rosie on AOSP - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

you guys know me, i'm not a noob anymore...
but, i was wondering if i could get the rosie from a sense ROM, and apply it on an AOSP ROM (like ILWT)... rosie.apk is a launcher right? just thinking...
and if you can, please upload you rosie.apk file so i could try it without flashing sense then reflash ILWT...
thanks

I'm afraid i must disappoint you, ( i hate being told something is impossible myself) but rosie is more than an .apk . it's an entire framework, meaning it can't simply be flashed as a .zip or installed as a conventional .apk. but it would be really cool if it could be done !

and, some of the guys have put the rosie lockscreen... can someone give me a link? i'm on phone now... so i can't search easily
edit: nevermind about the lockscreen.. i used widget locker...
but i still need someone to make rosie work on AOSP...

The Sense lockscreen only works on Sense ROMs anyway. You can get the Sense 3 lockscreen on a Sense 2 ROM, but not on AOSP, AFAIK.

i don't want the lockscreen anymore... because i'm using widgetlocker now... and it looks similar to the sense 3 lockscreen
anyway, about the rosie, i was thinking that maybe someone could make a launcher, that looks and feels similar to the rosie and works on AOSP... lots of you devs made apps and stuff... so why not make a rosie launcher?
i know... you're probably saying "why don't you do it"... i can't, i'm not a dev, and i'm just too little to be a dev...

Ok, before everyone's e-gos erupt and things get out of hand, take a deep breath.
1) Rosie on a AOSP ROM pretty much isn't going to happen unless you make it. It isn't as simple as pulling an APK and installing it. It is tied deeply into the ROM, same with the HTC widgets, etc.
2) Your best bet if you want a Sense style launcher is to run a Sense ROM, or use a 3rd party launcher, like Go EX, or ADW, and find a theme that does what you want. If you go ROM route, I suggest Revolution HD 7.0 or whatever it is called. I ran it for a few hours to test it out and it is by far one of the fastest and smoothest Sense ROMs I've ran.
3) Dev or not, people will take offense to "Could a dev please make <insert thing>? I am not a dev, blah blah blah." Unless you are willing to fork out some real cash (and I don't mean $10) chances are you won't even get a nibble. Most people do this for fun. It is very rewarding to do things yourself, give it a shot, learn, try out new methods. It is a good way to grow (and if you want to see what can happen to a community, I suggest reading fat_tire's community experiment here). Asking devs to do a project, for one person, for little or no money, just really annoys people.

i'm not a dev, and i'm not asking for a dev... i'm just searching for an already existing solution
and there it is.. launcher themes... thank you all

I don't know exactly what you are trying to accomplish, but it sounds like you are trying to go for a "senseless sense ROM". Before rolling with ICS I too wanted that and found a couple of ROM's that fit that purpose. They have the framework, just not the Rosie Launcher, meaning you have the handy sense things like the dialer, but not the launcher...
Senseless Romeo
LINK
Senseless_Desire

SUPERVILLAINZ

I only tested Senseless Romeo and It was very pretty and worked like a charm.
If I misunderstood and you want it the other way around (just the launcher, not the handy sense things) then have a look at THIS and THIS

No, what i want is an AOSP framework, and a sense launcher... The exact opposit of what you offered

what files are it tied to? its not hard at all to go into the framework-res.apk or the framework folder and replace/add some files to make this work.

Every single one damn near. If you want to get an idea just take the apk then debug it and every time it says "file doesn't exist" or something similiar to that go find that file. Copying files is easy its finding all the ones you need that takes the time.

Magic/ION/Google ROM on the Hero!

Hi Guys!
I have been searching for days if someone has managed to install a clean google rom on his HTC Hero. I can only find people running rooted Hero Roms.
The point is, i want to get rid of all the HTC Apps. I've managed to delete a lot of the stock applications, and it improved the speed a lot!
If i install any other "Magic based rom" the phone will hang on the HTC boot screen.
If i push original google apps like "contacts.apk/.odex" to the phone, they won't run.
Can someone port the original Magic/ION rom to the Hero please? I know a lot of people want to run a "clean android" rom on the hero.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
My phone is rooted now with Modaco / CyanogenMod v1.4 + JF.

I cannot see the point why someone would want that . No offense , i mean all the HTC customisation and Rosie was the whole point in buying this device instead of the HTC Magic( which has the exact same specifications and a way lot cheaper)

To be honest, i don't really know why i bought the hero. I didn't know much about android at the time i bought one. Now i know better, but anyway, that's not what i want to discuss..
The magic can almost run any rom, why can't the hero run any rom i want?

Please people, i don't want to be a jerk, but don't come up with questions like "Why did you buy a hero then?" ..

I'm on the same boat. When I bought my hero I hadn't really seen any working Android phone, either stock or HTC. Now that I have seen both I think that the stock apps and interface are somehow saner than HTC's, and what can I say? I'd prefer to use them.
Why don't you run the Rosie remover. It will get you part of the way to where you want to go
Indeed! but I also prefer the stock browser, the stock music player, the stock calendar, the stock contact list and dialer... and so on. They look less flashy but handier to my taste.
I totally agree with, frandavid100. I would also love to have a vanilla android rom on my Hero.
Actually, why do magic roms not work with the hero? What kind of modification would you have to do for them to work?

I think that the hero rom is not like the win rom. i mean all the htc customisations superimposed on the windows ones. There, all we had to do was just to remove the htc ones and we automatically got the windows ones.
I guess android's different. we have to remove all the htc customisations and add android's ones. Problem is hero never had the android's applications. what could be done is take a magic rom, remove all the applications and try to port them to the hero.
Problems would definetely arise cause the 2 phones are not 100% identical. some software work on the magic but not on hero bla bla bla.
I know some stock apps do work with the hero. I have been able to use the stock calendar and browser in my hero by replacing the apk and odex files, however replacing the contacts app makes it hang.
We could try to make a list of what apps can be replaced and how, or maybe even make update.zip files specific for that, similar to modaco's rosie remover. How difficult would that be?

I think that you'll probably find that the difference here is that chefs with a Magic or G1 actively want to "upgrade" to the latest and greatest ROMs. So, when presented with a Hero ROM, they will make the effort to back port it to the hardware they have.
The situation with the Hero is a little different. Here we already have the "latest and greatest", so there is probably very little motivation for a chef to port what is essentially an earlier ROM to the Hero. What you need to find is a chef who has a Hero, who either wants to run stock android, or is interesting in the intellectual challenge!
So, it's not really the case that "the magic can almost run any rom" - it's that their are chefs with Magics who are building these ROMs.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks guys!
I knew i wasn't the only one who wanted a clean vanilla android rom on the hero. Like frandavid100 said before, till there's another "magic rom" or something, we could make a list of apps working on hero.
I've had the same thing with the Contacts.app. This makes the phone freeze, and after removing the battery it constantly reboots.
If we all together manage to make a list of apps, i can create an update.zip which does all the work.

Let's do a test. I know you can replace HTC's browser with Android's. I'm attaching the files for both, can you create an update.zip that removes the HTC files from /system/apps, and pushes the stock ones?
EDIT: failed to upload the files to the forum. You can get them here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TVL3Y8UE

I will do that tomorrow ok? I live in The Netherlands and its 09.35pm and i'm watching a movie
BTW: I also have a stock Magic/ION image. I can extract the apps from there as well. Tomorrow i'll try some apps.
Thanks for the effort guys!
Just another quick post. Below you'll see a list of apps which i'm going to try tomorrow. Please post request apps if i forget one.
- Contacts (probably doesn't work)
- Phone (unknown - probably same as contacts)
- Browser (probably works)
- Music Player (probably works)
- Messages/sms?
- Camera (unknown)
- Albums (probably no multitouch)
- Camcorder (don't know if this one is available)
- Calender (probably works)
- Calculator (unknown)
- Clock (don't know if this one is available)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BTW; If you guys want the original android lockscreen, just remove HtcLockScreen.apk/odex. After reboot you'll have the original android lockscreen where you have to press "menu" to unlock. Works faster and ofcourse no lag!
Hey, if you come back during the ads... can you point me to that stock rom? I'd like to try some of those too.
I can advance that Browser and Calendar do work (I'm using them right now).

Actually, the keyboard is one of the few things I like from HTC's customisations I'll give the sapphire one a try tho!

HTC Desire Live Wallpaper

I was googling and i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=647837
to all the developers, does anyone think this live wallpaper can be ported to the hero? it would be great instead of having just the static wallpaper.
There are live wallpapers for hero. For example on villainrom.
i think he means the Bokeh wallpaper. You can buy it on the market but it eats up ram on the nexus so i never bought it
no its different, you know the desire wallpaper? its a live wallpaper version of that, like you see in the TV adds
I fail to see your point. Do you want to have this live wallpaper run on the hero or do you want LWP to run on the hero in general? Because if you can run LWP on the hero in general, you sure can run this one too, but I'm afraid it's gonna be slow. If you want to run this LWP on the hero, you first have to enable LWP in general which brings us back to starting position. So yeah, basically, whatever you meant, as I said villainrom is the only rom AFAIK to support LWP with sense. Then you have to buy the bokeh LWP from the market and apply it and you're done.

would anyone know how to get live wallpaper on a ROM that doesn't have it?
As I say for like... 3825923589th time, team villain apparently knows and got LWP to work on their rom. If you are a dev and want to implement it, ask them. If you are a user, flash villain10. Can we consider matter closed, or should we wait for 50 more questions of the sort "I want LWP on my hero! How?"? Thanks!

I know that Villain can do it but I don't use their ROM so I just wanted to know if there was a way to do it. I'm not a user who enjoys harassing devs about things I want on their ROM if I can do it myself. Next time I won't bother asking if I have to deal with someone as unpleasant as yourself

Although HomerSp is nice and friendly, he is slightly incorrect in his assumption. Seeing your sig, you are using Cronos droid and in case that is the 1.7 version, you can apply the LWP fix, but it will break your theme and still you won't be able to use LWP. And still I don't see why you have to bother other devs (like HomerSp) in order not to bother Feeyo. It wasn't all that hard to do a nandroid and try it without asking people whether you can do it. And sorry about being anal again, but if you would like to do things yourself, do you have to ask about every single thing? Just do it - if it works, great, if it doesn't - go harass Feeyo about it.

This is what i was asking, this lwp is the same concept as the bokeh one, but its not the same.
I tried pushing it, but it force closes when you try to use it. I also tried flashing the whole zip, which contains lib files as well, but then my phone wouldn't boot up

Yes it doesn't work and I don't consider it bothering when my question is not directed at anyone but they do try and help, also I was unaware of the file and I would have done a Nandroid and flashed it myself if I was aware of it in the first place, not to mention I searched for a day or two looking on XDA and google for any possibility to get LWPs to work on a Hero without using another ROM but I came up empty handed I tried to push some LiveWallpaper.apk and LiveWallpaperPicker.apk to see if it would have any affect but it didn't so I was stumped so I asked when I tried everything I could think of. I am not a dev or a theme so I have no way of knowing how the internals of Android works I don't know any coding languages even though I tried when I was a bit younger to no success and I have put in a request to Feeyo to have it on the next version he releases.
Ok, ok, sorry. Guess I was bit too harsh, but I didn't realize you didn't find the fix on villain forums... I'm afraid I've started resembling kendon in attitude On the LWP with sense topic - I think you need some modifications done on the rosie, so any rom with custom themes will have problems. Also you might need a deodexed rom (as the update only contains rosie.apk and not a rosie.odex), so I guess it will be hard for a non-dev to work things out and modify the villain fix to the cronos rom.
Anyway, the thread apparently has different purpose - that is porting specifically the bokeh LWP to work with hero and not getting LWP to work in general, so I guess we were a bit off-topic for which I apologize.

Sense look on a Vanilla Rom

Hi all,
I'm looking at some vanilla Roms right now, as I'm sick of all the HTC crap But I really can't stand the Vanilla default rounded-white-awfull style and love the blak HTC's one. I've looked over the internet but I only find some framework-res.apk that would replace the notification bar. ANd I would like to replace all the look of vanilla (included radio buttons, checkboxes etc)
So here I come with this idea. Taking the framework-res.apk of an htc rom, let's say VillainRom for e.g (if they don't see any drawbacks in that) and replace a lots of stuff in a vanilla one, e.g ezHero, as this is the one I'm looking at.
Now, knowing the fact that I've never done some Rom customizing before, is this a quite easy task... I mean, some png are different in size, would this be a problem ? Do I have to do something else appart from zip align, re sign etc ?
Cheers,
LTourist
PS : and don't answer me "if you don't know that, you shouldn't do it" because the one who do must have started somewhere before becoming a rom expert
you should take a look at SuperHero from the VillainROM guys.
almost exactly what you describe.

Why don't you try it & see?
This should help: http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile-pulse-pulse-modaco-com/302404/ande-android-design-editor/
If you need any help I will be glad to help.
I was on SuperHero 1.1 once upon a time... but since the version 2, I don't want to go on it again... This version is, imo, just villain without sense home... which i already have on my villainROM... Moreover, there is still so many htc crap under SuperHero, like sms, clock etc...
I will have a look at the soft you're pointing to me 42turkeys, looks promising
How about: Take a great Cyanmod base (VanillaEclair because of its awesome power saving kernels and CM 5.0.7, or the straight 5.0.8 port) - and try theming with a CM theme? Problem with having Sense frameworks is that of space - and memory usage. They will always run in b/g
Scratch that - Just tried this and hung on loading screen.
Same here, but with the framework-res.apk modification that 42turkeys gave me. I started from ezHero...
I totally agree, sense framework is hell, that's why I would really like to have the best of the two world. And a vanilla rom fits in 60MB whereas SuperHero take more than 100MB... for absolutly useless app's and features... Vanilla with CM and "sense" look would be awesome!!!
Didn't know about the CM theme, i look at it tomorrow, it's too late now, off time
Good luck! If you need any help just ask and I can test stuff for you as I'm running EZHero too.
I assume "theming" CM is actually using Metamorph, right ?
Well, I'll try to learn how to do it this evening. Just in the mean time, I give a try at superhero again, just to be sure I don't wan't any crappy sense stuff, and I'm now fully convinced... SuperHero crashed this morning by waking me up as the htc clock was ringing but without htc's lockscreen...
VillainRom team has made an incredible work since a while, but this release of SuperHero is just a joke to me... (sorry for those who worked hard on it )
EzHero/Sense look, I'm coming
Well, I can't manage it...
Can't do metamorph because it seems dead and the only reliable informations I could find was videos made by stericsson... Which is not helpfull regarding the xml file tags and others specification used by metamorph...
I managed to boot with a modified framework-res.apk but android is crashing just after boot up... I tried to pushing the original apk but I got the same errors since then... So maybe it's not my apk which is bad but just the method I'm copying it : the brute force !!! (adb push ^^)
Does it gonna work if I'm making an update.zip ?
If somebody could just point me where to start, I'll be gratefull
LTourist
Probably the theme section of the forums as this really isn't development related...
Yep, I agree. I saw my mistake after my first post... But it was to late Maybe some moderator could move the thread in that forum to avoid duplicated thread

[REQ]/[PORT] MIUI Themes/Lockscreens/Theme Manager

Searched if there already was this kinda topic here, and it wasn't.
Is it possible to get the MIUI Lockscreens ported to our beloved SGS2?
Please take a look at this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134657
They look REALLY AWESOME and I would die for this on my SGS2.
Anyone who can do some magic?
Would gladly donate to the person who can/will port this, if possible
Thanks in advance
/CK
Thats the first ever bit of miui that I actually like. Nice find, hope someone ports them over.
It would be very cool if someone could make that

Just download the mtz file and install(open) it. It will ask to install the theme.
To change/edit go to apps->themes->edit-theme->lockscreen
Works on my i9100 with MIUI 1.7.1 test31

No worries. This is a bit OT for this thread, sorry. But can you tell me short about the rom? Like are the battery times good? And can you chose danish language in the rom as well? Are the shortcuts in the lockscreens configurable?
Thank you

Widgetlocker is a good alternative, its on the market and there are loads of miui slider down themes here on xda.
I will say it isnt free but well worth the money and works a dream on the sgs2
Hope this helps

These locksccreen couldn't be ported. They havent been ported to any stock rom phone. They work for any MIUI port but not on stock.
Use widgetlocker if you want but I don't like having another apps running in background and thus consuming battery only to have a lockscreen. Plus wl could be incompatible with apps tracking the screen unlocked as so it isn't a real lockscreen (embedded in system) but an app that SIMULATES a lockscreen

Battery times seem alot better then stock (though i didnt charge > 8 times on stock, installed roms straight away. Batt. live seems to improve after first few charges)
The shortcuts are configurable only by changing its path in the xml of the lockscreen, not by MIUI interface.
For me, MIUI is the best rom for SGS2 atm...still waiting for CM tho

I know that it is possible to get a default lockscreen changed on the SGS II. Nitr8 SGSII ROM has the stock android lockscreen instead of Samsung, he advised me that you can use this old SGS thread and it works. As I'm a ROM cooker and not a themer and don't deal with frameworks, somebody else (Maybe a themer) can try it? thread on how to do it is here
Thanks for the tip, mate

Thanks for the info. I do the odd bit of xml changing for my themes. If its to do with xml maybe I stand a chance but if its smali I wouldn't know where to start, I think its time to do some reading and try and learn.
I would love to change this lockscreen. I'm going to try next week.
I don't like miui but I installed it on my desire just to try these lock screens and they are really nice.

Cm 7.2 lockscreen on sense froyo?

Is there a way to have the cm 7.2 lockscreen on a froyo sense ROM? I love that lockscreen but I also love my Rempuzzle sense ROM...

Should not, but I think the sense of the beautiful lock screen, although the function is less
Apps
Sadly, replacing the lockscreen itself isn't as easy as flashing a new one in (like you can with the bootscreen). However, a wealth of apps are available that can change the outer look and functionality of your lockscreen (basically, giving you an entire new lockscreen, even if it really isn't). I can't link to anything right now, but searching for lockscreens in the Market should yield plentiful results!

Have you tried Widget Locker? Enable the 5 second rule, it does not lag. Also since it supports widgets , it looks cool
