I flashed the ics version of dsp manager, but it doesn't seem to be doing much of what it should. Disable button is grayed off, so... how do i uninstall it?

If it's on /system/app then use a file manager to remove it
Tried it but the apk won't go away. Confirmation dialog comes up, i accept, progress bar fills up. But the app is still there, no matter how many tries i give it.

Bump.

Make sure that your file manager is remounting /system in read/write mode.
Delete the apk from /system/app.
Reboot.
Alternatively, connect via adb with the phone in recovery.
Code:
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/AppName.apk
adb reboot
or similar should get it taken care of.

did you mount /system in rw mode? (it's ro by default)
U dont have write access to system partition in normal use if i read the tutorial right. U have to do it with an update.zip (editing the update script) or with adb both u have to do in recovery menu from modaco i think. Tell me if i am wrong.

Damn, you're right. Previously, I had deleted an .apk just to check if it's working, then reinstalled the app right away.
But I just tested now, it looks like after a reboot, the .apk magically reappears, and the application is running as usual

Try this: Boot in recovery menu and try the following commands:
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/APP.apk
adb shell rm /data/app/APP.apk
where APP.apk is the filename of the apk with the .apk extention, remember case-sensitive!
for example:
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/FriendStream.apk
adb shell rm /system/app/FriendStream.odex
take a look before if your app has a odex or try this: (here u need only one command)
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/*FriendStream*
Good luck and have fun =)
Edit: Just find a topic =)

I'm trying to do these things in windows at the moment. No issues getting in the recovery with the windows scripts. But when I try to open a ADB Shell after I've gone to recovery I can't really do anything with it and the recovery hangs (not controllable with the track pad).
Anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong?
You're not doing anything wrong, from what I've seen opening a new adb instance on Windows will kill the server created by the .bat file used for recovery... which means the connection to the device is lost. I haven't looked into it further, but it might be fixeable somehow.
Ah I see, so basicly you undo the patched recovery by opening a new session. It does work properly under Linux then? I run ubuntu on my netbook so It's not a big issue anyway. Thanks for the tip, gonna try under linux now!
I'm having the same problems as:
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...co-com/307401/removing-sys-apps/#entry1256015
I removed a load of HTC widgets but I get strange entries on the widget menu. Anyone know how to get rid of these?
Also, I removed Stocks (.apk and .odex), now I get a force close on 'Accounts & sync'. Anyone know how to remove Stocks properly?
Cheers.
After running the bat file to get into recovery, start a new cmd prompt in windows and use again adb-nilezon for shell commands instead of ordinary adb, and it wont be killed.
This has worked for me atleast

The best, foolproof, failsafe way is to remove them from the rom before installing it... and remember that some services are still required, weather you use them or not.
But, if a system app is already installed you need to remove:
the apk from /system/app
the data from /data/data/appname
the cache from /cache/dalvik-cache
Do not remove Accounts & Sync...
Thanks for the answer.
I guess now is a good time to bake my own ROM!

Alright, when I turn my phone on LauncherPro keeps forceclosing on me, and I can't do ****. I just get 'the application LauncherPro doesn't answer', and an option to force close. When I push force close, the same message pops up again, so I can't access my phone. Is there any way I can fix this via adb or something? What I think caused the problem was that I downloaded and adb pushed a LauncherProPlus.apk (don't know the exact .apk name of it) to my phone (extremely stupid, I know).
Also, is there an adb command to view your phones files? Please help me out with this.
Have you tried wiping dalvik from recovery and then rebooting?
If that doesnt work, you could try pushing another launchers apk to /system/app or /data/app.
Or do you have a backup that you can restore?
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Just remove the launcherpro apk again with adb. It's either a normal adb command or you have to use a shell. Make sure you have a other launcher on the phone when doing this.
If this sounds to complicated and you pushed the apk to /system you can reflash your rom without wiping data.

Do you have an adw.apk or something? I'd like to try this first, as I have no recent backup. What do you mean wiping dalvik?
nvm guys, I managed to uninstall LauncherPro by adding a shortcut to installed programs on widgetlocker. I didn't manage to remove it with adb for some reason. Thanks anyways! Appreciate it.
Try wiping dalvik cache through recovery first.
Boot phone with vol down and power. Then choose recovery.
In the advanced menu, there should be the option to wipe dalvik cache.
Reboot.

Actually, I have one more question. I downloaded this file: http://www.4shared.com/file/EMhprjdn/LauncherPro_Plus_v083.htm and pushed it to my /system/app using ''adb push file name and location /system/app''. Now I can't find any way to delete it, doesn't work with any file manager, neither do I have any adb command. This is a problem because as long as I have this file in my /system/app, I obviously can't use LauncherPro downloaded from the market. Anyone know how?
You need to do...
adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/app
rm launcherproplus.apk
This is going from what I remember. Check the apk name also.
You can do
ls -al before the rm command to list the files in the directory.

Thanks a bunch, but when I do ls -al, it says the launcherpro.apk name is ''LauncherPro Plus v0.8.3.apk''. An .apk isn't supposed to have spaces I guess? Anyway, when I type in rm LauncherPro Plus v0.8.3.apk I get:
# rm LauncherPro Plus v0.8.3.apk
rm: can't remove 'LauncherPro': No such file or directory
rm: can't remove 'Plus': No such file or directory
rm: can't remove 'v0.8.3.apk': No such file or directory
Can you try putting the apk name in quotes?
rm "xxxx.apk"
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
No, that didn't work either... damn
Tried single quotes? rm 'Xxx xx.apk'
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
When I tried that I got:
# rm 'LauncherPro Plus v0.8.3.apk'
rm: can't remove 'LauncherPro Plus v0.8.3.apk': Directory not empty
At least seems like a step forward
And you're booted into recovery?
Also, try putting
su
Before issuing the command.

Guess like this; su rm 'LauncherPro Plus v0.8.3.apk'
but that gave me permission denied.
I tried booting into recovery earlier, but when I did that ''adb remount'' didn't work.
btw, i really appreciate all your help. thanks a lot mate
Ok, you need to be in recovery.
There's an option in one of the menus to 'mount system' - choose that.
Then try
adb shell
cd /system/app
rm 'xxxxxx.apk'
You wont have access to delete from /system while your phone is booted as I don't think you're S-OFF.

It worked! Thank you so much! You literally saved my day!
No problem mate, happy to help
Might be worth taking a backup for the future

Hi Guys,
I am having pretty much the exact same problem as CH3Z, however i'm having problems locating LauncherPro.apk (free ver).
I've tried using the ls -al command and it doesnt show up there so i'm stuck @ the moment on what to do. I understand that i need the exact name of the apk but i dont know where it is. Any help would be appreciated.
Am running SuperNova Gingersense ROM.
Any ill effects from pushing framework-res.apk with the phone booted into Android? I know nothing will take effect until I restart.
I'm doing some theming and rebooting to recovery, puhsing, then back to system is getting old.

I can't understand you. I am rooted.
It is perfectly safe to push framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk while the phone is booted.
After pushing the apk, just use 'adb reboot' to make the phone reboot and to make the changes take effect.
Also, anyone who doesn't know, if you get a message about the file system being read-only, simple use 'adb remount' and attempt to re-push the apk.

Pushed framework-res.apk while phone was boot then used adb reboot. When my phone rebooted all of my accounts (Google, Dropbox, and Exchange) were gone, had to re-create them!
This is on CM10.
Never had any of my accounts disappear after pushing my modified framework back to my phone.
i have an e4gt screen cracked and i need to get internal sd card data. i have done several searches and have come across ADB pull but not clear on how to perform this. i am rooted w stock 4.1 using whatever recovery came with the stock+rooted ROM. (SPH-D710_GB27_1014481_Rooted_Nodata.tar.md5 from Rwilco12's Android Repository). If I could just remember the exact steps to mount usb from recovery i would be good lol... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Ive the same problem if someone would help.

No need. Just power up your device and connect to your pc. It will connect using mtp and allow you to access your files that way (as long as you hadn't deactivated it prior to cracking your screen.)

i have done that and i get a box that says "there was a problem installing this MTP device." then another box says MTP was not installed correctly. Well i do have the Samsung drivers installed. Even installed a fresh copy direct from samsung support. Maybe something to do with my screen being locked with pin? Just got the Galaxy4 cant wait to get my data back...lol
Okay, assuming you already have android SDK set up and working ( you get adb this way), flash a recovery. I would likely use the direct boot for simplicity.
http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.p...overy Kernels/GB/Noobnl Direct Boot/One-Click
That is for the one click version of the direct boot kernel/recovery. It is gingerbread based, but that shouldn't matter if it will boot the ROM later a due to kernel mismatch due to the broken screen lol.
Give it some time too verify you are in the recovery. Now the magic. Find where your adb is at, usually within android/platform_tools if memory serves. You can do a system search for adb and it should pop up. Move to that location. Make a note of the exact path to that location. Now open a command prompt (search for cmd.exe). You then need to switch to the location of your adb. It should be something like the "cd c:/path/to/adb" (no quotes) where you fill in the path you noted earlier. Once there, give this a go. Type "adb devices" (again no quotes) and if you get a string of numbers that means you have adb access!!! Then you can just type "adb pull /sdcard/" and that will drop the contents of your internal storage into the folder holding your adb files (kind of a mess but it is the easiest way to do it). If you would rather it be dropped in a location of your choosing, use this "adb pull /sdcard/ /path/to/desired/location/" and note there is a space between /sdcard/ and your path to desired location.
I am not expert at this, but let me know if you get stuck somewhere in this and I will try to help.

Was just wondering if there is a way to replace the framework with just using root without a custom recovery for the stock Rom?
On my s3 I couldn't do it with just root don't know if that would work on this or if I might have missed something.

All you need is to be rooted, it does not matter if you have custom recovery or not.
You can install any apk's since you do not need to go into recovery to install apks.
When I tried with root only before on a different phone I used root explorer to replace.
But when I went to paste it in the folder the phone locked up and rebooted.
Was that not the right way to do it?
Maybe using adb terminal would be better and not cause it to lock and reboot when I paste over the existing framework-res.apk.
Being in the system directory causes some issue with being that is also a constant used file.

The framework-res.apk should be installed like any other app
unless the OP of wherever you got it from gives instructions
to "copy" it to the /system/app folder.
Why not do it the default normal way? just double click on it
when you are in root explorer and it should install like any
other app. If it gives an error, then you can copy it.
If you "copy" it you have to fix permissions and you have to
change the attributes of the /system/app folder so it's "read and write".
NOTE: if there is an existing framework-res-apk in /system/app
delete it with root explorer before doing any of the above.
Framework-Res.apk must reside in system directory. /system/framework to be exact.
Easiest way to do it without locking up is with adb.
You were right OP that it locks up because it's consistently being used. When I make my mods and such to the framework, this is how I quickly get it to the device.
adb remount (if the kernel supports it in other words, anything but stock)
Turn phone screen on
Adb shell stop (your phone should now have a black screen. This command stops all running threads except the one for adb)
Adb push framework-Res.apk /system/framework
Adb shell chmod 644 /system/framework/framework-Res.apk
Adb shell start
You should now see the boot animation then the prompt "android is upgrading"
If you do not have adb remount option (it returns with permission denied)
Copy new framework Res apk to root of internal sd card.
Adb shell stop
Adb shell mount -o remount,rw /system
Adb shell cp /sdcard/framework-Res.apk /system/framework/framework-Res.apk
Adb shell chmod 644 /system/framework/framework-Res.apk
Adb shell start
Just a pointer, disregard my capitalization. Only capitalize when needed.
This method should get everything copied successfully. Any issues just post back!

Oh thank you very much.
I will give that a try and sounds exactly like what I was looking for.

Not sure if this is really relevant but...
When I had the samsung vibrant, I used root explorer to make a copy of my framework-res.apk. I extracted the entire thing, found my battery icon files, replaced them with different images given the same name, then repacked the file. Then I copied it back to the original folder to replace the original apk and my phone immediately shut off and rebooted. When it came back I had my new battery icon working just as I had hoped. I was rooted running stock.
Wait... Are you saying that I can simply copy the framework-res.apk from SlimKat and use it on a Google Play Edition ROM?
I'm going to try it!
