I've asked this before but got no real response.
Any of you using Sense 3.0+ based ROMS also using Google Voice? If so, are you able to dial out from Google Voice if you're trying to contact someone who left you a message or text? I always get "Network Busy" but if I direct dial the number, it works fine. Seems that the +1 appended to the numbers causes the problem. I can replicate this issue in every Sense 3+ ROM I have tried. It works fine in Sense 2 ROMS with a 3 patch to give it some graphical elements from higher Sense versions.
Anyone else experience this? Is there a known fix/workaround for this? Is there at the very least an explanation for why this happens? Am i the only one who uses Voice?
Get rid of the +... I would assume that is the work around
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
That's just it, I'm not adding the + 1, it just happens automatically, where in lower versions of Sense, this behavior doesn't occur. I'm not sure where the plus is coming from, unless it is innate with newer versions of Sense.

The plus is coming from your facebook contacts. I had the same issue, and there really was no way for me to fix it. One of the reasons I went back to Sense 2.1.

This is caused by the country code based on the runnymede rom. And if you look in your original post, there was an answer to your question. Right now that's the only answer that works without any issues.

UPDATE: I've found a fix for this issue - AWESOME!
Just go to the Android Market and install the SMS Time Fix app by Matt Precious.
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-mattprecious-smsfix-pAFq.aspx
It works perfectly, and updates the time stamp on all messages to relfect PHONE time and not network time. HINT: Make sure the "Last Resort" option is checked in the settings and offset is set to zero. This little app now makes the Evo Messages app usable. Finally...
Hope this is helpful info
So, I've been reading and experiencing several issues with SMS timestamps on the Evo 4G.
It seems there are three distinct issues with SMS timestamps on the the Evo and I believe they all have the same root cause.
Issue 1: When roaming texts are received with the wrong time stamp, offset by several hours (typically 4 or 5 hours off). This causes them to not be threaded in the conversation correctly. Very annoying.
Issue 2: When receiving SMS messages on any network (Sprint or Roaming), the time stamp is off by an hour. The result is the same as Issue 1, but a less extreme example.
Issue 3: When texting back and forth in quick succession, SMS messages are not logged in the order in which they are received, and received text messages ALWAYS appear before sent text messages if they are sent during the same minute, regardless of which one was actually sent first. This is also very annoying.
I believe the root cause is that the native Sense UI messaging app is using the timestamp of the tower of each SMS rather than using the time stored on the phone. To prove this, if you use Handcent and set it to use "phone time" and ignore the tower time, it works perfectly. The thing is that I don't want to use Handcent and I want to use the native app. Is there a setting that can be tweaked to fix this? Has anyone talked to HTC or Sprint about the issue and is a fix in the works?
For such a major problem, I am surprised more people haven't come forward. It's a pretty significant bug...
Thanks,
Matt_TX.

I agree and its getting really annoying since it causes me to miss texts.
NM, too easy
Has anyone talked to Sprint or HTC about it? I am sure there HAS to be a fix in the works. The good news is that the native Froyo messaging app does not do this (as far as I can tell). I used a Nexus One on T-mobile and it doesn't occur. It appears to be using the phone's timestamp, as it should...
As long as HTC don't apply their "logic" (or lack thereof) over Froyo, it should be fixed soon.
I also can't believe that Sense UI stops the user from having more than one Exchange account. Android 2.1 (Eclair) does this by default. Why on earth would they remove it?
Anyway, back on topic... Please please post with your thoughts and discoveries around the SMS timestamp issue.
Thanks!
How is this related to development?

I'm not sure what you mean by "NM, too easy". Can you explain or provide any insight. Please help if you can. For those of us with this issue, it's REALLY annoying. I apologize if the question is dumb and there is an easy fix.
I realize that some of you may not feel that it is related to development, but I disagree. For those geniuses out there that make ROM's, maybe there is some way to fix this with a setting or minor change in the Sense UI messaging app...
Additionally, there is no need to berate someone that's genuinely asking for help. It's obvious that this forum gets the most traffic, and it's obvious that the smartest "Evo User" minds are located here. I don't think there is any harm in reaching out for help, isn't that the purpose behind these forums
The samething was happening to me last night.

Agreed. If its not happening with Handcent nor the AOSP apk, then its a direct HTC issue.
General Discussion. Also, probably not really that urgent.
./agree on all poins with OP.
I posted in Q&A about this same issues, with no replies 8(.
Anyway, I thought it was related to the modified prl that I installed. However it would do it even when I was on the stock prl.
Long story short, I called sprint and said I was having the issue. They said they were going to refresh something on their side, to wait 20 mins then power cycle the phone.
Did that and to my surprise it worked! Then yesterday I re-flashed a custom rom and the sms timestaps went all wonky. /sigh
suck it up and use handcent or chomp, they are overall better apps, just not as nice of a UI.
this has been a problem for quite some time. I've looked everywhere for a solution. This was a problem on winmo phones as well.
I switched to handcent and never looked back. Once you get it all customized, it's awesome.

look at this guy.
handcent didn't work on my froyo rom, not sure about chomp, didn't try it.
at work i always have this problem, texts are recieved 5 hours into the future, whereas the ones i send are the correct time. occasionally ones they send are the correct time so i have to scroll up and down and it is very annoying.
not a fan of handcents pop up notifications, i guess i could turn em off.
guess i'll just 'suck it up'

yup, had the same problem on my old HTC Diamond with Sense/TF3d on it.
Updated First Post...
Ever since I ran stock, I've had issues with texting on GV. Basically, I'll be in an area where I have full service/3g, and have trouble sending and receiving messages. I won't know about missed texts until i go to send one and it hasnt gone through for 10 mins. I've gone through SkyRaider 3.5, MIUI, and Incredibly Re-Engineered along with stock since I got the phone back in November, but the issue persists. My GV settings aren't the problem, I've checked.
Anyone else had this issue and been able to remedy it?
I use GV for texting since I dont want to pay for a texting plan. I have not seen anything like this but I do not text that much. I am running CM7 latest build.
Thanks,
SoBBie
have you tried Force Stop, Clear Data and then setting it up again?
reinstall?
does the same happen when you use Voice on a desktop (www.google.com/voice) ?
in my experience, GV is still a little buggy. good enough for daily use, but there are issues. best bet is to go to the google help forums and post your problem there.

Yes, I've tried that multiple times. A quick search turned up no posts regarding similar problems. I guess I'll try posting on my own.
Another thing you could try is setting up another Google Account to see if its possibly just your account that isn't working right.

I agree. I use GV all the time, granted there are sometimes I have some service issues, but overall it is great. I actually use it for my main business phone number and have never had any issue because of it. I bet something is screwy on Googles end of things.
This happens about many times a day when I choose a contact from my past messages it opens a totally different contact that may or may not have been visible in the list. Also occasionally when i am typing it double types part of the word so if I type "really" it might be "reareally". Anyone else get this?
Which ROM? Have you tried using an alternative app?
I am using stock 2.3.3. I just downloaded handcent and it seems to work good so far. Its no big deal , just curious.
I had that issues with the stock ROM as well. I use Handcent as well and don't have that issue.
That said, it appears to be an issue on the Thunderbold too. Apparently Verizon and HTC are aware about it, according to what my VZW rep has told me.
Thanks for the infomation.
that is a problem with android, not HTC. Google has acknowledged the problem but there has not yet been a fix released.
Nope, doesn't seem like it happens on AOSP Android. My cousin has the sensation and the double word thing happens to me and him. We just use handcent.
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA Premium App
I can't say that I ever had that issue with AOSP. I used Handcent most of the time then anyway because I preferred the interface to AOSP.
Never had this issue on cm7. I get weird errors too. For instance, if I type in landscape and send it then go portrait the last word I typed is shown. Sometimes after I reply to a message the message I sent shows as new. Unacceptable.

It is definitely a bug that has plagued android for a long time. Here is a post where you can read about the different bugs that Android SMS has. Once again, this is not specific to HTC devices. I used to experience this same problem on my fascinate.

yeah i get that bug where you see a text you recently sent as a reply and the threat still has an unread.
Im rooted and running rom Going-green lighting 10-12-11 and sometimes i will quit receiving texts from the people im talking to, even when im in the middle of a conversation with them ill quit receiveing texts. Ive updated PRL and PROFILE but nothing helps. Anyone know why its doing this and how to fix it?

Did you install the rom fresh? Make sure there are no network issues in your area.
I had the same issue. I've got a few questions first.
1. Are you using Google Voice?
2. If yes, is your Sprint number integrated with Google Voice?
3. What kernel are you using?
4. What baseband radio version are you using?
5. What hboot version are you using?

It's an issue with Google Voice. Not Gingerbread. There are a countless number of people, myself included, that have had this issue. SMS issues like this are only part of the problem as well. Some people don't receive calls. Some cant make calls. Some can't receive voicemail. Some receive other peoples' voicemail. I used to use Google Voice all the time. But this last iteration of it they really screwed everything up.

When you open the Google Voice app for the first time you have to go through a setup process. There are two ways to go through this process. One is to integrate your Sprint # with Google Voice (you automatically enter this mode when you press "next" on the first setup screen) and the other is to use just the voicemail portion without integration (this is accomplished by pressing "skip" on the first screen of the Google Voice setup screen.
I accidentally integrated my Sprint number with Google Voice when I setup the app. This was a HUGE mistake as I lost all ability to receive text messages on my phone due to Google's crappy development of sms handling of Google Voice. I spent the next 2 months scouring xda, the internet, Google forum support, Sprint forum support, Sprint tech support, and every possible resource you can think of for a solution. I found an endless number of people that were having the same, and in some case worse, problem than I. But I never found a single shred of helpful information. So I decided to just take my phone into Sprint and pray they say it's a hardware issue and give me a new phone. But my last ditch effort proved to completely fix my problem and I now receive text messages just like I used to before I installed Google Voice. So here is what worked for me.
Details: You are basically going to return your phone to bone stock as if you had just purchased the phone. So the process I explain is going to unroot and return you to stock ROM, turn S-on, and revert your Hboot back to stock. It is also going to remove your Google Voice account (trust me, this is a good thing) So please make sure you do a backup of all your data, app preferences, and apps if you wish, so that you do not lose anything.
1. Log into your Google Voice account online. (from a computer or your phone's browser)
2. In the top right of the page you will see a little icon that looks like a cog (a gear). Click that icon and select "Voice Settings."
3. Looking back at the main part of the page you'll see the details for your Google Voice/Sprint phone number. Click the "Disable" or "Deactivate" button to go through the deactivation process required to remove your Sprint number from Google Voice.
4. Go back to your phone and FULLY logout of the Google Voice app. Once you've logged out uninstall the app.
5. Go to this link and follow the rest of the step by step instructions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18399552&postcount=2
6. If your phone STILL does not receive SMS messages then you're at least already unrooted and can just stop by a Sprint store and have them see if it is a hardware issue. For me, unrooting somehow fixed my issue.
Once you complete those steps, if your messaging is working properly again, you can then reroot your phone and go on about your business as usual. The whole process of unrooting and rerooting my phone to fix the problem took an entire 15-20 minutes to do. Most of that time was spent verifying that things were working properly. Unfortunately I cannot tell you what exactly what the problem was. All I know is that when I unrooted to stock my phone suddenly worked again. So I decided to give Sprint the finger, reroot my phone, and get flash happy like always. I suggest NOT using Google Voice at all. At least not until they fix all of their horrendous issues with GV's sms messaging ability.
Not sure where to put this, so I apologize if I'm in the wrong area here.
I can't find anything regarding this issue on XDA. I feel like it has probably been addressed, but where, I don't know.
Since to Google Voice update, myself and others are not able to make outgoing calls using GV. This seems unique to HTC devices, M8, M9, 10. Verizon users get a "Network busy message" when dialing out. Sprint users, like myself, are getting "your number can not be completed as dialed".
Some Verizon users have been able to fix the issue by enabling or disabling advanced calling. As Sprint users, we do not have this option. Another Verizon user (M8 NuSense) was able to fix the issue by clearing data in the phone app.
This issue seems to be that with the update, GV is appending +1 to the outgoing call. When rolling back to the previous version, all is well again. This isn't a ROM specific issue, but I'm on Leedroids latest.
Google Voice help forums have been zero help to us. Someone suggested the downgrade and our issue was marked as solved. Ha, far from.
Is anyone here using the upgraded GV app? Is this a known issue? I don't suppose there is a current fix, so if nothing else, I am hoping to spread awareness. But like I said, I'm sure it's been addressed, I just can not find it. Maybe someone can just point me to the correct thread?
Thanks guys.

I haven't personally tried or used this feature but if you can fix it by rolling back then why not do just that?
There may be an edit that can be made for the newer version to reflect the older version but I'm assuming you would be better reverting back to the old version for an easier solution.
Stop updates from going automatically. I do this anyway, nothing ceases to function.
Sorry this doesn't fix the actual issue but it's a sold workaround unless there's a reason for not wanting to revert back?

Rolling back is my current workaround, and I've disabled updates. As one who despises Hangouts, and greatly values GV, when the update dropped I was thrilled. The revamped UI is Also-ish and blows Hangouts UI out of the water. I'd much prefer to send SMS via the new GV app vs Hangouts. GV is my primary number and having to rely on Hangouts to send GV SMS hasn't been reliable. Half the time it won't notify my of new messages unless I completely back out of the app. I find myself double checking my phone often to make sure I've closed out the Hangouts.
I would imagine many users here are well aware and make use of the benefits of GV, so more than anything I wanted to bring attention to the issue, not so much expecting to find an answer. Also curious to see if anyone has NOT run into the issue.

Haha Honestly, no. Not used to someone trying to be so helpful.
I found the issue to be that the ROM I was on, while it supported Sprint, carrier specific settings have not been implemented. I found this out while searching how to do a profile update. To do so, I had to flash a carrier specific ROM. Once I did that, GV worked, as well as profile update. Looks like the next update to Leedroid is slated to have these options.
Keeping my eye on that linked thread, though. I themed GV would be sweet. Thanx buddy.
