[Q] Has anyone played with this ICS build for gsm? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

There's a link in the article,
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s2-android-4-0-3-ics-xxkp8-firmware-46396/

Oh dear...

I pulled this from the article. Read carefully.
This firmware and the instructions for installing it is for the international variant of the Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100) and may not work for the U.S. variants or other variants (e.g., Epic 4G Touch, Skyrocket, GT-I9100G, etc.).
If another person flashes this, I will disown my first born

Do not play with it you'll brick your phone. Calk had a version with no radios or bootloader. Look for that or watch qbkings video review.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk

not flashing but I am gonna take it apart. Not stirring the pot guys, just came back from Verizon and I miss my nexus, I would love to figure out some porting. Just looking for input thats all.

Some on the Epic Touch have tried it. LOL. And there phone was screwed afterwards. Honestly though I don't know how buggy it is.

OP. Down? Nice

I have it uploaded to Rounsy's Mediafire last night. Let me see if I can get him to post a link. I am trolling NYC right now. That ICS RDF has me stopping and checking the forum frequently. Lol

I flashed the international ics when I first got this phone accidentally.I didn't realize that there were so many variants of the sgs2. It flashed fine. No radios or data and no back or home button... Something like that.
I just ran the sfhub stuff and everything was fine.

so happy about this!
Don't get too excited yet.. we still need someone to develop an aosp kernel for our phone. We dont even have one for gb yet so i think it will be a while. I'm syncing the code now. If I knew how to convert a kernel I would. Lol

Saw this as well. I hope we can get someone to get us an AOSP Kernel. Without it it this doesn't help us.
Yeah, it will probably be a while before we see a beta or alpha rom. It will probably be January or longer before a stable ROM is available.
Better luck on the Nexus S 4G though, or maybe even the Evo phones since they have worker CM and AOSP kernals.
bubby says he has an aosp kernel, but he also said his laptop died
Clearr shock that baby to life!

Ohh maybe I'll build it for my nexus s 4g
Does anyone know what converting a kernel to aosp entails? I'll give it a shot for sure. I'm guessing the first step is to unpack our boot.img but I don't know what else has to be done. I wish there was a guide somewhere that tells you how to get your kernel working with aosp

ICS Release Date?

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone maybe knew when the Official ICS For the epic touch 4g was?
Nope... No one knows officially... :/
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I got tired of waiting . Went to the leaks! Lol But it can't be far of now, seeing as other phones around the US are getting it.

It is coming out tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No not really. Plenty of thread already discussing this.
well i know that the ICS is coming out for t mobile soon so i was thinking maybe it is coming out for sprint as well maybe
No official date yet, leaks are getting closer to being ready though. A few apparently were packaged for OTA testing, just to give a better idea on where it stands.

Came from evo 3d

sup peeps to make a long story short my 3d thought it could walk on water like Jesus did and come to find out it was a fail fml ........so sprint sent me a epic touch. Im knew to the whole Samsung galaxy s thing but I'm pretty sure I will get the hang of it specially with the Odin thing but my question is what's a good stable ROM with no bugs decent battery life and no lag? I wanna start this experience off right!!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Calkulin's ROM (Gingerbread version, not ICS) or Blazer ROM. Don't flash ICS ROMs as they have the potential to perma-brick your phone.
Don't listen to this guy he knows nothing. Flash the goodness rom for a great ics experience. Calk gb rom is great, his current ics build is stable but horrible battery life. Long story short flash slim n trim, the goodness, or cm9 just make sure you flash from gb el26 kernel with cwm and you have NO risk of brick at all.

Says the guy with 3 thanks and 62 posts. I worked in a Sprint store as a technician; trust me I know what I'm talking about. Yes, you can circumvent the issues by doing what you said (flashing a Gingerbread kernel), but one misstep and you're screwed. I said nothing wrong; this guy just got his phone and he said he's still trying to get the hang of things, so like I said, I don't recommend flashing an ICS ROM [right away].
Working for sprint doesn't mean you know shiz, people brick only if they don't follow directions

Pretty good. I've owned a LOT of phones since the Evo 4G (which is still one of if not my favorite). The Epic Touch is a solid phone and will chew and spit out anything you throw at it (especially high-end games like GTA 3, Shadowgun, Riptide, etc). The camera is amazing too. You're gonna have a blast with this thing. I'm actually buying an international GS3 and heading to Straight Talk though, so I'm selling my Sprint GNexus soon.
Alright fellas come on now this how you show a new guy what the epic touch family is about lol naw but seriously I understand where you both are coming from and I've seen product around here a lot so I know he wouldn't steer me wrong but I see where yall coming from and thanks

Nothing; when Sprint runs out of supply of a phone, the system offers other phones that are usually of the same tier or better (iPhone is an exception, will never be offered or repaired by Sprint). Some reps will be nice and give you a list of choices, but most of the time they'll tell you what they've chosen for you. It's really up to the manager.

I really wish people would do more research before saying such things. Yes, there is a chance of a brick, but it has been figured out now and some safe ICS options have been developed. Check out the Development thread and look at agat63 and sfhub's offerings at the very least.

Agreed, if people read and follow the instructions, including familiarizing themself with the How not to brick your E4GT thread (link below), then bricking becomes a lesser threat.

Also to the OP, try out Blu Kuban if you're still looking for a good ROM.

From a ns4g to s2

I've been around for a bit from the tmo dash to the touch pro to the evo and soon to the epic touch. I have a few questions which i hope some of.you can help me with. Does this have the same weak radios and horrible battery of the ns4g? And what's with all these build numbers fh this and that? What would changing the modem do? Is cwm still the most popular recovery? And finally, it has ics on it so will I be able to root?
I have been trying to read but I'm getting confused. I was able to only update the radios, rom and kernel now there are all these options.
Thanks in advance for any useful info

I had to root the evo through adb shell. I was too impatient to wait for a one click solutuon. That was a pain and a process. I've read that the et4g is one click root so I'm happy

Thanks for the replies. From reading I'm gathering that a modem is the same as a radio? And do I have to look at anything before I can just flash away (I mean in terms of being compatible). I hear these are easy to brick also...

Just look for the newest one download the .zip and flash through recovery. It all depends were u live radios r different for every phone a new modem might not work as good as a old one so just download a couple and which works better.

I got this from a friend who is getting an iPhone. He just had his S2 replaced like a month ago so I get a new phone for cheap. Im holding out my upgrade for a quadcore phone. I refuse to go with the LG only because I dont think the developer or factory support will be there. This should make my wait more bearable with my huge leap from NS4g.
I have jelly bean right now with everything working ok (except the massive battery drain) on my NS4G. Anything close to that on this phone? How is the developer support? Im coming from a phone with ok support and maybe like 3 choices that are updated consistantly.
Yes all modems are compatible with any rom and we have cm10 and aokp versions of jellybean. The brick issues are much much less now that we developers have identified the problem and made safe recoveries. Don't flash anything in stock recovery.
