So...wife just got this phone and loves it except that the phone doesn't search all contacts when using the search function in the dialer. It only searches the contacts that were chosen to be displayed.
On vanilla android...the search will include all contacts including the ones that are not selected to be displayed.
Is there an option to get this working or is that the way Samsung wanted it?

on mine it will show all contacts, just have to select arrow down option that shows all available contacts within that number
Okay...I'll check again...
But, this is what I'm doing...
She has groups...she selects friends and family groups to be displayed. She is typing in the name of a business that she has under the group business...The phone says no contact found...even when pressing the search all contacts button.
But, I'll double check about the arrow when she gets home. Thanks.

Nah...no such arrow. Seems that this phone doesn't search all contacts when you ask it to. Weird... why even put that option there if it's not going to work...since while you type...it's searching all contacts selected to be displayed.

In the attached screen shot is the arrow i'm referring to..I hit
2 and basically once I press it, it gives me every contract that name starts with a, b, and C.

Okay. No arrow for me. But I think maybe we're not on the same page...I probably wasn't very clear.
I have contact groups A, B, C. I only want to display A & B on the phone....so those are the only ones I have checked in the display option.
On Vanilla android dialer....if I'm searching for a contact on group C...I hit the search all contacts button (after the phone tells me that there is no such contact within the current group chosen to be displayed)...and it goes and searches through group C and finds that contact.
On this phone...when I do that...it does not search group C. It just searches group A & B only.
But, I'll check again tonight...because I am getting old......but, I'm pretty sure this phone's dialer doesn't do it.
Do you know if I can just extract the phone apk from vanilla and use that instead?

Instead of making 2 separate posts, i thought i'd put my 2 issues into a single post. I have a european TP2 running the stock rom.
1) I dont know at what point it happened, but my 'long press end key' icon in settings has disappeared. I have no idea what might have caused this, but it was there originally since i set the long press to terminate the data connection. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know how i can get it back, or at least what registry keys that i can modify to select one of the 4 options?
2) I'm not sure if i'm using the right term, but i was wondering how i can disable the unified messaging center. I'm referring to the new text messaging interface that comes up when i click a message in TF3D that also includes the contact card, email, events and call history. I've looked through all of the forum posts but i havent been able to find a post regarding this. As bland as the MS threaded messaging interface is, i prefer it to what HTC has done, mainly because it shows more messages and that i can resize the bottom portion where i type.
Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
1) Start > Settings > All Settings > Personal > Buttons > End Key
2) Still finding the solution
1) Settings>Personal>Buttons>End Key
2) I know it doesn't directly answer your question but from the TF3D I just press the "All Messages" soft button on the left to get to the MS inbox
Thank you for replying so quickly.
In Start > Settings > All Settings > Personal > Buttons, i dont have the end key as an option, the only button i have is the 'Send Key(Hold)'. After doing a lot of searching, i found the 'LongPressEndKeyApp.exe' file in the windows directory, and that brings up the menu like the icon in the setting's menu did before. I still think its strange that it's no longer under settings, but at least i found a solution.
As for my second question, thanks for the suggestion to click on 'All messages', but i still wish i could just click the message like in the Diamond/Pro. I'm just quibbling over a minor point, so its not a big deal. =P
Thanks for the responses.
"End Key" should be the 3rd tab once inside Buttons settings

Thanks for the visual aid Mesquire, turns out that i never had the long press end key in my settings, it was under 'buttons' the whole time. Well i feel dumb, but thats what i get for switching between by old TP and the TP2. lol
The misses has just received here DHD and found that the standard HTC People manager only shows the address in a small scrollable field and it's really awkward to see the full address at a glance.
Does anyone have any ideas how to make the address easily visible?
Or an alternative contact manager app?
I'll post screen shots later if it'll help.
I had a quick surf earlier and couldn't find any info that was helpful...
So we can view a complete contract address, does anyone know how to get the standard Contact viewer to replace HTC's?
HTC Contact Address is truncated on a single line e.g.

Android Contact Address is shown over several lines e.g.
Excuse the pic's, they're for illustration purposes only.
I had the same problem with my last phone - a Nokia E71. You had to hit 'edit' to view the address in a seperate window. A pain in the posterior! And, like you, I've noticed that the HTC People app does the same thing. So you can either a) use the 'edit' mode or b) tap the address, it comes up on Google maps, tap the flag and then the full address pops up. Doh ....
Thing is, with the more basic Nokias, and I've just checked with the wife's 2730 Classic, you can use the 'View' option to look at the complete address. If the address was so long it wouldn't fit on one screen then you just scroll down. Simples! Now, how can Android do the same?
Dave
Same problem with birthday... Can't see the year until you edit it, annoying
OK. Been looking into this as I was getting a bit hacked off with it. Something so basic .... Anyhow, downloaded 'AddressBook for Android 2' and at first it looked quite good but soon noticed it had no 'comapny' field ... But you could view the complete address in a single window.
Then tried Youlu. Now this seems to meet all my needs (at present anyway!). It gives all the same info as the 'people' app but when you choose the address you get ..... the full postal address!!!! Only then, if you tap the address you get Google maps showing where it is.
HTH
Dave
Thanks for the suggestions, although I don't see many favourable reviews for Youlu - how have you found it?
I sent this issue to HTC a few weeks back. Maybe if more of us do the same they may consider addressing it (if you'll pardon the pun) in a future update.
I'm getting a little fed-up with having to consider using 3rd party apps to replace basic functionality. I'm using Handcent because Sense SMS is broken, the Sense calendar is full of holes and doesn't include tasks, so I'm looking for a replacement... And contacts (which is otherwise ok) doesn't show complete addresses!
It seems to appear randomly on the thread view display. Any ideas?
Thanks

I don't see any way to do that and besides, that icon has come and gone a few times with no new text activity at all.

I am doing some things on CM7 so can't check it at the moment. Is it possible that it either shows who was the last to respond? In otherwords you never responded or something like that.

That is because that contact is using google talk. you have that persons phone number and gTalk email address linked in your contacts so their status from google talk will appear in the stock messaging app.
That was a long winded answer lol.
More Info:
that icon represents the user has been idle for awhile. A green dot means active.

You are on to something. The user with that icon has a linked google+ account, and when I go to his gmail contact info on my PC that same icon appears next to his email address. So if I understand, it has something to do with whether he is available on gtalk. The clock means he's available but idle, a green dot means active.
Thanks.

I have been restoring a titanium backup of voice for a long time but being the happy new owner of a GNex I Installed fresh from the market. It didnt ask about the google voice number integration (the part we all skipped) Did I miss something or have they changed something. I also remember it asking about texting but now it only asks about calls. Can someone confirm. Thanks

I'm not sure what your question is? Do you or don't you want the integration? Are you having problems making or receiving calls or texts?

I dont want integration I just remember having to skip that part and now it no longer asks. I just wanted to verify with someone who has set it up recently that they removed that part. also if someone who JUST uses it for voicemail only would check their settings within voice > sync and notifications > it says receive texts via google voice app (which was another step which was missing I didnt choose that option upon expanding it the choices are that and via the messaging app. I do not want google voice to do anything but voicemails and the new app dosent appear to have the previous steps to deselect those options. I was just looking for verification
Thanks
also on the sprint GNex I recieve a flashing led upon rec of a voicemail but do not have the flashing led with a new text can someone verify this as well Thanks agn
Edit
I chaged the setting to receive texts via the messaging app and now i get a flashing indicator weird
U can select it to receive text also but it doesn't automatically integrate....have to go into settings and check it....

Actually the Feature was for the Galaxy S8 (+).

Original Thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/how-to-install-live-drawings-note8-root-t3668023
First you start the download of the 3 Apks, from the following links.
Samsung Keyboard Apk:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...sung-keyboard-2-1-02-42-android-apk-download/
Samsung Live Messages Apk:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...ung-live-message-1-2-11-android-apk-download/
Samsung Messages Apk:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...sung-messages-4-3-03-21-android-apk-download/
Now you go in the Settings on Device Security and activate the Safe Start. Forgive a Pin and restart the Tablet. If you have already activated Safe Start, disable it and reboot the Tablet.
As strange as that may sound.
After the Reboot you will install the
3 Apks.
Now you go to the Search Bar in an App of your choice and when you open the Keyboard you can already see the Heart Shaped sign of the Live Message, to the left of the Space Bar.
See Screenshot.
Creating a Live Message works in any App that has a Search Bar. Simply tap the magnifying Glass Icon and then select the Live Message Icon on the Keyboard.
Create a Live Message, then click Done.
Wait for 100% loading.
Then use Send, select the Messenger or any other App offered in the Menu that appears, with which you want to share the Live Message.
Or Select the Contact you want to send a Live Message to.
It is not currently possible to send a Live Message with a Messenger directly from the Message Field of a Contact.
It already works with a Messenger, but only through the Search Bar.
So the Live Message has to be created in the Search Bar. (Messenger)
If someone has an Account like here in XDA,Android Help, Android Pit etc.
Can in the "Quick Reply" Section, where someone for a Topic Post or a If you want to create an Answer, also create a Live Message.
Thanks to the developer mweinbach (XDA).
This one gave me the Idea. To create this Guide.
So I experimented a bit and that's how this Guide came about.
