it,s time to announce to all mobile lovers....dont buy lg phones.......
I had my heart set on getting this on the 11th until I got a reply from lg saying the boot loader will be locked. Makes it hard to put this s3 down or pass up the note knowing that. So I'll wait in the wings if the boot loader is unlocked by devs here I may pick it up but not before
Just Sprint?

Yah you don't need an unlocked bootloader to gain root access.

+1. If you guys really want to get this beasty phone...i suggest you guys start signing the petition and pass it around to your friends and other forums. It's time to put an end to locked bootloaders by the manufacturers. It's our money so we should be able to use any way we want it.
How much good will a petition actually do here?
Anyway, I sincerely hope there is a practical way for it to be unlocked.
I would never expect for the device itself to come unlocked but, I think it's fairly reasonable to hope there is a manufacturer provided way to unlock it.

Not a "source," it was LG tech support. I got the same "no reply" reply which I will gladly post for you below:
LG Support said:
Good Morning, Jared!
Thank you for contacting LG Electronics, I understand your concern, and it will be my pleasure to assist you as far as I am able.
The LG E970 will not be unlocked but I cannot say that it will be unlockable, but that I am looking into and will get back with you once an answer has been received...

Yeah, I don't know about LG specifically, but most tech support people don't know jack. Asking tech support is almost always less useful than checking XDA... or usually even a quick google search (heck, that's often what tech support resorts to)
Signed and you guys should put the link to petition in ur Sigs

Yeah pretty much.
I'm still hopeful XDA will find a way around the locked bootloader.
I think it was the S3 or the Gnex on verizon had like 2,000$ bounty on breaking the bootloader.

Professor Google usually has the answer... An XDA-style unboxing would be nice...
I doubt it would be beneficial even if this phone had an unlocked bootloader. LG would likely never provide any meaningful support in the form of driver, kernel sources etc, so any functional AOSP/AOKP roms would be non existent.
Hi Everyone
Wishing you a Happy New Year.
As like the other Sim Unlock thread for X8 and X10. I am starting this for the Xperia S.
The different is this is a Code Unlock.
I will need the IMEI no(*#06#) . Make sure you have not entered too many wrong codes before ie sony has a limit for 5.
If you have entered more than 5 codes then what ever code you have it will not work.
I will be able to give out only 1 code per week as this is expensive for me to get hold of the codes. Whereas I have been giving the cable unlocks for free.
Please do not post your IMEI here, send it by pm to me.
Spread the word :

I'm getting an AT&T Xperia Ion as a gift and I wanna unlock it before giving it so that it can be used on T-Mobile. So, my questions are:
Do you get the code for the Ion too or only the S?
How much is it? Or is it free?
Is it guaranteed to work?
You said, you can only do 1/ week, so if I sent you the IMEI tonight when do you expect to deliver the code?
Thanks a lot in advance and sorry for asking all these questions. This is the first time for me to deal with something like this or even a Sony phone...

I will be able to give 1 free code weekly as it costs me to get hold of the codes for these phones. Takes 2-3 days to generate the code. Any Sony Xperia phone can be unlocked.
Hi,
If i send you my IMEI, would you be able to get the code for my Sony Xperia S?
Yes I can do it.

I stumbled across this on an unlock video on YouTube. It feels fishy to give out IMEI and expect a free unlock.
Anyone here use this site before? Does it work?
If not, who's going to be first LOL.

Why do that? Risky business there... There are TWO ways on this forum that unlocks the device. I even had the number to unlock from Sammy and it wouldn't, but Chainfire's free app did the trick, and it took a whole 3 minutes! Noboby has my IMEI but t-mo and me, and all is good by the home fireplace (0_0)

NM, i saw it, was hoping to unlock my s5!
Hi,
well, its getting towards the the (semi) retirement of my (the one and only) HD2.
5 years was a pretty good investment and it still all works great.
but...
I am thinking that the M8 is really the only contender with the possibilities (wishful thinking) of multi boot and maybe even including windows phone 8.
the ideal phone will be the dual sim version for me but i can see all the good stuff going on for the M8 but will everything apply if i get the dual sim version?
what i mean is, are they exactly the same apart from the extra sim?
i dont want to get the dual sim then find out that i cannot take advantage of any of the development going on for the M8.
thanks.

hmm, ok, thanks for the heads up JellyTooth. that seemed to be the impressions i was getting from the posts here.
thats a shame that it is different as it really seems to be the ideal phone.
i suppose i could always just buy it anyway and then use it standard without rooting, flashing, customizing, and, and, and...
naw, forget that.
i am still undecided and less than 4 weeks to go before my birthday...

I bought it in Saudi one month ago, it works excellent. If you don't mind too much for the dev then get it. With root you can customize it with Xsense,Sense 6 and so on. Finally I find a dual sim phone for my needs.
Hi bro, I just have a question if you dont mind, can I root the dual sim M8 without loosing OTA official update, just rooting no recover no missing up the device
Well lets see here , regular sim doesnt get updates regularly like normal m8 ( from several sources including htc themselves ) , and no rom devolpment as the second post said
other than that the device is excelent and the best i've ever seen in handling 2 sims and the difference in the price isnt hight

to root u must have superuser ,and to have superuser u must have custom recovery , so noo , ota needs stock recovery but u can always root and revert back to stock in 5 mins , jus tmake sure u have the correct recovery img

yes, thats a good point. have you rooted yours?
ok, it looks like there is a twrp for M8 dual sim which means it can be rooted and i think that will be enough to keep me happy for now at least.
also i assume it is on the list of phones to get htc official android L so now i am talking myself back into this...
another question, can you disable either sim when its not required without taking it out?
Yes you can disable one sim from the setting without phisically removing it…

UPDATE: I decided to get the m8 dual sim today
I know if I bought the single sim version I will regret it later.
as all have said before, its sweeeet
fyi, I bought it in Carrefour in Abu Dhabi. they had a discount today as this weekend is Eid Al Adha holiday.
cost was 2249AED (about 610USD, 380GBP) and included a matching grey dot view case and 2 htc branded screen protectors (actually cost a bit less as i got points on the store card and air miles)
its the 16GB version but as i have a 64GB card to add in thats more than enough (for now...)
which i thought was a pretty good deal
(i know its only the first day but already i am missing root for titanium backup )
I currently have boost mobile and I'm wanting to switch carriers but boost is refusing to unlock my sim card. They say I don't meet the requirements yet I bought this phone from them and have had service on it for well over a year. Their excuse is that since I changed my phone number, it hasn't been a year. I saw a few websites offering to unlock it but I need to know a reputable one. Android sim unlock dot com has one of the lowest prices. Any input would be great. TIA.
this reply will likely get deleted, but www.idoneapps.com is 100% legit. ive unlocked 4 phones thru them. NoDial is the mod over there and he is as legit as they come. They also have a smaller forum over there too and are quite helpful

no idea man. motos always have been a headache for me. best thing to do is find a paid unlock site and pay for it with a CC so you can dispute the charge if they stiff ya. sim unlocks are rarely free and its usually when an employee goes rogue just before they quit/get fired LOL im betting that these unlocks are done by employees with a side hustle
