Having spent time looking on here, I cannot seem to find the info I need... I rooted pre-AAHK (by downgrading and using visionary), so am not sure if I would be able to use the Hack Kit to un-root my phone
I realise that running the correct RUU is likely to be the way to go... what about S-Off? As far as I have read, running the RUU does not put your phone back to S-On.
Would someone mind letting me know if this is the correct order to do things:
Downgrade to 1.32 (by running the 1.32 WWE ruu) - Would it be possible to run 1.32 WWE ruu regardless of what my CID currently is? Also, would this give me WWE/unbranded CID?
Temp root with visionary.
Use the S-Off tool to get to S-On. If wanting to return to carrier branded, then you would also be able to change the CID to whichever Carrier ID wanted.
Install RUU of choice, be that branded or non-branded.
I think that's it... if someone could confirm if I've got this right or let me know if I've gone for overkill?
Cheers all!
I suggest you download AAHK and RTFM, it is included in the download.

Yes... thanks... I have already read this post explaining that the AAHK can unroot but, as I said...

As I rooted pre-AAHK and I used jkoljo's tool to get both Radio and ENG S-Off and changed my CID to SUPERCID, I was not sure that I would be able to use the hack kit to do the unroot... especially if I want to return my phone to branded... the way that I understand the AAHK would work is that it would put my phone back to unbranded

Hi everyone!
This is the situation:
I got my unlocked HTC Desire HD from an authorized store but when I started it (at home) I've noticed that is branded from T-mobile Germany.
Since I use a Vodafone SIM, I decided to unbranded it. So I installed this stock ROM: RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.6_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26 .03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed. I followed the steps described in a thread on this forum, using Visionary and One click S-OFF tool. Everything was just fine. My device works without any problem except one: can't find OTA updates.
WHAT COULD IT BE? IS THERE SOMETHING I COULD MAKE TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE?
Thank you in advance,
joaquin
As far as I know, once you have s-off and root and a custom Rom installed, the ota update will not work. If you want the update you will need to install a custom Rom running the new update.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
I understood that the stock ROM is not a customized ROM.
And I checked in bootloader and the first row looks like this:
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON
Doesn't this mean that my device has S-ON?
Is it possible that my device to be still rooted? If yes, is there a solution to make it unrooted?
Joquin
To be more specific, when i say can't find OTA updates, I mean I don't receive notification about updates and when I manually check it says "There are no updates available for your phone."
Do you know which CID you have on phone?
I had rooted, Eng S-Off and Radio S-Off (Super CID-11111111) on phone and phone found OTA update. Although I didn't tried to install it since in that way I'll be loosing root.
If I understand correctly youre still on 1.32 and you want to aquire root and S-OFF AND you want to update to 1.72?
If that is what you want, you will not be needing a prompt from your phone to update the system, because that way you will not be keeping root/S-OFF after the update.
Ensure you have BOTH Eng S-OFF and Radio S-OFF and you did temproot with visionary+. Check IVO's refference thread for that.
Its gotta work.
Then, for updating the phone correctly, take your time to read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885996
its not an easy guide for beginners (such as myself), but if you read the entire thread you will eventually get out. I did too.
I'm sorry, but I don't know where to find the CID number.
In the bootloader doesn't appear.
Joaquin
@maurei
I know if I will update to 1.72 is not possible to root at this moment and probably I will not make this update. But I want the OTA updates working not only for now.
Thank you anyaway
Joaquin
ah, hit quick reply instead of edit I guess.. soz for the dubble post, del this one
Thats what I'm saying my friend - you CAN have root AND 1.72
Its not possible to root fromin 1.72, but it IS possible to maintain root as you upgrade from 1.32 to 1.72 .
Reading my previous post made me realize it wasn't so clear.

I meant:
Then, for updating (=manually installing the update through recoverymode) the phone correctly (correctly =MAINTAINING ROOT and S-OFF), follow that guide.
Be sure you have ENG S-OFF and Radio S-OFF + permroot with Visionary+.
Also, be sure not to remove any preinstalled apps as this will cause unnecessary problems during the install
Sorry if I wasn't able to make myself clear.
My goal is not to have a rooted device. Maybe in the future I'll make this step if it will be necesary.
I want my device as new one, from store. I explained in the first post of this thread why I'm in this situation.
Through this thread I want to find a way to get OTA updates.
BTW, I understood that if the device is rooted OTA updates aren't possible. So I installed visionary+ and I used the "unroot now" button and I received this message: "your device doesn't appear to be rooted" or something like this.
It seems is not about unroot or s-on (see the 3rd post, too).
Anyway, if somebody has any idea, it would be apreciated to share.
Thanks,
Joaquin
You should at least get radio s-off before you upgrade. You'll thank me later if you decide you do actually want root.

Hi,
I recently received my DHD branded to '3' and all i wanted to do was revet to the official htc unbranded version.
After reading up on the subject i created a gold card and downgraded to 1.31.405.6 which seeems to have done the trick with regard to unbranding.
The question i have is do i need to go through all the other steps i keep reading about (s-off, radio-off etc.) if i just want the phone to stay unbranded, or can i now carry on using the phone as normal?
If i am able to carry on, am i ok to upgrade to the latest htc unbranded version (via OTA or through htc sync) or will that cause me problems?
Thanks
If you followed the guide, you are currently using 1.32.405.6. The 1.31.405.6 is just to fool the device
You can use it normally, no problem. You can change the CID to HTC__001 (unbranded) using Radio S-OFF Tool, but you do not have to do Radio S-OFF if you do not want to. Just use the Stock CID option. You only need Visionary temproot. CID = carrier ID. Radio Tool can also Sim Unlock your device if it is locked.
Ok So i need to install visionary and do the temp root (i take it i don't need to permaroot after this?)
Then open easy radio tool and change the CID to htc_001.
After this is done is my phone in a completely unbranded state (as if i has bought it that way)? If so am i safe to update the phone via official htc methods?
Also what would i have to do in order to restore the phone to branded (in the event i needed to send it back)? Has the gold card/downgrade prcedure i followed made a back up of the branded software?
Sorry for all the questions, it's just i want to be clear before i carry it all out!
You do not need to permroot. After you set CID to HTC_001, you can use WWE HTC RUUs normally, but you cannot receive OTAs due to stupid "dual" CID in branded phones.
When you want to return to branded, just get stock RUU from XDA, change your CID to stock (you can find it [stock] out via terminal emulator, type "getprop ro.cid") and run the RUU. Downgrade method does not back up your stock ROM, it is unfortunately not possible to make a backup at that point.
Ok i have used visionary to temproot and the used easy radio tool's stock cid option to change it to HTC_001.
How do i go about updating to the latest htc unbranded firmware now? i assumed i could go through the phone now it is unbranded but it came back saying the phone was up to date with 1.32.405.6 on it! Also you have stated below i am unable to update in this way.
All is i want is the latest official firmware and the ability to easily update when any future releases come out
Thanks for your help so far - really appreciated!
There is no newer ROM available, HTC pulled the update due to bugs and problems.
You can however use 1.72.405.3 RUU to update, get that from the dev subforum.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
is 1.72.405.3 the version you said was pulled by htc?
I want to change from 1.32.707.5 to 1.32.405.6 since I couldn't get some needed apps like Google Maps 5.1 from market due to the region my phone came from Asia, can I just
temproot to achieve this or it requires permroot using visionary to do this task

Yes, it was out there for a couple of weeks maybe, but then it just disappeared.
I have seen some threads about un-rooting for warranty claims, but want a definite answer before doing anything.
My DHD has ENG S-OFF, Radio S-OFF and Clockwork Mod Recovery, and basically I want someone to be able to tell me/ point me in the direction of files and instructions for returning my handset to 1.32 stock with no superuser, custom recovery or s-off's of any kind.
Also, if the engineers where to update my phone like i know their prone to doing, is it still possible to downgrade back to 1.32 and root again to get my beloved MIUI back?

you can download a stock rom from the links on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846248
And It'll take the HTC back to it's factory defaults, as if it was new. It'll probably be best to use the RUU (that's what it's called) for Orange UK (if your phone's locked to that, assuming you updated your operator)
HOWEVER! Running an OTA update to gingerbread from the new system'll leave you with a probably unrootable Desire HD (to check if it's still got the radio S-off at least, go into fastboot and check that the CID is just 1's)

So I would install this like a ROM through Clockwork Mod?
So would this RUU remove all of my custom recovery, and S-OFF's? It's just I wanna make sure it's all gone just in case....
So there is no way that these can be downgraded like 1.72 can be?
Narh, you don't flash it through clockwork mod, it's run from your computer. You'll need the HTC Sync application installed on your computer, and a sense rom to connect the phone via htc sync.
When you run the RUU, it'll tell you what to do. I think it removes a ENG S-OFF but but a radio S-OFF'll stay on the phone (it is more or less permanent). However, I don't think the radio s-off'll show up in fastboot that obviously.
The reason you can't downgrade the firmware on RUUs is because in the process of rooting, the phone's CID changes to 111111111 (or something) so the PD98IMG file for downgrading will refuse to work with the phone because of an "Incorrect CID"

It's been a while since i had to use a RUU, but I believe it should work with any rom.
Hi,
I have HTC Desire GSM, rooted, s-off. Because of some issues with the proximity sensor i want to unroot the phone and send it back to HTC for maintenance. Before continue i must say that i have tried to clean the sensor, tried to remove the screen protector but the problem remains
However, i downloaded the hboot downgrade from alpharev site and updated the phone. Now the hboot version is still 6.93.9999 - will it be replaced when i flash the RUU?
Before flash the RUU i want to be sure that i can root the phone again once i get it back from HTC. I used the unrevoked to root my phone but as i see it's for hboot 0.93 and lower. What version of RUU should i use? I prefer to be froyo.
Thanks.
Yes, the bootloader will become S-ON once you use the RUU.
The best option is to use the corresponding RUU to your network provider e.g. my device is branded Vodafone, therefore if I were to send back for warranty purposes I would use the latest Vodafone RUU.
All RUU's are available on www.shipped-roms.com
If you are unable to find the correct RUU for your phone, or are unsure of which one is right for you, simply use the 2.3.3 Gingebread RUU available from htcdev.com (there is also a link available on my guide from #Resources)
Lastly, you can root and S-OFF your phone as many times as you please (Being it is not rooted or S-OFF already)
Thanks for the reply. I have found tha RUU i need
I have read that GB RUU cannot be rooted and i should downgrade to 2.1. So i will use Froyo instead. Thanks a lot

When you get the phone back you're probably more than likely to get it back with 2.2 anyway, also you have read wrong, in addition to the fact that unrevoked is now pretty much obsolete and it is much easier to S-OFF and flash recovery rather than root the stock system.
There are so many threads and it's easy to get confused
I suppose you are talking about 4ext recovery?
What's the way to s-off the phone? Is it still whit alpharev?
I will search a little bit more thank you very much

Use revolutionary instead, it's a lot quicker and easier.
Hello,
I need to send my device back in warranty, and i'm therefor wanting to unroot the phone back to factory state.
Can I simply flash it with one of the RUU's found on shippedroms.com? If yes, which is the one to take? I'm from europe.
If not, what will I have to do? Does it involves any risk bricking it ?
Thanks in advance
I'm fairly new to the matter

How did you root it, AAHK or HTCDEV? For AAHK, you can unroot it with the AAHK tool. For HTCDEV, you can relock it, but I'm not sure if your warranty is still valid.
Onderdak, done it with the advanced ace back kit.
Could you please explain what steps i should do to flash it back coming from aahk.
Can you conform these steps are correct? Does it matter what version of the RUU I choose?
As I have said above, if you used the AAHK to root your phone, then the easiest way to unroot is by using the kit again.
By following on screen prompts, you would select "O" for Options Menu and then "S" for S-On and return to Stock.
You then choose one of three Stock firmware RUU's to put on your phone.
For the majority of people it should be "2" - "Flash Gingerbread WWE RUU", which is unbranded (the AAHK may have to download the RUU, which could take some time).
The Hack Kit would then run the RUU.
Your phone will now be back to unbranded stock Gingerbread.
If you are wanting to bring the phone bang up to date, then you would need to run the latest RUU currently Sense 3.0 (the 4th from bottom in the linked list - build 3.12.405.1).
Your phone will now be back to unbranded stock Gingerbread, with Sense 3.0
Please note that ALL questions relating to the Hack Kit should be addressed in the manual (if you are following the guide to unroot, you already know this, as you used the Hack Kit to root in the first place!)
