It's because one of the apps you have installed is using air push ads.
Install this: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.brosmike.airpushdetector it will tell you which app(s) is using air push.

Or install Adfree if you are rooted.
I basically uninstall any app that's using Airpush. I'm all for supporting developers but turning my notification bar into a billboard is waaaaay too intolerable.

Funniest thing I have read all day

I'd be posting a review on the Market informing customers it does this - it's not on IMO

Glad this is on here, my wifes phone is having the same thing pop up. About winning a vomItPad....
Thanks for the market link

Thanks for the reply, it was the "Brilliant Quotes" app. Consider it uninstalled...

Malware on my phone? :(

So mysterious bookmarks keep appearing on my home screen every other day. I sort of ignored it at first but now there's one called SMS spy and something about location and now I'm creeped out. Anyone have any ideas? These don't show up in application cache or anything, just on my home screen.

I have never heard of that before. What happens when you click it? Does it direct you to a website?
I would also browse your root folder directories and see if you can find anything out of the ordinary.

Google SMS spy and you will understand.

Shift apps/malware for sure. Uncheck "install from unknown sources" and try to track down the rogue app. If you can't find anything, I'd factory reset. Don't wanna mess around with that stuff.

what have you been installing? any apps that aren't allowed to be discussed here can cause things like that.
Bro if your gonna download apps illegally, at least get a bunch of security applications, like 6 of em for 6 different opinions.
Speaking of malicious, Has anyone got a warning about Super user being malicious??? That is what both of security applications said. And I got it from the play store.
*facepalm*
Antivirus on anything is pointless if you're doing something completely legit.

Some apps from the market will do that. If you are getting any of the air push ads then that's what it is. Some apps are in the market that will do that. Best to find which app it is and delete it. That is from my experience.

Yeah but obviously a game or app that seems too good to be true is where malware is found. Not in angry birds. Like I said totally legit.

A few apps from the play store will add bookmarks to your home screen. TBH I can't name any off the top of my head but has happened on my GF android before. Chances are an app you have downloaded has been developed by the same people who make this "SMS spy" app. I would go through installed Apps and note who the publisher is and see if any are the same as the SMS spy app.
Chances are its just pain in arse advertising.

As indyred99 said. Some apps allow air push ads. Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.byq.airblocker from the play store. (Must be rooted) reboot, then they will stop.
Also, only install apps from the play store.

I think I got a virus

I unlocked my screen today and on my home screen there was an icon I've never seen before. It was a blue square with a magnifying glass and under the icon it said " search". Idk where it came from but what should I do about? I removed it and looked for it in my app drawer and in settings under apps but couldn't locate it

Lol not a virus. Its an app that you recently installed that added it. Usually bad apps or ones that are shady. Might want to figure out the most recent app you installed.

Probably a malicious app.
Delete any app u've installed in recently.
--------------------------------------------------
If I have helped you.... hit that sexy thanks button. ^_^
Definitely a malicious app. Download some antivirus/antimalware apps.
download this app to see what app could be in question! it detects apps with ad addons https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwxLDMsImNvbS5kZW5wZXIuYWRkb25zZGV0ZWN0b3IiXQ..
I've had that happen to me when I installed some games/apps. Dunno what it is though, weird.
it is just a malicious app brother... review the apps that you have recently installed and remove it one by one until the issue is gone.
I use a program for music, it is written that it will add a search icon blah blah on install screen. I just delete the icon.

No it's not bad, as the developer who is well known has not kept it secret, it's written clearly on his play store link.
It's a search icon that if you use will search using some other search engine, obviously I don't use it.
This happened on my wifes old glaxy s i9000 when she installed kindle app.
Have you installed kindle recently?
To be on the safe side i wiped her phone immediately.

Anyways yes there are some apps that state they will place an icon on your home screen, its just a more intrusive way of advertising so they can make that money. The ones to be concerned with are the ones that don't forewarn you about push notifications or shortcuts, because then you may not know to look for an alternative. Of course if you read some reviews, like I do you, you can usually find out about these things before downloading.

Download and install AirPush Detector and Ad Network Detector from the Play Store. They always help me identify apps that cause problems.

I think I got malware or a app triggering notification ads.

I am getting two ads a day in my Notification Bar. It's odd because I don't download anything from the market that looks suspicious. I also read the comments for everything I download. Does anyone know of a way I can figure out what app is pushing these ads or if there is a app that will scan my phone for malware?

Get airpush from playstore it will tell you what app is causing it
sent via galaxy s3 on jelly bean
If you find the offending app, you can opt out of their push notifications via a website depending what company is pushing the spam on you. I honestly forget which company it was ... you'll have to go to the playstore and find the offending app and check out the description. I know one of them had instructions on how to opt out.
Wont work for all of them, but you might get lucky.
There is also an airpush opt out app in the playstore as well.

Is my phone infected with spyware?

Hello All,
I started to get advertisements under my "notification" bar. Sometimes I would get a notification, and it is like advertising for something, and when I click on it, it attempt to access the webpage ( which I declined to continue). Is the fact that i'm getting these advertisements mean that my phone is infected with spywares? if so how do i get rid of them?
thanks

Most likely you installed a app that has advertisements some have google apps and some have ones that pop up in your notification area other then it being annoying its not necessarily spyware, find the app and uninstall it and your problem will be solved
Our you can install Rom toolbox pro from the market and block every type of ad everywhere

Get airpush detector like the other post said. Thing about these apps that use those kinds of ads also like to thro shortcuts on your homescreen and browser. Everyone hates these apps so rather than block em, i prefer to uninstall them and not use that devs stuff again till they get the point!

Google play

Is anyone else having this issue in google play.
You scroll down as you look at apps.
You select one to look at it then go back to the app list.
Once back to the list you are started back at the top.
Pretty annoying if you are pretty far down.
Anyone know of a fix
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

I have actually contacted Google about this. It happens when viewing the "My Apps" and is especially annoying in the "All" tab. It also happens in the "Top New Free" apps section. Google emailed me back and said they can't promise anything, but my concern had been forwarded to their developers. I really hope they fix this.
Good deal. Yeah it's not a huge deal but gets annoying when you are searching for apps and have to scroll through a couple hundred apps to get back to where you left off. Seems like it would be an easy fix for Google I wonder why they don't fix it.

Yes, now that you mention it the app history of every app you downloaded in the last 5 years is worse. I download and try a ton of free apps as well as paid. Most free apps are deleted within the day, so I have a gazillion apps in the my apps list
