Google Wallet SE Vaccine? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Is it possible to reset the Google Wallet app and then wipe data, thereby allowing me to flash a new rom without getting the Secure Element error?
I'd rather ask about it before doing it. I'm running the 4.0.3 "minor add-ins" rom currently.

i switched from gummy to AOKP
(i love both roms but i also have a slight addiction to flashing new ones)
i opened up wallet and reset it, backed it up with titanium backup and did a nandroid
then i deleted wallet via titanium backup and flashed a new rom,
theres a good post about it ill see if i can find it

EDIT: research seems to show that Android is not actually enabling NFC-EE, which might be why it can't communicate with the SE. This needs further research.
To try to avoid this, before flashing a new ROM please, please, PLEASE: open Google Wallet. Open the Wallet Settings menu. Select "Reset Google Wallet" from within the app. THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS SELECTING "CLEAR DATA" FROM WITHIN MANAGE APPS!
The Google Wallet reset system will disable it's background services, reset the secure element by deleting the Google Wallet applet (which is what you want!), clear the database, ping C2DM that it is now deprovisioning, clear the shared preferences, clear files and cache, and finally shut itself down. Clearing data from Manage Apps will only delete the database and shared preferences: it will not deprovision, disable background services, and most importantly will not remove the Wallet applet from the secure element.

one last edit lol,
when i went to a vendor to try and purchase something with Google wallet it did not work the first time, after some research and thinking i narrowed it down to the green LED light on top of the machine not on, so i figured that one was out of service or something
hope this helps!

Thanks! I will look into it.

Also, on Verizon, I can access Google Wallet via the Market so I don't need to worry about reinstalling it. However, to get things straight, I will reset the app from the in-app settings, then when it closes I will just make a cwm backup as per usual and then do a wipe/new rom install?

Yup that's exactly what I did and it worked for me

Google Backup? Wow...

So I enabled this on CM6 not too long ago, I recently wiped and updated to the latest version of it, and low and behold all my applications started getting installed from the Market on their own... How does this work, and is my data going to be there as well?
I do not believe it restores data
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
It only restore the Market-downloadable applications. Your data (unless on an SD card) will not be restored.
Yea, no data was restored... kinda crappy... oh well, better than nothing.

TI Backup is much better and much more versatile. Worth the money.
You just sparked my interest. What are you talking about? I've googled it but haven't found anything yet. Searched in market too.

Titanium Backup:
http://matrixrewriter.com/android/
HOWEVER, must have root.
MUST.
Your adventure may just be beginning.
What Google Backup are you talking about?
Oh. If that's what you're talking about then I'll pass.
Google backup restores wifi profiles too.
But I love titanium and did purchase the full version.
Swyped on my EVO
I use Titanium Backup because it backs up my settings, apps, data, preferences, WiFi networks, Bluetooth pairings, Cyanogenmod Settings, etc.
Really, all I do after a wipe is to skip to the home screen, open market, add my Google Account, download Titanium Backup, and go to Menu>Batch>Restore everything
It's a Google backup feature...enabled in cm roms only...it's actually quite nice if you are flashing roms everyday
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Is there anyway to get rid of the backup feature, it's pretty pointless without data and I'd rather restore my apps with Titanium...
I just wiped and reflashed and when it asked if I wanted to use Google backup, I unchecked the box, but it started downloading everything anyway...
Nevermind, I found it...
So as far as I understand it, this is part of the ASOP. So way did htc/sprint take it out?

Any body able to get an apk, to enable this on non cm roms?

Titanium is awesome and worth every penny for the paid version if you switch roms frequently. If you don't mind a little extra button mashing the free version works well.
It saves data and the version of the app your backing up. Which is really useful if you don't want the updated version of any particular app.

Trouble with Android Market Downloads 5/31/11?

I've been having trouble with Android Market today. I can communicate with the market just fine, but nothing downloads. It either doesn't start or gets stuck a "Starting Download." Is anyone else seeing this?
I'm not having any problems installing from Amazon's App store. I even installed the Plant's Vs. Zombies freebie this morning, even though it didn't work (didn't expect it too).

I don't really know what the 'usual' way to clear the market cache is. It's not in the list of apps you can clear under Manage Applications. I'm a newbie at this, so what I don't know about Android is a lot bigger than what I do.
How do you clear the cache for the market? I couldn't see any way to do it except using an app like Cache Clean.

Just like you'd clear any other application's cache/data - in Manage Applications under Settings -> Applications...
Notice the tabs at the top. If you only stay in the 'Downloaded' tab, you'll obviously never see the Market as that wasn't downloaded...

Hrm. I hate to use this as a troubleshooting step, but have you tried a new data.img?
You can try renaming the old one if you want to be able to revert to it...
There's a fix_permissions script that is supposed to circumvent the need for a new data.img, not sure if it'll help you in this case or not.
I went back to an earlier copy of data.img and the market worked. So, after spending hours goggling and trying every crazy, random thing people claimed worked, I ended up redoing my phone. I copied everything off the SD card, formatted it, and installed a fresh copy of FRX06. The market works again.
I got wireless working, installed some essential files, and backed up everything to my desktop. I'll back it up every couple of days for a while so if the market goes South again, I'll have a quick fallback.
Thanks for all your help.
glad you have it working
Just a question, did u try and use Update All button in marketplace? Usually that always bugs out the downloader and causes them to get "stuck". Just Cancel all downloads and do manually one by one imo

I might have. But I did just what you said. I cancelled all of them and retried them one at a time, and did it over and over again many times after trying different "this works" ideas.
I had this same issue and am still having it.
I'll give this a try as well... started a few days ago when my zeam FC looped on me and I had to reinstall Froyo since I had no way of reverting to another launcher.
Thanks!
The only thing that worked for me was completely reloading the FRX06 build from scratch.
I've seen various people reporting this issue lately.

can you provide info on how to do this please?
most likely he uses titanium backup (which i believe everyone does, or should).
It can saves previous versions of all app's and you can easily reinstall them to old version.
I've been reading a lot about market problems lately and i think its due to their end mostly, not ours since there are so many with issues. I hope it just "works" again soon =)
I do use Titanium backup and bought the pro version a while back to support the developer. For me, it is one of those "must have" programs, particular with the constantly changing state of xdandroid development going on here.

[Q] Backing up (Merged) Contacts

I appologize upfront if this is a n00b question but something is anoying me big time.
I like flashing ROMs and occasionally do a fresh and clean install. I have backed up everything using Titanium Pro and Nandroid but I tend to leave them alone since everything can be freshly installed and what's the use of a clean install if you then restore everything right?
Now for my contacts I sync with 2 Google accounts, FB, Twitter, Linked-In, Skype, Whatsapp and some more less famous stuff. Everytime I do a clean install I have contacts double in my persons app and I have to manually merge them.
This is costing me a lot of time. Is there a way to backup these contacts "merged" and restore them, without loss of the sync mechanism with those accounts? Or is there at least a way to let the merge take place somehow automatically?
The best way to do it would be to EASY merge the contacts, like HTC Sense shows you duplicates and you can just one-click-merge, but since I have found no information whatsoever on this being a possibility on ICS, I guess you can try to use TB to do that.
When you flash a new ROM, guessing its some updated version of ICS, you can try to restore DATA only to the People app after actually making sure that all your accounts are added. So just before starting to manually merge them, go to TB and restore DATA only from your most recent backup from the earlier ROM.
Haven't tried that, but will do once I flash a new one. Running 4.0.3 TEAM KANG AOKP now!

I thought about that too but what I'm afraid of (although start over with a clean install would solve that too) is that all my contacts (hundreds) would show up double, making it even worse. One from synch and one from restore ;-) But.., certainly worth a try the next flash....
Have you found a solution?

Nope, sorry, merging them every single time I do a clean install. But since I am using my current ROM for quite some time now (stable and fast) I don't have the need for clean flashing. A dirty flash is sufficient.

Yes they are, but somehow I still get random contacts that aren't merged after synching. It is not reproducible since the results are not consistent. I guess it is somewhere on my side but after a clean install which I do once a month at most it rakes half an hour to merge the ones that went wrong so it's not worth the effort for me to deep dive this one

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this only UPDATES installed apps without user intervention, doesn't actually install an app after a restore correct.. if you've restored how does it know which apps to install?

I've never seen a local backup that will do anything more than install a specific version of an app. I want the market app this is up to date and for my current OS. Also I want them to keep receiving updates. If I backed up my apps on 2.3.3 GB Inspire 4G they wouldn't do me much good on ICS GSIII. For that matter some of my ICS apps may trip up JB. I wish I could go on google play, put checkmarks next to the apps I want and have play load them. I hate going through 3 or four screens to install each app. It's as annoying as User Access Control on Win Vista/7.
Sorry but I'm a noon but is there a tutorial on how to use titanium backup to restore multiple apps?

I'd like to know this too. I used to own the sgs2 and it would piss me off to have to pick and choose my old apps again. But sometimes Google play would do it automatically for me.
Now when using the SGS3 with cm10, it's been pretty good at automatically re downloading my apps. I just need to make sure it stays that way, but I don't know how.

Google Sync picks up most apps for you. Off course you need to have Google Sync enabled.
As far as data and other complete backup of apps and new versions of the apps you should purchase TiBu. Titanium Backup a must have for Android users.
If the ROM you flash has the option to "restore from Google" while entering your Google login during initial setup of the ROM, then all your apps will be restored.
If you don't get that option, then they won't be restored.
There is no secret setting in Google Play to get the apps to auto-install after the fact.

I even tried to delete the app using titanium backup with the hope of reinstalling it, but TB could not delete it because it couldn't find the apk. Is it because it's a system file and it resides somewhere else that TB is not looking?
Might be. I try not to use Titanium Backup as it's had issues with reliability, especially with the newest releases of Android. Did you back it up before uninstalling? If so, there should be some place on your phone it's stored. Maybe try looking at where Titanium Backup stores backups

I was not able to uninstall it since TB couldn't locate the apk. TB has a way to force-remove a system app using a built-in exploit, but I didn't want to experiment with that.
I wonder if I can navigate to a directory and simply remove the apk. I will search that option.
Oh, I understand what you're saying now. Yeah, not too sure about that, but hopefully OnePlus can help
An update. And a new year
OP tech support told me to factory reset the device, which makes me cringe, sort of. I'm rooted and this is my daily phone, so I don't want to mess with that.
I clarify that my calendar event reminders work fine. It is the REMINDERS subfuction within the calendar app that do not remind at all.
I have found that if you have past reminders that aren't marked "done", it can stop future ones from triggering

Thank you Sam and that's an excellent point. Reminders not marked as "done" continue to roll on in the calendar to present day.
I checked and went as far back as January of 2021, and all of mine are marked as done.
