Hello. Months ago I used unrevoked to gain root and S-OFF but it wasn't completely successful, i only got root. It was probably because in the last steps of process after one of the reboots phone didn't connect to pc(there was some usb drivers issues, sometimes phone wont connect, now i think i solved it) so unrevoked stopped and I didn't get S-OFF but only root. Is it ok if I now run unrevoked on my already rooted phone, is it safe and will I get S-OFF?
Another question, do I need to flash a new radio if i want to move from stock 2.2 to 2.3 CM7?

Thanks for answer. I thought Revolutionary method was a bit more difficult now that ive read about it is quite simple and similar to unrevoked..
now my question is: my phone is rooted and recovery is already flashed from back when i used unrevoked, it's clockworkmod now. will nothing bad happen if i now run Revolutionary, will it override the clockworkmod and that will be okay ?

Thats because UnrEVOked ONLY roots*. To S-OFF, you must use alpharev or revolutionary. Revolutionary is the newer version and is also by the Alpharev team.
When you run revolutionary, just say NO to the recovery replacement question and you will be fine.
*Unless you are CDMA (Which you're not)
I used unrevoked initially to gain root access and find my feet before using revolutionary to gain S-OFF. I think it updated the CWM recovery. It should work fine.

Hmm i was sure that it gives S-OFF..i guess i misunderstood something. Thanks for answer! I'll look on wikis and howtos and stuff and then try to use revolutionary.
and, should i replace the clockworkmod recovery with revolutionary's recovery or not?
what about radio, is it absolutely necessary to flash a new radio if you change rom for example if i want to go from stock 2.2 to CM7 2.3?

Indeed, unrevoked only roots. If you are CDMA you can also get unrevoked forever to s-off. But not for GSM
Please check what cwm version you have?
As you have PVT4 version 2.x.x.x are not compatible
is you have 2.x.x.x run this command in terminal emulator (free app in market)
su
cat /proc/mtd
If erase size si 20000 you ok if 40000 flash different recovery (4ext or rmd)

Linux is not needed... just burn iso on cd/dvd and boot pc from cd/dvd drive it is pretty same as unrevoked just you need to run it from cd
I did my s-off with it twice on my 2 desires but that was ages ago... revolutionary did not exist that time
If you would like to know just contact operator on freenode chat
Tried to run revolutionary again, this time i get "Communications with phone unexpectedly interrupted"..same was happening with unrevoked months ago when i tried rooting (but somehow after 10+ tries it worked).. now did a test, connected the phone few times, in some of them phone connected successfully, other times showed up as unrecognised device..i wonder if thats a driver or cable problem or even phone's..ill get a new usb cable, if that wont help ill reinstall windows..
Hi,
I went through this stuff recently, and I can tell you that using alpharev is very easy, as kotag82 was saying it's just an ISO file to download, if you have VMware you can just create a VM and boot from the ISO, otherwise burn the ISO on a CD and boot your PC directly from it. Then it's just a matter of following the on-screen indications and there's no need to know about linux or anything else
My device is exactly like yours, and I did everything in less than half an hour with no issues at all. The only thing is, if you have a custom ROM using A2SD+ or Data++ or something like that, it's better to install a CM7 before starting the procedure with alpharev, because there can be some compatibility issues if you don't.
Hope I've been useful,
bye bye

The only requirement right now is that the ROM you're running is rooted.
As techniques such as 'data2ext' have been popping up, these might disturb our finely-tuned flashing process.
Please revert to a rooted stock ROM if possible. Your /data partition is used for temporary storage of important files.
That is from alpharev...

Hello all,
I am having a bit of a problem here.
I managed to download Unrevoked 3.2 to root my HTC Desire GSM on the official 2.2 Froyo.
Ik installed the Hboot drivers correctly and when i start the tool everything goes well untill he reboots. After the reboot this message comes up:
"Failed to load recovery image".
Am i doing something wrong or what?
I have a .zip file with a recovery on my SD card.
Thanks in advance,

I can bet you have HBOOT 0.92 or other than Unrevoked can't make
How can i see my Hboot version? Is 0.92 not supported? Will it be? Why are smurfs blue and why am i asking so many questions?
Power on your device with the volume down, the HBOOT version will be the third line down. If you have 0.92 than you need to downgrade.
There is a link under android development with a tutorial.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
Ah offcourse. So i have 0.92. And so it isn't possible to root my device on the official Froyo update (yet)?
I was under the impression that UnrEVOked 3.2 could root later HBOOTs without a downgrade.
However, the point is moot at the moment, because 3.2 was pulled due to some bugs, so that may well be what is causing the OPs issue.
Regards,
Dave
3.2 Is indeed also for Froyo devices. But 0.92 bootloader is an exeption maybe?
3.2 Was pulled down because of some problems with 2 Evo users. It should be working on the Desire tho.

The 0.92 bootloader came with the Froyo OTA.
So, if UnrEVOked 3.2 is supposed to root Froyo based Desires, it stands to reason that it should be so with HBOOT 0.92, because if you've got Froyo with an earlier bootloader, you must've already rooted at some point.
Regards,
Dave
Why, if 3.2 was taken down for bugs and screwing up peoples phones, did you try and use it?? Seems like a silly idea to me...
And 2.10.405.2 is HBOOT 0.93
it does 092 just fine. i did mine. you are doing something wrong. remove htc sync

It went offline for 2 EVO users. There were no Desire problems.
But it was taken down as it COULD cause issues for any device. Just cause it was 2 EVOs doesn't mean it won't kill other phones as well...if it was OK for all phones they'd still have it on their site with a note that it might cause issue if you have an EVO

One thing I would say about UnreEVOked in general is that I found the Windows version by far the most difficult to get up and running, whereas the OS/X version just runs with no messing around with drivers etc. I'd imagine the same is true of the Linux version.

Dave

Yes i did install the drivers correctly and connected my device in mass storage mode with debugging turned on. Running on Win 7 64BIT but that should not be the problem. I am willing to try it on MAC OSX if somebody wants to give me the OSX files in a PM.

Hi guys I'm trying to s-off using alpharev ISO disc...it goes through the process then after rebooting stage 3 I get 4 lines that say unary operator expected ... I shut down pc and phone boots as usual...
I'm running rxmix s v1.1
maybe change to stock ROM and try s-off again
Yes like the post above switch to a ROOTED stock froyo rom worked for me, the reason your getting errors is because the rom you are running has probably got data2whatever, data++ ect... this affects the alpha rev process.
Ditto above. Alpharev doesn't work on a2sd or similar ROMs... Look back a couple pages and you'll see I started a thread with the same issue. I'm on IC GB a2sd+...
Once pc is repaired, I plan to load stock Telstra RUU and try again, then re-root...

First, you better use USB stick instead of a disc, it is faster a more reliable.
Secondly, you won't be able to get s-off unless you flash either stock rom or AOSP rom ( oxygen worked for me without any problems).

Happy to hear
Hi folks. Writing this without any hope that someone is online at the moment.
I'm currently using alpharev to flash HBOOT on my htc desire. It has stucked on step 3 with two lines on phone's screen:
Aplharev SPLBOOT version 2.0
...
Normal NAND detected. Non-PVT4
and keeps hanging like that nearly an hour already.
The phone is rooted, with Clockworkmod recovery and InserCoin 2.0.1 DATA2EXT ROM installed.
Did anybody have the same behaviour while flashing HBOOT?
Should I be patient and wait for some miracle to happen?
thanks in advance.

use the new S-OFF utility. It's a lot quicker and easier. Just make sure you uninstall HTC Sync, or at least make sure it isn't running.

finally I've restored my previous ROM (and sh*tted a pile of bricks during this hour).
HBOOT screen says that my device is still S-ON. strange... maybe that's because of 'DATA2EXT' ROM onboard.

You won't be able to alter HBoot without S-Off...
I am not sure how the new Utility that bortak linked to works, but I know that the "old" alpharev will not S-Off if you are using A2SD/D2SD/D2EXT type ROMs. You will need to flash stock RUU (do not use latest GB update RUU!!!), or one of the AOSP ROMs, such as Oxygen, before proceeding.
Once you have S-Off, you can go back and re-root, then upgrade your HBoot etc.

I missed it the first time also, had lots of dramas, and finally spotted that note after many frustrating hours. It should have been written in bright red, 72 cap at the top of screen!!
You need to use an a2sd Rom like lee Droid 2.5.
Alpha rev state this at start of web page using data2sd can cause problems.
Flash lee Droid 2.5 and try it again, you should be fine

The other day my phone just decided it wanted to get stuck on the HTC loading screen without being able to get into recovery and flashing back to a previous point, I had to go back to square 1 and flash back to stock.
So this morning I'm going about re-rooting and re-flashing a rom etc. However I have tried to download unrevoked 3 and it says it can't find the page when i go to download, does anyone have a different download for it.
A second question, I debranded my phone will it still be debranded or re-branded? is there anyway to find out?
Which version has your hboot? Because if it's high enough, you should use revolutionary:
http://revolutionary.io
There you get rooting plus S-OFF in two very easy steps.
SwiftKeyed from dGB with Transparent XDA App
its 0.93.0001 any idea about the debranding issue?
Well unrevoked could do it, but go ahead and use revolutionary instead. You'll get root and s-off.
It's pretty much unrevoked and alpharev combined, and it has been updated to support the newest hboot versions.

Ok thankyou. I've just noticed my phone is resetting itself alot with the stock rom. I always thought this was the rom I had running that it was unstable. I guess this means there's an issue with the phone. I think it's over heating, is this an issue i need to send off to HTC for?
Sounds like a motherboard issue to me
Swyped from my CM7.1 Desire using XDA Premium App
Ok I'm going to try to explain this as simply as I can. First let me start by stating that I have searched high and low through XDA and about a dozen other websites in two hours with NO luck.
First, I downloaded CM7 and installed ClockWorkMod Recovery.
Second, I had it reboot in to recovery only to find myself staring a black screen with white bars. Upon further research I come to find that this panel type (slcd) is incompatible with recovery console (RLY?!) and that I am looking at the recovery console, its just blocked by a huge black image.
Third, I take it upon myself and figure I can just use ADB/SDK to flash this friggin' thing through the CMD prompt. But Ha-Ha this is not possible as I have S-ON listed in the HBOOT Menu
Fourth, I found a way to switch to S-OFF but come to find two things. One, this requires use of the recovery console which is inaccessible to me. Secondly, under the "Compatibility" list for the Droid Inc1 on Unrevoked Forever's site, it does not have the most recent Radio listed (Mine is currently 2.15.10.10.07.07 and theres no way in hell I'm attempting this with that said)
Does anyone have any suggestions or should I just give up?
Since your s-on you will need to do an ruu.exe, the one with your pc. (http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=22) This will get you back to stock recovery. If you then want to go s-off you will need to downgrade with scottys downgrade tutorial found in the general section i believe, and then use unrevoked to gain s-off and root.
Thank you sir
I already had root through Unrevoked 1-click, I'll try this and see if I can flash Cyanogen through the ADB Shell.
Thanks!

I'm new here and a kind a noob also at all this things about rooting a phone!
I've got a Desire Bravo, and I want to root it and put a custom ROM on it, but I simply can't do it!!

My HTC is a Desire, Bravo model, GSM, and my bootloader version is 0.93.0001 ..
Anyone knows a method to root this thing?
Any help is welcome! =))

root with http://unrevoked.com/ choose desire you must have all the right drivers installed for your phone though.
and burn this http://alpharev.nl/ to CD/DVD using IMG BURN to get S-OFF

i had no issues with unrevoked
Might depend on which version of the HTX Desire you are using

I have one of the later HTC Desire phones with the "PVT 4 EraseSize 40000".
Regards rooting and recovery, I found I could not use the UnRevoked method if i tried to flash it using the ClockworkMod recovery image. When I tried using AmonRa 2, it all worked fine.
Regards S-OFF, the "Revolutionary" method only worked for me when I had the stock HTC rom installed. It didnt seem to be compatible with any of the CyanogenMod based roms.
Hope this helps.

How is it easier to download the file, waste a CD by burning this ISO, reboot your PC, boot into alpharev, plug your phone in and let it do it's thing in contrary to:
download the file, plug in the phone, run the .exe, type in the beta key.
I have rooted my desire with unveroked but no way to put it S OFF. I tryed already almost all, but never with this sistem with the CD. I will tried this week.
I have to burn a CD or it s possible to do it with a pendrive?
I can turn it on windows or it must be linux?
Another easy way to use the Alpharev CD would be using a Virtual Machine. I had no problem with VirtualBox, which i used as i had no CD-Rs around (and there was no revolutionary yet). Worked without problems, and no reboot required.

Have you looked at my guide?
You need:
- Stock ROM
- HTC & Fastboot drivers
- Type the Beta key in correctly (c&p is good for that)
- about 30 seconds of your time
Have you looked at my guide?
Iff you tell me where I will have a look on it before to do it...
What s that about the beta key?

I think the contents page would be a good place to start.
Thank you so much ... i don't know what i've made different but now i was able to make S-OFF with revolutionari ... now i'm gonna try to make root, then a backup of my phone and later custom rom ... this is the right order, right?
thank you once again =)
already with root!!
at the weekend i'll try a new rom =))
many many thanks!!
by thew way, unrevoked didn't worked again ... although i'v made S-OFF ... but it worked with "unlock root" ... so, now it's fine with me
sorry, I've another question ...
so, i'm gonna install a new rom .. on the cyannogenmod desire guide i've seen this:
Flashing CyanogenMod
Amon_Ra's Recovery process
1- Download the latest version of CyanogenMod.
Optional: Download the Google Apps for the device.
2- Place the CyanogenMod update.zip file on the root of the SD card.
Optional: Place the Google Apps .zip on the root of the SD card also.
3- Boot into Amon_Ra's Recovery.
4- Once you enter Amon_Ra's Recovery, scroll up & down with the trackball, and the trackball button to select.
5- Select Wipe, then Wipe data/factory reset
6- Select Flash zip from sdcard.
7- Select the CyanogenMod update.zip.
Optional: Install the Google Apps by performing steps 6 & 7 again and choosing the Google Apps update.zip.
8- Once the installation has finished, select Reboot system. The HTC Desire (GSM) now should boot into CyanogenMod.
Is this only for those who already i've a custom rom and are just trying to update, or this is a good way to install my first ROM?
(sorry, i'me really a bit noob at this things xD)
