I want to make my black e4gt into "panda" ...by replacing the faceplate and battery door...i found white battery door but couldnt find a white faceplate (lcd? thing)
Anyone help?
I am not 100% sure but I think the LCD is attached to the front faceplate so it may be a bit more complicated. That is the impression I got from the ifixit teardown. A Sprint technician would know for sure.
Full Disclosure: I am a Sprint employee. Any opinions are my own and in no way endorsed by Sprint.
Sent from my SGSII on the Sprint network.
Its all one unit, at least you should try to keep it that way. The screen is fused to the middle section. You will need to buy a white housing for the phone.

I know a sprint tech that has some of these parts, could be an interesting business venture.
I can get them, it usually takes a week or two though. I have a couple black ones at my house. I just started using the white.
yeah ive got a ton of black ones, just have to wait for people to return good white ones is a pain since everyone loves the phone.
i would also be interested in this. off topic, but would it be possible to simply switch phones with someone that has a white one (maybe someone of craigslist?) and just have the accounts switched at a sprint store? I might look into a trade plus a little cash to get my hands on a white one
Thats a lot of black ones. I imagine you mean figuratively.

It's a new record for me... I had my new Aria/Liberty/Intruder all set up and inside of three days dropped and T-boned the screen
Anyone have ideas on where to find parts for a Aria? I understand HTC is notoriously slow about releasing aftermarket parts. The repair guy I took my phone to encouraged me to help him find the part.
Many thanks-

I used to order all my blackberry parts from here. Very good reveiws. There across the seas but shipping is usually quick and even faster if you bump it up.http://cnn.cn/shop/htc-aria-c-277_1068.html
Thanks Kudvu002! You saved the day!
I found one on ebay, but the shipping's not as quick.
Have you tried taking it apart yet? I'm trying to get a little insight on the disassembly. It seems like you can pop off the top yellow cover but I wasn't able to get it off and didn't want to force it.
anyone knows where to buy the digitizer for the Aria? cnn.cn shows the digitizer in stock,, but when you go to checkout it says it is not....
Ordered mine about a week ago but it says it was shipped, now I just gotta get it apart!

So I followed the tutorial found on android forums, it was relatively easy, i forgot to take pictures of the steps but i can write a tutorial if anyone wants it, because the tutorial on A.F. is a little vague. But I have found a solution to the cracked screen problem, I went to Best Buy to see if they had the Zagg shield (which they do, it's for the Intruder/Aria/Liberty) but they also had a new case which looks a little more resilient against dropping. The case is made by Superior Communications (BB item number 35307BBR) and is pretty rugged looking, anyways let me know if you want a tutorial written up, i will try to get some pics to do it with.
so I'm about to replace mine.. any tutorial with pics available?
for those of you that have ordered and recieved their replacement digitizers, are they AT&T branded still?

Yes they are.. and they are not original part... there are some differences... and after the installation you will have the light that turns on the -home- menu-back-search buttons to filter into the screen. I finished up adding the insurance and getting a brand new for $50.00 and sold the old one for 200

I can have a tutorial up by tomorrow, unfortunately with pics of the full install but close enough to get you there. The screen I bought was an HTC oem screen and ATT branded, there aren't any that aren't branded so far. Lemme get the tutorial together and ill post it tomorrow.

I've seen this phone shown off a few times withut the AT&T branding and with just the HTC logo at the top/middle and would prefer that digitizer.
(and no I wasn't mistaking the HD Mini for the Aria lol) Wonder how long before those are available. Probably will have to wait until another carrier gets the phone IF anyone else decides to even pick it up.
The button light issue is quite a drag tho. Sucks. You could try to add some sort of tiny strip above the capacitive buttons area to shield the light from leaking into the viewable screen area.
here is a good video showing a Disassembly of the phone, it might help.

doing this now...it is a HUGE pain in the ass
ok, to anyone who tries this BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU PULL THE RIBBON OUT
I pulled too hard and like an asshole I broke the "plug" piece off of the ribbon and it's stuck in the "socket"
looks like it's time to try and scam AT&T again
I ordered a kit that has the back door, frame and faceplate, back door and frame are white. I paid 59.99 that included the tools (t5, t6, philips, removal tool, and suction cup)
I will post pics of progress and how to.
I purchased this on eBay btw.

FYI....all original white EVO's sku and ESN are in the system as white EVO. Be careful if you have to return your evo to sprint, they'll see that it's a black evo and could deny your claim.
I'm aware of that. And if I had to return it then I would want to keep my white housing for my next phone. Thanks for the heads up though.
Can you link to the seller for the kit?

While this is semi correct, the ESN plate is attached to the board, not the rear frame. It's considered an accessory and would be seen as such. Same as with a Blackberry, you can get a custom color front faceplate, that doesn't change the fact that it's a Inferno just because there's a chrome faceplate on it.
Also, to save you some potential work:
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/HTC-Evo-4G-Teardown/2979/1
That link provides an entire teardown. Just reverse it with your new rear frame.

Dang, it's ended. Would love to have that, keep Us posted....
I was kind of disappointed only the back was white. But I've been wanting one forever and that was the only color in stock.
I was wondering if we can buy parts for our phones i would love to do a panda themed phone. (Black bezel with white batt door and front plate)
I had two HTC Android phones, and was able to pick up body parts for them, but even though I had pretty popular models, some parts were hard to come by.
You might google "Epic 4G Touch chassis" or "body" or use the model number...
See what you come up with.
Phone might be both too new for manufacturers to be making replacement parts yet, or might be a too-low-volume model for them to care about. It's a Sprint-only body.
You can get parts off ebay. Either search for the specific part, or search for epic touch, then narrow down the search by clicking cell phones, then replacement parts. I just bought the white housing for $50.

wouldn't they just replace it with the exact same model?
BTW, I talked my wife into taking my black one over the weekend, and grabbed a white one with her upgrade....they are really sharp!!
I still don't understand all of the white hype. I think the black looks cleaner, sexier... The white one looks "toyish" to me. I wonder if its just because they are a newer model that people are more drawn to them?
the aluminum trim around the outside of the case gives it a really nice contrast; plus, I put a Wrapsol on the phone, and, the capactive lights on the bottom, and the notification light on the top, have a really nice erie "glow" to them now..
I had a white Evo as well; I guess I just like to have something a bit different..

Yeah, I guess your right... I'll have to admit, before I saw the light I used to have a white iphone, I liked it at the time. Maybe that is why I dislike the white now, maybe the white for me has some kind of subconscious apple/iphone association thing.
plus, in my house, my wife has the same phone, so it makes it easier if we have different colors to keep track of who's phone is where!
Frankly, if they had a blue or red one, I would probably like those too!

Blue and Red... Now there's an idea
I was looking at the Galaxy note this weekend, and they have a blue one which looked really nice!
I had to bring my phone in for warranty reasons and asked since they have to give me a new one could it be the white one they said absolutely not has to be the same color. Got me mad too considering they are both the same damn thing same price and everything. So to answer your question, no they will not.
I just think it looks slicker but maybe its more of what I don't have. Just looks sick!! I don't have insurance tho oh well.

I think your right... I think it it is more of what you don't have. I bet if the white ones came out first, everyone would be wanted the black ones.
Hoping to hear from people who have dealt with this before. Cracked my screen pretty badly but luckily (relatively...) it still works as far as i know. I don't have insurance and while I'm gonna deal with it for now I'd eventually like to get it replaced, fixed, or upgrade to a new phone. What are ballpark figures for cost considering my contract isn't up for another year and a half and i don't have insurance? What would you do if you were in my situation?

my advice: get it fixed
newalker91 said:
Sprint will not repair the screen, so that's not an option. Replacing the phone would be around $250 cheapest for a used device, $550 for a retail price device. Sending it in to a 3rd party repair company would cost you the $150 for the screen plus hourly labor, making it closer to $200. Factor in shipping cost and you may as well buy a phone.
Replacing the screen is easy. Undo the 6 philips head screws in the back housing, work a thin plastic wedge around the rim and pop the housing off. Undo the two screws on the board, unclip the ribbon cables, reverse the process onto the new screen. Takes about 15 minutes if you haven't done it before.

If you do find just the glass they don't seal right then they look worse than a cracked screen.
Why not just add insurance and get it fixed that way

Sprint won't allow that. If that were the case everybody would be doing that.
If I were you I would buy dude's screen who is posted above this post and after that I would go on YouTube to see if I could find a video on how to assemble or replace the Epic touch's screen. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
If I helped you out in any way please thank me. Thanks.
If the Insurance was added the best you could do is process and insurance claim and get a refurbished phone for $100.
Changing out the screen is pretty simple. Just make sure you watch the camera connection at the top and the one at the bottom of the board. Every DIYer seems to miss those two.
It's very unfortunate that our assemblies cost so much, when the iphone assembly is like 40 bucks and to get it installed will run about 90 if you don't do it yourself. Our phone seriously needs cheaper replacement parts.

You can search on Craigslist and eBay for phones with bad esn. And simply make one working out of two.
You can ask on forums for people who bricked their phones beyond returning point and sprint refuses to help them.
But of the guy above gives you a good deal. Take it.

Yes, I went in the day it happened and asked if they could replace it or what my options were. Other than buying a new phone for retail price, they said they couldn't do anything and didn't even do the repairs themselves. They just referred me to World of Wireless (I called them and they were charging $250 for the 'custom order' repair they'd have to do).
Buy a new one off Amazon for $8.00 and install it yourself. It take about a half hour and save a bunch of money
