lolz. It's spam. I do find it intriguing that they are still calling it the iPhone5 and not the 4s. Click on it...if you dare... Mwahahahaha!!!
EDIT: if you get text messages or phone calls from unknown numbers, don't answer or interact in any way. Google the phone number, it usually gives some more information. IF YOU ANSWER, REPLY OR INTERACT, IT MEANS YOUR PHONE NUMBER IS ATTACHED TO A REAL HUMAN BEING. Which means a LOT more spam.
Also check for any apps you recently downloaded that may be causing this.
Not too sure if a Addons or Airpush detector from the Market would help determine if one of your apps is in fact the culprit.
It's not an app. This is going around. I got one too.

Virus spam. Do not reply.
Yeah, a few of us got this over the weekend. It's either spamming a list or known cell numbers, spamming every number in the hopes of getting a mobile line, or it's due to malware that people are installing and which is then scanning their contact list.
End result it the same. Junk spam most likely trying to build a new botnet or phish data. Avoid at all costs and block if on google voice.

I downloaded the Addons Detector after I kept getting these notifications (although mine had a star icon on the notification bar). Found out that it was a theme in Go Launcher that was sending the garbage. Great detector, there's a bunch of options you can choose to filter what you want to look for (eg: advertising, analytics, licensing, push notifications, etc...)

Very cool. Thanks!
Installed, went to set up profile, program force-closes every time I click "edit name." As much as I like Grindr, I think I'm going to uninstall this.
[before anyone asks, I did fix permissions and restart the phone.]
J~
is this what i think it is?
If it doesn't force close, it just says there's an error.
Ahaha, just what I needed. Not! Lol I should prob Google a app first before blindly downloading

Yes it is, there a problem sir? :]
I've been running this for a couple of weeks. I have the same bug in that I can't edit any of the free text to add a name, headline etc. Chat and pics seem to work ok though. I have a funny feeling that grindr are trying to censor information about this alpha as nothing seems to show up about it on twitter etc.
Does anyone know - or can anyone find out where the settings are stored for profile - are they on the phone or on the grindr server? If on the phone perhaps a config file could be hacked.
When it doesn't force close, I can't get it to even sign on to their network. I'll have to stick with scruff for now
I have a feeling settings are stored on their server, since they were working on letting you use the same profile on multiple devices.

I'm not gay, but intolerance is just so ****ing wrong, PERIOD. You have a right to free speech in america, but maybe you should sit the next few rounds out.

Trying to view xda on my laptop I'm getting this message with no real way out of it.
Warning: This Is A Scam Site
Sorry for the interruption, but the site you are currently visiting is not then real XDA-Developers....
There is a report a link but then it wants me to log into my Google account. What's the deal with this?

I got it too, even on tabs already opened to a thread on XDA. Very odd. I killed them quickly

*** Apparently already reported and known. In this case it was a mistake in the coding.

Getting the same thing in one of my computers here at work. The one where I´m writing now doesn´t show the warning, though.

I got it too on my HTC 4G LTE using stock browser.
I suspect it's a scam popup ad. Very clever.
It was a slight goof by the admins and has been resolved now.
Yup, it's sorted out now. This was a coding error. The real XDA won't show this, and there was no hack etc...
I just restored an EL29 Android and fired up the stock browser to do a Google search since I set Google.com as my homepage. It got changed to a different site that looked similar to Google but wasn't.

I just downloaded an antivirus app, I might do a second one just to make sure, and will run it once I finish with this post. I will Google the site to see if anyone else experienced this. I've never seen this before.
Edit: Ran Google search and some people were saying they got it from brightest flashlight. I did dl it and run it to see if I had and screen burn in (I did :-( ). I had already uninstalled the program before running the browser. At the bottom of the dev's page on g play, it said the app adds a search shortcut to your home screen and changes your default browser homepage. I couldn't recreate this behavior. If this is/was true, this is very uncool of the dev company. I didn't see it in the bottom of the description in the play market because there was a lot of text there. Reading the user agreement was kind of counter productive. What I mean is when you run the app for the first time, it turns on the camera led and brings up the EULA. You can't read it and turn off the led. So, read the EULA but shorten the lifespan of your camera led. Nice. I font know if that was the guilty app for me either. Scan turned up nothing but something inside the autoroot.zip file I downloaded and have on the card. Something about elf:looter-h (pub).
Happened to me before but i caught really fast too ...i think it has to do with those wierd third party apps you manually install ...some can be screwy man!

U have malware....search airpush in the market and it will show u an app that will detect what is on ur phone causing the issue.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Ran airpush detector and it found nothing. Addons detector found lots but they were from legitimate apps. I'm not running any warez either. Slideme.org has gave me crap before from one of their apps offered. I forgot what it was.
That sucks. Guess u never know what's being downloaded and how many employees leave good reviews for an app. Best bet is only DL stuff from devs that have several apps with good reviews, like teslacoil.

since the update to jellybean i have not been able to call local places by saying ie call gamestop and it calls the closest gamestop to me. it either pulls up random contacts or says no contact found and leaves a search bar for videos about the said business. anyone else with this prob? or a fix?
i have the same issue.. my guess is we have to wait for google.
If I say call game stop or any business it trays to call a contact in my phone that sounds nothing gets like what I say lol

Same problem here. The old google search was great for calling local businesses. Has Google addressed this issue?
Thank Apple and their idiotic patents for that. Google had to strip a few features to try and stop a sales ban from happening in the future.
Don't worry if Google comes out on top in the end it may be added back.

I do not believe this is why it doesn't work. If I clear the data on Google search (or reinstall the app) the voice search will work just like before. I say call "business" and it finds the nearest and dials it. After a few hours it will stop working and only pull up my contacts. If it was a feature removed then it wouldn't work at all. It definitely appears to be a bug. Very frustrating bug.
Instead of saying call "business".. say "business" phone number and it pulls up the closest numbers In Your area..
I use this to call dominos about 2 to 3 times a week.. lol
I say "dominoes phone number" and it pulls up the 3 closest to me..
Hope this helps..

So I thought it may just be me but after getting a fee people to test it seems this site is trying to install malicious software when you visit and are not logged in (mobile device) I've included some screen shots as I think this is quite a big security breach with the amount of users here..

Isn't the while point if the forums to stop things like this? I sure as hell don't expect XDA DEVS to need to install this app on my own phone. I was under the assumption that developers could be trusted on here so why the need for this? Also a simple search on Google flags it as malware

Thank you for reporting this - this isn't something XDA itself is promoting but it is coming through one of our ad networks and we have been unable to track it down. Did it take you to the play store to install that App? Or did it download the APK directly?
Thanks for responding.First time was just for the apk second time it was play store

I go that on a different site yesterday. Bad popup ad with no ability to click out of it. What happens when a site doesn't screen their advertisers, they get to look like idiots.
As a note, my bet is it's "Clean Master" as I'm seeing that same general popup without the virus warnings today.
I applied xda reconized contributer form last month . I got a reply including a link containing comments of my application reviewer . I just follow that link , but I get Notification from my antivirus about bug contents .

Time to install an ad blocker.
Sorry guys, but safety first.
I always thought that those were fake. They trick you into thinking that you have a virus , then the app you install to remove the virus is the actual virus. I just click those off
