Ok... people are complaining about TouchWiz on ICS, or posting methods of disabling it...
How about removing it?
Its easy. Most of the ICS roms out there are pre-rooted. So just go to the market and download root uninstall. Go to system in root uninstall, go down to TWLauncher, and uninstall it. Bam, Ice Cream Sandwich Launcher for you. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
I popped off TouchWiz and all the trash bloatware in about 30 seconds, rebooted the phone, and it runs awesome.
TW is not just a launcher. Its implemented heavily into the rom.
Is this similar to going to Settings/Applications/Scroll to TWLauncher and Clear Defaults/Press Home key and selecting Launcher?

Yes and no. It removes the TW launcher, with kills some background process that run if you just disable it.

Yeah. But is it better than that pushing the launcher to the back and ignoring it?
i dont really mind TW i think its pretty cool. some widgets are pretty cool too.
And when i say TW i mean TW4. but hey. nova and trebuchet launchers pretty beast
I read that TouchWiz was somewhat hardware accelerated pre-ICS, is this true?
When ICS fully ports over to our GSII's will it be 100% hardware accelerated?? Does anybody know?
Am very curious because I've tried other launchers and they dont feel as fast as TW.

Yes, it is better. But its still not the same as Vanilla ICS, like you said in the OP.

All you really did was remove the TouchWiz Launcher, but in reality TouchWiz is injected throughout the whole system and there really is no true way to get rid of it as it has it's own twframework-res.apk. Most of the apps that appear to be AOSP and theme'd TouchWiz aren't so, they are TouchWiz apps and most can be replaced with AOSP apps.
We have a nice theme that does most of this for you.
Posted thus same comment in the post your screens earlier today or yesterday I am glad to see other people know about this easy fix

I agree. It was locking up a lot on EF02 but I haven't had a single lockup on EG22 and I have been using it since day one. The biggest thing I love is auto sorting apps in the app drawer.

Yeah, on EF02 and EE03 my phone always locked up and I had to pull the battery.
EG22 is amazing. Maybe it has something to do with it being 2.3.4, idk, but it works beautifully now and I'm happy.

Idk about the widgets, but in case someone sees this, here is a zip with tw4. If it doesnt work in cwm, remove the twlauncher from system/app, and put this one in, then reboot. I saved this one in my dropbox, cause this one works perfectly.

TW launcher appears to be the only launcher natively using gpu acceleration on E4GT. Please don't remove it by default.
That means more battery drain and less smoothness with custom launchers compared to TW.
Thanks.
Do a titanium backup before flashing rom and restore twlauncher or use root explorer to copy apk to sd card so u can install when flashing new rom.
Fyi i use launcher pro with no lag or battery drain issues.

I'm having a real hard time noticing TW being any smoother than LP and even ADW and Launcher7. GoLauncher is a little rough in spots, the same for QQLauncher...but they always were.
Though battery drain is a realistic concern...I think I'm going to put it back in and try that for a few days and see if I notice a difference. Battery-life above almost all else...even smoothness...so long as it is a noticeable increase.
I actually like TW 4.0. I used to be a Launcher Pro fan, and even bought the full version. But with TW4, I don't feel the need to use LP anymore.
I was always a tw launcher fan
Even if a dev removes it ill put it back in

I notice no difference between TW launcher and ADW EX.
Well, except ADW looks better.
Removing the TW launcher prevents some processes from running. At least that was the case with the OG Epic. This actually saved on battery life.
If you want smooth try SPB Shell 3D. They don't come any smoother than that.
TW Launcher is very easy to add back, if you really like it that much.

After using adw ex, I can't see myself using anything else, lol. adw ex is THE BEST. Screen transitions alone are worth it. And the fact that you can speed up the screen transitions--it's feature packed and awesome.

Fairly sure the claim of TW being HW accelerated is well known to be true, the stock browser is too.

I just flashed salvage-mod 1.4 the other day and I extremely love this rom but I have a few issues with it such as the black messaging (i like white) and there is no silent state for the volume..
So what I really love about this rom is the launcher it has. Its the AOSP GB Launcher with settings to where you can change the number of screens (i prefer just 3) and has the 3D drawer and it runs so smooth and flawlessly.
I really want this launcher, but to be able to put it on CM7. I love CM7 but i dont like the adw launcher at all or any other launcher in the market. ADW Ex is great but the quality isnt great compared to the AOSP Launcher...
My question is... is there a way to get salvage-mod's launcher on to CM7? Like an apk? Or any other close alternative?
Or if someone could help me with the black messaging and silent state
Thanks!
I could be wrong but I believe that is the stock gingerbread launcher that comes with salvage mod. I think you can get it from the market. It could be Launcher Pro also. I prefer GO Launcher on AOSP roms for it's customization characteristics. ADW is good if you but the paid version. I don't know if there is a dark and light theme for the messaging app. If not you would have to theme it yourself or look in the themes section to see if someone else has already done it.

Just saying that it should be in the market. You said you really want that launcher on CM7. Look up gingerbread launcher or try GO Launcher. It has lots of options from number of screens to animations and many themes. Just trying to help.
Oh yes, sorry but all the GB launchers in the market dont have the options that the savage launcher has.

I'm sure those customizations are built into the framework. You're not likely going to find it for CM7. You can check the Themes and Apps section for the gingerbread launcher. There may be a modified version there. Kinda doubt it. Sorry
You can try using titanium backup back up the launcher and restore it to cm7 if the launcher apk was modified it will work if its a framework mod it wont work properly but its worth a shot

Not sure if it'll help at all, but I've done a similar thing with ICS when I wanted to use the Trebuchet Launcher instead of the source ics launcher. I extracted the Launcher2.apk from within the zip of the rom, and used it as a replacement in the exisiting rom. Just a matter of messing with the files within the flashable zip. Not sure if this will help you but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Was waiting to see someone say that, next suggestion will be to use Apex, Nova or any of the new launchers. Unless one of them very recently added it back in somehow, none of these suggestion will work anymore. At first the initial removal of the feature was still working using Wallpaper Wizardry. Somewhere along the lines they got rid of it altogether. Even using Apex/Nova and setting a scrolling wallpaper through WW did nothing.
