I formatted my 32 gig sd to EXT4 so I can carry some large files. The current roms(stock or aftermarket) wont recognize it at all, and it always says blank SD card or unsupported filesystem. I tried that sd in my G2 with CM7, it atually worked brilliantly. So any way to make ROM recognize EXT4? flashing kernel?
Thanks,folks
I don't think it has anything to do with the kernel. But you do need to get a ROM that supports it. Hopefully those will be coming along soon.

Yeah, I tried couple roms here, none of them works.
This is a hack that that allows you to swap internal storage with your external SD card so you can increase your app data storage.
All credits go to original i9300 App2ExtSD Hack by mattiadj. I simply hacked it to work with U.S. versions and also I've added code so it will disable this feature when you don't have a microSD card inserted (app storage will default to internal when no microSD card is inserted).
E.g. If you have 16GB internal storage on Galaxy S3, you can install this witih a 64GB microSD card and swap the storage and get 64GB on your app storage instead of 16GB.
Before you can use this, you will need:
1) Rooted Galaxy S3 (SCH-I535/SPH-L710/SGH-T999/SCH-I747) or also Canadian versions too (i747m, etc...etc...)
2) A ROM/kernel with init.d support!
3) I've only tested this with TouchWiz-based ROMs, so it should work on stock ROMs and any TouchWiz-based ROMs, not sure on CM9 or CM10.
4) You must use the FAT32 or EXTFAT zip file below, depending on what format your microSD Card is in! (e.g. if you have a FAT32 microSD card, use FAT32)
To get this working, simply flash the zip files in your CWM Recovery:
Download and Details:
http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-t...-external-microsd-for-u-s-canadian-galaxy-s3/
If you do not have init.d support, you can also enable on any rooted phone by using Script Manager, here's a quick tutorial:
I recommend you to FORMAT your microSD card once to get camera working flawless before using this hack!
How to disable this:
If for some reason you are having trouble, simply delete /system/etc/init.d/11extsd2internalsd.
OR
if you leave your microSD card out during boot (then re-insert it after), your phone will work as normal (internal storage used for app data).
Awesome Z! Thanks much needed.

I don't think it works on AOKP/CM9/CM10 ROMs, I am making a new script later today though.

You don't have to randomly install, check your storage in settings and you should see the two flipped.

Right now it doesnr seem computable for all roms or kernles. Zedomax has a kernel in these forums that'll work though. Just flash it to the current rom your on you should be good to go

I think you can use Script Manager also.
Hey there guy I flashed this and it didn't seem to do anything I've got a 32gb card formatted to fat32 I checked the init.d folder the script is in there but when I look at my apps in settings it still says the same amount as when I started. I'm running ktoonsez kernel on my stock rom

Title is misleading ...real apps2sd just allows you to move apps to external SD without loosing your internal SD.

Most likely the kernel you are running isn't processing init.d correctly but you can also use Script Manager app I think.

Hi,
My file system on both my 32GB SD Card and my GS3 SPH-L710 is "Generic Hierarchical". I'm running "ClockworksMod" and my build is "VPALG8". I'm also using "SuperUser". Can I use this "(MOD) App2ExtSD2 ?? Also, I'm not sure if the ROM I'm running supports "init.d". Maybe you can clarify. Also if I'm required to Format my 32GB SD Card to FAT32 will the phones Generic Hierarchical SYS read it and once formatted to FAT32 can I re-Format it back to Generic Hierarchical SYS?? or perhaps these 2 file SYS's are compatible?? Please HELP me! Even though I've tried to "read up" on these 2 file SYS I'm still a bit confused about them!
Thanks,
Tim

Does that mean we don't need Rom/Kernel that support init.d?
I am using Arial ROM, and stock kernel, and I"m thinking they don't support init.d.
I just bought a 64GB micro sdxc card..brand new....when I try to do ANYTHING in the lates 6.02.03 recovery, I get this error....Everything worked before I put this card in...Windows CAN access it with phone plugged in etc. I formatted it from exfat to fat 32 using Easeus Partition manager, flashed CWM and same error...so I flashed CWM to the latest (6.02.03) and same problem. I am running Wicked Rom, and have had no probs until the card was replaced, and so I did some Google searches that lead me down the path of formatting...which I had already done..but nothing...Can anyone throw me a bone here?...Im not sure what else it could be...One post said maybe the rom didnt support it?...but to me that doesnt mke sense..Thanks in Advance...Larry..P.S..I also formatted it with the option in settings on the phone which it worked fine etc...but same thing...maybe the CWM doesnt support it?..if so...maybe a link to an older one?...Im almost sure that I had the same version on my 32G card as well..

I had similar issue before but I got it solved by formatting to FAT32 using this program: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm
The issue I had was not because the ROM didn't support it, it was the kernel that didn't support it. I don't know if you're having similar issue or not, but if you're willing to experiment, you might try that if your ROM didn't have the stock kernel in it.
Good luck
Works in other phones?
Does it work in another phone?
I have a R800a with unlocked bootloader. I was using CM 7.2 until a friend pointed out an update that made jellybean roms more atractive, so I went for CDan's Turbo JB kernel and CM 10. Then I realized CM 10 could not recognize my sdcard, so I rolled back to CM 7.2. Since then, my card slot does not "work" properly, I've tried exchanging several times, even went back to stock ROM. Even CWM recovery gives an error when trying to mount sdcard. Anyone can help?

As a matter of fact I did, but to no avail. I've also fastboot a recovery image, but it isn't able to mount my SD card. Using other SD cards, and reformatting isn't useful either.
Format your sd card. I know that sucks to hear. You should still be able to mount to pc through cwm if you don't have a memory card slot.

I had issues where some SD will not get recognized by CWM. Use a different SD card.

I've tried those things, but still can't mount the SD card. The SD I'm currently using is recognized by my PC with no problems, and all others I've tested on my phone are working too, just not on my Play.
I just installed the CM10.2 and am finding it difficult to work with the external sd card.
The sd card shows up on storage and I can mount and unmount it without issues.
The card will not be available unless an app is rooted.
I cannot use it with CoolReader which I used to do when I had the stock ROM.
CoolReader will only show the internal card.
File Manager will also show the internal one only unless root is enabled for it.
I did format the card through recovery as well.
Is it not possible to use the sd card without root privileges?
I had thought by installing a custom ROM I would gain more capability but I seem to have lost here.
Sounds like either an issue reading the card or a broken symlink. What kind of card is it? Try formatting it as fat32 on a computer.

It's a generic 16gb card class4.
I formatted it from recovery which I understand does fat32.
As soon as I revert back to stock i am able to use with all apps without a problem.
Try another Rom, one built from CM and see if it works. And be aware android devices tend to be really finicky when it comes to sd cards. Sometimes you have to format on the device, but sometimes it works better if you do so on a pc. I still say it's worth a try. Then if you still have the same problem, you might consider searching and asking in the Rom thread.

In that case, your option is to format on a PC.
