Hey, all, just wanted to say that I'm new to Android and have probably been on here during the Samsung Blackjack days.
Any who, I need to be pointed on the right direction. What is the best ROM to use right now (stable)? I really hate the T-Mobile bloatware and have already rooted my phone, using the required steps given by this site.

Juggernut
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Saying which ROM is best is very subjective. I would recommend trying dewizzed, macnut, and juggernaut. Those in my opinion and in same order are the most stable. Try each one for a days and see which one out ultimately feel suits you best. Everybody likes something different so start flashing and testing.
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?
I use spotify with my phone, does it need a specific ROM or it just needs to be based off of Gingerbread or whatever?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
If you like the feel of the stock ROM, but want extra features and tweaks, go for Juggernaut. It is extremely fast, stable, and well developed overall.
And spotify should work.

Yea, I hear yea. What I meant to say is I want a stable ROM without the Tmobile bloatware and I want it to be faster than what is already loaded; a slimmed down version.

havent used jugs in awhile but i believe you have lockscreen options under rom manager..and on the market there are tons lock screen replacements. go locker, magic locker, those are 2 good ones out of many. once you have either those simply find what theme you like.

I use to post and utilize this forum when I had a Vibrant. I love my SII. In fact, I love it so much that, although I bought it the day it came out, I have waited until now to finally root it.
I'm so out of the loop. Are the ICS roms ready to go as daily drivers or should I wait until T-Mo drops theirs? If it's all G2G, then what are your opinions on what's best?
If you feel that Ginger is better as a daily, which is good to jump into?
Keep in mind that I am not looking for super powers and problems. I just want a good daily driver. I like being able to back **** up and use some of the features available to rooted devices, drop bloat, and theme a bit.
I'll run a log of my experiences and try to find issues, if necessary, so that this thread can appropriately stay in this section. If that still is considered a rule breaker, then I politely ask the MODs to move it to the best section.
Thanks in advance.

Whether you run a log of issues or not, the topic has no bearing on development.
I can tell you from experience that the ICS Perfection is a pretty stable build. I have been running it for a week without much of a hicup. Obviously the gingerbread ROMs are more stable then the ICS ones. I used the CM7 build as a daily driver before ICS and lived it. Since I went to ICS, Eugene has started work on fixing some of the bugs on his version of CM7. Best thing to do is test them out and see what one is your style.

grrrrrrrrrrrr.......hahaha
(WARNING! The following is my opinion only!)
If your phone is your lifeline, and you HAVE to have it be as solid as possible with no glitches whatsoever, you have no choice but to run either 100% unrooted stock, or something like Mr X's stock rooted ROM.
All other ICS builds are hacks (some very good ones, but hacks nonetheless).
ICS official will be released in the next couple of weeks for our phone and I would suggest be patient.
Or you can root and remove the bloat /carrier iq yourself.
which for me has been the most functional/stable.
Theres alot of very good roms here.
Not everyone has the same issues,so you just have to flash and see.
Going back to stock is a cinch.
The best I flashed was digital warfare.
I WISH raverx3x selfkang ICS is good to go,but alas...

I have been battling back and forth between touchwiz roms and AOSP roms. . So if any developers are looking for a new rom to make, here is my idea (yes, i know it is not a new idea and has been done on many devices). What i would like to have is the stabilty and battery life of a UVDLJA rom including touchwiz launcher, with AOSP lockscreen, inverted AOSP contacts and messenger.I don't know if its possible, but could there be options for this using aroma in the touchwiz roms?
Something I saw while working in the s2 board with my wife's phone was a rom with a touchwhiz base and the aokp rom control features added, I personally would love something like that
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
TL;DR... I agree on the new rom idea lol. And I *****ed and moaned about the roms we have all in relativity are too damn close to each other. But I still respect their hard work, and praise them all as they are doing things I wish I could do.
I wish I had the knowledge and computer strong enough to do this kinda work, I would've had the rom up and running so long ago lol... I used my phone to get most of it working. building sounds and apps into a rom little things here and there just started to break I gave up.
This would be my ultimate DD never have to flash a rom again. I absolutely despise the "nature" that Samsung built in to this phone.
We have about 3 sounds mods everyone focuses on, some cameras and Keyboards people build into the rom, some awesome themes I'm extremely happy with. I would really like a TW rom with all AOSP sounds instead of the water drops and stuff. Camera from TW, LockScreen from AOSP, Notification and Status bar options from AOKP, 4.2 little things here and there as options.
Know I mean no disrespect and I do appreciate what our guys do in the Dev section.
I miss the devs that worked on those kinda things. We have great guys here (I might get [email protected] for this one) but in general they all seem to be adding the same things; Acid, Beats, Walkman music, removing other Samsung Apps while others keep them. They all leave bloat like LTETest, and LTEsettings in the /system/app folder. I could keep going and going. Know I mean no disrespect and I do appreciate them again. But where are the old roms like we used to get (mentioned above) we had some great stuff in the G2X also. We had roms that had custom lockscreens to launchers and all sorts of neat things I would've never expected. Maybe it's time I stop helping the stupids and save up and get a new computer with the power to build roms as well. (I won't release them to people though lol)
i know the exactly what you guys need
here's a preview (the MyTouch 4G Version):

give me a couple weeks to really get to know this phone (and find time...high school life w00t) and i'll see what i can do
I am in the process of developing a ROM. Nothing solid yet. I really do agree with keeping the stability and features of stock with some aosp features. At least for me I'll be a start with dev work. I have a Mac so I've already downloaded xcode and working and following dxsidia as guide. It'll take me a while since I work 10 hour shifts at the hospital and also do some website dev on the side.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I'm glad to see people wanting to work on this. I believe it will make a great DD. It seems I'm one of the few that really like the touchwiz launcher and Widgets, but I ask you to please include that in the rom. People can easily download the other launchers from the market.
I agree, anything that is downloadable from the market should stay there. It's great that you can include something in a rom, but so can simply pressing the install button. Any thing that is already a flashable .zip (like beats) or (acId sounds mod) should stay as a flashable .zip. Just my opinion.
In the ATT galaxy S3 forums, there is a rom called nexusmod reloaded that is close to what I am referring to. Its based on ics and I don't think it has inverted apps that we like.

dude, you totally can.
easiest way, though, would be to disable your lockscreen and try out widget locker or something like that.
as far as the inverted apps go, i would hit up some of the guys in the themes and apps section. wouldn't take very long to whip something like that up... hell, even the lockscreen wouldn't take very long to modify.
why CM chooses to build from the source of another device is beyond me. it would be much easier to customize the layout/UI, parameters, and make it functional with the firmware meant for this thing, and you would keep all the functionality of TW.
anyways, yeah.
There is this great divide feeling as I've been playing with my new S3, and it really brings homage to the Linux scene (compare: xfce vs kde vs gnome, etc.).
Though I've settled on TouchWiz for now, there are some things I wish were an option and not "just the way it is".
I finally got kitchen working on my Mac. Got a base up and will hopefully be able to post it later. This is my plan since we be seen this throughout. People want stability of stock and those who love tw features will love this. I will be implementing aroma installer later when I get that injected. I've only built a ROM before for myself but never posted it. It'll be theme free and since it'll be stock most stock themes should work. I basically want people to do the work on their own. If they want to add volume mods like beats , they should flash it on their own . This is an experiment to get my foot out there and I'd love the support. Any name suggestions. ??

I'd like to introduce my first published ROM to the community.
-What is Infinity about?
The purpose of this ROM is for those who don't care much about dealing with bugs and waiting for updates or tweaks to get a daily driver. My project is to keep this as stock as possible because I believe that the touchwiz features are awesome. I'd like to keep the mods to a minimum to maintain functionality and keep the ROM as bug free as possible. Infinity fits perfectly as the name of this ROM as it allows YOU, the user, to make infinite choices to how you want your phone to feel and act like. While I am the chef, I feel its your resposibility to chose the themes and mods ypud like to add as you see fit.
- who this ROM is not for?
This ROM is not for those who are here to flame others or rudely criticize my work. While I accept suggestions and constructive criticism , I will not allow rudeness. Please feel free to post questions or concerns here as I may not ever get to my PMs. Enjoy.
Download instructions:
*download to SD
*backup ROM
*flash in recovery using favorite recovery method
If coming from another ROM I'd recommend wiping data . If coming from stock id still recommend wiping data but your willing to try and dirty flash.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for the sudden death of your phone if you flash this wrong or flash mods not compatible with this.

Running very fast and smooth so far. Did you take out the calendar widget? The app for it is there but no widget.
Awesome. Thanks for the feedback so far. Uh. I probably took the calendar widget out on accident. I will work on it tonight. Still at work. For now. You can push the calendar widget apk into system settings. Screenshot in power menu should be next then I assume. hopefully I get some time tonight if the wife does the come a call in'. There's so much to say but trying to be respectful at the same time. Grrrrrrr. Do you really know what you're doing, or do you only understand the basics and know how to make a flashable zip rom? No I understand where you're coming from. My haste to get this out there superceeded my common sense. Also my poor word choice also can be a fault in people not wanting to try this. I am not completely new at this. Although I am not alone in creating a ROM using the kitchen. That is the difference between "original" android development in this forum and "android development". A few ROMs I've seen in this section were probably made using the kitchen ad out does the basic for you. The rest is actually knowing Smali and baksmali, compiling and dwcompiling of XML files and such. That isy weakness as I have to search countless forums and guides to find out how to do it in my own. Everyone started somewhere. As much as I want to pull this ROM now I feel I should be more careful in what I say and how I add mods and test them. I know nowadays people seek the ROMs that are "flashy" and have tons of features but it comes at a price. I am not just building for people but foe fun and foe myself. I do run my roms and therefore don't want to brick my own device. I appreciate the criticism as you are probably saying what others don't. Its all part of the learning process. On the other hand, there are plenty of awesome ROMs to choose from.

On the other hand, there are plenty of awesome ROMs to choose from.

and you sir have earned my utmost respect, as you called me out exactly how I felt adn few others that have have PM'd me. I'm looking greatly forward to your JB TW/ AOSP rom and so are others. I'm extremely happy the way you took it all sir. and I will gladly test/ tell others how your rom feels. In a an honest matter obviously, but only as you start implementing heavily the CM/AOSP features.

Thanks man. The journey will be long and difficult. Again I appreciate everyone's patience. I have some time tonight to mess around with some code. I believe I have the power menu figured out. And I wanted to ask. Do you guys prefer lidroid toggles which are customizable or something else. I preferably like the stock ones but something customizable could be added as a zip instead of a default. That is why I'd like to really dig into aroma which would allow maximum user customization but its gonna take more than one night of studying the tutorial and testing. I'll add back the calendar and hopefully have advanced power menu up. No eta yet.

crt-on or crt-off would be nice!
Smooth rom bro! Glad to have another developer in the s3 forums. Request: black status bar and I hope the rom will keep a stock look

I believe options in aroma would be the way to go. I personally would like the 15 toggle mod built in. I totally understand that you are learning as you go, i am just thankful to have someone working on this. After you put the calendar back in (lol) and add the basic power mods and such, i would be cool with you adding AOSP features one at a time. That would also help with testing.
Hey I was looking to see if there's a stock themed rom with all the stock features but custom modifications to make it have much better performance? Like with an even higher benchmark than real stock. I've found one but it had horrible performance on my phone... Not just benchmark related performance.. But anyone know a really good one? Sonics version hated my phone.. Clean flash every time

Have you tried "the peoples ROM"? Seems to cover what your looking for

I was looking at it but it's not very stock themed.. What are the quadrant benchmarks like?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
I used Wicked Sensation previously. The battery life is excellent and it's fairly fast although I never did an actual benchmark test. I had the anaconda theme on top of it and I thought it looked nice. I prefer minimal themeing but if you don't like any of the blue ones I would go with this.

I can't believe people still talk about quadrant benchmarks... :banghead:

Well the only one from him on the s3, is well just stock rooted basically.. Im already on that. Im looking for a stock looking (as in the theme of the app icons is normal and status bar and toggle bar etc all stock looking) but with optimizations
Try seeder app, it might help

Oh I misunderstood Lol. Well you could run an aokp/asop ROM with the gs3 launcher and touchwiz theme that has all of the icons if not very similar

Give The People's Rom a shot.. and can use Morphology with it if you choose to make some changes. Battery life is outstanding (most users will agree) plenty of performance options, 4 Kernel choices, (sure more to come) you'll enjoy it or your money back
Seriously tho.. Check them out.. :
Original The Peoples Rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013463 ---- This uses Aroma.. (pick and choose installer)
Xtra Crispy, The Peoples Rom Fat Ass Cartman Edition (everything included, all apps, and what not): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086302 ---- This is straight CWM Flash, all or nothing.
What about FreeGS3? Seems like that and People's ROM are the two big players in this forum???

I just got my S3 yesterday and immediately rooted when I got it home. Maybe I will try the people's ROM to compare.

Go for it.. You may find you like it.. Once you flash, head over to Morphology thread.. can make it purty that way
I think I will, at least to compare. Morphology works on both ROMs, so that's cool. I think so many of these threads get shut down, and it's a shame. For me, I'd like to see some comparisons of the different ROMs. Pros/Cons, maybe a poll on what ROM reigns supreme at this point in time, etc.
I realized FreeGS3 has, by far, the most activity in the thread. However, it's been open since July. People's doesn't have that many but it's only been opened since November. It makes it challenging when trying to actually compare and see which ROMs are actually the most popular overall.

People's thread is really active lol.. and changes flow constantly.
Best thing to do is test drive each and see how you personally like them. Opinions vary so everyone experience is different.
Thanks! Either way, I hope I will like it more than my Evo LTE. That's what I am coming from.

I also came from the evo lte about 2 months ago. So far this has been a better phone for me. After having a galaxy vibrant, I swore to never own another Samsung phone. I was definitely an HTC fan for over 2 years but was the evo lte was a disappointment to me. I think you're going to be happy with the s3.

Thanks. I hope so. Just trying to figure out the ROMs for the S3 and then will go from there. Just loaded people's. I don't like the stock theme, but I'm going to play with it for a few before going back to FreeGS3 or something else.
