can somebody pls help me!!!! or at least tell me which region/country rom i have?
Sounds like your router is not set up properly to allocate an IP to the phone. What security are you using? WEP? WPA? Also make sure your DHCP Server is set up correctly to accept the Desire and allocate the IP address.
No idea which rom you have but personally I'd root it and install a custom 2.2 rom like Neophyte which is very stable, fast and includes fixes for Froyo.

could you check if you're using MAC filtering and/or hidden SSID on your wifi router at home?
Hi friends
Searched the forum and tried the proposed solutions but nothing helped.
I'm trying connect to addhoc wifi on my desire HD os=2.2
I replaced the wpa_supplicant file with one of those that exists on the forum and
indeed now i see adhoc networks but the connection is not stable - it goes like connecting -> obtaining ip address -> connected -> disconnected
and so on in loop ... i verified that the ip is static and i even put gateway+mask+dns.
when trying to ping the target it even sometimes succeeds!
Tried with several different adhoc targets and tried both wpa_supplicant for ver 0.5 & ver 0.6
Please does someone can help ?
thanks

My phone is samsung galaxy GT - I 5503. I do too and obtainging IP address...
This question not yet solved
I have the same issue with my sgs2. I get no connection ever, only a constant "Obtaining IP address.."
I'd suggest resetting your router and forgetting the network and trying to reconnect. Also a static IP might work but as for finding any of your provider's info, that's up to you. Unfortunately, XDA doesn't even recognize my network (Sasktel) so I am having a very tough time with this!
most probably firewall problem , i had same problem with hotspot doing exactly as you discribe.
it can also happen by some custom Roms and don't happen with others ( firewall disabled ) .
Also lot of sense Roms have an issue with that exact wifi problem , not like AOSP Roms ,i don't know why
I only had this problem with a network called; 'eduroam', my schools' network. I solved it by recotting & changing the network security TLS/TTLS/EAP or somethinf like that.
I'm running MIUI 1.7.1. I've got a static IP, and I'm unable to connect to WIFI in my home. The mobile continually cycles to "Obtaining IP address" and then fails.
I've power-cycled the router, tried setting the WIFI to scan 13 and 14 channels, etc. If I don't set the Static IP, I can connect to the network, but I get no data transfer without it. Changing settings on the router is not an option (my landlord pays for our internet, and he's added the static IP as a security measure).
When I downloaded the latest Cyanogen yesterday, it connected via static IP without hesitation, which leads me to believe it isn't the hardware. But after switching back and forth, now Cyanogen won't connect either.
Here's my current setup:
HTC Desire
MIUI 1.7.1 English
AmonRa Recovery
Kernel: I've used both the MIUI stock and ManU-2.0-GB-HAVS-AXI-128-CFS kernels, both with the same result
Radio: 5.09.05.30_2
HBOOT 0.93.0001 S-ON
Has anyone experienced similar problems?
Also, still with the same setup (but the static IP turned off), I can connect to other WIFI hotspots and achieve data transfer.
Please help all u kind hearts out there... Just flashed ThinkingBridge Rom to my e975... All is working except i cant connect to secured wifi only to open wifi...its looping in obtaining ip address Here's my logcat

Hey XDA!
just a quick question. Has anybody been able to connect to a wifi network after changing your MAC address? I've tried it on Oxygen, Hydrogen, CM13 and it's always the same, as soon as I change the MAC if I try to connect to a network it will stay at "obtaining ip address" and never connect unless I change back to my original MAC. Any help or input would be appreciated, thanks.
