DevNull by Oxygen Developer Adam G is the only thing that comes close.

Yep, oxygen is the rom i use with my Oxygen.
However, AdamG stated that he will not release any other Gingerbread release of oxygen.
Also, DevNull, is based on 2.3.5 and i don't think we will see new release anymore.
I wonder, how difficult is to build pure aosp for desire? Is there any guide around?

Yea, I can't see you finding anything closer than Oxygen. I've tried a bunch of roms, and oxygen is the most 'bare bones' that I've encountered. It's hard to find such roms because everyone generally wants to add features or tweak existing ones to better suit a specific device.

What's your problem with 2.3.5? Why should it need an update anyway?

There's nothing of any benefit after 2.3.5 imho. Not for the desire anyways.

Rom recommendations and rooting

Hey guys,
I'm using stock froyo 2.2 for my htc desire and that's why I'm facing low memory issue. I would like to know which rom will provide me with apps2sd feature so that I wont face any issue of low memory and also which rom is the closest to stock froyo as I know of roms that are featured pack till the simple application are not working.
Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

Read the ROM threads, best ROM is open to debate as what one person might love another may hate...it's completely subjective
Yeah I understand, but is there one that is close to the stock froyo 2.2? I do not need it to be fast, I only need it to be stable.
Search 'rooted 2.10.405.2' as there are some already on here...
You mean this rom is just rooted and Apps2sd for 2.2 stock desire?
I am using MoDaCo at the moment it's about as close to stock as you can get, but rooted and with an option for A2SD. They have a online kitchen as well so you can customize what you want installed in your ROM.
So how is it so far in terms of performance for you?

use LeeDroid and be happy. You'll get a lot of help in the LeeDroid thread at XDA, too. It's Sense with a lot of improvements.
LeeDroid? Saw from the thread there are quite a number of issues with the rom.

what issues? most of them are user related who don't know how to use a custom rom.
Like force closes of certain applications all these..

Assuming by lightest you mean least bloat? Then step forward cyanogenmod granted it doesn't include google apps (because of licensing issues) as standard but latest download of cm7 weighs in at 80mb
Yes, CyanogenMod 6 or 7 is the lightest ROM. I will recommend you to try CM7 its working smooth and fast.
If you want a light rom, go to the desire section and ask AdamG to make a DHD version of oxygen, that rom was so light it was like 40-50mb lol

The Cyanogen 7 of phunkycow includes the Google Apps and it is based on the newest Android 2.3.
I also think that the Cyanogen Roms are the lightest one because they have around 80-90mb and the sense Roms have around 250-280mb
thank you for the reply, will consult with the person that u mention for further more.. salute!!!

Some ROMS (leedroid, coredroid) are sense based, others such as cyanogen are striped down with all the bloat removed whilst others, miui for example are kinda left field. As for kernels some people want to overclock our undervolt their phone which is why you find the multitude of kernels.
tiny,as new in htc and sense, try first some sense roms like leedroid or revolution(these are the best for the moment) and then u can go in an aosp rom which are more fast and simples but not so beautifull for your eyes...
Thanks so much but which Rom is better leedroid or revolution?

At the moment, that's probably like asking what's better: PS3 or XBox360?
Why not try them both? Once you've done S-Off/root etc the first time, it's pretty quick to flash new ROM's.

Stable bug free sense 3.0/3.5 Rom?

My brother has just got a Desire Z and has asked me to install a custom Rom.
I'm after a sense 3.0/3.5 that is stable and bug free. I have so far seen AHRD and rcmix4.0 which look ok.
What Rom would you suggest?

Try NRGZ's energy roms, Heavily modified for stability

Any reason why a Cyanogenmod based ROM wouldn't be suitable? There are some very good ROMs available if those are an option to you.

Yes that is one of my options. It's looking like that or AHRD.
And yes, it needs to be sense.
Reading through the thread, even that Rom has a few issues.
Is there a sense 3.0 Rom thats completely bug free?
This Rom seems good, any reviews?

Hmmm, don't mind 2.1 as long its stable.
Another Rom which seems to fit the criteria is the insertcoin Rom. It's 2.1 but does have 3.0 features.
Any other opinions?

Use the energized one (RCMIX 4.0 energized blue) works great for me...just followed the instructions on the thread to fix the flash issue, and have no problems... been using it for almost a month now
Go with Virtuous Sense 2. Only 2.1 but it's the most stable sense ROM around. I've tried all the sense 3/3.5 and while they can be made to work ok with supercharge and other mods, they still aren't as stable as VS2.
If you want REAL speed and stability you should go for Cyanogen or MIUI, they worked perfect for me. I am trying to find a good Sense based ROM now, but it seems that Virtuous Sense is the most stable, still had some annoying issues with it.
I've been in the same position as yourself but I've recently found solace in Android Revolution HD, which is by far the smoothest, fastest and best Sense 3.5 ROM!
I agree

I agree (+1), the only time my Virtuous Sense 2.0 goes down is when I get bored and want to try something else. Uptimes of more that 15 days are common for me, where Sense 3.X roms rarley get a week without a reboot.
Trust me bliss sense hybrid v3.2 I've tried almost all roms and I find this the best !
+1 for bliss sense. Synergy also gets the job done. I have used both

Affinity 2.05, far the best and stable.

Looking for the best rom to install on my Desire

Nick
Try Bortak's guide, it's the first thread in Q&A section.

And which ROM is the best for you depends on what you like in a ROM.
There are differences in speed, customizability, features and of course the design.
So if you state what you like in a ROM it's easier for us to give an advise.
First of all you should decide if you want a stable rom or the newest but not so stable one.
For beginners I would recommend Cyanogen Mod, thats a nice stable Ginger Bread Rom and you get a good support there.
But if you want to try Ice Cream Sandwich, I suggest you try Sandvolds Rom. I am using that by myself and its great...
Regards
You could also try one of the MildWild-releases. They are both pretty good. I'm using the version based on Oxygen and it works great, very stable and very fast.
I've used MildWild but didnt like it.
Using Cyanogenmod now and i'm really happy with the performance of the rom.
+1 for Cyanogenmod... its flawless and very flexible! go for CM 7.2+INT2SD, it gives 1GB internal memory (find it here)
Below are other options:

If you want Sense ROM try any of the Runny ROMs
Try Ginger Villain rom

Miui xj!
If you havn't looked at this thread yet, now is the time.
Its a list of all the Roms for Desire, sorted by android version/ Sense version.
There is no "best rom" but like the others have said, you can't go wrong with CM.
Currently using Mokee OS, which is based on CM but with a whole new interface.
