Hey guys I wanted to restore my old backed up data from recovery mode.
So ye I get this error message saying:
E: can't mount/cache/recovery/command
E: can't mount/cache/recovery/log
E: cant open/cache/recovery/log
E: can't mount/cache/recovery/last log
E: can't open/cache/recovery/last log
(something similar can't remember what it said exactly)
I wasn't really bothered about this error before but now that I cannot restore my old data its a bit of a problem.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Try using FlashTool to wipe your cache

Tried but no luck
Try mounting /cache via the Mounts and Storage menu and then restarting the process.

Doesn't the recovery tool give you the option to selectively restore things? Why not just restore everything except the cache.

Recently, anytime I try to wipe data before a fresh install, I get this error:
Formating /sd-ext
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
Running rooted with Clockwork Mod Recovery v3.1.0.1 (purple)
This error happens regardless of any ROM I'm running or even wanting to flash.
On a smaller note, when I use Recovery to "mount /sd-ext", I get "Error mounting /sd-ext!".
What would be wrong and how do I go about to fix it? Thanks.

Bump. Anyone know? I did a bit of searching when I got home and one article said that it's not really needed. However, it also said there's a way to fix it; by renaming or deleting a certain file/folder, and I can't find that solution again. Any suggestions?
Dont worry about the error. it's literally nothing for you to worry about =)
Hi guys i have a samsung galaxy GIO ... i have a problem.
When i try to do format /data or davlik cache , i have this problem:
http://imagebin.org/207052
How to solve? Thank u
Is it rfs+ext4 variant of CWM? I remember switching to extonly after such issues. There's also a flashable ZIP around that formats everything - gio-all2ext4.
You can try.
Hi, i have flashed that .zip but the situation is the same... help please!!!
Maybe you could try v. 5.0.2.6. Everything works fine for me. Further ive no idea what to do :s

its in the cm7.1(!) thread, there you can still download px-cwm-v2.zip, it is v5.0.2.6
here it is:
http://www.mediafire.com/?p7r2bcn9447bpc8
however this version may give problems too, as this is the changelog from cwm v2:
Code:
New CWM v2
special thx to ZimniY
fix error mount command
remove rfs support
but also :
Code:
Based on particle's CWM Recovery, only add ext4 support for system, data & cache
\
but this one is working for me fine too, only sometimes after going from ext4 to rfs it gives problems, then flash 5.0.2.7 with ext4+rfs support..

Hi when i try "wipe data" or "format /data" i recive this error:
Wiping data...
Formatting / data...
Error mounting /data!
Skipping format...
I have tryed restore, i recive
E: format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/stl13
I can replace the file stl13 with that of a nexus S with ADB?
why? i have a CWM 5.0.2.7
Stock recovery and stock ROM are installed when you flash with Odin.
Files and folders in /dev are symbolic - they are created with Linux kernel's and services' startup. They cannot be copied and transferred.
Are you trying to restore ext4-based ROM within rfs+ext CWM? My experience says it's better to install ext-only CWM if you're going back to ext-based ROM.
Hi! i have CWM ext + rfs but i tryed flash ROM with Odin but don't work!
When i finish the flash ROM stock, i have connected my phone using ADB.
I have run:
"adb shell"
"cd system"
"ls -la"
but it's empty...
/data is empty ...
Why?
After you flash stock with Odin, "update" get's installed (the screen with opened paper box) and then it's stuck at bootlogo, you have to turn it off (quickest way: pull the battery off the phone) and turn it on in recovery mode (home + power button) and clean both data and cache to be sure. Then after reboot, stock will run.
If you want to switch back to ext-based ROM, install ext-only CWM (it will complain at startup about not being able to mount /cache), format all partitions (besides /sdcard and /sd-ext if you used it), mount /system and restore from backup.
It has to work.
Download CWM from phiexz - ext-only flashable from Odin.
I can't wipe data. I recive error:
E: format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/stl13
i have flash recovery ext only but i haven't solved
What have you exactly done that you messed it up so hard?
Tell me each thing you did. From the first, when you were still running stock.
I have flashed AOKP for Gio... it's OK... but after 30 minutes i have flashed a kernel...
i have run: wipe davlik and wipe cache partition...reboot and the phone goes in loop in the initial screen
I don't remember name of kernel... "delano-aokp-kernel"
Partition / data I think it is damaged
...
Quite strange to me what happenned. There are metods to repartition internal storage using GNU parted. I haven't ever tried it. I can't help you here. I only suspect something has tampered in partition table.

Hi!
I saw you on Android Themes section yesterday
First, you must install Custom ROM (that support the theme) before install that theme. Any stock ROM doesn't support much theming now.
So, your only choice is flash stock rom via odin, or install custom rom. :fingers-crossed:

I guess since he installed via recovery, the files goes or replaced in /system. So, if the that files on /system that cause bootloop, wipe data/factory reset can't solve this. Since it's only wipe /data (only my opinion)

didn't knew he was on stock
and a flashable zip can have directories to /data instead of /system/app if its only a theme.
and it wipes data, cache,sd ext, and android.secure.

Fix Playstore Error 492
Due To Cache Not Being Mountable
Iv seen many people saying they cant install apps on cm7 due to error 492 as their cache partition is not mountable so here is how to fix it
For those who get the following error in cwm which will stop you downloading from the playstore (error 492)
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/lastlog
Once you have installed and booted the rom
Go into cwm
Make a nandroid backup
Once the backup has been made
Reboot to recovery
Goto backup and restore
Advanced restore
Select your nandroid backup
Restore cache
Restart
You can now download from the playstore as the cache has been fixed
Lets see
i
i found another solution to this. you will create a new account on google then patiently wait for google play to respond then hola. you can download apps afterwards.. i just discovered it recently
Thank you!!!
OMG! Thank you, I triying to resolve this for a entire week! and this worked!!
Getting :
Checking MD5 sums..
MD5 mismatch..
Same errors with mounting catch...
Update: Using Smart Switch (Kies), I was able to flash the Stock rom. By using the software, I didnt have to know what version to download or where to download. It flashed everything on its own. Just ensure that the cable you are using is proper ( i had a loose cable which was causing a lot of disconnects.
Hi All,
I'm on this abominable 4.3 version (T889UVUCOH4).
I see that after some partial update from Play Store for some games and stuff, the Play Store app stopped working altogether and is frequently showing the message "Unfortunately, Google Play Store has stopped" (pic1.png)
Tried a reboot, cache wipe, dalvik wipe before the dreaded factory reset. At this point I realised its either the factory reset or my phone getting drained to to constant messages from stoppage of the Play Store app.
I backed up all that I needed and decided to get rid of this completely by doing a Factory reset. To my sheer disbelief, factory reset is failing. I am using CWM recovery and Note 2 is rooted.
Code:
ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.4.3
-- Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
Error mounting /data!
Skipping format...
Formatting /cache...
Formatting /sd-ext...
Formatting /sdcard/.android_secuure...
E:unknown volume "/sdcard/.android_secure"
Data wipe complete...
Rebooting
After this the phone boots up normally and goes on to throw up those "app stopped" messages.
If I do the Factory reset from Settings->Accounts->Backup and Reset -> Factory data reset -> Reset device then the following set of logs appear during the reset
Code:
ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.4.3
E: Invalid command argument
Formatting /data...
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0pl17
Formatting /cache...
Data wipe failed.
If anyone can guide me to either install a Custom rom at this stage or simply recover to stock rom, I would really appreciate your help.
I feel some guidance at this stage for me would be good as I have flashed roms and tinked a wee little bit performing Rooting and using Rooted apps and SU (maybe its useful or maybe not)
So please help me !
I would try using TWRP Recovery instead of CWM to wipe the device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1966105
If that fails then get a stock ROM you can flash through Odin (this will wipe internal memory)
I was able to flash the stock rom using Kies (Smart Switch).
I still cannot imagine why that error happened when I was doing partial App update.
Marking it as solved. If you have any concerns, please PM me.
