 months.
Battery life is really good, phone is smooth and fast, and most importantly it's super functional.
Everything works so much better for me than with any of the TW roms.
I love how CM10 is minimalistic and fast, yet has so many functional improvements and additions.
In my opinion it is hands down the best rom for our phone.
I think the fact that there is an entire team of developers working on CM is what makes it so good, it's not just dependent on one person like most roms.
Flash CM10... fall in love with your phone all over again!!
And after you flash CM10, flash this GAPPS http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
I haven't had any problems whatsoever.
Well thanks for all the input. Especially in regards Cyanogen Mod 10. I may try that very soon. I'm excited about Jelly Bean! May be time to make the switch...

With how easy it is to do a backup/restore of phone these days, I find it easiest just to backup what I have and dive in to a new rom because the worst case is that you have to spend 5 minutes for it to restore if you don't like the new rom. Good luck! Hope you enjoy it!

So I did it ! ! ! ! I like it so far. The aesthetics are very nice and I did miss the customization of Cyanogenmod. The only thing I notice right off is the BLN notification is craaazy. Doesn't really work. I have adjusted the setting to "always on" and other things. I even downloaded the BLN notification app. the settings also do not stick, it blinks even though I have it set to always on. Any thought on this?

Thats a good idea. I just read in the Cyanogem Mod Stable notes that the kernel was tied into the ROM very tightly especially with project butter. Whatever that means. So maybe I will try another kernel. Do you use an app or just the system settings?

I have not had any issues with the gallery, camera, or video recorder whatsoever. In fact, I took over 200 photos and 10 videos at a concert this weekend. I haven't seen any issues with it in the CM10 thread either, so I know it's not a common CM10 problem. Are you running the stock CM10 camera, or have you tried flashing the 4.2 camera? I know the 4.2 camera has some issues, thus why it's not stock on CM10 yet. I would say, try clearing your camera / gallery cache. If that doesn't work, you may have a bad flash. Make sure you wipe data / reset, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache, flash the rom, flash gapps, clear cache / dalvik again, fix permissions, then boot into CM10. Never had a problem doing it this way. I'm using 2.2.2 (i think) TWRP touch recovery. As far as the outgoing call issue, I have not had that issue either. Occasionally someone can't here me when they call me, or I can't hear them, but not very often. I had this issue on stock and every rom though.I think it's just a Tmobile issue. I'd say try some different radios. UVLE1 has been good to a lot of people.

Harder to swipe windows in Jelly Bean?

I tried searching for others with the same problem but couldn't find anything. Does anyone else seem to find that you have to swipe farther along the screen to get to the next screen? for example I need to swipe about 1/2 the screen length to get to the next page, where before I could just do a quick flick to go to the next page. I don't know if I'm missing a setting or something, but it's kind of annoying.
I think you can just change your sensitivity on your screen, btw what ROM and what version of it are you running?

Thats why drunk asked "what ROM and what version of it are you running?". You wouldn't call Auto Zone and ask how to change a fuse without telling them what kind of car you were driving would you? The more info someone gives, the easier it is to help with the issue at hand.

I never noticed the problem in gingerbread. I haven't tried any other JB roms. This is my first.
I just came from that rom to jellyverse so I know the layout of the rom and I don't believe there is an option to adjust touch sensitivity. If I'm wrong someone correct me but I don't think that rom has the option to do so. You just gotta get used to it, it's not that big of an issue that the rom is unbearable (at least it wasn't for me). There have been issues in other rooms where I simply couldn't stand the rom because of a single issue but that wasn't a huge issue for me...like I said just gotta get used to it
