hi everyone:
I have been looking via numerous thread online on many Android forums especially here and have been unsuccessful for the past 2 days now. So I figured I would need to create a thread and finally give in and ask for some help. I have a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy 3 phone and I need to unlock it so that it will work on my AT&T service. Now i understand about rooting the phone and being able to play with themes etc, but its not that great if I can't use the phone itself.
Now without coming up with some kind of answer I must have watched about 40 youtube video's hoping to find out some kind of information. Mostly what I got out of it was numerous website that offer unlocking for phones at a certain price.
unlockcodesource(.)com
unlock2go(.)com
mobileunlockcodes(.)co.uk
Has anyone ever used any of these website or can someone give me some good advise on how I can get this phone unlocked please/

I think the toolkit stickied in the development forum has an option to SIM unlock the GS3. I have not tried this, and do not know if it works, but if the option is there, you might want to give it a shot.
If you're on contract with t mobile and your account is in good standing with them. Call them tell them you're going over seas and need to unlock your phone so you can use it. They will send you unlock code ... then pop in an att sim card and it will prompt you to enter the unlock code t Mobil gave you. Done

OK thank you. I followed your instructions and they said it would take up to maybe 24 hrs for the phone to be unlocked. If it isn't unlocked than she said to call back with the conformation number she gave me. If that doesn't work than they would have to give Samsung my info and could take up to 14 days. She said when you buy phones almost all stands and corp stores have already unlocked phones.
she also said it would be auto unlocked for good. Can they lock the phone back up once it is be unlocked?

edited: Once I have it unlocked ( if all goes good ) do i use the same APN settings that I needed to put into the phone in order for my phone to work on the AT&T network as I did with my S2 that I got unlocked ?
Don't they use different frequencies for HSPA+
You would be relegated to edge speeds, correct me if I'm wrong

I really don't know. That would be a great question if someone would be nice enough to help me with this information? Again i have a T mobile S3 hopefully its unlocked would I be losing speeds by being on the AT&T network?
thanks

The T-Mobile S3 has the 850/1900 3G bands so it will work on AT&T's 3G network. It will not get LTE though.
You can unlock either by paying for a code from the various resellers online or requesting an unlock code from T-Mobile if you have an account in good standing with them. If you can't get the code from T-Mobile I suggest searching 'T999 unlock' on eBay and you'll find some good options.
The tmobile galaxy s3 will work on the ATnT HSPA+21 frequency. Same frequency the International version runs on for that network.

Edge network and 3/4G Question
I found an excellent place so far on eBay for buying unlock codes. they have almost 3800 sells with a 99% positive feedback. Great customer service. The guy answered numerous questions of mine and made sure i did everything correctly. Payment was $24.95 US, so hopefullly everything will go good.
He was talking about being on something called an " Edge " network which is a little slower, but he said you won't notice a difference between your unlocked S2 and the unlocked S3 now. Right now my S2 says I have 3G service when I use it. I dont understand how i had a inspire4G, what is the 4G for if AT&T only gives you 3G service? And where I am in United States I should have 4G service no matter what. I'm confused on that.,

Edge is 2G speeds, which are substantially slower than 3G speeds. IMHO, 3G speeds are livable, 2G/Edge is not.
Different phones have different radios which work on different frequencies. Some phones are not compatible with other services at all, and some will work on other carriers but often not at optimal speeds.

So than why would someone suggest that I would get "edge" instead of what i have now? I'm getting 3G now with my T-Mobile S2 unlocked on AT&T, but now I'm going to have an unlocked S3, why wouldn't it be the same?
Because the radios in the devices are different.

Because he/she doesn't know what he/she is talking about. You will be fine with a T-Mobile S3 on AT&T.
That's what I said earlier in not so many words.
Voice willl work fine you will not see HSPA+ speeds on At&t with a T-Mobile Galaxy SIII.
If the T-Mobile SIII has the hardware capability to support the At&t HSPA+ bands you would need modified radio software to unlock this ability.
I believe this was done on the Galaxy Note to tun on T-Mobile HSPA+ network before it was officially launched on T-Mobile.
kmdub I believe your the one that's wrong.

I unlocked my t999 and am using an att straight talk sim getting HSPA speeds. Going to switch back to tmobile prepay because it is way faster than att HSPA with better latency. Although coverage may be lacking, i may just switch to an att ST sim.
To answer your question, a Tmobile S3 will work on ATT HSPA+ network with the HSPA+ Speeds of up to 6-7mbps in NYC area. The average I've been getting is around 2-3.5 mbps. With the tmobile prepay sim I have, it's usually around 2-18mbps down in NYC area.
The T-mobile S3 will not work on the ATT LTE network because it lacks that radio (or so they say for now); there have been other threads suspecting it's just a matter of flashing the right radio to "turn on" the ATT LTE radio. However, if all you want is HSPA+ speeds, rest assured it will work fine.
The ATT S3 is lacking the AWS bands for TMobile so it will not get the HSPA+ on Tmobile.
Best regards.
radio issue
First off, I would like to thank everyone who has been helping me along with my issues with my phone. I appreciate it a lot and I'm picking up more knowledge more and more everyday from you guys and reading heavily on the forums.
if the hardware in the phone doesn't support HSPA+ 1) will i have to root the phone and 2) change the radio? And 3 ) if I change the radio does that mean I would need to install a custom ROM i order for it to work properly?
Also, from one of the post they said "The T-Mobile S3 has the 850/1900 3G bands " - of that is true will than I should be able to have the 3G speeds correct?
I really hope I am not making some people angry, I'm new to this and trying my hardest to understand everything so I don't make mistakes. Please bare with me. Again, thank you so much everyone who has contributed so far. I still have a lot to learn. The reason why is because I just don't want it to work ( I do, want it to work ) but I want to understand why everything is working they way it is and I've over the past almost month have been picking up a lot of knowledge. Can't wait to hear from you guys

No, actually, you are wrong. The T-Mobile S3 does not need any modification to work properly on AT&T's HSPA network. Seems you are confusing something else with frequency. Quit spreading bad information.
OP: Don't worry about it. Some are making this way more complicated than it needs to be. As said before, if you have the T999, you will be fine on AT&T's HSPA network without any modifications (other than an account...lol). Just get the phone SIM-unlocked, pop in the right SIM, you are good to go. Seriously, it is that easy.
Well there it is, I stand corrected!
I had no idea the T-Mobile SIII supports At&t HSPA+ bands.
Is the same true to all T-Mobile HSPA+ phones?
Sorry for any issues, just learning
Hi everyone,
thanks so much for the info. Will the S2 I needed to put in certain APN settings inorder to receive MMS ( picture ) via texts. Do i use the same settings for the Samsung Galaxy 3?

I too have learned from this thread
I purchased a Straight Talk AT&T sim to use on my unlocked Note II (T889). I get service, but its staying right at 1 bar of edge, or dropping constantly. ATT has great service where I live, and my phone seems to hate picking up on it!
Is there anything I can do to try to get that signal better?
Has anybody else been able to successfully use this phone with straight talks att sim?
Thanks
I did test the ST at&t in my area on the unlocked GN2, the speed was very low no matter the settings.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
Make sure you have the correct APN settings for straight talk:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487293
Also I did the reverse (At&t to T-mobile). This thread may help if changing the APN doesn't work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068041
I have this setup and its very fast, almost as fast as t mobile and a bit more consistent.
If you use the APN settings normally recommended by straight Talk try leaving it blank for proxy, seems to make data speed much faster.

Thanks for the responses.
I have tried just about everything, I've come to the conclusion that I should have found a micro sim to test BEFORE i purchased straight talk. My area just doesn't get the at&t 3g signal. Figuring out how to enable LTE on the phone wouldn't do me any good either as LTE isn't supported on straight talk.
What sucks the most....1 mile north or south of my house...and the 4g icon shows with full strength.
If anybody thinks of anything new, please let me know!

Don't put the proxy info in. That helped my connect speed.
Got my zl today excited then let down by problems with internet, so i insert sim and it picks up tmobile and auto download settings then when it start downloading google play apps it hangs. I go to chrome loop up a page get "error 502 bad request the server could not resolve your request", i have full bars and H+ but wont connect. I also notice that when i insert the sim i can just pull it out with out pressing down on it. Any help...
UPDATE: Got it working just need to tweak the APN settings, for future tmobile user the automatic download setting are not correct here is the link for Tmobile settings http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1979

I know the ZL (6506) is capable of working with T-Mobile's new LTE network, but my question concerns the IMEI number and your account with T-Mobile. On AT&T, your account has to have an IMEI number that is known and recognized by AT&T so as to enable LTE connectivity. Is this also the case with T-Mobile??

The info or where you got your info is incorrect. you DONT have to have a IMEI number that is known to AT&T to have LTE. I have changed phones prob 20 times since I got my first LTE phone and NEVER had to change it again.
You can be on the LTE data plan and everything work fine on a old dumb edge phone then put the sim card back in an LTE device and it still work fine...
LTE worked fine on a Canda Note 2 and One X
Same here. TMo does not care. I just started using my ZL teo days ago, before that was Nexus 4. Just took the SIM from the N4 and inserted in the ZL. All works!

Hey people, I'm seriously considering picking up a Sony Xperia ZL C6502 Black. I'm aware that it doesnt support LTE on either network, but the price is insanely lowwww! My question is, does anyone know what kind of speeds I can expect to see on TMO and ATT respectively? I'm currently using an ATT Gnote 2 on ST/ATT and I have a Nexus 4 as a backup which I use on the TMO $30/"unlimited" data plan. I only point this out to indicate that I don't get LTE speeds now, which sorta makes it a "You can't miss what you never had" type of deal. I roughly get about 14-17mbs down on either device. Is there any chance I'd enjoy the same with the 6502 on either of these plans??? Any help/insight or even opinions, would be greatly appreciated.
The speeds to expect will be the same as you have now.......

i just received my ZL C6502 today and noticed that the data connection does not work at all. i followed the APN settings on the t-mobile link you gave and still no dice (it does show full bars and H+ as you mentioned and when i switch the SIM to my old G2X its on full HSPA+ speed). i left the house and it was running ok suddenly and streamed netflix, etc. but when i went home it lost the connection again. I'm suspecting that this phone does not really work on t-mo's 1700 AWS even though the box says so and that i only got online outside the house because that area is on the 1900mhz refarm. is there any difference to t-mo's AWS 1700 and regular HSPA 1700mhz?! any insight or help is appreciated!!
I have a 6506 on TMo so I am limited in help. However, someone in my office has a 6502 on TMo and it is working fine. He had trouble until he manually set it. Same case as mine.
Perhaps you have a defective unit? Try removing and reinserting the SIM card. Perhaps a factory reset.
I had mine for almost a month and has been flawless in LTE when in DC and HSPA in Dallas.
Sendt fra min ZL 6506
The 6502 is the same as 6506 but without lte it should work I don't have 1900 coverage and I'm always on hspa and there's no lte were I'm at either. U need to make sure the apn is set exactly there should not be any values under proxy and port also under apn type have it blank that was the issue with mine those three things had values and was messing up internet. Also there's three different apn you have use. 1. Fast.tmobile.com (Lte), 2. Epc.tmobile.com, 3. Internet2.voicestream.com. Give it a try.

thanks for the help guys. ive gathered all that info earlier and did try the three APNs different combinations / proxy - no proxy, etc to no avail. i'm leaning on faulty hardware or messed up radio. i'll just sleep over it but so far its been disappointing :crying: great phone though...
As a quick update I did literally sleep over it and I'm happily up and running with hspa.. I literally left the phone alone overnight lol. Rooted the fone and all I need is to figure out how to get to recovery to put CWM since pressing vol up at boot is not working and flashboot isnt going either (that's for another post). Moody bastard this ZL is.. Anyway Thanks again!

That's the thing you had an LTE phone AT&T had in their system when your account was provisioned for LTE so you never had a problem after that. For those people that have the ZL as their first LTE phone on AT&T they will have to first get the account setup for LTE using a phone AT&T recognizes on their network.
So basically put the SIM in an AT&T LTE phone, have AT&T provision it for LTE then once that's done you can put it in any other LTE phone and it will work fine

I know that the P605 will not work with LTE. However I can confirm that my straight talk Sim card works and I am getting HSPA+ (ATT Straight Talk Card) Here is my situation. I purchased a sim car from AT&T and activated it on the Gophone plan.. $35 per month for 500 minutes and unlimited text and data. For some reason no matter what APN I put in I don't get any data. I got data the first night I set it up and now I get no data. I have a International Version of the Galaxy S4 running with a GoPhone dumb phone $50 per month unlimited everything. (AT&T system does not recognize the IMEI so it reverts it to a dumb phone). Why isn't it working for my Galaxy Note 10.1 2014. I figure $35 bucks isn't a bad deal. Please assist or am I dead in the water.

I also have a P605, and I've been trying to get connected via Red Pocket Mobile, an AT&T MVNO, but I haven't had much luck. However, my issues are with Red Pocket's terrible customer service, and trying to get their smallest data plan (1GB for $10) connected to the sim card (that it took them 2 weeks to send).
I've read about a T-Mobile $30/month plan for BYOD devices that I will test out, once I get the sim card from them (currently backordered)...My device had a USA T-Mobile profile already present in the APN settings, I'm hoping it will work!

I had that Tmobile plan however my area is not fully framed for the 1900MHZ on tmobile. AT&T works but like I said must be something funky going one. At this point I may send my device back for a refund or sell it. I may just wait for a US carrier to get it. Yeah I know I won't get updates or support from US carriers.........wait damn that........ I will get my money back for this one and just go back to using my wifi version. (gave to my wife but will have to get it back) US carriers really suck when it comes to certain things.

Good luck getting your WiFi back from your wife
San Diego should be farmed to 1900 so I'm hoping for decent coverage around town. I faced the same dilemma here, wait or go for it... My old tablet was an Acer A500 so I really needed something (and some people complain about lag on the Note? Ha!).
If you want, I could send you the APN setting Red Pocket lists on their manual setup page, if you think that would help...

There shouldn't be any problems using the sim and APN settings. The data rate you will see will depend on your area. If TMO has 'reformed' the edge frequencies to HSPA then you will get decent data. Otherwise you may get stuck with edge...

If your Note 3 isn't using LTE when it gets those speeds, then 'maybe'. Because the P605 doesn't have a perfect match for US freqs it still may not. I'm not sure where you are located, but if it's in a refarmed area you should (P605 supports HSPA on 1900). Here is the link (hope it goes) for the refarmed areas:

Has anyone gotten the P605 to work on AT&T
Has anyone gotten this thing to work on the AT&T go Plans?
I need a carrier with a good rate that uses the AT&T network. Previously I would put my international devices on the go phone plan since it sees it in the system as a dumb phone however with this one it won't connect to the data. Gives me a message that I need to add a supported data plan.

Ok guys. Tried my TMO sim on this note 10.1 and it's only getting hspa+. I run a speedtest and got 11/3 d/u speed.
It's a lot better if I tether my note 3, I'm getting the same speed I get from phone.

Because the P605 doesn't support LTE in the US frequencies, HSDPA+ is the best you will be able to do. Your note 3 is tuned to use the LTE freqs here.

Yeah I was told about that. I just want to see how big is the difference. Making me think twice about this LTE version but I prefer the Snapdragon over Exynos.
Are all Wifi version on Exynos SOC?

I see. Thanks.
Maybe thats one reason I'll stick with this LTE version. Maybe someday TMO will utilize the same band. I hope
Hey guys! I'm trying to get my Verizon S4 working for my wife on T-Mobile! She got the LG G3 last night and because she's so tiny, it's like a tablet to her!
Anyways, the Verizon S4 is rooted and is still on original MDK firmware. With that said, I'm not too sure exactly which steps in your guide apply to our situation...not having safe strap and all.
With changing the APN settings to match up to my phone (LG G3 on T-Mobile), and inserting a T-Mobile 4G sim card, I'm able to get calls and SMS working over WiFi on the S4...that's it though. No mobile data seems to be coming through. Her mobile signal icon in the status bar keeps switching back n forth from E to H for some reason...but no LTE or 4G icon.
Anyways, is this something anyone thinks they could help with? Or do ya think we're screwed? My sweet wife would be eternally grateful if someone could help to make this happen!!
EDIT: haha, my signature will be changed if I'm able to get this working for her!
Aren't you missing something here? Verizon is CDMA, TMo is GSM. I don't see how you can get cell coverage to work unless the phone has dual antennas.

Many newer CDMA devices with LTE support have gsm radios as well, that includes sprint and Verizon..
To OP, you may have better luck searching the Verizon forums if nobody replies here
