I really don't understand how there are so few comments on this thread...
I believe that this device is what xperia play owners are waiting for....
For me, one handicap of the xperia play is the lack of hdmi connection... With this, my xperia play becomes complete and gain two more years of lifetime.
How is the state of art of this xbounds?
Is there any release date?
It's going to be sold to general public?
Where to find it?
I want to spend my money now...
My xperia play would be gratefull...

seems like a gadget for the extremely lazy
and how long before u lose one of them?

Why would you lose it lol and for the extremely lazy!? What are you even talking about the best thing about the xbound is no cords and no lag I can not washout till is available
Sent from my R800a using XDA App

I really don't understand your point.
First, put one thing in your mind... Things are not to lose. Specially those you buy. If you are lazy enought, and if you try you can lose everything, like your xperia play.
Second, are we talking about the same thing? The gadget is not for extremely lazy. The gadget is for those who turn their xperia play to a pocket multimedia center.
I carry my xperia play to every where, to play games, listen music, see movies, navigate on web...
Wouldn't be wonderful to be on vacantions and connect xperia play to the hotel tv and see a movie that you kept on the xperia play?!
I think yes.

haha oops i got directed to the xbound which is like dog tags, that u put ur xperia play by and it just changes the settings, and u can have several of these dog tags eg one for work which turns up the sound, one for home that turns on wifi etc,and one by ur bed which turns the alarm on and puts phone in silent mode etc etc
sorry lol

Still those can be very useful if your a runner or a snowboarder or basically any sport because if you can keep it in ure pocket and just use those tags then you lower the chamce of breaking a very expensive phone those tags dont work on the play as far as I know but when they come out they better come in a pack of 10 for under 40 bucks or its a waste of money

If there was a perfect product to hook up a play to a tv i would be excited.
I wont get excited till i have one though. Too much vaporware around these days

Hi All,
I receveid this information from Dreamchip, company responsible for the development of XBounds.
It seems that the dream of connecting XPeria Play to TV could be near...
"
Dear Joao,
sorry for the slow reply. xBounds is not available for end-users yet, as it is not
an app that can easily be installed on the phone.
We are talking to numerous cell phone makers and are confident that xBounds will
become available by Q3 this year.
We will let you know as soon the technology is available

They require NFC, which the PLAY does not have. It's hardware and cannot be implemented.

Not even close. Try putting a Wi-Fi router in a coin size shell.

The xBound hdmi does not use NFC why would it. I think people are getting 2 different products confused.
From the sound of their reply though I don't think we will see the hdmi accessory on the Xplay .

Any practical reason to hdmi out to tv?

I just got to thinking about this. I mean besides the cool factor is there any other real reason to output your phones screen to your tv? If you have the adapter and whole hdmi out setup what do you use it for? I guess it would be neat for me for about 10min on my 51" but I can't see any real use.
I've paired mine with ps3 controller and use it to emulate ps1,genisis,snes,nes..and then hook up to TV..now o got a sweet time killer...

Ok I stand corrected, that does sound cool. I would do that. I've got a 360 not a ps3 though. I'll have to do some googleing see if that's possible.

I thought about the whole movie thing. But with all the streaming media devices people probably already have I still don't get it. Maybe I'm assuming to much but any 360 or ps3 can stream just about anything you'd want imo. Pictures I'll never understand, I don't need to see a picture on an lcd. Presentations I can see that for the business guys who need it. Playing games, aren't you still tethered to a cord?

I have not done it with this phone since I have yet to buy the cable, but with my Vibrant's TV out all the time, its easier to put the movies on the Phone instead of the game console since im connected to it more often and using the Laptop means if my wife wants to use the laptop she cant without interrupting the movie. (She could ealk the 8 FT to the desktop.. but thats niether here nor there ) As far as games, even though your tethered atleast with the vibrant, it wasnt that bad.. kinda makes the device the console and controller in one and with all of these newer games coming out its pretty nice on my 46". just my 10 cents
Here is the best reason. the NBA league pass for mobile is only $40. I plug my phone to my TV and bam! No need to pay the $160.

I would like to know this as well. I've read elsewhere that they block it from HDMI out, but would like to know if anyone has any experience with this and also if there is some way around it with a rooted device. (ie freezing some background app like you can do with the one they use to block free tethering).

Could this possbly turn the touchpads into real joysticks?

Look what i just found in a adversitment! This two little thumbsticks, made for touchscreen, only 7€ expensive, 15 mm diameter... Maybe if we put one on the left and another one on the right touchpad we have real analog sticks? Do you think it will work?
There's actualy a few different sticks like that for iOS, no idea if they would work on the Play's touchpad's though
They should work; capacitive stylii(sp?) work with the Xperia PLAY's touch-pads.
Depends on the game really.
Those analogs probably just have 4 stylus type things on the 4 directions,
So if its a game you need to slide from the middle of the touchpad to control, it wont work very well, but if its a game where you use the touchpads like dpads, then it should work nicely.
nice find, i would be interested too! that would really complete the play's feel...now if all game dev's just knew how to properly work those touch pads (ie dead space) then all things in the world would be good
I'm not sure it'll work because these things usually depend on the glass to hold on the device.
Our touchpads are very soft and matte, I don't think a suction stick will hold on to it.
Could u please tell me the name of the company or the magazine, or just the seller pls? i am from germany (guess u too ) and i wanna try them. Thx in advance

HTC Media Link HD

Who's getting one?
I think it looks awesome, but a little expensive so I had some doubts if I should by it or not.
But now my carrier is providing me one for free because of delayed delivery on my HOX.
Any of you guys getting one?
Will we be able to use it with other phones/tablets?
I really want to use it with my gtab 10.1, so it would be awesome if someone could figure out, maybe porting the app (if its and app) from HOX to other devises.

Yes Im getting one but only because it came free with my One X order. In answer to your questions yes it can be used with other devices.
Ive got the standard media link adapter as well and that works perfectly on my Moto Xoom. If your concerned about the price there are cheaper alternatives that do the exact same thing. Just have a browse on Amazon for DLNA receivers.

The Media Link for the One series is different than the previous HTC Media Links (basically DLNA media players), in that it can mirror what you see on the phone's screen. So it's more like a "smart" wireless HDMI connection, since once you start media playback, it switches to media streaming mode like the old Links, and the phone can be used to do other things without interrupting the video on the TV.
I like the idea of playing a game through this, but there is noticable latency, so no Shadowgun, but Angry Birds would probably work well.

Does anybody know exact differences between DLNA and HTC media link technology?
I have a DLNA TV (LG 47LW575S), it is connected to my wireless router. I wonder, if it is possible to connect HOX without a "media link"...
Also, I don't want to have 2 wireless networks in my house.
I'll try to stream media as soon as receive my HOX (just ordered) and post a result here.

I have been using my one x to stream to the ps3. there are various dlna server apps in the market, I personally use BubbleUPnP on my one x. regarding the battery life, well if the screen is off I generally find the battery doesn't go down too quick, even while streaming or on a long call. the display is what seems too suck battery ie: games or browsing the web. anyway id save your money unless you really want to use all your apps on a large display/tv. or buy a mhl to hdmi cable online for a tenner does the same job as the medialink, though wired.

ive just ordered one and the speaker dock as well.
does anyone know if this is actually dnla so other devices would work (such as my pc and my archos 101 tablet), also is there a built in battery in the media link as the specs say there is a "charge cable" - if there is whats the battery life like on that. i hope there is as this would be ideal on my already crowded outlets by my main tv with xbox, wii, bluray, tv, tivo reciver, surround system, cable modem and finally the router.
thanks guys
my understanding was the media link only worked with Sense 4, so not sure its compatible with all devices. It is compatible with all TVs/monitors that have a HDMI port. THe Media Link comes with a built in rechargeable battery which is charged the same way as your phone with a micro usb cable.

I couldnt agree more. People are reluctant to have you messing with the plugs on their television and peripherals. If you could simply plug into hdmi and watch a movie or two on battery it would be truly portable and much less intrusive if you were to take it to a friends or relatives house.

By the looks of it it seems the Media Link HD itself needs plugging into a power supply. All the videos I've seen of it on YouTube in operation show two cables coming out of it (the HDMI cable and presumably the power cable?). Plus when you look on the Mobile Fun site, it shows two ports on it...a HDMI port and a Micro USB port:

About Effing time Samsung gets this released. And I'm guessing it's gonna be another 3 months before they release the wireless charger, Dock/Cable to simultaneously use MHL and other OTG and the UK release of the MHL adapter tip, I mean massive Firmware delays is typical and expected from Samsung but just don't get why they delaying accessories.
I've been reading that it doesn't generate 1080p even though it says it does...it only outputs in 720p...I heard its very laggy at times...and people were quite disappointed with it...sorry to rain on your parade...

Demonstration
Works in 1080p
Its works in Full HD contrary to reports on here. It does have a noticable delay of about 1 second so not sure if it will be useful for gaming, but for internet browing, movie watching or productivity use it could be ideal.
I didn't order from mobilefun because I found a much cheaper price than them.

Sent from my GT-I9300
To clarify for others. The dongle does need a power supply. It comes with one. It also includes an HDMI cable. You can have mutliple dongles on TVs around the house and the phone lets you choose which one you connect to. However, at this time, you cannot label the dongles with a nice name like "Living Room" and have to use the pre-determined name with numbers instead.
There is some lag depending on the quality of the connection with the phone. You would not want to play FPS with this. I would say the lag was around 100-150ms. Fast panning/moving can result in some visible compression artifacts. Its behaviour seems identical to the HTC Media Link technology. One does not appear better than the other here.
The dongle DOES support 1080p, but the S3 does NOT. This means you will not see anything above 720p. The dongle acts as a mirror of the 720 line phone display EXCEPT when you are playing a video. For video, the phone displays a very dim "Allshare" logo on a black background. You can bring up a video slider to rewind/fast-forward etc but the video itself is only displayed on the TV. Despite having the separate video feed, it is still locked to 720. HTC originally had the idea that you could surf on the phone, check emails while playing a video, but this never actually worked. Samsung haven't even tried to do this...pressing the home button cuts the video feed and returns to mirroring.
My concern is if you play a 90 minute movie like this, will there be screen burn due to the permanent but very dim "Allshare" logo displayed on the screen. There is no way to switch this display off when playing a video. Perhaps because its so dim it doesn't matter, but it seems odd to me.
