First of all is the Soft Plastic and TPU the same thing?
Secondly those using a TPU case, does the phone slip out of the case easily when taking out of the pocket specially denim jeans?
Thanks
soft plastic is more like a silicon case. and tpu's imo are the best. and they wont slip out
TPU are better at holding the phone and it won't slip off.

TPU is the best.. unlike the silicone cases you wont have the problem of the case slipping out..
I have never had the issue of TPU slipping out. You should be fine with that.

My wife and I both have EVOs, one with a Seidio Rugged case and the other with a Seidio Active case. Both are top quality cases that offer great protection.
The rugged case consists of a hard plastic case that goes over the phone, with a silicone sleeve that goes over the inner case, with a hard plastic exoskeleton that goes over that. It's extremely bulky but does a nice job of protecting the phone. I already dropped mine from 3 feet onto asphalt and there's nothing but a little scratch on the case.
The Active Case is a much better design in my opinion. It's not nearly as bulky but offers the same protection and the power and volume buttons don't feel as squishy. It also feels significantly thinner. The active case is a silicon sleeve that covers the phone with a hard plastic exoskeleton outside of that. I'd say that it offers the same level of protection as the Active case. My daughter dropped the phone with the Active case onto a plate of food and the plate shattered, yet the phone survived.
Curious question...I just got a rugged and it has the holster. My question is will the ACTIVE fit in the rugged holster?
No

I have an Active case and just dropped it like 3' on to carpet and broke the hard exoskeleton, any idea if you can purchase that separately as a replacement part?

Dropped my rugged from about 14 feet. I forgot to lock the holster and rubbed it against my ladder. Took it like a champ. Glad I had it on.
So rather than sift through a bagillion threads I figured I'd just ask outright. Are there any cases of decent protection level that aren't like sticky? I'm basically looking for a nice case that doesn't have silicone on the outside at all. I've had an otterbox commuter and the case mate tough case and while I love the way they feel, they are too hard to get out of my pocket, and once they do come out they are covered in dust and lint. I really love my case mate tough case but even though most of the silicone is covered by the abs plastic, it still gets a pretty good hold on the insides of my pockets. Any reccomendations would be highly appreciated.
The innocase II is a soft-touch surface, kinda like the back of the evo stock. Pretty easy to get out of the pocket without any lint, and should offer a similar level of protection to the casemate, not sure about the commuter.
You might want to check out the Ballistic HC case. It has a silicone outer cover, but you can use the case with or without it. If you just use the inner case, the outside of that is a harder type of rubber that's not sticky at all. The inner case by itself has about the same protection as an Otterbox or other rugged cases. If you add the outer silicone layer, it has far more protection than any other case out there.

+1 for the ballistic, but it is pretty bulky compared to the casemate and the commuter which you're using right now
Ok cool thanks guys. I knew the Ballistic had the silicone but I had no idea you didnt have to use it.

Hybrid case with hard plastic around each corner but the rubbery feel/grip where you will hold the phone. really tight and not bulky.
this is my 3rd case. Kickstand case - waaay too bulky. tpu case - nice but kind of slippery didn't think it protected the phone that well. this hybrid case is just great...highly recommended.

How is the case. I saw it and was thinking about it. My biggest thing is how much bigger and heavier does it make the phone? I'm using a tpu for that exact reason.
Holy crap that thing looks THICK... look how recessed the camera bezel is! And that sticks out of the phone!
I never understood why anyone would want a hard case. Hard cases will transmit all the shock right through the case to the phone - which is what you buy your phone to protect.
I've got a TPU case, it's got a feel like hard rubber, so if I dropped it, I'd feel better that the case itself would absorb shock and protect the phone.
Plus, it's thin - look at pictures of it and compare how the lens looks. It fits well enough that it doesn't even look like a case, honestly.
because hard cases stop PUNCTURE assaults. Soft cases stop impact assaults.
so a "hybrid" is usually preferred. soft on the corners where impacts do the most damage and "hard" on the back to stop puncture style impacts.
at least that is the theory.
Do all silicon cases when you put it in your pocket the screen collects a lot more dust and lint around the phone where the case meets the bezel?
I got this case from Verizon wireless, i think it the high gloss one.
I love the case because it fits perfectly doesn't make the phone too big. While not sure how well it will protect if i drop it, the biggest plus is, it gives me a better grip and does not slide out of hand so i will not drop it.
Every time I pull the phone out of pocket has tons of dust and lint and so hard to clean without taking the case off.
So I am curious anyone have any recommendations for a similar silicon case that will not attract all that dust while in the pocket?
Thanks
I have the same case and don't really have an issue. Maybe you should put a canned air in your other pocket to blow it off each time you pull it out. ^_^

I have a S-line TPU case from ebay, I find a lot of dust and fluff sticking to the edges in my pocket, but it doesn't bother me, maybe I just have really dirty pockets!
Yeah, I get a lot of dust and lint in there too. I use the amzer case with the Verizon screen protectors.

Interesting thing is if I go naked with nexus it does not attract much dust.
Something to do with the silicon.

Should avoid silicone cases. They are dust magnets and will start stretching soon. Tpu's are way better and cost the same.

Thanks any recommendation which one?
I never heard of TPU that is new to me. What does that stand for?
Maybe I will return this case since it was $24.99
TPU wikipedia link, fantastic material! Plenty of cases on eBay for only a few pounds!

Very much so. Silicone is always a lint magnet especially if you pocket your phone.
I got myself the Barely There Case in black by Case-Mate. Was about to get the Otterbox Commuter but was worried that it would make the phone too big to hold with one hand.
Thanks everyone I went for one of the TPU forgot name starts with a D, rev 3..for I think $10 off amazon.
Will return this one at verizon once I get it
I use the Verizon silicon case too and found the same issue. Thats why I empty out my jacket's pocket completely before putting my phone in.
All the Same
I find the TPU cases to be nearly as good at concentrating dust on screens as silicone. It seems more a function of the protective lip protruding around the edge of the screen than the material it's made of. A dirty phone is just the price one pays for trying to protect it.
Anyone know if there is a decent Plastic type case for our T989? I'm looking for something that will emulate the back cover feel. I don't like silicone cases and really looking for something that will protect the phone but have basically the same feel that it does right now.
Basically I want it to take some punishment but be able to take it out of my pocket easilly like it does now.
The diztronic TPU cases seem to fit your criteria. I have one and like it. It's not silicon and stays on quite firmly. I've dropped my phone many times with no dings or scratches. Without a case, the t989 actually is too thin sometimes.
i got a smoke color TPU from ebay and its smooth and glossy like the back cover - doesnt feel too rubbery or too much like plastic
Try this case i bought on amazon. its not very expensive and it has a hard plastic back but the sides are TPU material. the case feels great on my phone and its very snug. it can surely take a beating and it doesnt add much bulk to the phone. i recommend it.
only downside is that the power and volume buttons are not cut out but everything else is.
i still highly recommend it. if you look under the sellers page and type t989 in the search bar it will give you more of the same case in different colors.

I agree, I've been using the Diztronic case on my Galaxy S2 and I am very happy with it.
