I am using a Hong Kong version ARC, bootloader unlocked, flashed customized rom based on stock firmware, and of course rooted. I am going to send to Sony as the gps and wifi got some problems.
Here is my step:
1. Flash original Hong Kong firmware (I don't have it......can anyone give it to me?)
2. Re-lock bootloader
Is the above correct? I know unlocking bootloader should void the warranty, but just have a try to see whether Sony will check my phone or not
I readed that is possible to relock bootloader if you unlocked it by sonyericsson official method for free phones.
For "unlock allowed: NO" I don't know how you can do this, but... Someone said that if you unlocked your bootloader with omnius, you can relock your bootloader recovering the autobackup image that the program generate.
Perhaps you can relock the bootloader first and then do a repair via PC Companion to return to stock HKG firmware.
DRM checking
I think Sony will know your phone status when they check the DRM.
Usually IF you unlocked your phone bootloader by using Sony Method, the DRM also removed.
I followed the step in this website:
http://androidflip.com/re-lock-boot-loader-xperia-arc-step-step-guide/
and my phone can't be turned on now......after pressing the power button, the phone vibrated once(just like usual) and then nothing happened. No button backlight, no screen backlight.........
I'm extremely sorry if its offtopic but I couldn't post it in the development section.
How can we know if the device is rooted or not ?

If you used that method and everything went fine, then you're rooted. You should also have SuperUser and Busybox now installed.
Finally and successfully returned my phone to stock status, send to Sony, and get it back after repairing
My method is:
1. reLock boatloader (After doing this you can update it via UpdateService immediately, but as my ROM is an customized 0.62 ROM, UpdateService said I already have the newest software and done nothing)
2. Flash an older version stock ROM (in my case, I flashed 2.3.3 HK version)
3. Use UpdateService again and let it update your ARC to the newest firmware
4. Use root checker and bootloader check method to ensure everything is fine
5. Bring your receipt along with ARC and go to Sony repairing centre
Information not related to the thread
However, I took my ARC to repairing because of the GPS inaccuracy, Wifi disconnection and battery drain. I get it back today and they said they upgrade the software and everything is fine now - I really doubt about this as I already flashed a lot of different ROM (including stock) before but the problems can't be solved. I check the phone information and the firmware is just the normal 0.62 HK stock, no different......
hi. I bought ARC S LT18i from hong kong . it is using android 2.3.4 build number 4.0.2.A.0.62. I want to update to ICS .
(it is unlock without carier)
as I see on www.sonymobile.com
Latest available software: 4.1.B.0.587
Release date: 2012-08-16
but PC companion and update service says that I have lastest software.
when I try to software repair with PC companion. it says that doesnt have software for my phone
I want to update without flashtools using only sony's soft.
can someone help?
If the PC Companion says that you have the latest update then you have no other way to use Flashtools and flash an ICS ftf to update the Phone.
And there's nothing wrong to update the phone using flashtools.
You can use SEUS to update although it would wipe your data.

Hey
I've had a Xperia ZL for about 2 weeks now, love the phone.
I'm using Build 10.1.A.1.395
Mine is a Rogers C6506 Variant - I got it brand new (off contract) from Kijiji and unlocked it via code.. I'm using it with LTE on Virgin Mobile Canada without issue.
Am I using the newest firmware? PC Companion says so, but from what I can find my firmware is from March and there was new firmware out in May, is this correct?
Never heard anything about 395...anyways,253 is the latest firmware available(307 is going to come soon,,also a 4.2 update is nearby),try updating through Sony update service(Google this for more info)
If you feel that I've helped you in any way,,please hit the thanks button
Sent from my C6502 using Tapatalk 2
.395 is the oldest, actually. So no.
Since your phone is branded with Rogers, you will need to wait for Rogers to update their product which will probahly never happen. Maybe they will update when Sony updates to 4.2.
If you want to update via PC Companion, just flash your phone with a generic 395, 434 or the latest 253 FTF with flashtool and the next time they (Sony) release an update you will be able to receive it via PC Companion or even OTA.
Remember that flashing a stock Sony FTF file doesnt void your warranty since you dont unlock your BL.
Don't wait for Rogers to update, you'll wait forever....
Have fun...

Edit: Found some threads reading up on it. Like Odin with previous note 2
This is great news. Is this difficult? Would you be so kind to point me to the correct files or provide a little guidance? I want to do this yet can't afford to muck up.
I am having the same issue with my phone. If I unlock it though Rogers
can I update it directly from Sony PC Companion or will I still have to wait for
Rogers updates and would have to flash it like you guys are recommending?
Also would unlocking it through my carrier enable me to unlock the bootloader?
Thanks

If you flash the Sony generic, you will get the updates through PC Companion or OTA as they get pushed out by Sony. Rogers is extremely slow to release new builds and i really dont think they update unless its like from ICS to JB or something major. But not from 4.1.2 to a different build of 4.1.2.
Flashing your phone with the stock FTF will not change your BL unlock allowed to YES.
If your phone is from Rogers like mine it is probably on Allowed unlock BL = NO
But it doesnt matter, all firmwares can be rooted and recovery can be installed so unless you want a custom kernel you want to tweak, there really isnt any point of unlocking the BL. Besides, its voids your warranty.

Great! Thank you for your help! I will try it out this weekend.
One more question about the Rogers phone and unlocking it with them.
Will the unlock BL allowed switch to yes? or does the unlock just enable me to switch
carriers?

BL unlock does not change - will still not be unlockable
Sim Unlock and BL Unlock are not the same.
I want to flash the FTF but want to make sure I'm doing the right file - Where do we get the newest Generic FTF that will work on the C6506 (Rogers) Variant?
BigStyle84 is right. Do not confuse unlocking your BL with SIM unlock.
SIM unlock allows you to use your phone with any carrier provided the baseband is compatible. Unlocking the bootloader allows you to flash the Kernel which isnt something I would recommend doing if your not comfortable with. You can still flash other ROM's via recovery if you are rooted.

Hyelton has a thread where you can download either the 395 or 434. The 253 is also in XDA somewhere, I can't remember from which thread I got it from...
Here is thread where the FTF for the 395 or 434 is for your C6506:

Looks like the latest 4.2.2 is getting released as we speak....
Xperia ZL Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean 10.3.A.0.423
Might as well wait a few days for this one to get released and update to it or flash it once the FTF gets leaked for the C6506

Xperiablog now has the 4.2.2 US Generic TFT
Flashed mine - dead simple - now rocking 4.2.2 with no bloatware
Thanks for the help! Glad I made this thread.
Android 4.2.2 Build: 10.3.A.0.423 is here
I just received a 4.2.2 update for my Xperia ZL few days back and that's definitely the latest
It is filled with new amazing features http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2332956
I got the update via PC Companion
My Device:
Xperia ZL (C6502) India
Android 4.2.2 Build: 10.3.A.0.423
Boot Loader Lock (BL)
Press thanx if I helped you in any way
Hi to all. Today ia have unlock the bootloader of my Xperia M After the 1rst boot i get a new firmware update. Should i update?
Doing so can ruin the phone?
Updating your phone with OTA (over the air) & SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service (I aren't too sure on this one)) will brick your phone. Only update your device through .ftf files which you flash through flashtool.
Well i have a LT18a (2.3.4 and 4.0.2.A.0.42 [im almost sure its also sim locked but havent tried] )and i want to upgrade to 4.0.4 without making any stupid move that could **** up the phone. Is there any way to update it via ota without a sim? i tried to check for updates but it says its already updated.
Iff not, could you give me a guide for dummies to upgrade it?
Thank you very much.
