can I update?! - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi every one ,,
I have an xperia arc rooted ,,, 4.0.2.A.0.42 , OTA update is available for me , but it seems that I can't update because I have deleted some apps which come with the phone ,, I am not sure this is the reason , it gives me a message "can't update" or something like that when the phone restarts .
is there any way to put the systems files again?! I don't want to re flash the phone and rooted again ,, or can I do that without loosing my apps and ,,, etc?
my thanks

Just put the stuff you deleted back and update.

is there a list for the important ones?! because I don't remember what I have deleted .
or any hints where to find them?
thanks for your respond any way .

You can only update if connected to a wifi network....
if you have had phone unlocked using test point or unlocked bootloader you get a bricked phone with over the air update.
It happened to Me after testpoint unlock.....so Dont use ota if unlocked
Sent from somewhere.......

OTA means only through the WIFI/3G right? He can update his firmware using SEUS or PC companion, right?

Not with unlocked bl

unfortunately you will have to flash your .42 again then do the OTA update. if you un check wipe user data in flashtool it will not erase your apps but it will reset your theme to the stock theme.
Some people have tried to put back the system apps but i don't think they have been successful.

I had to try a couple of times after flashing .42 to get the OTA to work this one is a bit picky about everything being perfect

it still not working ,,
when I flashed to .42 nothing has changed! my wallpaper my apps , not any thing , I have just lost my root access . does that mean ,,,, well I don't know
any suggestions ?
note:
I didn't see any option for whipping the user data

is there any way to make the phone as if it is brand new?!
I mean there is something wrong , I feel nothing is happening when I flash , even the wallpaper is there which is not the thing that this man said (SL_Don)!

Just relock the bootloaader and you'll be fine!!

I didn't say its unlocked! ,, I have never unlocked my bootloader before

I would recommend custom roms... Works better and has more updates...
The new version you updated to cant be rooted through easy rooting toolkit. So dont know how you should get it back

When installing 4.0.2.A.0.62 it says can not install

I have the phone rooted and when I try updating to 4.0.2.A.0.62 it just says can't install. Do I have to flash it all over again, which would mean loosing all apps?
Via OTA?
Better leave it as it is.
Update via computer will remove root.
Data remains with both methods.
Sent from my iPad 2 using Tapatalk
happened to me too! You have to flash .42 again, root before u do anything else and right after root update via OTA! ;-)
And if you don't wanna do it again next time, backup your applications right after OTA update, so you can restore it for the next OTA update (if any)
Is it not possible to unroot, and then update to 4.0.2.A.0.62 ?

Rooting the phone doesn't prevent the OTA update, messing with system apps does. (And you usually mess with system apps when rooted)

Ahh of course.. Iv'e deleted a few system apps and messed with other things (crapware)
When you put them back, you can update your firmware. When you do it OTA, you will keep your root.
Furtermore, this update won't remove any data or apps.

What should I use for backup?
Titanium backup will do, and by the way, if you find your current firmware you can try and restore one by one the bloatware you deleted or restoring any mod you have installed, I did this and I was able to update via OTA again.
It doesn't work. I flashed

Used flashtools to root right away, still says can't update.

You may consider either retrying (some people reported having to flash twice or thrice before it would work) or using another firmware, or using a different flash software (I did updated OTA after flashing .42 with wotanclient).
I experience this. What I did I reflash with rootable firmware then root with flashtool without removing any app then I directly update OTA. Then I successfully install.

I have similar problem and now I have a rooted .62 NAM firmware.
What I did is the following:
Flash your phone to .42 firmware with flashtools
Update your phone to .62 with PC companion
Re-flash your phone back to .42 with flashtools
Root your phone with flashtools
Update your phone to .62 with OTA
No need for step 2, 3 and 4!
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
Just have a rooted .42 firmware with an locked bootloader ( i seriously doubt that you have a locked boot loader )
Aftet that just update to .62 over the air [OTA]
If this doesn't works then either flash a pre rooted .62 firmware via fastboot or flash a fresh unrooted firmware via flashtool and then root it by recovery method! If you still have a problem then PM me!

Yes I know that normaly steps 2,3,4 are not required but somehow I had to do it for 3 of the Arcs I rooted.

So you never tried doing the stuff without step 2,3 and 4?? It will work for sure....cause there are only two ways (till now)to have a rooted .62 as stated in my previous post!
But you can guide someone with your method if the original two doesnt work!

I havent gone through all the posts of this thread but i think that the guy aint asking how to have a rooted .62 (incase he is then plenty of threads for it and me and my fellow members have also posted about it here)
Hes just having problem in updating via pc companion.....and the only solution i have is relocking the bootloader, i know i keep asking to lock the bootloader but thats the key to it!
If i missed any point here and please feel free to let me know! ;-)

Messed up quite badly...

I unlocked my bootloader via Omnius , decided to flash sony ics beta due to me being on .42 firmware , correctly entered all the commands nad flashed, but I was stuck in a bootloop and so i decided to try flash tool which gave me :
ERROR - ERR_SEVERITY="MAJOR";ERR_CLASS="MEMORY_CLASS";ERR_STATIC="HASH_VER";ERR_DYNAMIC="Block verification failed";
When trying to flash system or baseband ; kernel flashed fine. It still didn't boot. Tried wotanserver, it stopped when flashing the system. SEUS simply says that I'm on the latest firmware ; I can't repair anything. So now, I have no idea as to what to do...
EDIT-Can't get into fastboot either now -_-.
You did wrong mate, you should have flashed with 0.62 firmware and not 0.42 ! they warned about that !
I hope someone more experience could help you , on my play everything is working with ICS

So you did. Sorry. Have you tried more than one FW version? I don't know much, I can only suggest what I would try in a similar situation. Which would be wiping everything wipe-able and flashing any and all ftf files I had til my phone worked again. Also, kernels add backups.
Sent from my R800i using XDA
When you say you can't repair anything, is that via SEUS?
Sent from my R800i using XDA
It was yes,I can now but its just flashing over the same version of firmware that I have installed ; I'm guessing I still have DRM intact .
A repair is supposed to flash the same version. Did it fix it?
Sent from my R800i using XDA
No it didn't. HOWEVER, after ****ting myself for around 6 hours, I noticed after I flashed the ftf via omnius my unlocked bootloader was gone(couldn't get into fastboot)...Simply did the process again and now I'm back in business .
EDIT- Thanked your posts MilkyJoe for atleast bothering to help me =D.
I know what it's like to Google problems only to be met with "answers" like, "Try Google" or, "Use the search function". Or even posts with no answers. Which forces you to ask questions yourself, often not getting answered.
If I answer and it doesn't help the OP, it might help somebody else Google-ing a similar problem.

Yes. What kernel you got to lose that you worry about? Root, yes, you lose.
SEUS is Sony Ericsson Update Service with old name, SUS(Sony Update Service) is new name.

Hello everyone!
I have a Live with Walkman (WT19i) phone with rooted 4.1.B.0.431 firmware.
Last night i tried the OTA (Over the air) update, so my superuser permissions will not be lost.
So my phone downloads the update, restarts and proceeds through the 2 out of 4 steps of the update(box + up arrow image on screen). On the 3rd step(down arrow image on screen) there is a bit loading on the bar and then my phone restarts normally.
After the restart I get the message "Could not install update software. Try again." (or smthing similar)
Any ideas???

I tried this on my dad's Ray. OTA update failed multiple times, until he updated it with PC Companion. Root was lost, ofcourse, but then I just flashed the old kernel, rooted with suitable exploit and flashed the latest kernel again. Nothing was lost on the phone (few apps got installed again, like wisepilot, facebook, facebook inside xperia and some carriers bloatware - took me 10 minutes to remove all that junk).

Some bugs fixed, generally faster, battery lasts longer.
The OTA update fails because of the root, most likely cause you moved from the system some app that's necessary.

Most probably yes, because I also get an error when trying to flash with Flashtool . . .
So do I flash back to .431? hmmm...

[Q] Noob question on update.

Hi guys,
I am trying to update a stock standard GB 2.3.6 LT15i for my boss.
I have tried doing it via PC Companion, but it seems to get stuck in an update loop. It says that an update is available, and starts to download files - but then goes back to the beginning of the process after about 20 minutes.
I have tried this on 2 different PC's, both Win 7 x64.
I would like to try update the phone using FlashTool now, but I am used to Samsung phones, so I am not sure of the steps.
I just wanna confirm if it is ok to flash this file via FlashTools -
LT15i- Generic GLobal World 4.1.0.B.587 (16/8/2012)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836071
I do not plan on rooting the phone, but I also want to know if this is gonna clean wipe the phone? I will do a backup in PC Companion.
Anything I might need to know? Do I need to worry about bootloaders?
Thanks in advance.
It's okay to flash that file with Flashtools. It's really easy and there is a very small chance to do anything to your phone. Even if you brick it it will be only a soft brick (0.0001% chance to soft-brick it) And yes, it will wipe the phone
You dont have to worry about bootloaders, as long as you flash stock sony roms there wont be any problems
Thanks malimukk, I'll give it a try this morning.
Remember to check the no final verification box or you will get an error message, the phone will be ok and will be updated.

[Q] Sony xperia M CM11 imei unknown baseband unknown

hello ,
today i unlocked my bootloader got cwm and flashed CM11 but after this al was done i had 2 major problems. I have a xperia M c1905
1. when i first booted he didnt ask for my PIN to unlock my SIM and i had no service and i cant call or sent any sms , so i start searching for apps that could cause it but i could'nt find anything so i looked in setting and then i found that my imei is unknown and my baseband also
2. when my phone gets in stand-by i cant unlock my screen unless i pull my battery
EDIT: i think ive solved the 2nd problem i changed the way to unlock
is there anything i can do?
greets
Try flashing the stock firmware again and see if everything works again. If it does, flash cm again and see if there r any changes. If flashing stock firmware doesn't helo, then you probably messed up somewhere really bad in unlocking or flashing. In that case, i think itsvpermanent. Im not an expert at all in this matter but i wanted to help a brother out. Good luck

To get the firmware here is the link:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B7wdGoA4WPZAY01EMG0xX1RSWmM/preview?pli=1
To install it on your phone this is what you need to do:
Download the required ftf, for u, its the 4.1.2 ftf. Place it in the firmware folder in the flashtool folders. Open flashtool. Click the lighting icon. Flashmode. Click on the firmware u want to flash. Press flash. Wait a while, while it prepares files. When it asks you to, turn off ur phone, press and hold the vol. Down button and insert the usb which is attached to the computer at the other end. Let it flash. When done, remove usb. Reboot phone.
Hope this helped:beer::screwy::beer::screwy:

well i try it as soon as possible
but i readed on other forums that changing imei in *#*#3364663#*#* will work too but it wont open anymore...
or that my fts files are corrupted or something like that , can you confirm that?
you need to flash 4.3 not 4.1.2
for the latest cm 11 update (beta 4).you need to have the 4.3 update for baseband.
source : i installed cm11 beta 4 from 4.3 with no bugs
