So, my R800i came with .42 installed, my question to you guys, what are the differences between .42 .48 and .62?
From my past experience, the latest isn't always the best so that's why i'm asking you: Which one is better?
I found some differences
wwwDOTxperiablogDOTnetSLASH2011/11/23/4-0-2-a-0-58-firmware-hits-the-xperia-arc-in-hong-kong-minor-update/
Wich one of this firmwares is better in battery life
and do both have the ability to turn auto brightness off?
(R800i, 4.0.2.A.42 version)
(R800i, 4.0.2.A.58 version)
I believe .58 has better battery life
Yes, they both have the option for no auto-brightness
also i believe 058 is the last that can be rooted by the 1 click method right?
That's correct, .62 and .69 cannot currently be rooted with a locked bootloader
Hi all,
I have installed Zip IT so that i can improve the battery performance. But after running it I have observed that the Model number changed from LT15i to LT18 and the Build number was showing as ZipIT. So I installed the UnZipIT. Then Model number changed back to LT15i but the Build number is showing as 4.0.1.A.0.283.
And my phone is showing a software update to .62 in the notification bar.
Can I go for the OTA update or Can i update through PC Companion?
Or can I flash a Prerooted .62 stock ROM?
Please advise..
Hello guys, just want to ask for your recommendation.
I have SE Arc S firmware official 4.0.4 with locked bootloader
After I root my phone (flash 4.0.3 kernel then used doomlords rooting tools then flash again 4.0.4 kernel)
I notice that after I notice that for every 1 hour it drains 5% of the battery in SLEEP MODE(yes i did'nt do touch my phone for 1 hour then it lost 5%)
Also when I play some games like gamevoid pokemon flora sky, it drains so fast I play 1 hour and it lost about 25%+ .
I already searched for possible fix for this here in the forum but no luck. Since I only find some kernels and I don't know if it works with locked BL.
I really appreciate is someone expert can help me on this.
Note: I also tried removing bloat apps so far no improvement.
change the karnel buy exeted battry
rooting is not he ultimate solution to all android problems...u need to installl custom roms and kernels as well....ice cream pureness rom with stock ernel gives me a battery drain as low as 0.7% per hour...while acronium 4 with doomkernel gives me as low as 0.3% per hour......
and why dont you unlock your bootloader, it can always be relocked again and you can claim your warranty....
ICS pureness?
Thanks Link-in,
I do checked the ICS pureness Rom. is it available for locked bootloader?
well regarding unlocking, Im a bit hesitant doing it because my Arc S is only 2months old. And I don't have any experience unlocking any phone yet.
you dont need any xperiance for unlocking the bootloder...everything is done on official sony website......in fact, i would describe it as even easier than rooting.....just go over here http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and follow the steps.....and check this out for relocking (it gives you back your warranty) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1324703........dont worry about any thing and just do it....
if you dont, you know that you will always have to keep on asking whether a particular rom is compatuble with your locked bootloader .and even a single fatal mistake will take your phone forever...
instaed of just thanking, could you plz. hit the thanks button(it helps a lot)
thanks button pressed.
anyway Im thinking to unlock my BL. but what is the recommended ROM for ICS? is there a 4.0.4 custom rom?
Im searching here in XDA but they are not clearly based on 4.0.4. its just 4.0.3 I think.
doomkernel looks good. i'll try it once i unlocked my BL
use stock rom or arc knight

About 80% of the custom roms are rebased to 4.0.4....and it depend on what type of rom you want for your daily use
Acronium 4 gives battery efficiency
Jj's hybrid gives superb looks
Cm7 and cm 9 give superb stability
And you need to check if doom kernel is compatible with a particular type of rom.....it is not suitable for cm's....but with that, you can overclock the other two roms
flash a stock kernel

You need ICS firmware aswell, ICS kernels work only on ICS firmware, GB kernels work only on GB firmware.

Don't mix Stock ICS Kernel 4.1.A.0.562(ICS 4.0.3) with 4.1.B.0.431 firmware i did the same mistake and i had the sony Logo appearing repeatly. to make your fone boot correctly just flash any kernel based on 4.1.B.0.431 (ICS4.0.4) with any ROM (stock or custom)based also on 4.1.B.0.431 only
Man, read a little bit the threads at Android Development.
Some roms, you don´t need to unlock your bootloader to install.
About battery, if you have good signal strengh, you only need to root your phone and remove bloatware (sony apps) and your battery will start to last. I use stock ICS 4.0.4 rom with Stock kernel, stock baseband, and my battery usually lasts from 24 to 48 hours.
I use a program called 'No Cpu Frills' and set my cpu to the minimum of 133mhz and to the maximum of 1024mhz, even my phone being an Arc S.
The rom you´re going to use depends more on what you want from your phone. Some roms are designed for games, others for business, others just for ego (lol) and etc...
We have many good Roms for Xperia Arc and Arc S here. Take some days and test them... only you can say for sure what is best for you.
I, for example, before getting back to stock, used a lot the IceBean 4.2 (It´s xperia S´ rom with modifications. Very sexy, indeed.)
Good luck on your quest... =)

If you have unlocked your boot loader you cant install OTA updates or any official Sony updates. To get official Sony update from PC Companion or Sony Update service or Over the air you need locked boot loader. To install official Sony firmware on a device with unlocked bootloader you need to have a tool called flashtool installed on your PC.
