[Q] I bought a used E4GT... how do I erase all this guy's data? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I have his pictures (figured that out), contacts, android market accounts, etc..
Now, I was able to do a factory reset... but this didn't remove anything. I had to go in and erase the pics in the settings/storage manually.
I was able to get another Android Market account active, and downloaded a Walkie Talkie App Called Voxer... Then all of a sudden. I get flooded with his old contacts on voxer.. This is ridiculous.. The contacts are somewhere else on the phone.. it must be.. So annoying...
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently downloading ODIN.. would that do it for me?

have you rooted yet?

No.. I'm flashing this phone to Boost (Bad ESN).. I just want it back to factory default..

Check to see if it has a custom recovery first.
Power Off then Power On + Vol Up
Even if it doesn't have a custom recovery you can wipe data in stock recovery.

go to settings>storage>format usb storage(will erase music and photos)>and if he gave you one format SD card to clear that too hope that helps ya out

I've done that... It did erase some of the videos he had on here and what not. But some apps still act as if there is data on the phone that's his. Could it be some identifying number in the phone itself is making the apps think it's his?.. ugh... so confusing..
Thanks for the help though.

Use the method I suggested

Try removing whatever google account is linked. I think you can do that under sync settings.

There is a stock recovery on the phone you access by the same hold Vol Up and Power button method. It does have the data wipe/factory reset option.

Same thing was happening to me.
Two things:
1.Settings>privacy>Factory Data Reset) this will erase all the accounts and settings
&
2. Settings>Storage>Format Usb Storage and Format SD card.
I kept forgetting to erase Usb Storage as some App folders & setttings are kept there.
Hope it helps.

Then use a file explorer (from your PC or from the phone, your preference) and make sure the internal SD card was really cleared.
Google doesn't sync based on the phone number. Are both his account and yours showing under Accounts and Sync?
The guy who sold it to you either is a moron for not wiping his phone and should be thanking his lucky stars that you aren't a dishonest person, or maybe he sold you a stolen phone and didn't care that it wasn't wiped because it wasn't his data...
Not that out matters necessarily, but did the person say why the ESN was bad? I'm just curious. I get amused by the people who somehow rack up a crazy bill with Sprint.

Just a few questions about a few problems.

OK I have a Virgin Mobile USA Wildifire S. I have it s-off and rooted. Now what files can I delete so my phone can run safely so I can free up space? I removed most of the bloatware but I still don't have enough space.
Why is my contact storage taking up over 20mb. I don't have that many contacts and FB is set to only sync with my current contacts in the phone.
For some reason I'm constantly getting force closes for just about everything when I open it the first time. I tried fixing the permissions but after that nothing will run everything forces closes all the time.
Can anybody help me with these problems?

What did you remove? List them?
Does your contacts have photos?
In ClockWorkMod did you clear the partition cache and dalvik cache after removing the apks??

I can't remember everything I removed. But it was all that dumb software like games and stuff that come with the phone.
My contacts have photos but on my old phone the storage was never above 5mb and I had more contacts on that phone.
No but I will try that.
I did download an experimental ROM....... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1367701] ...........this worked great until I noticed my mms wasn't working so I made a backup of that until the problem could be fixed.
So I reverted back to where I had these problems listed above and I will now try your third recommendation.
Anybody know what to do to fix mms issues?
try backing your contacts onto your Google account........I had the same problem with the contacts storage.....backed my phone contacts to the Google account and voila!!!!it took only 3 MB

Been done a long long long time ago when I first got an android. LOL
inconsistency in battery usage stats
Guys, I came across this bug on my wfs-
the battery usage statistics of my phone (settings>about phone>battery>battery use>) "d h m s on battery" gets reset when i restart the phone.
Pls test this on your phone. I noticed the issue after 2.3.5 upgrade:
1. fully charge your phone (required).
2. wait for 5-10 minutes and check the battery stats.
3. uncheck Fast Boot from Settings>Power (required).
4. turn off the phone and switch it on again.
5. check the battery stats -" d h m s on battery" again.
Does it retain its value from step 2. or is it reset?
Once the battery level comes down to 88-85%, it functions normally and the stats persists after a restart (shows same data as in step 2).
I did factory reset but its not resolved.
Can anyone tell me whether its a hardware issue or OS related?
Mine is virgin WFS updated to 2.3.5 via FOTA.
I would imagine that It's connected to changing the fastboot option. But I can't replicate right now.

Any skins you don't use would be high on the list of things to axe. they suck up over a meg a piece.
also, if you haven't already, forcing apps to the SD will free space nicely.
in a terminal emulator do this (case sensitive)
su
pm setInstallLocation 2
now semi-everything will be movable to SD.
What I need to ask is, does it happen right after you check fastboot, or do you have to reboot to get the reset.
Sent from my HTC_A510c using Tapatalk
Just the reboot resets the stats.
Chk the screenshot, the graph starts from 90% cos I rebooted at that point.

Application Manager -> All. Select Media Storage, and clear data. Reboot the phone. This will force the system to rescan all media files.

Might I suggest, sadly, the last two options:
Completely delete the entire SD card. If that doesn't work, format your phone. If you're rooted, backup any NECESSARY data, (no options, settings or anything like that, just in case it's related to the settings, but you can make a back up, just don't restore), and then reset device to factory default and see if that eliminates the issue.
Wait, are you rooted? On stock Android Galaxy Note 2? Or do you have any special changes done to your phone?

Are you on CM10?
I believe that this is a bug that has been hitting Samsung phones. It's either, a) a fault in the MMC chip, or b) a CM10 bug. I've had that happen 3 times to me, the 1st time I had no backups and lost over 10GB of media from my External SD Card. The other 2 times I was prevented and lost everything but had a backup. So protip : backup each time you have something new on your phone. Better safe than sorry.
Now, download this program and run it. It'll recover almost all the deleted photos from your SD : http://www.piriform.com/recuva

Hi, I dont know if I have CM10 :S .. i only know that I have anything as brand new (stock rom).
I found a solution but it`s not 100% working.
I downloaded Fish bowl gallery and go in setting>advanced>find missing photos> and than I select the maps where the photos are but are not shown in the stock gallery.
I waited till photos are added and now i have 100 photos (of 117 total) added in my stock gallery (but i still does not have other 17 photos)
Thank you
You should return your phone. If your pictures aren't showing up even after flashing an official rom then something is wrong.

[Q] All media files are missing

I set an alarm on my Galaxy Nexus to wake me up this morning. And I hear a sound before my alarm rang, then I woke up. And the sound is coming from my phone. And I thought my friend changed my alarm ringtone. But when I go into the setting, the alarm ringtone is still the one I set. But how could the ringtone changed? And i freaked out. Then I goto Gallery, All photos are gone, including camera photos, Whatsapp photo, Viber photo and also Instagram. Then I go to Play Music, all songs are also gone.
Then I searched from the net, Many posts say that it is caused by ROM Manager (RM). But I dint install it at all1 before. I only unlock my bootloader and flashed my phone to yakju using the factory image from Google Developer website, because the original one I had is yakjuxw (something like that? Cant really remember the actual variant I had).
I am using File Manager to browse the files on my phone. What I have tried since this morning are, (1) Search for .nomedia and deleted all of them. (2) Then I also cleared cache and data and also forced stop the Gallery, Google Play Music and Media Storage from Setting -> Apps -> All. (3) Then I also downloaded Rescan Media. Then i use Rescan Media. Then I go to Gallery and saw 4 to 5 photos are there. But after I repeat the procedures of clearing the cache and data, force stop and rescan, the 4 to 5 photos in gallery are gone again.
I really need the photos and songs back. Can anyone out there help me? Your advanced reply is much appreciated. Thank you.
is it stock rom?

Using file manager you can see your files, is that it? What about ADB? Can you list the files/folders through adb shell? I suggest you 'fastboot boot customrecovery.img' and fix permissions.

Gallery issue

Ok I looked around and things weren't quite matching up to the problem i'm having.
I recently rooted my S2 and flashed Revolt JB rom which I absolutely love.
But I cannot go into my gallery, when I do it loads a bit, then it freezes and my phone reboots, while every other person with the gallery issues it just goes to the home screen.
I tried removing DCIM folders from internal and SD
Tried removing the SD completely
Tried clearing cache and data on gallery app
I really really don't want to revert back to stock and unroot, so please help me with this problem.
have you tried a different gallery app, also try moving all your pictures /data/files etc anything you want backed up and then format your sd card and then transfer everything back see if it helps ?
I tried a different gallery app, but i'm going to try and remove all the data/files
I just noticed I tried removing the SD card completely, the issue isn't the sd card, so is there any data files in my internal storage I can move without there being any issues?
Actually the "gallery issue" does reboot phones.
Your sd card is out, so that's good....but you also need to transfer off your phone and delete every video and pic you have on your internal sd storage and the issue should be gone. Maybe you have a video on there that you've missed???
And you definitely are using twrp 2.6.1.0 right?
Good luck!

remote wipe & custom recovery

So I have always wondered what happens when you remote wipe a phone from like Android Device Manager and if you have a custom recovery like TWRP. I tried the wipe on my M8 and it for sure worked, but since TWRP was installed it left all the data ion the SD Card. Is there anyway to force TWRP to do a full factory reset by default rather than just removing apps etc?
If not I may just have to install the stock recovery, if I can find it for my Bell M8.

that won't wok if the phone is not in my hands.
make a back up and try it out and let us know ! lol
already did, wiped from device manager and it wiped the phone but left the SD card intact. This is a major oversight for custom recovery because same applies on my N7. Send a remote wipe to the phone, your actually just giving your data away because now they can access your SD card since you wiped it remotely but it didn't wipe the SD card.
Wonder if encrypting the SD Card and then wiping will resolve this? The data should be useless after remote wiping and will need the advanced wipe from TWRP to bring the SD card back to life.
I use an app called Cerberus that can remotely wipe the SD card. It also has a bunch of other features for remotely controlling phones.
Been a happy user for several years. Never needed the remote wipe, but I have used the location and other features.

It doesn't have a wipe on failures, but it does take a picture and email you after X failures.
It can also be setup to notify you if a different SIM is inserted.
I also like that is can be controlled via a client app, the web or texts from any phone (with a password).
I like that it has an update.zip installer that survives factory resets. Few thieves will know/think to flash a new ROM.
Edit: Geez, I sound like a shill. Just a very happy user. I think I found it on XDA originally.
