This probably won't matter too much to our American readers, but the 32GB version of the GSM Galaxy Nexus has been canceled according to Expansys and Negri Electronics. Initially the latest Nexus device was supposed to be sold in both 32 and 16 gigabyte varieties. But, for whatever reason, the larger capacity model never made it to market. Now, word is that it may never happen. A couple of importers are saying they've been notified by Samsung that handset has been discontinued, which is particularly bad news since the Gnex (as the cool kids are calling it) doesn't have a microSD slot. We hope you like streaming all your media.

Not that surprising, the 16gb version hasn't exactly been flying off the shelves.
Come on, this was just posted...

And yes, it does look like the 32GB version has been cancelled. Apparently Expansys and Negri have already confirmed they are not getting the 32GB in stock.
Way to go google. Nexus was supposed to be the champion phone that helped break some of the chains of the carriers yet here we are chained to 16gb and possible data charges.
Sent from my Nexus in Texas.
Relatively small amount of storage is the only thing about my GNex I hate.
While this is pretty surprising I just don't think that high of a % of people really need more than 16gb of storage.
I might be a bit of a fringe case on the other side, but I've yet to use more than 5gb on my phone (including the OS). Been using the phone for a few weeks now and have 11.3gb free. Even if you're an app and music fanatic, there is no situation in which you'll need 15gb of media on the device at any given time.
I get having to remove things to sideload a movie or two is annoying, but who does that on a regular basis, really?
On devices like the iPhone that widely offer 16gb, 32gb and 64gb models I'd venture to guess somewhere in the 85% of sales are of the 16gb.
Oh well. Its a keeper till the SGS3.
Im curious to know why all the sudden changes on a 2 month old phonr

I'm sure it works great for some people. But I found that when I'm out biking, streaming music is very unreliable on T-Mobile here in the Phoenix area, so I have to keep my music on my device. I also tend to download a lot of pod casts and videos, streaming just hasn't been reliable enough for me.
Regarding the 32GB GSM model being cancelled. Not surprised. The Nexus gets zero respect from hardware manufactures and carriers. Google seems to have pretty much no leverage and is already bending to their demands (Verizon apps and branding on a Nexus? Wow).
I hope Google goes with Motorola and has enough influence with their new purchase to do the next Nexus right. Galaxy Nexus is a good phone, I like it, but Samsung did half ass a few things and definitely is more interested in it's own Galaxy S line than this Nexus.

This. Most of my music is up on Amazon Cloud. I have 25GB available.
I feel for those that care about this, but I don't. I switch music out on my phone quite a bit and have many apps installed , half of them I could probably delete and not care. I still have around 3G free, which is plenty.

What about people who have a reason to minimize data usage or maximize battery life?
What about people who get spotty data coverage or no data coverage in locations?
The cloud is great iff you can access it.
I simply see no reason to use expensive and resource intensive networked resources when a little bit of cheap flash would do.

Then this is NOT the phone for them, "These are not the Droids you're looking for", as it were. Pretty simple really. Plenty of options out there. God forbid they would get a PMP for their media needs...
A phone is primarily a communication device first, at least for me.
lol i bought this phone because i wanted direct aosp support. i don't care about otas and 32gb storage. And have you people ever heard about OTG for your massive storage needs?
hope google does indeed success in buying motorola mobility though.

Verizon’s latest minimum advertised pricing (MAP) list has added two devices that are no doubt on everyones short list for the holidays. The fan favorite has to be the Galaxy Nexus (Prime), but the HTC Rezound (Vigor) is no slouch in the specs department and HTC certainly has a loyal following amongst the Android faithful.
Considering what these phones have to offer it will probably come as no surprise that they are grabbing Verizon’s top pricing at $299.99 on a 2-year contract. We had a nice run there when $199 was the worst they would do to us, but clearly those days are gone for now.
Does $299 seem like a fair price for these devices to you? How does the November 10th release date sit with you? Should they have pushed to get it closer to the iPhone’s release or is just making sure it is out in time for the holidays good enough?
I only care about the unsubsidized price. I am anticipating paying out the ass for this thing.
$299 on a contract does seem a bit excessive. Hopefully when they do get around to launching an ICS device on Sprint, as usual, the hype will have come down along with the cost.

I'm sure you can get one unsubsidized at any Verizon store. Just tell them you're going to activate it later or its a gift.
Looking at the price from one of the UK stores already advertising it for £514.80 ($813) VAT included and £429 ($628) base for the 16gig model. Of course that's before any official pricing is available so take with a Mt. Everest size grain of salt.
I am going to get the 32gig GSM version as soon as it hits the street. My N1 is getting long in the tooth.

Well for starters I fly a lot so Pandora or a cloud is out of the question for me. I have several gigabytes of music, not counting that I want to use that gorgeous HD screen to watch movies(each movie in HD is about 2GB or more) and play games. That's without adding all the 1080p videos that I'll be taking. Hence, I need more that 16GB. The new Razr has an sd card slot, and it has hdmi port built in to watch Netflix in HD on your big screen tv. I may tilt toward the Razr this time.

I'm getting extremely turned off by this. Verizon's version of the Nexus is NOT pure Google. No Google branding? What BS. Verizon bloatware out of the box? What BS. If people want those apps, then they can download them from the Market. I'm gonna flip my lid if this delay has to do with those apps being linked to the device's framework somehow.
AT&T is completely out of the question for me. Seriously, **** that bastard company and everything they stand for. I'll punch a baby before AT&T ever gets another dime from me. I was willing to leave T-Mobile for a superior network in Verizon until reading all of this.
Verizon and AT&T can't seem to keep themselves from ruining EVERY device they touch. The T-Bolt and Bionic are bad enough. Both look like a freaking Verizon graffiti wall.
I'm not touching Galaxy Nexus until someone can confirm that those two apps are purely JUST APPS and not tied to the framework or necessary for the device to work right. I'm not going down this line again like I did with my Vibrant. It's either pure Google, or it isn't.
I remember going to that store a few years back on a visit to NYC thinking the 4 megapixel phones and video phones were out of this world. We've come a long way since then.

Just to give you a heads up based on past experience with Verizon bloatware, I've always been able to root and just strip the apks right out of the system folder with no problems. I don't see why this would be any different, these are apps I've removed many times before via root.
On a side note, these moves by Verizon do not surprise me at all. They don't operate like GSM carriers. They operate on a foundation of being able to control what devices access their network. Always have, always will. I'm just happy Google was willing to compromise with them to get this far, even if we do end up getting a somewhat bastardized Nexus. As long as its vanilla and the bootloader is unlockable, I'm content.

Hi everybody,
I heard some rumors about the Nexus listed as EOL in various big electronic shops in Germany.
In addition to that, lots of european webshops stopped selling the Nexus after a nasty rise in selling price for the last weeks.
Can anyone comment on that with reliable informations?
the internet told me the phone was at EOL 1 year ago!
My carrier in Canada dropped the Nexus 3 months after first putting it on sale. Even Samsung has admitted in one of the patent trials with Apple that Nexus sales have been "insignificant". The Nexus has been dead as a consumer product for at least 6 months. However, that doesn't mean it is a bad phone. It just means that all the sheeple swayed by CPU cores and megapixels quickly move on to the newest and "best" thing.
EOL means that a certain carrier or OEM will stop giving updates. Since the updates come directly from Google, only Google can determine the EOL, not some shop in Germany or a Canadian carrier. Keep in mind, the Nexus S has received its jellybean update, so I don't think EOL will come anytime soon for the Gnex.
All major stores in the UK have stopped selling it and haven't had it for about 7 months.
I suspect it'll get at least the next update (4.2? 5.0?) If google gets their act together, possibly even more - it's not like the hardware is too limited.
And, of course, xda end of life would be at least a year after that, if not more.
^ Yep. It will be a looong time before the software is too much for the hardware..if ever.

all you gotta do is look at the Nexus S. Still kicking, and strongly. And the Galaxy Nexus is a stronger device hardware-wise.
no EOL in sight!
Yes OP it has been EOL-ed in Malaysia. However, like everyone mentioned, nothing to worry about flash yakju or a custom rom and you will never worry about EOL. Unless if you want to buy another galaxy nexus. Then the best time to buy is now before they go out of sale if they haven't already. Or wait for the next nexus.

Out of Stock has nothing to do with End of Life.
Uh... EOL means the device is no longer manufactured, which will usually follow with less to no software support. The Galaxy Nexus won't be EOL anywhere for quite, quite some time.

educate yourself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/End-of-life_(product)
granted, the definition is not carved in stone, but as for the Galaxy Nexus I guess we're nearing EOS after the price drops and massive sales in the states and elsewhere. nothing to worry about, Apple does the same with "discontinued" hardware still piling up in their warehouses such as the iPad 2 or iPhone 4S as soon as a successor device is on the horizon. and with the GNex it seems we're in for quite a selection of successor devices before year's end so it's just natural that Google and Samsung stopped production probably some months ago and cleared their warehouses over the last 2 months.
remember, in August 2012 the Nexus S (introduced in December 2010) got upgraded to 4.1.1 JB. I'd guess the GNex will get current firmware versions from Google well into 2014. Keep calm and carry on, guys. It's a Nexus after all ^^

I guess just as much as mine...
Even if the Nexus reaches EOL, it was a pretty decent phone and will have community support for a good while. My ONLY complaint about my Nexus is the USB storage transfer fiasco. I understand technically what its doing, and I understand why they did what they did. That don't make me any happier though. I've found newer ways to transfer files from my pc or other devices to my Nexus, I just wish the ease of USB Mass Storage was there...

Not to ***** but perhaps this will help someone considering a purchase.
I recently had the chance at a free upgrade from my Nexus S 4g (free as in two-year contract) so based on the fact that LTE is supposedly active in Baltimore and the Galaxy Nexus got insanely rave reviews from everyone, I decided to take the leap.
Here's what I found:
1.) LTE does not work in any of the locations I spend the most time in Baltimore. In fact I cant even say that it works at all as I've never seen an LTE connection anywhere in the city. According to the coverage map, my house and my kid's soccer field on the other side of town are both in LTE areas but I get no LTE signal at either location. Forcing LTE in either location results in no signal at all. I can only assume that Sprint LTE is not ready for prime time or I have a defective phone.
2.) MTP. One of those things that the reviewers never mention. I sort of expected that the phone would use MTP since the Nexus 7 does and was disappointed to find this to be the case. MTP has been unreliable when copying large numbers of files on every device I've ever encountered it on, not to mention the annoying Windows 7 warnings about how your media files may not work when you know they absolutely will work. Sure enough, the copy hung and the phone had to be unplugged and plugged back in the first time I tried to copy my old /sdcard contents to the phone. Took me about 3 tries to get everything copied. I much prefer regular old USB Mass Storage mode.
3.) WIFI signal strength. The WIFI signal strength is demonstrably worse than on my Nexus S4g (which also isn't great). It's just a little worse but bad enough that I can't reliably use WIFI on my porch or at my desk at work, both locations where I get a usable weak signal on the Nexus S.
4.) Size. This one is totally subjective but I find that it's more difficult to use the phone one handed, with my thumb as the pointer. This is how I use the phone 99% of the time. I suspect I could get used it but for now it's a minus.
5.) Speed. For daily use, mostly reading and checking email, the phone is not appreciably faster than my Nexus S 4G. Google Now is a bit snappier and you get the occasional lag when switching apps less often but that's about it.
So, that's that. Otherwise it's a very handsome phone. No LTE is the real killer. I don't see the point of locking myself into a two year contract when I can't even use LTE and I know the next Nexus will be out in the next 6 months or so. WiMax still works so I'll just stick with that until Sprint gets their **** together.
Cool story bro. But i haven't had any issues with mine and couldnt be happier.

I don't understand why people post these things in the gnex forums. We are here kuz we own them and like them. No disrespect but I don't care why you don't like it. I don't have the issues you speak of so hope you find a phone you like. There is an appropriate place to post your review. Its on the sprint sight. I just hate when people do this. Its telling us to our face that the phone we have sucks.

and we care because.....??
Your first mistake was expecting Sprint to have descent LTE. If you are interested in LTE you go VZW, otherwise just pass on it for a few years.
So your main issue is that Sprint has awful service? This isn't news. Grab a play store nexus and pick your flavor of prepaid SIM card!
Nexus FTW!!! We should totally create a rant and rave forum... That would just be like so much more fun to sit there and watch people bash phones that they don't even understand... Especially why a Nexus is a Nexus... The phone is awesome because it is a developers playground, if you want a phone that supposedly works the way everybody else wants then go buy an iPhone and believe like the rest the morons in this world that it is the most sophisticated smartphone...

You have small hands. Can't help that.
Your wifi router sux. Upgrade son.
MTP works good. Not USB good. But good.
Ive seen JB running on a Nex S. Gnex is loads faster. Especially booting and app switching

Why do people still use carrier subsidized phones then ***** about the service? Should have jumped ship on sprint instead of getting them to rope you back in with a free $350 phone. If you're still in remorse period return it, leave sprint and pick up a GSM unlocked Nexus.
so I just saw this online and got real excited. Being the owner of a Galaxy Nexus and an LG ally (both which i loved to death) I was excited to see this until I read the actual story. What a f*ckn disappointment. Its pretty much our phone but with a few added bad ideas. Is it just me?

I wouldn't be surprised if LG or at least someone else makes the next Nexus. I highly doubt it'd come in an 8 GB version. Since they never seem to have an SD card slot, going down in size doesn't make any sense.
LG hardware isn't bad, it's the software and nexus fixes that.
I think these specs are wrong though.
we need to stop supporting this non micro sd card slot non sense!

Meh, if it's got enough storage on board, I don't see an issue with it.

I don't like the non removable battery and no sd card slot. Sorry but if we continue buying products like this its going to encourage manufacturers not to include these things as standard anymore and make it more complicated for the user and more expensive, to fix things.
For example just as the keyboard on smartphones is almost non existent, a smartphone future where there is no expandable memory as sd card slot is going to to enable manufacturers to shoot prices up for simple internal memory storage model upgrades. Like the Nexus 7, $50 extra for only 8gb's more??
Uhhh did op read the article.. ...yes it has bad ideas but the optimus g sports the s4 krait quad which also means adreno 305 that thing is way way faster then our phones

Ya maybe if you consider 8gb with no expansion enough. I still kick myself for not getting a 32gb s3. but at least i can expand if i need to. With a non removable battery on top of it. Ill pass on this one for sure
Nexus is overrated, tablet or phone.. too many other better devices out there. nexus is basically a device that google gets made from which ever manufacturer can make it the cheapest..
oops i made a poll/topic without seeing this
oh well
Now read this one .....http://www.ubergizmo.com/2012/10/new-report-corroborates-multiple-nexus-devices-rumor/

Sure is, but considering LG's previous track record, it'll self-destruct in a month after buying it.
Eh, giving it a month is pretty generous...

No Amoled?Whoever made a decision to use Lcd needs to be fired or beaten to death(joking) especially because LG can make their own Amoled screens.

SLCD2 is better than AMOLED. Its brighter, uses less battery, has truer colors, and doesn't need PenTile.
