Camera on custom roms - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have tied a few custom roms and I am now on aokp with gapps 4.0.4. On the camera it takes a few seconds to focus and shoot. while on the stock rom it takes shots instantly. I have tried this side by side on my rooted gnex and a friends full stock from 4.0.2.
Anyone know the reason for this and a possible fix?

It was changed in custom ROMs, and might even now be permanently changed from now on. I could be wrong, though

Try a custom rom like darkside evolution or adjust the OC/UV

Thanks - any suggestions on settings for my OC/UV?
Unrooted with the stock ICS update. I've caught my S2 locking up every now and then for as long as a couple of minutes. also noticed more lag switching between apps, particularly Contacts
and, to be honest, I have tried most ROMs out there and applaud the terrific work - While some offer blazing speeds, great UIs, whatever...There ALWAYS seems to be something missing (WiFi Calling, incompatible radio, no MMS...you name it) If I could find an ICS - Based ROM with everything stock has, working properly, I'm there!

All the custom roms won't have those problems as soon as they put the proprietary drivers in.

is there 1 ROM you'd suggest for the T989?

Just a personal opinion, but i would ODIN the stock ICS for now and wait a few days/week for AOSP, AOKP, and all the other individual rom makers to get the proprietary drivers and source merged in. That will make ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD.
I will - thanks man
I have so far very good experience with the Darkside mod of the stock ICS.
Small issue with reboot hanging was fixed using his scripts. Personally I prefer stock rooted with junk removed from the system. I need full functionality of the stock from for everyday life.
BTW my battery life is also good.

JB stock camera app freezing

Anyone experiencing the camera app freezing for few seconds if trying to take a pic without touching the screen to focus first?
Thanx
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
nope, it works fine on my Nexus!
try to install the camera app again (not the same camera app, or same but from other Jelly Bean ROM which is flashable via CWM...), maybe it works better then.
Google haven't released the source code of JB yet, and all rom's out there are still in some sort of "beta". Happened to me twice, maybe three times, and I have JB on my GNex since last week.
Don't think you should bother with that problem, it should be fixed soon.
Frozen a couple times for me in the last week using it. One was a full phone crash. I'm sure they'll work out the kinks.
On 100% stock 4.1 GSM.

Camera app

I rooted my phone last night and I am using CM9, can I get the stock camera? I really liked the burst mode on the S3.

Nope you cant. I think that the stock touchwiz camera files cant be put in the cm9 camera files. And vice versa. Though someone can correct me if i am wrong on the files part.

Any chance of someone out there wanting to take on this project, and develop a camera app that will work with the burst feature of this phone? I would, however I would not know where to start, my programming experience with android is somewhere around none.
Looks like it is being worked on.

PRO & CON of using CM/AOSP based vs Stock Samsung based ROMs

Before this latest incident, i had no preference if i were running a CM9/10 ROM or a Samsung based ROM
but the last week or so, my Radio went wacko and regardless of which ROM flashed or which version of Radio I used, the problem wouldn't go away.
The problem being having to manually pick a Cell phone provider manually after each reboot. (It has been working fine for the past 2 years, until recently.)
So, knowing that I could have easily ran this command to fix it
"dial *#*#2263#*#* to set "WCDMA 1700 preferred"
But!!... while trying that realized the CM9/10 and AOSP based ROMs do not work with those commands, as they are only available when you use the Samsung based ROMs like Dark side for example.
So, a quick fix which would have only taken 2 min tops to do, took me a good few hours, as i had to backup, flash back to a Stock ROM, go through those annoying setup wizard, run the commands, rebooot, make sure the settings sticks, then, back to CWMR again, flash back to CM whatever version, again do the annoying setup wizard, and reboot a couple times to make sure the radio is still working, before restoring the backup.
so that was a huge time waste, huge time consuming process
even if you did have a CWMR backup, it won't save you much time, the Restore Process actually takes longer than a clean flash
So, after this experience, I'm now much more inclined to stick with ROMs based off Samsung Stock ROMs
That's the PRO part.
The CON part of using Samsung based ROMs, too much junk and useless crap, included, also, it'll eventually lose support altogether from Samsung after a few more releases.
That's where the PRO part of using CM based or AOSP based ROMs takes the spotlight
I ponder if there's a way to enable those Secret Codes on the CM / AOSP based ROMs
--- EDIT ---
Another important PRO of stock Samsung based ROMs is the Hardware Acceleration for most video formats, while AOSP / CM based ROMs only supports a few
to mod or not to mod...
I agree with your viewpoint. I too, have thought this through, the long term decisions of which side of the coin to pick. Ultimately, the Samsung supported side will be phased out and the dichotomy with be solve for you. Besides, using technology is frustrating and time consuming; plus just to put icing on the cake, your significant other will be always *****ing you spend too much time "playing with your tech". That is until she/he breaks their toy and then it's like "what do you mean it's not fixed". Sorry, for the tangential nature of this reply, but this is how it is with me and most of my friends. Good luck living with technology.

Are those codes nestled inside an apk? I remember on my s3 I saw an apk which seemed to sound like the codes based off it's name. I currently am on my s2 right now though so I can't check.

nope, you type those in manually on the Dial pad to execute
the Apps you are talking about are just for people that doesn't know these secret codes by heart or saves you time by not having to search it here in the forums
I get your point and I am basically using the same setup as you and I do not have trouble getting signals. I've always used telus tlle4 radio. With that being said aokp/cm10 based roms have so much more customization that I don't even consider Samsung based roms as an option. I just can't!!

I love the included call blocking in TW ROMs. I can't find a good app that mimics blocked numbers not even getting to voice mail.

There was an app that answers the call then hangs up immediately based off the black list you create

The overwhelming pro to stock based rooms for me is my reliance on Wi-Fi calling.

Stock roms - touch to focus on camera app. AOSP - incredible battery life and no bloat.

TW:
Pros-
Everything Works
The base is slow moving, so easy to fix problems when devving.
WiFi calling +++++
Cons-
Harder to customize
Almost never ever get new features, unless you make them yourself.
Obsolete software
Aosp based:
Pros-
Easy to build and edit source
Updated constantly
New features and software available immediately
Cons-
Buggy at times
Minor issues go ignored
No WiFi calling
Random reboots in class and buggy vibration control that distracts your professor repeatedly.
I'm a flashaholic, so I switch back and forth between aokp and romchicago

Yes to both
I really miss the focus and Stabilization feature on the Stock ROM
but like you said, the battery is better on AOSP / CM based ROMs
LOL

Indeed, i too find myself jumping back and forth between both side of the fence
...so hard to choose which side of the fence to stay on permanently.
I like AoSp. Only cons, to me, is the crappy calendar and camera(how I loathe thee)
I much prefer a touchwiz camera. Also the swipe to call or text is nice on the TW Roms.

I prefer the AOSP (TW ROM) because of stability but I keep going back to ParanoidAndroid or AOKP JB to try the new features.
Try using TWRP is way more convenient (at least for me it is) if your constantly flashing different ROMs
Pros using TWRP:
- Fast ROM backups and restores.
- Queue multiple zip files to flash.
- UI is user friendly.
- CWM zip files work on TWRP.

ROMs

Why are some ROMs almost a GB and others only a couple hundred MB?? I noticed that the ones that are almost GB install flawlessly on my Boost Mobile GS3. I flashed the MD4 firmware with the Boost modem and installed Liquid JB 2.9 and right away the keyboard kept crashing over and over and it just seemed to be running right. Didnt feel as smooth as stock, midnight, or MOAR. Tried deleting the first part of the updater file and installed Super Nexus but partially bricked immediately. Wouldn't go past the second splash screen. Been resesrching like crazy but can't seem to find an answer to all this madness. Any light shedding would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Most touchwiz ROMs are 1GB due to added features and aosp ROMs are smaller because they are clean and not bloated
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Why am I having trouble installing the smaller ROMs? Is it because I possibly have an ICS bootloader. Read that certain GS3s running 4.1.2 may still have ICS bootloaders. Any way to change it to JB? Sorry for all the questions, I just like to be clear on all I do.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Well, I figured out what the problem was. Silly that I didn't think of it before. I was using the Android 4.3 GApps. It kept making the keyboard crash and I also had noticed that it didn't bring up the new owner menu or whatever it is. I'm curently on CM 10.1.2, but I'm about to go to CM 10.1.3. BTW, I love CM 10.1.2. It's ridiculously fast compared to the other ROMs I've used. Love it!!!
