I keep getting this message popping up "The application Open Sense Plugin Manager (process com.htc.opensense.pluginmanager) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Then it makes me "force close." I do not receive new text messages or emails at all! Also, none of my settings save. I can't use my alarm or my new voicemails do not show up. I am very confused. My phone is rooted and has been for some time with no issue. If anyone can help I know XDA can?
Are you on a custom rom at all?
Either way, sounds like a software issue, which a factory reset should most definitely clear up.
Yes I am using Konies Elite and have been for 9 months or so with no issues. I dont think its the rom but rather the phone im not quite sure. If I do a factory reset will I lose my root and all my current apps and settings?
Hey,
Yeah just back up any data *text and what ever else you need* and do a factory reset and it should fix your issue.
If you are rooted try wiping cache data and dalvik and reboot the rom and your issue should be fixed! If not try a new rom
I hope I helped if I did please hit the thanks button,
Stevo

You can also boot into recovery/advanced/fix permissions, that should work, try that before erasing everything.

If it was a hardware issue, you would have more problems than just Sense closing. That is a software issue for sure. Since you are rooted, you dont have to do a factory reset, just re-flash the rom from recovery. Be sure to fully wipe data/cache/dalvik first to ensure everything gets installed correctly. You will not lose root, but you will lose apps, which can be backed up and restored with Titanium Backup
Just wipe cache and dalvik and flash the rom over itself you will keep your apps and data but it will reinstall all the stock apps and data from the rom so if you accidently removed something or something corrupted it will be replaced/repaired

Hey,
Starting today, whenever I open the Market application, its window appears and immediately disappears. It doesn't say anything about a force close - just disappears.
I tried connecting to Wifi and disconnecting from Wifi.
Connecting to mobile internet and disconnecting from it.
Shutting down the phone multiple times.
Doing it will charging and while not charging.
Nothing works.
It keeps happening.
Ideas, anyone?
try wiping cache from recovery
Same problem here how do you wipe the cache can see how to do it with internet but not other cache

what do you mean by "from recovery"?
i tried doing Settings --> Applications --> Manage applications --> Market -> Clear cache
cache has been cleared, Market still closes as soon as I open it...
any other ideas?
Sounds like a screwed packages.xml (in /data/system) - I had this issue as well. Do you have root? Then you could try to use Titanium Backup to fix it or you have to delete it.
no root

no, i don't have root...
i was thinking of doing it though, regardless of this issue...
can you answer a couple of questions about that for me? (kinda off-topic but i might just go ahead and root the device and then follow your advice)
1. if i root - can i still do a "factory reset" and get the phone to how it was when i first got it?
2. if HTC pushes updates after i've rooted the phone, can i install them? and if i then do factory reset, what would happen?
3. this one is pure curiosity - if i DON'T root the phone, and install some update pushed by HTC, and then do a factory reset - will i get to the pre-update or post-update condition?
thanks!
!!!
i have same problem here,
frist i thought it was software err...
flash a different rom...
still cant connect to google...
I was trying out various TTS engines from the market, and when I went to uninstall one of them as soon as I pressed the uninstall button, it exited to the home screen. Now when I try to access the settings I get "The linked program is no longer installed on your phone"
Is there a way I can get another copy of the settings app? I really dont want to do a factory reset. My phone is rooted.
What ROM are you running? The only one I've ever had that problem with is the stock RUU's. Only way I know how to fix it is either flash a different ROM or do a full wipe from the bootloader.
I am unrooted stock, and I had a run of about a week, when I first got the phone, of bootloops, force closes, and missing system apps. One time, google core services disappeared. Two factory resets later, I have no issues at all. It's been about a month since then.
I am using the stock ROM. I really want to try and avoid the factory reset if possible though

To avoid a reset you could root and put a stock Rom on there

The stock ROM seems to have issues with apps disappearing. I had that same issue, but with my alarm not working.
I'd recommend two things.
1. Only doing a factory reset will fix the issue. You will lose your data, there's no way around that.
2. Root your phone and install RMK's debloated ROM. You will still lose your data but you can do much more with your phone.

If he backs up stuff before, like right after root. He could keep his stuff. It's what I did

This isn't the first time something like this has happened. If it's common with the stock ROM then I will just use a different ROM and hopefully avoid the issue happening again.
When I try to mass text more than two contacts my phone freezes, I would select contacts that I want to message and then try to type my message the screen goes black, but the notification bar remains. Can't do anything so I have to just hold down the power button to restart phone. Tried typing message first and then select my contacts, but I still get the same problem. This doesn't happen when texting one or two people. Did a factory reset but the problem still persist. What could possibly be the problem and is there a fix? Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. I'm rooted and using stock Touchwiz with CWM recovery.
Clear cache for the messages app and try again. Is this a recurring problem or has it come up only recently?

I have never been able to mass text, so it's a recurring problem. How would I go about to clearing my cache for my message app, I'm using the stock app. Sorry, I don't know much about this, I'm new to rooting and smartphones in general.

Huh. You couldnt do this even on stock (unrooted)? Because if the unrooted stock base has this issue, then all custom stock roms will too...you can try making a nandroid and flashing another custom stock rom, it may just be an issue with what you're on
And no problem, everyone was new to this at one point
To clear an apps cache, you go to Settings > Applications > All apps tab, select the app you want, then wait for the app info page to load and tap the "Clear cache" button

Thanks, went to clear my cache, there wasn't anything to clear. I think I couldn't do this even on unrooted stock, I don't really remember. I've already made a backup before doing the factory reset, which I've now restored and currently using. I'll probably try to flash another rom to see if the problem exist on them as well.
Hey everyone. I am relatively new to the Android world, especially in terms of rooting and installing custom firmware. I've been running off of nightly builds of CM10.1 for about a month now, and my Google contacts were not syncing the entire time, even though everything else was working fine. On another forum, a user had suggested deleting the "com.android.providers.settings" folder within the data/data directory and then rebooting the phone. This not only didn't fix the problem, but my device is now barely usable. The home button, notifications, lockscreen, quick settings panel, and who knows what else no longer works. Cyanogenmod wouldn't even find an update when searching manually, and I was unable to mount the device to my PC. I was able to re-download a nightly build and upload it to my cloud service and install it from there, but the device is still crippled.
Please feel free to criticize me for being an idiot and not being more cautious before deleting a system folder, but after, any advice as to how repair my device would be greatly appreciated. Outside of what I have done, I am absolutely clueless. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to help me before I do something else to mess it up even further.
i'm assuming you did a full wipe or at least wiped data and both caches when you flashed the update?

I did not, nor did I reinstall the Google Apps package. I was going to that next if I did not receive other instruction on here.
Would you recommend I do that now?

if you dont have a backup to restore, you're going to have to boot into recovery and wipe data, cache & dalvik and flash a rom/gapps.
you can play around with trying to fix this all you want but you'll likely end up doing this reset/reflash in the end.

Hi,
posting here because I think most experts are arround on this board.
I have the problem that my S3 keeps crashing randomly. I don't know what is causing the crash. Its happening when I open the Chrome browser while some page is loading. Sometimes its crashing when I open Hangouts or WhatsApp. Some times its even crashing when I navigate through the phone settings...
I had the feeling that this started happening since Samsung / T-Mobile rolled out Android 4.3 to my device. So I did a upgrade of the firmware from 4.2 to 4.3. Because I had this feeling that my provider f**** things up and my phone started to crash because of this upgrade I flashed the custom rom Cyanogen Mod to my Device. This has not solved my problem
So at the moment I am running the S3 with Android 4.4.2 cyanogen MOD stable release.
What else can I do to locate / solve the issue? I already tryed to uninstall multiple app's without any changes.
Thanks for all your help
Do a factory Reset. Then do not restore any apps. Leave it be. See if it is stable.
If that does not help, then go to recovery, wipe, data, Dalvik & Cache. Re-Flash CM. Do not restore anything.

Before factory Reset, turn off Android Backup in Settings > Backup.
