Miui uses a different kernel (stock CWM). Cwm are built into the kernel. its a samsung phone thing. the one u had b4 was probably a stock rooted rom with rogue stock kernel. im not sure though. correct me if im wrong anybody

[Q] Is it possible to undo a kernel once installed?

I'm using the stock Gingerbread "Leak" rom version 4.12.651.1 that was leaked recently and I played around with it at first. Took several pictures and videos and enjoyed getting back to having Sense on my phone.
I used Kernel Manager Lite to download and install the Netarchy Toastmod-cfs-havs-more-sbc kernel and at now everytime I open up the camera it shows a white screen and I can't take a picture or video anymore.
Is there a why to uninstall or undo this kernel without having to reflash my Evo? I'd like to go back to just the stock kernel i guess. I even tried to use the Kernal Manager Lite to download and install a different Netarchy Toastmod kernel but it wouldn't install it over a previous kernel and when I clicked on the kernel I already have installed it won't give me an option to uninstall it...
Thanks for any help you guys can give me.
Find the stock kernel for that ROM and flash in recovery after wiping cache and dalvik cache.I will try to find stock kernel for that ROM.
Yeah there's no way to undo once u flash a kernel.....may I make a suggestions for ya foe the future.....Ive been doing this for a while......flash the ROM and make a backup once yur all setup...this way u can tinker with the rom and kernels and themes and what not.......and if those tweaks don't work for ya......u got a backup of a fully stock rom......

Thanks guys for the awesome advice!
Reverepats, it's funny you said that because that's the first thing that I thought about after this happened and I'm still kicking myself for not backing it up before flashing the kernel LOL It'll be a lesson learned I guess
Ianmb, that would be AWESOME if someone had this. I'll keep looking for this too but if I have to I guess my only recourse would be to wipe it all and reflash all over again... /sigh
There is a post for a working kernel for that ROM on the second page if the ROM is the stock 4.xxx. Stock kernel 15 I think, can't upload file from my phone?
ianmb, thanks for looking but I can't find any stock kernel #15 out there. not even google can help me =/
So it's possible to reflash a kernel over an already installed kernel? If i find the stock kernel how do I go about installing it? Via recovery?
Forgive me if I'm wrong...but if you just reflashed the rom without wiping, I believe it would install the stock kernel that came with the rom

How can I get CM10 while on UVALH3?

Still a major noob here. I want to get cyanogenmod 10 onto my s3 but I've had issues ever since putting on UVALH3. If I want to get CM10 can someone walk me through all the steps to get there, or is it just impossible?

Do you have a recovery installed like CWM or TWRP? Lets start with that.

Could it be I was supposed to do this before flashing CM10? Because I simply rooted installed freegs3, wiped data and caches and all, then I flashed cm10. Was that the wrong way? Should I go back to stock and restart the process? Because right now for one, custom kernels are giving me strange issues. Also, a ktoonz kernel dev told me my log cat pointed towards corrupt partition or Rom, but I'm using cm10

pretty sure having a custom recovery isn't your issue if you are to the point of wiping caches and flashing kernels. The OP is asking how to wipe a stock ROM off and get CM on his/her phone i'm pretty sure.

No i do not. I tried rooting my phone and it didn't take, and you need to root before CWM right? I had CWM when I was on Uvalh2 but when I went through the process of Uvalh3 I guess I lost it. Should I go ahead and do it? I have the zip file in my phone, still.
I should also mention that when I go into recovery the android dude is fallen over, dead. I'm guessing that's a bad sign.
That just means you're on stock recovery. Odin a rooted rom which you can find in the dev forums (root without tripping flash), then install twrp or cwm, then flash cm10, then flash desired radio.

I need help with my girls phone please

I have flashed a calkulin TW Rom on my girls phone a long while ago, it is android 2.3. She has been asking me to flash an ICS Rom on her phone or even JB if everything works. I just started reading around on here and it seems to have gotten very confusing with all of this kernel talk and everything. Can someone tell me if I can flash a updated kernel while still on this old Rom, and then backup this android 2.3 Rom, then flash an ICS or JB Rom? I need to knkw if she doesn't like the new Rom, will I be able to restore the old 2.3 Rom with this new kernel and recovery. Can someone explain this to me, or point me to the best thread to learn about this phone again. I'm used to HTC devices and they seem way less confusing than this phone. Thanks in advance.

An updated kernel? If you mean ICS or JB kernel you cant do that.. You can only use gingerbread kernels with gingerbread.. Now if you want to try some JB / ICS
Just make a back up of what you have... Grab your rom of choice
Wipe everything(its safe since your on GB), and flash your ICS/JB rom (kernels are included with these roms so no worries)
Now when you want to restore just go back into the recovery of your rom(whatever you flashed) and restore the calk rom.. It will be just like you left it

Ok, thanks for the extremely quick reply. I have also seen things about unsafe recoverys or something of the sort. I'm on a very old recovery on her phone. What would you suggest I update the recovery to before I do this? I believe it has the cwm rogue recovery on it now if I remember right. Thanks again.

If you are familiar with odin or mobile Odin.. I'd odin /mobile Odin the El26 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662295.. Unless you are on el26 now? It been a minute since I been on GB
But ICS kernels are now safe (agats, kuban kernel) to flash from and restore your back up to GB
JB kernels are safe as well to restore your back ups /flash from
I never *flashed from a jb kernel tho.. I always play safe and mobile Odin el26 before flashing from a JB kernel

Just go to the Android development forum (not original development) there's a sticky there called kernel repository find any gingerbread kernel and as long as it's not rouge recovery you'll be able to backup her current ROM and flash any new one you want. I say avoid rouge because seems a lot of people myself included couldn't flash roms from rouge. And if you want to do jellybean sbrissen's kernel/recovery is safe to flash back any ROM as well. I did it last week

[Q] When flashing an ICS (or JB) ROM

Sorry if this was posted, the SGSII is active and sort of cluttered so its hard to find which one is what.
The question: So I successfully flashed, gained root, and got a custom recovery for my friends SGSII. Whenever I try to flash a ROM, like CyanogenMod 9 or MIUI.us it get stuck at boot, and yes I am on ICS. I also heard that the CWM Recovery for this phone is messed up, so can anyone fill me on that? Is there a special thing I have to do before flashing a ROM? Do I have to use TWRP instead of CWMR?
CWM Recovery version: 5.0.2.7
Android OS: ICS 4.0.4
SGSII Version: T-Mobile

Yes but in real life it unnecessary
I was having some problems too until I realized that I was using an ancient version of CWM. Flashed a newer CWM Touch and all was well after that - I was able to to perform a successful wipe and flash of CM10 - everything just worked perfectly after that.
Let me get this straight...
Flash TWRP
Use TWRP to flash Super Wipe
Flash a ROM
... and enjoy ROM?
Did I get it right?
I don't understand and believe me I'm not complaining but I have cwr5027 and use dark side scripts all the time and never have problems.
Is it just a matter of time? I flash often...very often.

Thank you guys! I cannot hold my gratitude so I have to post a thanks to those who have helped! TWRP is the best alternative recovery
I have now successfully flashed CM9.1 and my friend will be very happy indeed with the bloat gone and the pure ICS feel!

How do i install AGAT recovery on GB27 rooted?

Hey guys i just installed a GB27 rom and i am rooted by i cant find how to install a custom recovery like cwm or agat? how do i do this?
There are tutorials in the stickies of the development and general sections.
You will need to flash the GB27 stock kernel back once you are done with flashing whatever tweaks or mods you want.

Odin or mobile odin

Currently there is only a repack kernel and you do not want to stay on that for long... but here it is just flash it in Odin (or mobile Odin) and reboot into recovery. also, you may want to DL the stock kernel and flash that after your done flashing in AGATS.

iam about to smash this phone. but it seems that ever since i had tryed to flash GB08 or GB27 all i have its bad luck. mening i instal eather rom succesfully. and everytime i try to flash the custom recovery from agat and after its all succesfully flashed i go to the custom recovery and do a factory reset and clear cache using the lates agats recovery and once i exite the recovery my phone stays on soem stupid boot loop on the sprint 4g boost screen and keeps looping.. so i have no other choice to go back to Fi27 from freaking 6 months ago. does anybody knows about this boot loop crap? i even dowloaded the latest agats recovery today and still same issue.. weather i use oding or mobie oding he same issue happens. now i also use agts recovery when i use the Fi27 and it works awesome. i just dont know what is this boot loop crap issue on JB.

I know there's a lot of information in the thread link in the quote you posted, but it discusses the known issue of the boot loops and the efforts to get the source kernels and the CWM/tRec recovery issues resolved.
With that being said; You're doing the right thing by using a known working recovery to bypass that issue when you want to reset and/or wipe.
Keep paying attention to that thread as Garwynn is working on it, and narrowing it down, and Agat will join in when he gets back.
I would suggest going back and reading that thread in it's entirety.
Long story short, something changed in GB27 versus other builds that causes data to be wiped in a way that permissions are not set properly and the kernel panics, resulting in said boot loop.
Here's the good news - the file system itself appears to be fine because I did a before/after and it can create files. Just throws all sorts of permission errors. If I can get a cable from home (and time at work today) I might build a test kernel without panic set in the fstab and for testing only. If not will have to wait until tomorrow for me to test.
