(Solved) Headphones with mic - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So coming from from Sony Ericsson x10 previously and having only used the stock earphones supplied with my galaxy nexus I have a question I was hoping someone may be able to answer.
On my x10 Sony used some kind of non standard 3.5mm jack for headphones and it had this issue where certain headphones would not play music properly unless the mic button was presed or other wise perminently held into the pressed position, something to do with rings on the 3.5mm jack. Headphones advertised for iPhones or blackberry would not work unless the mic button was pressed perminatly but if the button was pressed then audio play back would be fine.
So my question is does anyone know if this issue is present or not on galaxy nexus?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk

Yeah I have the same prob with my Xperia mini headphones,if the mic button is pressed they work good,if not they sound like a bad FM station but with my big jvc PC headphones it sounds great. I think its something software related or maybe the wires are different.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus

The nexus supports the mobile headset standard which includes mic and single button. So any set like bose MIE2 will work. But i bet your sony headset will give the same problem then...

Arc Earphones

Just wondering if the in ear headset that comes with the phone is any good?
It looked plain in the unboxing videos, so what's the sound like?
Could someone take a close up picture of theirs or link me to the exact headset?
Thanks
Compared to other out of the box headsets its one of the best ive had, decent bass, crisp. All the SE phones ive had have always come with a decent headset. I can only use the type that push into your ears so that was another plus.
Does it have a remote for changing songs and stuff or is it only a mic?
A link to the headset would be appreciated
No controls, thats the downside to it. Only a mic and call answer button. I use my liveview as the controls though
Yeah I wanted to get liveview since there's no control.
Is it worth it? Any downsides to liveview?
I'd only use it for changing songs, messages and incoming calls. What you reckon?

it allows you to 2 presses to skip track , 3 presses to go back etc.
long press to increase volume
Swap my mm70 earbuds with the arc stock with a bit of soldering. Check out youtube.
Now i am happy with the headphone

I've tried my beats with controltalk with this phone and the sound is all garbled up.
Anyone else experience that with other headsets?
The ones that come stock are ok. but I miss my ability to control songs (fast forward, rewind, volume up/down) that I had with my iPhone 4.

I've heard of a few people who complain of garbled sound with non SE headphones in Arc/Play.
I have been using beats dr dre tour on my Play with out an issue though. Seems very hit or miss on if they work or not.

That's really an awesome app. Works brilliant. I think you have to buy it, though. At least it started annoying me with some "your trial has expired" messages.
Stock earphones are quite good, though they look/feel really cheap. ^^
They look pretty much like SE MH710 on the pictures, but I'm not sure if they are the same.
The arc stupidly reverse the ground and mic wiring thats why other headsets dont work on it. Try to hold the mic button down you will get nice sound.

Just tried that and you are right! How the heck do we fix that?
Is there something I can buy or a software hack that can fix it?

Wow! So THIS is why I haven't been able to use other headsets! That is very sneaky of SE.. I hope this is a software issue rather than intentional to force users to only buy SE headsets
My old Android phone also had this problem so I do not think it is a SE issue...
(Motorola Backflip)
It seems with the 2.3.3 update they don't even let you use these "incompatible" headsets, it just displays "Accessory not supported".
I used samsung and motorola headsets with no problem.

there HAS to be a fix for this! i cant stand the headset that comes with it, i hate those in ear noise cancelling things, make my ears feel weird! lol
but seriously, im having to use a normal pair of earphones with no control because of this issue, i have a liveview for controls but thats not always practical (dissconection issues/battery life/running the risk of smashing it to pieces when im skating!)
i have a set of iphone headphones i really wanted to use but because of this ****ty issue i cant. is there a way we could easily modify the headset and reverse the wiring in them ourselves?
We can use normal earphones ? If so, I'm not overly concerned.

Yes anything with a regular 2 channel 3.5mm Jack (headphones/speakers) work fine. I would have taken the phone back if this problem effected normal jacks too as I plug my phone into car stereos and portable speakers, but I'm still pissed off I can't use anything with an inline remote

Why don't you use stereo bluetooth hedset MW600. 3.5 mm jack on them is compatible with all wired headphones unlike 3.5 mm jack on arc and portable speakers.

Wired Headset

I brought the AT&T version of the Glide and it didn't come with a wired headset. I've tried a headset for a Galaxy S, but the buttons didn't work. Could anyone with the Rogers headset ( I think it comes with one) share the model number, or if anyone else has a working let me know where I can source one?
Thanks!
I have the headset in my hand that you are mentioning but I do not see any model number anywhere to help you out. All I see is a Samsung logo on each ear piece as well as a Large L or R. On the Wire where it splits from 1 to 2 wires (1 for each ear) there is a small Made in China written on it. No other writing can be seen.
Damn, thanks anyway

Interesting I did not know that the PLAY and Forward/Revers works from a Wired headset. That is good to know.
Thanks.
I bought these Samsung earbuds and use them along with Jays Headset Control from the Play store. Thanks to the app the one answer button can handle all music controls and even initiate voice actions.
Here are some from Samsung:
http://www.shopandroid.com/samsung-ehs60-35mm-stereo-headset/11A29A9345.htm
Didn't tried them, but since they're said to be made for the Captivate Glide, they should work.
Finally got around to grabbing the HTC ones and they're working fine. Audio quality is half decent too.
Desire headset isn't working on calls for me. I hear fine but the other side says the sound is terrible.
Hope this helps
Samsung galaxy one and newer Samsung phones use two different 3.5 mm jack
The newer jack like on gs2&3 are more standards. The remote doesn't work because on gs1 it's wired different.
As of today
Samsung
Htc
Sony (not Sony Ericsson)
Use the same Standards 3.5mm jack
So of buy a htc ear headphone it work on all 3 companies
( i don't know about other companies)
The model no of the headset that comes with captivate glide rogers is GH59-10419E.
Any mention of headset in the glide manual talks about micro USB.
(Drowning in google search results, most of which don't apply [Why do they assume if you want an adapter you want a crappy / cheap earbud headset too?]. So posting here to start from a list of those who have a glide and specific experience!)
Messages here seem to indicate that standard 3 connector, 2.5mm cordless phone headsets work. Can anyone confirm?
(I tried a friend's 3.5mm headset, got audio, but only for media not for anything else, per playing with settings / audio. It also has an additional doohickey / adapter where the headphones plug into a mic adapter, which in turn plugs into the 3.5mm jack instead of the headphones, directly - when using that not even media came through.)
(And even when audio came through, the navigator voice didn't come through, as it did not on a bluetooth headset. I can't hear the navigator across the car - how to get it to play to a headset?)
Source of a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter known to work?
Or 2.5mm to micro usb adapter?
Let alone, pc headset, 2 x 3.5mm, to micro usb adapter?
Thanks for any pointers / good search terms to known good working beasties, drowning in search results.
I need yet another crappy headset like I need ... druther just use one I already know and like and adapt it to the glide.
I'm guessing an adapter would need buttons on it for talk (and / or volume?).
I see on amazon there's a straight micro usb to 3.5mm adapter however I suspect it would be audio only (yes?), and worried that since it's a solid doohickey, not two ends separated by wire, that some end would get easily broken.
Advice, thoughts, experiences?

[Q] Some wired headsets aren't working

I was using the Klipsch S4A's (the Android version of S4i's) just fine with my S3 but realized when I switched to Shure 315s (I bought the phone adapter cable by Shure), the mic would not work, and also the phone call would still go to my phone, even with the ear set plugged in. I have quite a few ear sets lying around, so here's a results round up:
OK:
Tjays Four
Klipsch S4A
NOT OK:
Ajays Four
Shure 315 (well, the adapter cable anyways)
Kplisch S4i
ALL of these headsets worked with my S2.
Does my phone have a problem?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this.
Thanks.
Ken
I just realized my Klipsch S5i don't work with this phone, I'm bummed. So the S4a works properly, mic and everything?
coming from galaxy S , i find that samsung jacks is not universal , even some top end brands like grado , bose headphone doesnt work well
be sure to check compatibility issue before you get any headset , not all work perfectly on samsung jacks

Yes, S4A's work bit not s4i's.
Cheers
I have the same problem with my Klipsch S4i and Sennheiser mm30i, how annoying! All work fine on my HTC desire, S2 just not S3.
Thanks

Ugh, same here. My UE 600vi's worked great on my Galaxy Nexus, but now my mic doesn't work on the GS3. However, the center button still works.
I can confirm most i-Phone centric mic'd headphones (especially the ones with 3 buttons) aren't working. Myself I have a TDK EB950 that exhibits the same characteristics - works for music (the middle button only), fails at calls.
Now using a Belkin Universal mic adapter (single button) with it. Works swell no issues.
I suspect the impedence difference is messing with the part that reads the button signals.
my 600vi is a little bit different
my UE600vi works fine with galaxyS2 but not with S3.
funny thing is both earphone & mic works fine when I'm call someone.
but when i RECEIVE a call (when 600vi plugged in) , suddenly my GS3 works as if there's no earphone. (sounds and mic works from the phone, not my 600vi)
i really can't understand why,, i'm using Korean galaxyS3 though. Asked samsung about this, but the reply was "go ask logitech!!!" lol
Since the S4A earphones work, I would assume that the S4A (II)'s will work. If anyone has purchased this new revised set, I'd like to know if this is the case, I might be purchasing some soon.
I have a pair of Audiofly AF45M's that work great. However they do not have a three button remote in-line, only one button for answering calls/pausing/skipping tracks. The mic seems to work well, none of my calls have complained and the few friends I asked said my voice was clear even in noisy environments. I must say that they are the best in ear headphones that I've owned (well should say that they're the nicest pair that I've bought compared to freebies). I know this isn't a thread for IEM reviews but I only mention it because from what I read on head-fi they are a brand new company out of Australia and are making some great products.
I had a pair of Ultimate Ears 350vm's from Costco but I didn't even make any calls with them because I didn't like the sound quality compared to my Audiofly's. So I returned them, the volume slider and the push button seemed to work, but cannot comment on the microphone functionality.
Right now I'm using a pair of Brainwavz M5 (also have the M4) with mic and one button and they work perfectly fine. Also tried the Shure 215 with mic cable (again the one button version, not the iPhone one) a few weeks ago and those also worked without any problems.
There seems to be a hardware thing in the S3 which cause "Made For iPhone" headsets (most notably those with volume buttons) to not function properly...
True!
I've just tested with my Klipsch Image One and S4i. When I call someone, everything works just fine, mic and end call by the center button.
So it must be a Software issue.
Thanks,
Adler
I have the Shure E215 with the phone cable (single button), and it's worked fine, both with stock and CM10. The triple button cable is wired differently.
You're right. I also have a Beats Studio with single button and it also works fine. But since my headphones with triple buttons also work when I initiate a call it must be a software problem.

More Headset tests
First off, Thank You all, for all the helpful info! I have a set of (awesome) Skullcandy Heavy Medals, and a set of Skullcandy 50/50's, and also a set of some type of Logitech earbuds, all have 3 button mic's, None work as mic's on My Galaxy S3, They all work as headphones, but if trying to answer a call, they need to be unplugged, and plugged back in, to hear a voice, but still no mic, and they all worked on My Galaxy S2, and another S2 HD Lte, (All on Bell mobility Canada), and also worked well on My Nexus 4. The Oem samsung headset works great, including mic and volume up/down, and answer button. Also I have a set of Skullcandy Ink'd, with a single button on mic, and they work fine on S3 as well. My S3 is an Unlocked SGH-i747M originally a Rogers wireless Canada phone.
Thanks again, and I hope this helps someone! :cyclops:

bluetooth adapter for corded earphones

I have good corded earphones with integrated microphone and answer button that acts also as a playlstop button for the audio player on phone.
My question is, is there some simple bluetooth adapter that I can attach my earphones to it, and use them as wireless earphones?
I Know there are many expensive adapters with integrated microphone and controls but I already have earphones With good microphone and controls I I only need a simple adapter.
Thanks in advance.
Sony Ericsson MW600 allows you to connect your own headphones. I have it and it is great. It does have it's own mic though so not sure how it would cope with another mic on the headphones.
So that's what my question is about, because i don't want to buy it and then it won't work well with my earphones.

Xperia S Headset and MH1 compatibility

Hey,
I need a new headset for my Sony Xperia S. I dont want the cheap headset with comes with it because its to quiet and has only one button. The Sony Smart Headsets are too expensive.
I want a headset which is priced between the Sony Headsets which work (about 30€), which is a cable headset and has buttons (for accept call, play, pause, adjust volume, skip...) I would prefer one with 3 buttons.
I now recognized that only few headsets work with my phone so I need help.
I ordered a Sony MH1 because I thought it would work with my phone. Because it doesnt work I want to give it to the mother of my girlfriend. She uses the the Galaxy Gio. Will the Sony MH1 headset work with her phone?
Thank you in advance
Greetings

Maybe this isn't the kind of help that you're looking for, but here are some information about headsets:
This comes from: http://www.head-fi.org/t/632892/review-sony-mh1-the-best-kept-secret
Let’s begin by explaining two standards used in making the 3.5mm TRRS plug on headset – OMTP and CTIA (both are organizations for mobile standards). For OMTP, the TRRS plug is wired as [Left-Right-Mic-Ground] (from tip-to-sleeve); for CTIA, the TRRS is wired as [Left-Right-Ground-Mic].
Click to collapse
So, the problem is in the wiring of the plug, especially on the mic part. If the connection are reversed, the mic won't work and phone may not recognize the whole as headset.
You can try to find a sort of adapter for the headset that you like (and got).
Also, is important to notice that volume control should be referred for the headset only (apart any other volume control in the phone) due to the lack of data connection between the phone and headset itself (in most headsets the button is a short circuit of mic wires)...
My best experience is with bluetooth headset (AD2P and AVRCP for music, BT-Headset for phone calls). I can control the flow of my favourite music, at the same time of the incoming (and eventually outgoing, with voice commands) calls, with same headset, and without any wires in the middle. An example of these is: MW600S here: http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/st...10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666492655
Thank you for your answer.
I have an TRRS adapter but it doesnt work with it either.
I didnt know the facte about the volume control. This isnt too important so it is no problem.
Will the MW600s work with my Xperia S? and does the MH1 Headset work on the Samsung Galaxy Gio?
