[Q] Dark Forest Rom or Cyanogenmod? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys!
I'm interested in changing the rom inside my phone, but I don't know what rom is the best. Wich one would you recommend me? I'm interest in those in my subject but if there is something better, please let me know!

Of your in two minds between stock based Darkforest ROM and cyanogen then there's only one solution for you.
Darkforest mix. Its based on cm7 but integrated a lot of stock also, so it's the best of both worlds.
Everything is functional, Bluetooth, touch pads etc and you get the great customization that comes with cm7 (theme chooser as well)

Unless you want fully working touchpad .... If you do you need to stick to stock.

Sorry meant stockbased

This is whats always confused me about the Darkforest MIX it says the touchpads dont work like stock but on all games i've tried they're exactly the same: Shadowgun (flawless), PES, Age of Zombies, N.O.V.A 2 all work exactly as they did in stock.
I know people have said about GTA 3 but i bought it and always found it unplayable so i havent installed it again. buttons were horrible

I hadn't noticed DarkForestRom before...
Are DarkForestRom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1496076) and DarkForestMix (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1482104) distinct ROMs or is one a replacement for the other?
I have been using CM 7.2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128216), but am considering giving CM 9.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447542) a try...
What is not fully functional about the touchpads in CM? I've used them in some games and they seem to work fine, but I haven't played a lot of games/etc, so I'm wondering what's not fully functional? Just want to know what I'm missing out on.
As I understand it, the stock-based ROMs maintain the Playstation certified-access and so can play the Playstation Pocket games as well as the PSXperia stuff?
Whereas with CM, it's not Playstation-certified anymore, so cannot play the Playstation Pocket games or the PSXperia stuff? Is this the case with DarkForest as well?
Posting my questions here, since I'm also interested on the differences between DarkForest and CM, and hope the answers will help the OP.

Best ROM for non-touchpad users?

I've been out of XDA for a while, and while I am fairly up to date about the Xperia Play, is like to gather you're opinions about this topic. I don't make use of the touchpads, as I'm retrogaming quite a lot at the moment. Which would you say is the best choice for a ROM, knowing that I don't use the touchpads?

miui the best in my opinion.

Try my miui v4 build if you want

cyanogen 7 or the darkforestrom at the moment are the most stable, but probably team rom isn't bad
The thing is, there aren't many games that you really NEED the touchpads for.
The only program I use the touchpads for is Mugen64, my Nintendo 64 emulator.
I am using CM7 and the touchpads work. Ony thing I notice that hasn't worked on CM7 is the barcode scanner. But seriously, who uses that thing on a regular basis?
+1 for MIUI its awesome, really love it, as long as you don't need Bluetooth either

[Q] Best ICS ROM for HD gaming with Xperia controls + fast?

I'm looking for an ICS ROM which doesn't mess with my battery because of wifi drivers, half of my ram, can't record video and can't run GTA3 for more than eight seconds (...*cough*CM9*cough*...)
I'm looking for something that can play Shadowgun with Xperia controls, AOSP themed, runs fast, deodexed, isn't a ram or battery hog, and is fast.
Can't choose between Darkforest ICS, ICS++ and many others so I'm asking, what would be the best ROM for gaming and speed?
Sent from the best gaming android smartphone in the world with the best forum android app in the world
Lol me too. Im in DarkForest now, but will try ICS++ later this day. Personally i don't have a problem with Darkforest as my problem is in ICS Beta itself that can see in every ICS based ROM, atleast someone said that to me.
But ICS++ looks promising as i really dig the AOSP look and everything.

But does Darkforest play HD games with Xperia controls as expected? Also, what is this *problem* you are talking about?

Wait for official ICS
All the current ICS roms have issues in one way or another and don't work as well as stock gingerbread.

If you want to play games, bug free, stick with GB for now

can someone sum up why certain games don't work plz?

Most STABLE ICS rom?

Hello guys i have been trying a few ICS roms now but i still wondering how i can get the most stable ics experience.
The best ive got now is like 2 phone crashes a day. I am useing the Krabappel rom (KA)
Id like to have ics for the touchpad functinality in fpse.
Oh another question, is it possible to get the xperia play gamepad working with onlive on ice cream sandwich? It worked perfect on gingerbread.
Thanks for your time.
May I ask why you want ICS? Gingerbread is perfect, why upgrade to a buggy beta? Compatibility sucks on ICS.
If you care about your games, the best thing to do is stay on gb. The only stable ics roms are cm9 based with no touchpads working. Some games actually detect that you have an xperia play and show you the control schemes but the touchpads won't work.

He didn't ask about the compatibility, he asked for the most stable ics rom.
Besides, fpse will only work with ICS beta released by sony. Only ics beta has different touchpads implementation. But the beta is very slow, laggy and pissing off.

Ah. So what Gingerbread custom rom should i take?

NXT v1.2 with DooMkernel. I honestly can't speak highly enough of it. If you choose it I suggest you flash the accompanying add-ons as well. Contains some kind of new Timescape layout that looks brilliant
First page of the dev section if you wanna look for it

FXP125 works much better than AokPlay for me
Aokplay is amazing, especially now with the touchpad fix. However some games don't work at all.
Try Darkforest ICS. I tried almost all of the ROMs in the past few days, and that worked the most smoothly. Anyway Gingerbread still works better, so now I'm on Gin2ICS 1.7.7. Sadly the touchpads doesn't work properly in Order and Chaos with any of the ICS ROMs.

Good JB R800x ROM?

Anyone got a good Jelly Bean ROM that'll work on my x? By good, I mean able to play games well and a good battery life.

Would SlimBean be a good ROM to move to?
Its a good rom but if you plan on playing top end games like mc4 and gta vice city I would stick to gb as there is lag when u use touch pads ics is probably better I can play vice city on low graphic setting on miui Australia with no problem

Try tho official beta from Sony
Or
Xdark ics by xdark mario
They are both very stable and smooth with no bugs and they have full touchpads and gamepad support.
Slim. (I know it is a JB rom)
Bug free
CM Theme Manager
Touch pads work e.t.c
Smoother than all of ICS Roms
I used it on my play 4 months ago before it broke back then and I had no issues so stable.

Hmmmm.....
I wanna use slim, but people say battery life isnt so good on ICS and its worse on JB.
So im not sure...
From memory it lasted about 5 days on idle on slim ROM
And about 2-3 days on light usage 1h Day
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Ok, i might try this...
but is it more stable than extremerom or ics??

Like I said I used it last 4 months ago but never had problems/issues with it.
Ever since I got my play repaired I only used it to develop my rom.
Therefore I dont know what is in the new update recently done to Slim.
The new test version of my rom lasted me 8 days on idle.
And I have it for a year = used battery so it probably could hold longer than that.
However still speaking of Slim I really recommend it, smoothest JB ROM on our play.

SLIM ROM :> WHAT A SUPRISE
