[Q] DK28 Flashing - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Team XDA,
I recently bought an epic 4g for my wife but it was loaded with DK28. It seems I've tried my darnedest to odin/flash using the computer. I notice that while booting into recovery I have an option to use update.zip. Is this okay coming from this ROM? if so, must I go to a specific update.zip from DK28?
Thanks for your help guys/gals!

Is the phone rooted. what recovery do you have. I would say try to flash a different rom and then try to use odin. make sure you flash a bml read the wiki on rooting and or watch the video's that qbking77 has made he has a lot of helpful videos and links to the threads you will need.
hope this helps

Download the el30 in android development and use odin to flash it. You won't be rooted yet, but that will get you up to date. Dk28 you say? Wow, they were old skooool.

What's what? Lol ROM or odin
Is your phone rooted? If not take it to Sprint. If it is you need to go to the development section and learn what Odin is and does. Odin gives you the ability to overwrite the ROM and Modem. A fresh install if you will. Read the sticky on how to restore your phone from brick.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
so after the fresh install then waht will it do? so sprint will root it? Sorry guys im not a big computer guy but thank you for the help!
Do not let Sprint know that your trying to root your phone lol download the newest one click root from the sticky in the development section and read the instruction carefully before doing anything
EDIT: newest one click being cwm 3.1.0.1

It has menu optimizations to be more efficient
New reboot menu
PreROM wipe that wipes /data and caches
PreTheme wipe that wipes caches

Various underhood tweaks.
All builds will be here:

Anyone know how to flash this without ODIN? Also can't flash via cwm because of a "signature verification failed" error. I could

If I knew where the recovery was.

turn off sig verification, or unzip the cwm-flashable, and use DD to flash it
What kernel is this based on? I really like your recovery and I was wondering if I needed to flash the EK02 kernel again after updating to your recovery?
Potential mod, version, or port to the OG Epic!?...that new compatable ROM manager version just doesn't stick...I wind up in ACS CWM4 version and have to flash a zip everytime I want to use CWM5...smh

Its stock repacked EF02 with ACS Recovery. You flash this and you're all set unless I am in the wrong thread but I don't think I am. After you flash it, go to settings /about phone and check there

That should work just fine. Just think of the ACS Recovery as a streamlined version of CWM with quicker options to wipe

Anyone having issues with ADW Launcher EX after this is flashed? I flashed this and the Blazer ROM and am not sure what is causing my bootloops whenever I load ADW launcher EX onto my phone. Any help is appreciated. I am going to post this in that thread as well.

Any updates made to the recovery? On 1.0.0.0 wipe data does not appear to be working. Also when you backup to internal SD it skips android_secure because it is looking for it on internal SD.

[Q] Back to stock from CleanGB v1.1.2 MTD

What is the best way to get back to a stock rom from a phone flashed with CleanGB v1.1.2[MTD]?
Thanks.
Odin would be the best way, you could have flashed this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1461377 but you're on MTD

Thanks for the replies guys.
@masaidjet - Sadly I was not the one that flashed it to begin with, but I'm the one tasked to fix it.
@Big Goron - that is what I was looking for, think I can take it from here but will gt in touch if I have questions/issues.
Thanks again...
Dont use the USB cable that came with your phone.....if you dont know that by now.

Virgin E4GT first flash to AOKP

So im not to familar with samsung phones as im coming from the evo. My question is how i would go about flashing the newest AOKP. My epic touch is fresh running el29. Do i need to root first or can i just odin a gb rom with cwm recovery an go from there?

What i did first was flash a rooted kernel with Odin .

Kernels :http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II/SPH-D710/Kernels i like Team Rogues Kernels

sweeeeet thaanks again man
so its safe to flash el26 kernal on a el29 rom??
edit: im also not rooted
What Rom do you plan on flashing first ? Some require you to flash a certain kernel for their Rom .
But it should be ok for you to flash any recovery for your first one to make a back up.

I keep reading about everyone using CWM EL26 recovery so my question is, can I odin that recovery over my current agat one? If not how will I go about it? Also my nandroid of my stock rom will still be available when switching recoveries or do I need to go back to stock, switch recoveries then do another nandroid? I am fairly new to samsung so I want to be safe.....thanks.
If anyone can help I would highly appreciate it. Thank you.

What is your end goal?
I'm totally new to Samsung too. I use HTC. But I got my mom a gnex and rooted it with a custom recovery to maintain it properly for her. Maintaining Sammy is different from maintaining HTC.
How do I get the stock recovery back so I can take the firmware ota? I dont see a firmware ota I can just fastboot or recovery flash and the gnex forums are a total mess.

Agreed - please be careful where you post as each device has its own builds.
I understand it's not, and wouldn't use any files for another device. Just saw this post on front page of xda app, and since my question was similar, I figured I'd throw mine in, too. Thanks though.
Edit: and my god, the gnex forums are a MESS because the diff carriers and unbranded etc.
