Thought I would ask first... my SD card will not mount on my phone. Data seems to still be there but I have a notification saying "sdcard is blank or has unsupported filesystem." Tried to format but the card wont mount on the device. I've tried formatting in the android os and in recovery with errors. Does this mean the SD card is toast? Any help is appreciated. I'd hate to lose all of the data. Thanks.

At work right now and our computers are on lockdown, no external devices can be read. If I can access what should I do? When I tried repartitioning in recovery it said it could not mount dev/block/mm? ?? Or something like that, basically gave me an error. Any advice? Im about to just buy a new card.

You might just need to reformat the card. Sometimes the cards get corrupted. You might even still be able to access and backup the content on the card if a PC will read it. If you have WIndows 7, it might even offer to repair errors on the card. That could also get it working. I'd say reformatting it is a good idea either way.
i just had similar error... try removing and reinserting card. if that doesnt do it reboot into recovery and depending on the recovery you are using go in to mounts and try selecting "mount sd card" that last one fixed my issue.

I ended up just buying a replacement 8GB class 10 card (wanted a higher class card anyways, this gave me an excuse to buy one ). I was able to retrieve the contents of the SD card by mounting it in my computer (vista 32). I didn't try reloading it into my Evo cause now I don't have a need for it. Thanks for the responses though, glad that you guys are here and willing to help.:thumbup:

Hi. I was loading a rom in recovery and first wiped system and data. when I went install the new rom I got the error "E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (no such device)". In other words, I have wiped the old and it cant find the new rom.
Previously I rooted by UnRevoked so I have not previously set up android sdk.
Am I screwed
Thanks
Have you tried a different SD card or the CD card in another PC?
Could be a faulty sd, or if not maybe try cleaning the contacts on the card and phone?
the card seems ok. It can be read via USB from recovery.
Is there any way I can set up a terminal connection and flash a rom from my computer?
I'm having the exact same issue with r6. The SD just won't mount even in recovery. When this happens there is literally nothing else to do, we need a solution!!!
Sorry to hear it Doogle. Im out of ideas too
Pretty lucky to not be the only one tho
Just so you know, mine is definitely USB bricked, but the SD thing is stopping me from being able to fix this.
It's quite unusual.
Any idea if its possible to set up a terminal?
or does usb bricked mean your comp cant see the phone?
I set up a thread earlier to find that out. No replies
Yeah when the phone is USB bricked the PC just can't detect it,
so it's impossible to flash RUUs, so I'm up against the wall unless
I can get this working
When Clockworkmod didn't find my SD, but card reader showed it ok, I used SDFormater to reformat card (remowed all partitions) and when formated in recovery.

You're not using quick format option are you?
Because a proper full format is much more effective,
and takes a while to complete.
i am now waiting for sdformatter to do its magic. I hope it it learnt to format at Hogwarts!
nope. It still cant mount it
Ok, so I have a HTC EVO 4G and it's currently rooted running a MikRom. Recently, for some reason, when I plug my phone to a Mac or a Windows computer it does not recognize the phone in USB Mode. Specifically on my windows pc, I get a
"USB Device not recognized One of the usb devices attached has malfuntioned etc.. and I went through the process of trying to install the driver but nothing
I have also unmounted the card in settings and mounted it back and still nothing.. What I was going to do was completely erase my SD Card but will that erase my Root however?
It will not erase root.

Think about it like this; can you take your SD card out ans have the phone run perfectly fine? Then you can wipe it

It's possible. However, before you do that, take the card out ant put directly into a card reader for a computer. This will let you know if the card is bad, or maybe the phone's reader is bad. If the card is bad, you can try error checking it in Windows, and maybe salvage the data on the card.
But if that doesn't work, try re-formatting it. It may help, it may not. If not, new 8gb cards are only a few bucks now.
Ok I have one at home Ill try

Greetings XDA,
I would love help with my current situation. I am in the military and really need my phone working so my soldiers can contact me ^^;.
I have an HTC Evo, the older (original) version, and followed the steps here:
http: // htcevohacks <dot> com/htc-evo-hacks/root-for-htc-evo-4g-gingerbread-is-here/
It seemed to work just fine, and so I connected my phone to my computer to transfer some files. However, after about a minute, the my computer didn't recognize that my phone was connected anymore and I didn't even have the option for "disk drive" on my drop down list. Apparently, my SD card was unmounting itself. After rebooting and trying again about a dozen times, I decided to bypass the phone/usb deal and connect the sd card directly thought an adaptor. My computer recognized it and opened the drive, but once I tried to delete or move any file, the drive would dismount.
Becoming fustrated, I decided to try and wipe the SD card/format it, but because my phone won't recognize it and it dismounts itself from my computer, I can't do either.
Now my phone only boots into the bootloader and doesn't recognize the SD card at all.
I thank you for taking the time to read my post, and appreciate any help you can provide.
I would try swapping in another sd card

I don't currently have another SD card, nor do I really want to spend money on another one; if I can avoid it.
I've tried formatting the SD card several different ways:
Through basic windows means (Right Click > Format)
Through CMD Prompt
Through Admin Tools - Comp Mgmnt - Disk Mgmnt
Through 3rd party programs, etc
However, whenever I try to move a file to the sd card, move something out of, delete, format, or any other type of specific access, my computer can then no longer recognize it.
Is there any way for me to get my phone past bootloader, without the sd card? I've tried resetting all user data in recovery, but it seems that no matter what I do, I can't get past the bootloader.
Is there anyone out there with a solution?
Perhaps there are other details I can provide, just inquire.
So you can get into recovery? Have you tried formating the sd card with recovery?

What happens when you try to mount sd card in recovery? All in all it may be a bad sd card. And you might have to get a new one. Or if you got a friend that has a spare one you can use.

Thank you for your prompt replies.
Whenever I try to mount/access my sd card on the phone, it simply doesn't find it. I am using the same 8gb sd card that came with the phone, and I've had the phone since day 1 release.
The more and more I try to fix or find a solution to this problem, the more frustrated I am getting; and the more it is seemingly looking hopeless =/.
I've been searching all over for a couple days now and I can't find any solution only people with similar but not exact same problem I'm having. Out of the blue a couple days ago the fat32 partition on my 32GB class10 patriot SD card unmounted and won't mount at all. However the ext4 partition mounts just fine and continues to work as it always has. I also can't plug the card directly into my PC because the adapter that came with the micro SD card appears to not work. My PC doesn't think there is an SD card in it. I tried it with a known good SD card (the 16GB samsung SD card that came with the phone. Which when inserted into the phone mounts and can be used like expected. No new apps where installed or changes made to my phone or the SD card before it stopped working correctly. The same apps and what not have been in use for as long as I have had the 32GB SD card. In fact the currently in use version of CM10.1 has been is use for the last month with no issue regarding the SD card. When I remove the card a notification shows up telling me to insert an SD card. And when I insert the 32GB card the checking SD card notification shows up an a second or two after the SD card is safe to remove notification shows up as if I had told it to unmount the SD card. If I tap on mount SD card in settings the same thing happens. And it also happens after a reboot. CWM can't mount the SD card either. What can I do to fix it so the fat32 partition is usable again?

Have you tried formatting the SD card in recovery?
As I said I can't mount it with CWM either. The card contains the data for my mSecure passwords as that app was forced to the SD card due to JB changes in android so I can't format it until I can recover the data on it. I need a solution to access the data before I can reformat it assuming that it needs to be reformatted. The SD card was supposed to be this fail safe thing and I didn't need to make backups of it as it was the backup storage stuff. So now I'm all freaking out because I can't access it for all the backed up data on top of the data for one critical app that was forced to reside on it. The good news is that only a few apps data is effected by this the bad news is those apps were all very important. I just don't understand why this has happened. And if using a cloud source such as box will be any more secure and safe than using the SD card in light of this; now I don't trust not losing data in the future on a source that was supposed to not have this sort of thing happen.
Maybe the SD card just went bad. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

No problem, it's a problem no easily solved, and is a long shot finding anyone who will be able to help. I looked at dozens of sites and forum threads and all sorts of other stuff from goggle searches and couldn't find a solution to get it to mount in either the phone or on my PC to recover the data from it and find out for sure if it is a bad card or not. It might still be under warranty. If it's not I'll be ticked considering how much it cost and how little time I've had it.

Try installing Recuva on your PC, if this program doesn't work for you then you might wanna try another more advanced recovery program like R-studio v6 (Shareware) which is easy to use since it's GUI based.
or testdisk-6.14-WIP (Freeware) which includes testdisk_win.exe for partition recovery and photorec_win.exe for files and media recovery, but it's kinda complicated since it's based on Command Prompt or DOS! so you need to google for a guide for how to use it.

Wow I somehow never got notified of this post seeing as I'm just now noticing a reply from months ago. Yes I still can't mount the SD card. I took it out and returned to the stock one that came with my phone. I still have the card as I need to recover the data from it and if not possible wipe it somehow so that I can warranty exchange it. Please do let me know what your solution is so that I can try it and see if it works.

The SD card won't mount in my samsung epic and my windows PCs. This was a sudden without warning signs and with no apparent cause. One moment it was fine and the next moment poof. I was looking for a solution to gain access to the files on it to recover whatever I can and if possible repair the card so that it works again. Assuming that it's not a failure of the card itself. It is within the warranty and well within the life expectancy of it. So I suspect it is not a failure of the card itself. I have the option of using ubuntu or other USB stick bootable options for tools as needed.
Hi. Picked up this phone a week ago. I love it. I put a sd card in from another phone. I got it in and it sees it but I cannot read it or format it. Does it have to be a certain sd card to work?
Download file Commander and format sd card, if it won't do it, connect the SD to the PC and format it on NTFS:highfive:
I tired pk unzip but there is no format option. I formated the card with my computer like you said but it still doesn't see it.

Can you see a popup informing you about "SD Card" inserted.
You need to complete that step from the notification menu.
Select it as Media Storage for using it properly.

Hi
So try to format it as FAT32
I do get a notification but everytime I use it, it crashes. I tried the FAT32 format but still get the same results. I am trying this with two different sd cards which work fine in my old phone and laptop. I think it's the phone. Some googling resulted in Xperia phones not being able to read sd cards properly.

Ok so I have an idea, have you been on an airport or over a metal detector? If yes, it means that your SD card or phone got demagnetized (happened also to me with old phone), so buy a Sony SD card that resist to them :good:
