I have a question. I've seen somewhere on this forum that rooting my phone would cancel my warranty. So, i was wondering, if i root my phone while staying S-on would this apply or not???

The root will apply but when u unlock bootloader, then your warranty would be voided(canceled). Your wildfire s needs to have a unlocked bootloader in order to root; it will still say s-on in bootloader but the bootloader itself is unlocked, not the secu_flag (s-on/s-off.

Hi all,
This is my first post to this forum so please be gentle. I've searched for and answer and I've read the FAQ. In the FAQ, the first question is:-
Q) Can I root my phone?
A- Yes, only if you have S-OFF
Now that HTC have released the Unlock Bootloader for this phone, is it still true that a Wildfire S can't be rooted while S-ON?
My main requirement is to be able to delete the pre-installed apps I don't want.
Thanks

If you have Unlock Bootloader you can root WFS with S-ON
So the FAQ is wrong!
Thanks btw.
s-off was the only way to unlock the bootloader, untill now that htcdev released unlock, which is actually unlocking bootloader, but leaving s-on for the sim lock...

FAQ isn't wrong, just not updated
Unlock bootloader via HTCDev allows you to root WFS, but it will be still S-ON
My HTC One X have been rooted and unlocked, can i S-ON and Locked my bootloader? This is because my phone get problem want to send warranty~hope got reply soon!
You can relock your bootloader, but it will say "relocked" so HTC will still know you have run custom software on it. It may or may not affect your warranty claim

This could be a discussion, what if .... I unlock my bootloader but leave the phone as it is ( no custom recovery, rom etc ) just to "try" the htcdev unlock method. Now I relock the bootloader and it says relocked.....but never changed anything else.

You are still at the mercy of your HTC support guy. As long as it says relocked, they would possibly argue that something you did messed the phone up, unless it's a hardware problem.

You can S-off only by using a XTC clip yet. HTCdev only unlocks bootloader.

If you want to root your device, you don't need to S-off. Unlocked bootloader is enough. You can proceed with root and enjoy the hack.
This is the response I got from HTC'es tech support. After asking them why are they not providing S-OFF solution:
Romeo: As long this action is cancel the warranty of the phone, our engineers decide to not provide support to remove the phone security, as most of our customers are not advanced users to know wich programs may harm them phones and cancel the warranty.

Anyway, I have S-ON too, have bootloader unlocked and rooted. This is almost all you need for installing mods like CM7, CM9, CM10, MIUI etc...
I hace an s-offed M8, with an unlocked bootloader.
However, it has an issue and needs to be returned to warranty.
If you're s-off you can remove all the tampered warnings and when you lock your bootloader it'll be changed to "locked" instead of relocked.
If I restore to complete stock and perform all these steps and undo the s-off, will HTC honour my warranty?
Or is your IMEI given to HTC when you unlock it through HTC DEV and they blacklist you?
Anyone with any experience regarding this would be much appreciated.
They know you unlocked. I would lock bootloader and leave it soff. Going s-on throws a tampered label. If they try to charge you just argue that you are not unlocked and they must prove that unlocking broke your phone. If you are in the US you should be good. Harder if you are in another country.

Ya you shouldn't have problem. But you shouldn't try to go to s-on this may cause problem.Just change the label to Locked and restore nandbackup/Stock rom and you are good to go!
I'm not sure what I flashed to cause this issue. I used sunshine months back and acquired s-off and unlocked bootloader. Now when I go to bootloader, it says locked and s-on. I ran sunshine again and it told me I was already s-off, and there was nothing to do. How do I get things back to saying s-off and unlocked?? Is there a tool to flash and toggle?? I was going to use my unlock key from HTC dev, but I don't want to wipe all my data. What is the best solution??

I have no solution for you, and I doubt anyone here will. Post your problem on the Sunshine S-Off thread. You will probably find some help there.
Copy and paste what you posted here in the reply I am quoting. Also state that you started a thread and you are sorry for cross posting, but that is what was advised. Good luck! I hope you get your stuff fixed up right.
maybe you have custom bootloader with faked S-ON and faked LOCKED message?
