OK guys so my Galaxy Nexus runs fine for the most part but the browsing is horrendous at times.
I go to nytimes.com and I pinch to zoom and there's a few seconds before it does anything. The same thing happened when I tried to scroll down. This happens on multiple sites.
I used both the stock browser and Chrome with similar results. The rom and kernel I'm using are shown in the picture I attached.
Is there any fix for this? So far the GSII browser kills both the GN browser and Chrome browser, it's not even close.

Which sites specifically? My browser is very smooth on %95 of sites, but certain ones give these problems. Its somewhat rare.
nytimes.com defaults to a mobile site. So I requested the desktop site, and its buttery smooth on zooming in and out with pinch.
Go go this site and zoom in and out a few times. Wait for the site to fully load then try it again but have one finger one the picture. That site and others give me problems sometimes.

That site scrolls very smooth for me. The pinch zoom did give a hiccup stutter though, but not too bad. I can see something is not right though, a chunk of text kept jumping around. Rendering problem maybe. But its definitely acceptable to me in terms of scrolling the page for reading, very smooth. I rarely use pinch zoom though. I always double tap instead.
OK thanks guys. Maybe some sites aren't coded well or something
Now if Google could only fix the Gallery problem lol. When you transfer your pictures over they get organized in a weird way instead of in alphabetical order and then the images within the folders are out of order.
I know I can download an app but I like the stock gallery browser.

Basically, with "Auto-fit pages" option turned OFF web pages look fine, but text paragraphs are too wide to read. I need to zoom out manually using two fingers, but then text becomes too small.
With "Auto-fit pages" turned ON, I can read the paragraphs but web pages look really ugly (see the linked image above for examples) or the entire paragraphs become broken (ugly divided etc.).
Is there anything I can do about this?
It seems the browser no longer reflows text after double-tapping to zoom, like it did in Gingerbread. :/
Try to pinch to zoom first then double tap to reflow text...

If I first zoom (by pinching) and then double tap, it gets me back to the overview view.
Ics doesn't reflow text like previous versions of android,
It's very weird I know

is there any way to fix this problem ?
It's annoying but the way I make the browser reflow is to zoom in so the width of the text is wider than the screen then double tap the text and it will reflow. It doesn't seem to work if the text width is narrower than the screen, double tapping at this stage will just take you back to the overview.

I'm on 4.0.3 with Maguro build 13 AOKP and it DOES reflow text! Just pinch to zoom then double tab and it magically reflows, its awesome and rapes iOS web browsing

It's the worse site i use when on a phone. BY FAR.
Ad central, videos that launch by themselves. slow.
And that blank white page that keeps popping up.

For those who use Skype, they have updated their application to support tablets. Oh and Microsoft ID. iPad mini has nothing on the Nexus 7 now! Mwahaha
In all seriousness, this is pretty big. With the adoption of tablet optimised apps from companies like Skype and Tapatalk things are going to change. We're still waiting for Twitter and Facebook to get their arse in gear but Apples claim to fame will soon be invalid. I honestly thought Microsoft was going to ignore the Android tablet market in hope to push their Surface. Obviously not.
Screenies;

I do like the update but landscape only annoys me. The camera isn't in an ideal spot for landscape any its awkward to hold for a call in landscape. It needs to function in both views.

Though the point the OP makes is valid, our tablets have a camera mounted for portrait mode video chat. The update to Skype locks the app to landscape. Not cool..

I did find this to be an issue, so I downloaded the ultimate rotation app and what do'ya'know;
It's not ideal, an I'm sure they'll fix it soon considering the bad reception landscape only has got, but this is a good temporary solution.
My main point is people are finally adopting the android tablet and I'm certain there will be more to follow.

Anyone having issues with slow sign on? Mine takes over a minute to sign on?
Can't sing in at all. Noticed it few hours ago..

Sign in works fine for me, as does everything else. Hate the only landscape mode, though. Leaves the camera in an awkward position.
I use the modded skype.apk by theo0s*
Using the ultimate rotation app is also a smart way to rotate it, I would love this to be included at paranoid android

Umm....which fonts? Which sizes?
most threads.
I wish I could post a link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1945582
here is an example.
the first two are small, and the third is GOOD! (at least from my Note 2 screen)
I find myself constantly having to zoom in and out & scrolling to read it all.
It would be so much easier to read if it was all the same size.
Thanks for listening.

Pretty sure that's down to your browser not the site. Chrome does this for me but Dolphin doesn't ( an older version of dolphin BTW).

Or theme maybe? This is on desktop, both Chrome and Firefox. The 2013-1024 theme has weird fonts for the menus and also the items under the Quick Links is a little off layout (not in screenshot, can get you one if needed).
Thanks!
I'm using Firefox. I'll try a different one.

Wow I know this is pretty old now but it was a life saver.
The 2013 theme is terrible for chrome android. The font sizes are really messed up. Half of them are too tiny to read. Im surprised this isnt a bigger issue for people.
I spent the last two days testing other browsers trying to find something I like to solve this problem because most browsers work fine with 2013 theme
Theres just no other browser that doesnt fail in some area for me. So finding that changing to 2010 fixes the font size issue is fantastic.
...
What would be even better is if XDA could fix their site to work with chrome because the 2013 definitely looks better overall. In the meantime however. YAY! thanks
Hello,
Has anyone tried the Android 4.4 KitKat Launcher released for Nexus 5 on their Note 8.0?
"To install the new launcher (Google Home), you’ll have to install 3 different apps – Google Play Services 4.0, Google Search, and the Google Home .apk. "
If so, is it working ok? how's the performance with the new launcher?
Thanks for your help :good:
I'm currently using the launcher as my daily driver, and aside from a couple bugs (app drawer seems crowded, and the keyboard pops up randomly upon returning to home), it runs rather well. I'm enjoying this psuedo-Kitkat UI!

Wrong section..sorry..
The launcher runs fine. and looks ok,
I have gotten too used to touchwiz to like anything else,
however, this can also be used as an app i.e hitting back button does not close it.In that way it provides most of its functionality on demand and serves good for hands-free operation when needed, though s-voice did that kinda similar too.
App Drawer does not have any menus or settings so nothing much to write home about there, other than it's obviously different.
I have it set up minimally for reading stuff only (news and books) and here are screen shots.
